Engine exhaust fumes can cause sickness or death. If it is necessary
to run an engine in an enclosed area, use an exhaust pipe extension
to remove the fumes. Always try to work in a well ventilated area.

Handle fuel with care, it is highly flamma le: Do not refuel machine
while smoking, when machine is near an open flame or sparks, or
when the engine is running. Stop the engine.

Before using the machine, it is mandatory to put on the appropriate
individual safety devices: ody protection, protection gloves, security
shoes, ear protection.

Dear customer,
thank you for choosing our wheeled trimmer. We are sure that your new machine's performance will
fully meet your requirements. To ensure optimum service and maintenance over time, read this
manual carefully and follow the instructions. This will give you the best result and will protect your
investment. lease keep this manual, which must always accompany the machine.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND INTENDED USE
The wheeled trimmer has been designed to cut grass, small bushes, to carry out finishing works and
to maintain fallow land.
CAUTION! Read this ma ual carefully before starti g the e gi e.
The followi g war i gs are very importa t for the operator's safety.
WARNINGS
Caution is the main safeguard in preventing accidents!
We urge you to read the warnings that follow when using the Rotavator, before starting any work at
all. Improper use of the Rotavator and its equipment can be dangerous; to reduce the risks to the
minimum, observe the necessary precautions set out below:
1) Read the whole of this manual before starting the machine or putting it in motion.
2) ay special attention to the safety warnings and labels.
3) Rotation of the trimmer strings is extremely dangerous; ever put ha ds or feet u der the
trimmer!
4) Before other people are allowed to use the machine, make sure they are informed about the safety
regulations and how to properly use this equipment.
5) Ensure children and animals are kept at a safe distance of about 15 metres. Do not allow people to
come closer to the wheeled trimmer when it is being used.
6) Do not use the machine when physically fatigues or under the influence of alcohol or drugs that
could impair the operator's physical and mental capacities.
7) Thoroughly check the ground before using the wheeled trimmer and remove any object that could
damage the tines (e.g. stones) or that could be caught up and flung down, therefore becoming highly
dangerous. (e.g. branches, stones).
8) Always wear suitable clothing and footwear. It is recommended to wear safety footwear,
safety goggles, ear plugs and gloves, long trousers. Do not wear clothing or accessories that
could get trapped in the controls or in the tiller (e.g. loose trousers, scarves…).
9) ay close attention when working on slopes. Always work across the slope and never
upwards/downwards. ay greater attention when changing direction on slopes and never work on
excessively steep ground (max. 30°).
10) Never allow the machine to be used by anyone under 16 years of age.
11) ay close attention when operating the machine in reverse, make sure that there are no obstacles
behind you.

12) It is dangerous to sharply activate the levers with the engine at maximum r.p.m.
13) Do not operate the engine in a confined space where dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can

