Use Proper Power Cord
To avoid fire hazard, use only the power cord specified for this product.
Ground the Product
This product is grounded through the grounding conductor of the power
cord. To avoid electric shock, the grounding conductor must be connected
to earth ground. Before making connections to the input or output terminals
of the product, ensure that the product is properly grounded.

Electrostatic
Precautions
CAUTION: Some field kits contain components that must be protected
from static discharge and physical shock. To protect these components
from damage and to maintain product reliability, take the following
precautions when handling static sensitive components:
• Handle all circuit boards in a static-protected area capable of controlling
static charge on conductive materials, people, and nonconductive
materials. Static-protected areas include nonstatic table tops and nonstatic
floor mats.
• While out of the chassis, place boards in the ESD static-shielded bags
(provided with this kit) until you install them.
• Wear ESD grounding straps when handling boards outside of their ESD
static-shielded bags.
• Handle the circuit boards only by the edges and avoid touching the printed
wires on the back of the circuit board as much as possible.

Chapter 1
Installing the Codec Upgrade
The following codec upgrades are available for the M-Series iVDR.
Tools and materials needed:
•M-Series iVDR Codec Upgrade CD (provided with the kit)
To install the Codec upgrade:
1. Shut down AppCenter using the following steps.
a. In the AppCenter toolbar, select System | Shut Down.
b. Select Exit to Windows in the Shut Down dialog, then click Ok.
2. Insert the M-Series iVDR Codec Upgrade CD in the CD-ROM drive.
3. In the Windows taskbar, select Start | Windows Explorer.
4. In Windows Explorer, select the CD-ROM drive.
5. Double-click setup.exe.
The M-Series Option Wizard opens.
6. Click Next.
7. Click Install.
8. Click Finish.
9. Remove the CD-ROM from the drive.
10.Double-click the AppCenter shortcut on the Windows desktop.
AppCenter starts and initializes.
11.For information on selecting and configuring the new compression settings using
the Configuration tool, refer to the M-Series User Manual or online help.
NOTE: After installing the Codec upgrade and selecting the new compression type,
all existing media of a different compression type displayed in the Clips pane are
grayed. This indicates that the media cannot be loaded until you configure the
iVDR back to the original compression type.
Upgrade Nomenclature Descriptiona
a. An upgrade must be purchased for each M-Series iVDR upgraded.
M-122A Codec Upgrade Adds MPEG-2 compression (up to 25Mbs, 4:2:2, I Frame
only).
M-222D Codec Upgrade Adds DV50 compression and increases available MPEG-2
compression data rate up to 50Mbs, 4:2:2, I Frame only.

Installing the 1000BaseT
Network Adapter
Use this procedure to install the 1000BaseT network adapter upgrade to the M-Series
iVDR.
Procedure summary:
•“Power-off the iVDR and remove the power cord”

1. Perform one of the following steps to power-off the iVDR:
•IfAppCenterisrunning- In the AppCenter toolbar, select System | Shut Down,
and select Shut Down in the Shut Down dialog box, then click OK. Wait for the
iVDR to shut down and power-off.
•If AppCenter is not running - In the Windows taskbar, click Start| Shut Down,
and select Shut down, then click Ok. Wait for the iVDR to shut down and
power-off.

Power-on and test the hardware
Power-on and test the hardware
The software required for the 1000BaseT network adapter is pre installed on the
M-Series iVDR. This allows Windows torecognize and initialize the network adapter
board immediately at boot time.
NOTE: At Windows startup, the default IP address is set to 192.168.0.10 with a
subnet mask of 255.255.0.0.
1. Power-on the iVDR using the front standby switch.
Wait for Windows to initialize and AppCenter to automatically start. Windows
automatically recognizes the network adapter board.
2. Test the network adapter hardware as follows:
a. In the AppCenter toolbar, select System | Minimize.
b. In the Windows System Tray, double-click the Intel Wired Network Adapter
icon.
The Intel PROSet dialog opens.
c. Select the PRO/1000MT adapter in the network components tree.

d. Check the Link and Activity status indicators.
If the network cable is connected to the network, the Link status indicator is on
and the Activityindicator flashes intermittently. If not, verify your network cable
and connection.
NOTE: The General Tab in the Intel PROSet dialog box includes a Test Cable
button that can be used to test the cable.
e. (OPTIONAL) You can run Intel PROSet diagnostics to further test the hardware
by selecting the Diagnostics tab, then selecting the Run Tests button.
f. In the Intel PROSet dialog, select Ok to close.
Configure site specific network settings
Refer to the installation chapter of the M-Series User Manual for information on
configuring the network settings for various applications.
This concludes the 1000BaseT network adapter upgrade.

Installing the IEEE 1394 Adapter
Use this procedure to install the IEEE 1394 adapter upgrade to the M-Series iVDR.
Procedure summary:
•“Update iVDR software if needed”

•“Replace the top cover”

Update iVDR software if needed
The IEEE 1394 board requires iVDR system software version 2.0 or higher. Use the
following procedure to check software versions, then update iVDR software if
needed.
1. Power-on the iVDR, and wait for the iVDR to fully initialize.
2. In the AppCenter StatusBar, click the StatusPane button . The StatusPane
opens.
3. Select the StatusPane menu button , then choose Show Versions.
Software versions are displayed.
4. Check that system software is version 2.0 or higher.
5. If needed, update iVDR software.
Follow directions in the Release Notes and Installation Instructions that you
receive with the iVDR software.
Power-off the iVDR and remove the power cord
1. Perform one of the following:
• In the AppCenter toolbar, select System | Shut Down, and select Shut Down in
the Shut Down dialog box, then click OK. Wait for the iVDR to shut down and
power-off.
• In the Windows taskbar, click Start | Shut Down, and select Shut down, then click
Ok. Wait for the iVDR to shut down and power-off.
2. Remove the iVDR power cord.