collect.
4) CAUTION: Petrol is highly inflammable. Store fuel in containers especially designed for this
purpose. Refuel outdoors and away from any open flames or sparks. Never smoke when refuelling.
Stop the engine before refuelling and never refuel with the engine running. Never remove the tap of
the fuel tank or add fuel when the engine is hot. If fuel is spilled, do not attempt to start the engine but
move the machine away from the area of spillage and avoid creating any source of ignition until fuel
vapours have dissipated. After refuelling all fuel caps should be closed securely.
15) Avoid spillages and clean up all spills straight away.
16) Store fuel in containers especially designed for this purpose.
17) Make sure you work preferably in natural light or good artificial light.
18) Never use the wheeled trimmer to crush building, metallic and plastic material nor roots and trunks
or any sort of garbage.
19) Do not use the machine to transport people, animals or objects.
20) Never disable safety devices.
21) Always stop the engine before making any adjustment or cleaning.
22) Never allow anyone to check the machine with engine running.
23) The user is always responsible for injuries or damages caused to third parties and for any risk they
could run.
24) Damaged tines must always be replaced and never repaired.
25) Always use genuine Grillo spare parts.
26) Before starting any work with the machine, check that all the accident prevention systems the
wheeled trimmer is equipped with, are in perfect working order. They must never be disabled or
tampered with.
27) Before starting work, check the brake system efficiency and adjust it if necessary.
28) Never operate the machine without safety protective devices in place (such as mudguards and
engine bonnets).
29) Never clean the wheeled trimmer with the engine running.
30) Never use the machine barefoot.
31) Never change the max R M engine settings nor any other engine settings.
32) Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure.
33) CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire, keep the engine, the exhaust pipe and the exhaust manifolds
free from grass, leaves, dust, etc..
34) Drain the fuel only outdoors.
35) Do not run with the wheeled trimmer.
36) Hold your feet away when starting the machine.
37) Do not lift or transport the machine with the engine running.
38) Do not store the machine with fuel in the tank where petrol vapours could reach an open
flame or source of ignition.
39) Grillo wheeled trimmers has been designed with the sole purpose of being used with original Grillo
attachments of with attachments designed by other manufacturers expressively authorized by Grillo.
Non original attachments as well as attachments produced and/or modified by non-authorized
manufacturers must never been connected to the wheeled trimmer. If you have any question or doubt
please contact the nearest Grillo authorized dealer.
Any improper use will void the warranty and the manufacturer will not be held responsible for
any damage that occurs thereafter.

We recommend the use of ear plugs/protection should the wheeled trimmer be used for a prolonged
time. Use acoustic protections compliant with the current law (see picture below – Fig. A).

The vehicle’s serial number is to be found on the
machine's frame.
Always state the serial number when ordering
spare parts.
AFTER-SALES SERVICE
This handbook provides instructions for use of the wheeled-trimmer and for correct basic servicing
which the user can carry out himself.
For all procedures not described in this handbook, contact your local dealer.
SPARE PARTS
Always use original spare parts, as they are the only ones to offer complete safety and
interchangeability.
Always state the serial number when ordering.
For engine parts, refer to the specific handbook.
WA ANTY
The guarantee is given in compliance with the current law. The dealer will have to give the client a
copy of the registration card of the machine, which they will print up from the Grillo website. For the
engine the guarantee of the relative manufacturers apply.

PUTTING THE MACHINE INTO SERVICE
1) Check that the machine has not been damaged in transit.
2) Mount both the wheels (fig. 6)

3) Fit the front grass protection (fig.1 for HWT600, fig. 7 for HWT550 TILT, n°12)
4) Fit the handlebars.
5) In the model HWT550 TILT fit the inclination control rod of the cutting head (fig.1A n°11).
6) Fill in the engine oil (see engine manual)
7) Fill up the petrol tank
Before starting the engine always check:
- the oil level inside the engine. The level cap is on the top casing (fig. 4) and the oil level must be
between the two rims.
- that all nuts and bolts are firmly tightened.
- that all levers are in neutral position.
- that the air filter is clean.
- fill the tank with fuel using a funnel with a very fine filter. Once the engine has started, release the
choke and accelerate gradually. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before starting
work.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
STARTING THE ENGINE
Open the fuel tap and set the throttle lever in the mid position. If the engine is cold set the lever to the
starter position (follow the instructions in the engine manual). ull the pull-start handle slowly until
resistance is felt, then give a sharp pull (always follow the instructions in the engine manual (fig. 1, no.
3).
STARTING WORK
ut the engine to the maximum speed. Make sure there are no people around the cutting area. Set
the wire rotation lever and start working. (fig.1 no. 2)
CAUTION: When the lever (fig.1 o. 2) is set the tool starts rotati g. IN CASE OF DANGER
IMMEDIATELY RELEASE THE LEVER. (fig.1 o. 2) THE TOOL WILL STOP IMMEDIATELY.
The HWT600 model is self-propelled. To engage the wheel traction use the lever (fig. 2 no. 9).
Releasing the lever, the machine stops.
In the HWT550 TILT model is possible to fit the inclination of the cutting head to the right or to the left
to perform a ground cutting (fig. 1A, n. 11 e fig. 7)
WARNING: never leave the machine unattended and/or near children or people who haven’t read the
manual or who haven’t received instructions for a safe and appropriate use of the machine.
FINISHING WORK
To stop the engine move the throttle lever (fig. 1, n. 1) to the stop limit position (fig. 1B) and turn the
fuel tap off.
REPLACING THE STRINGS
Replace the strings when worn out.
CAUTION: Never replace the strings with the engine running.
The cutting diameter is of 60 cm. Check the length of the strings before replacing them and make sure
they do not come in touch with the machine while rotating.

ADJUSTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT
To adjust the cutting height, insert the strings in the holes at various heights (fig. 8, pos. A-B-C-D). In
position D the string is flush with the ground. This is the ideal position in order to remove weeds from
paving stones. If the ground is very uneven, set the strings in the highest position. To set the string
plate in position C and D adjust the screw under the cup.
WHEEL AXLE ROTATION (HWT550 TILT model)
Model HWT550 TILT is provided with three working positions: central, right or left. The lateral
movement is very useful when working close to walls and pavements. To tilt the wheel axle proceed
as follows:
- slightly raise the wheel above the ground, press the position pedal down and move the wheels (fig.
3).
TROUBLESHOOTING
The following is a list of small problems which may occur during the use of the TRIMMER brush-
cutter, which the operator himself can remedy.
1) If the e gi e does ot start (petrol e gi e) carry out the followi g checks
- the fuel tank must be at least half full.
- the fuel tap must be turned on.
- if the engine is cold the choke must be engaged.
- the fuel must reach the carburettor
- the vent hole on the tank cap must not be blocked.
- the carburettor nozzles must be clean. To check them, unscrew and clean them with an air jet if
dirty.
- the plug must provide a spark. To check if it works, remove the plug reconnect it to the power
supply cable, rest the metal part on an electrical ground and turn the engine pulley as if to start it. If
no spark is seen between the two electrodes, try checking the plug cable connections and if power
is still not received, replace the plug. If the new plug still fails to work, the problem is in the
electrical system and you should contact your nearest service centre or authorized dealer.

2) For HWT600: If the engine is running but the wheeled trimmer does not move forward
correctly, perform the following checks:
- check that the lever if fully pressed (fig. 2, no. 9). If necessary adjust the wire (fig. 2, no. 10).
- make sure that the belt has not come out of its position on the pulleys. To check it remove the
cover below the machine.
- Should the problem not be solved, increase the belt tensioning by shifting the engine of a couple
of mm towards the handlebar, loosening the three screws on the engine flange.
3) The strings do not rotate properly:
- check that the lever if fully pressed (fig. 1, no. 2). If the strings do not turn, use the wire
adjusting screw (fig. 3, no. 4).
- make sure that the belt has not come out of its position on the pulleys. To check it remove the
front green cover of the machine and the cover below the machine.
- Should the problem not be solved, increase the belt tensioning by shifting the engine of a couple
of mm towards the handlebar, loosening the three screws on the engine flange.

4) Poor cut quality:
- make sure that the cutting diameter has not reduced too much and that that the strings are not worn
out. Replace them if necessary.
5) The engine does not switch off:
- check that the throttle lever (fig. 1B, no. 1) is fully closed – STO position.
PE IOD OF LONG-TE M STO AGE
If the wheeled trimmer is to be out of use for a long period:
- fully drain the fuel from the tank.
- thoroughly clean both the machine and the engine.
MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
CAUTION!
- Disconnect the plug before performing any cleaning, maintenance or repair operation. Always
wear suitable clothing and working gloves.
- When the wheeled trimmer or part of it is lifted to carry out maintenance operations, always
remember to use suitable fixing tools such as holders and safety locks.
- When carrying out maintenance operations and/or when the wheeled trimmer is tilted without
safety locks or supports, never leave it unguarded in places where inexperienced people and
children could have easy access to it.
- Protect the environment: carefully dispose of used oils, petrol and any other pollutant
product!
- Effective maintenance and correct lubrication help to keep the wheeled trimmer fully efficient.
UNNING-IN – Replace the engine oil after the first 20 working hours (fig. 4).
Check that there are neither oil leakages nor loosen screws.
ENGINE OIL
Always follow the instructions provided in the engine manual. Replace the engine oil after the first 20
working hours, then replace the oil every 50 working hours. Always use oil SAE30.
Air filter: check the cartridge every 8 hours or more frequently if the environment is dusty. Do not clean
the cartridge with air jets, if it is clogged it must be replaced (fig. 5).
TIPS FO P OPE USE
1) Never leave the machine exposed to bad weather conditions.
2) Always clean levers and wires from dust.
3) Never strain the engine. If smoke comes out of the exhaust, slow down.
4) Remove any grass deposits form the engine cooling grid and often clean the air filter.
5) It is highly recommended to use square-section strings or strings with sharp edges
END OF SEASON MAINTENANCE
Thoroughly clean the machine, replace the engine oil and clean the air filter.

WA NINGS FO T ANSPO T
Wheeled trimmers cannot be used on public roads. If the machine is to be transported on a lorry or a
trailer fasten the machine to the lorry/trailer using ropes or belts. If a lifting machine is used to lift the
wheels trimmers from the ground into the lorry/trailer make sure its lifting capacity its suitable for the
machine.

nel ringraziarla per la fiducia e la preferenza accordata al nostro trimmer, confidiamo che l'uso di
questa sua nuova macchina risponda pienamente alle sue esigenze. Per l'impiego ottimale e per la
sua manutenzione nel tempo, la preghiamo di leggere attentamente e seguire scrupolosamente le
indicazioni di questo li retto; ciò le consentirà di ottenere i massimi risultati e salvaguardare la sua

DESCRIZIONE GENERALE E USO PREVISTO
Il decespugliatore a filo TRIMMER è indicato per il taglio dell'er a e di piccoli ar usti, per lavori di
rifinitura e per decespugliatore zone incolte in ogni condizione di terreno.
ATTENZIONE! Leggere attentamente prima di avviare il motore.

AVVERTENZE
La prudenza è l'arma principale nella prevenzione degli incidenti!
La preghiamo vivamente di leggere con attenzione le seguenti avvertenze, prima ancora di iniziare il
lavoro.
L'uso improprio della macchina e il suo equipaggiamento può risultare dannoso; per ridurre queste
possi ilità osservare le precauzioni necessarie di seguito riportate:
1) Prima di utilizzare il decespugliatore, leggere attentamente tutte le istruzioni riportate su questo
manuale. Prendere familiarità con i comandi ed il corretto uso della macchina.
2) Porre particolare attenzione alle etichette di sicurezza poste sulla macchina.
3) La rotazione dei fili del decespugliatore è altamente pericolosa, non me ere mai le mani o i piedi
so o al decespuglia ore.
4) Consentire l'uso del decespugliatore soltanto a persone che hanno letto il presente manuale o che
hanno ricevuto adeguate istruzioni per un uso sicuro e appropriato.
5) Tenere am ini e animali ad una distanza di almeno 15 metri dall'area di lavoro. Non consentire ad
altre persone o animali di avvicinarsi al decespugliatore quando questo viene acceso o utilizzato.
6) Non utilizzare il decespugliatore in condizioni di affaticamento fisico, o sotto l'effetto di alcool,
droghe o farmaci che riducano le capacità fisiche e cognitive dell'operatore.
7) Controllare l'area nella quale deve essere utilizzata la macchina: prima di procedere con il taglio
dell'er a, rimuovere tutti gli oggetti che potre ero danneggiare la macchina (es. pietre) o che
potre ero essere lanciati dall'attrezzo azionato (es. sassi, rami ecc.).
8) Quando si lavora con il decespuglia ore u ilizzare sempre un abbigliamen o adegua o. Si
consiglia d'indossare calza ure di sicurezza, occhiali o visiera pro e iva, cuffie o appi
an irumore, guan i da lavoro, pan aloni lunghi. Evi are di indossare indumen i o accessori che
possano impigliarsi nei comandi o nelle frus e (es. non indossare pan aloni larghi, sciarpe…).
9) Sui pendii agire sempre con cautela, lavorare ad una pendenza massima pari a 30°.
10) E' vietato l'uso del decespugliatore ai minori di 16 anni.
11) Li erare da ostacoli le zone di manovra.
12) È pericoloso azionare le leve ruscamente, in particolare col motore a massimo regime.
13) Per evitare il pericolo di esalazioni tossiche, non adoperare il motore acceso in un locale chiuso.

14) ATTENZIONE! La benzina è al amen e infiammabile. Conservare il car urante in appositi
recipienti. Fare rifornimento di car urante solamente all'aperto lontano da fiamme li ere e scintille.
Non fumare durante questa operazione. Aggiungere il car urante sempre prima di avviare il motore,
mai a motore acceso. Non togliere mai il tappo del ser atoio né aggiungere enzina quando il motore
è in funzione o quando è caldo. In caso di fuoriuscita di enzina, non tentare di avviare il motore, ma
allontanare la macchina dall'area dove è avvenuta la fuoriuscita, evitando di creare fonti di accensione
finché non si sono dissipati i vapori della enzina.
15) Evitare fuoriuscite di com usti ile e, dopo aver riempito il ser atoio, pulire ogni eventuale
fuoriuscita prima di avviare il motore.
16) Immagazzinare il car urante in contenitori specificatamente costruiti con questo o iettivo.
17) Lavorare solo con la luce del sole o con uona illuminazione artificiale.
18) In nessun caso utilizzare il decespugliatore Grillo per frantumare materiali edilizi, plastici, metallici,
radici, tronchi e rifiuti in genere.
19) Non utilizzare mai la macchina per trasportare persone o animali.
20) Non manome ere o disa ivare i disposi ivi di sicurezza.
21) Non fare nessun ipo di regolazione o pulizia col mo ore in mo o.
22) Non fare con rollare la macchina da nessuno men re sie e alla guida col mo ore in mo o.
23) L'utilizzatore è sempre responsa ile dei danni arrecati a terzi, degli incidenti o dei pericoli nei quali
possono incorrere.
24) In caso di componenti rotanti deformati o danneggiati procedere sempre con la sostituzione, mai
tentare riparazioni o saldature.
25) Usare sempre ricam i originali Grillo.
26) Prima di cominciare qualsiasi lavoro con la macchina, verificare che tutti i sistemi antinfortunistici
di cui essa è dotata siano perfettamente funzionanti. È severamente vietato escluderli o manometterli.
27) L'attrezzatura protettiva (coperchi), va assolutamente mantenuta durante i lavori di taglio.
28) Non pulire la macchina con il motore acceso.
29) Durante il lavoro devono essere utilizzate scarpe di sicurezza.
30) Non cam iare le regolazioni del motore, in modo particolare il numero massimo di giri.
31) Far raffreddare il motore prima di mettere la macchina in locali chiusi.
32) ATTENZIONE: per ridurre il pericolo di incendio man enere il mo ore, la marmi a e i
colle ori di scarico liberi da erba, foglie, polvere ecc..
33) Se dovete svuotare il ser atoio del car urante eseguite l’operazione all’aperto.
34) Non correre, ma accompagnare la macchina sempre e solo camminando.
35) Avviare la macchina enendo i piedi ben dis an i dalle frus e.
36) Non sollevare o trasportare la macchina quando il motore è acceso.
37) Non immagazzinare mai la macchina con benzina nel serba oio all'in erno di un edificio
dove i vapori possono raggiungere una fiamma libera o una scin illa.
38) I decespugliatori Grillo sono stati progettati unicamente per essere utilizzati con accessori originali
Grillo o con accessori di produttori autorizzati dalla stessa ditta Grillo. Non installare sulla macchina
accessori non originali, o prodotti da aziende non autorizzate Grillo o comunque modificati da
personale non autorizzato Grillo. Per qualsiasi du io contattare sempre un rivenditore autorizzato o
direttamente il nostro centro assistenza Grillo.

MESSA IN OPERA DELLA MACCHINA
- Controllare l'integrità della macchina e che non a ia su ito danni durante il trasporto.
- Montare le due ruote come mostrato nella fig.6
- Montare il paraer a (fig.1 er HWT600 e fig.2 per HWT550 TILT, n°12).
- Montare il manu rio di guida.
- Nella versione HWT550 TILT montare l'asta di comando inclinazione della frusta (fig.1A n°11).

- Inserire l'olio motore (si veda il li retto motore).
- Riempire il ser atoio di car urante.
Prima di avviare il motore controllare sempre:
- il livello dell'olio nel motore (fig. 4): l'olio deve arrivare tra i due ordini.
- che tutte le viti e i dadi siano en serrati.
- che tutte le leve siano in posizione di folle
- che il filtro dell'aria sia en pulito.
- riempire il ser atoio di car urante servendosi di un im uto munito di filtro molto fine. Una volta
avviato il motore disinserire lo starter e accelerare progressivamente. Lasciare scaldare il motore
per qualche minuto prima di iniziare il lavoro.
ISTRUZIONI D'USO
AVVIAMENTO DEL MOTORE
Aprire il ru inetto del car urante, spingere fino a metà la levetta comando gas e, se il motore è freddo,
portare la levetta nella posizione di starter (fig.1B) (attenersi al li retto motore). Tirare la manopola
dell'avviamento auto-avvolgente lentamente fino a che si avverte la resistenza (fig.1,n°3) quindi dare
uno strappo energico (attenersi sempre alle norme contenute nel li retto motore).
INIZIO DEL LAVORO
Portare il motore a regime massimo. Assicurarsi che non vi siano persone nei pressi della zona di
taglio, innestare la leva di rotazione dei fili e iniziare il lavoro (fig. 1 e 2, n. 2). ATTENZIONE: quando
la leva (fig.1 e 2, n°2) è premu a le frus e sono aziona e e l'a rezzo si me e in ro azione.
IN CASO DI PERICOLO RILASCIARE IMMEDIATAMENTE LA LEVA (fig. 1 e 2, n°2), LE FRUSTE
SI ARRESTERANNO IMMEDIATAMENTE. Il modello HWT600 è semovente. Per inserire la trazione
alle ruote agire sulla leva (fig. 1, n. 9). A andonando la leva la macchina si arresta.
Nella versione HWT550 TILT è possi ile inclinare la testina di taglio a destra o a sinistra per eseguire
un taglio radente al terreno (fig. 1A, n. 11 e fig. 7).
ATTENZIONE: non lasciare mai la macchina incustodita e/o alla portata di am ini o di persone che
non hanno letto il presente manuale o che non hanno ricevuto adeguate istruzioni per un uso sicuro e
appropriato della macchina.
FINE LAVORO
Terminato il lavoro, per arrestare il motore, portare il manettino acceleratore (fig.1 e 2, n.1) a fine
corsa nella posizione stop (fig. 1B). Chiudere il ru inetto della enzina.
SOSTITUZIONE FILO
Se il filo risulta usurato occorre sostituirlo. ATTENZIONE: non sostituire il filo con il motore in moto. Il
diametro di taglio è pari a 60 cm, controllare che la lunghezza dei fili sia corretta e che, durante la
rotazione delle fruste, i fili non urtino parti della macchina, danneggiandola.
REGOLAZIONE ALTEZZA DI TAGLIO
Per regolare l'altezza di taglio inserire i fili nei fori alle varie altezze (fig. 8, pos. A-B-C-D). Nella
posizione D il filo lavora radente al terreno. E' la posizione ideale per pulire i selciati da er e
