I. INTRODUCTION
We are proud to bring you the Model G1690 Miter Trimmer. The Model G1690 is part of
Grizzly's large family of fine woodworking tools and machinery. When used according to the
guidelines set forth in this manual, you can expect years of trouble-free, enjoyable operation
and proof of Grizzly's commitment to customer satisfaction.
The Model G1690 Miter Trimmer is an excellent choice for producing sharp, clean, accurate
miters on picture frames, molding, trim, and casement work. The Model G1690 can be mounted
to abench, or be moved from worksite to worksite.
We are also pleased to provide this instruction manual with the Model G1690 Miter Trimmer.
This instruction manual was written to guide you. through assembly, review safety consid-
erations and cover general operating procedures. It represents our latest effort to produce
the best documentation possible. If you have any constructive criticisms or comments that

II. COMMENTARY
We would also like to state that the specifications and drawings in this manual represent
the Model G1690 as supplied when this manual was prepared. We are meticulous with our
manuals; however, product changes or discrepancies can occur. Whenever possible, we send
manual updates to all owners of aparticular tool or machine. Should you receive one, please
insert the new information with the old and keep it for reference.

III. SAFETY RULES
There is acertain amount of danger associated with the use of this tool. Operating it with
respect and caution will considerably lessen the possibility of personal injury. If these safety
precautions are ignored, injury to the operator or others in the area could occur.
The Model G1690 was designed specifically as atrimming tool, not for general cutoff work.
Further, the trimmer should only be used on natural wood fibers, not on composites such
as plastics, particleboards, or MDF. This tool should never be modified or used for any other
purpose than that for which it was intended. As well as being dangerous, modifications or
improper use of the Model G1690 will void all warranties.
1.Never put your hands or fingers in the path of the blade. Keep fingers clear of the
cutting edge at all times.
2. Do not use your trimmer on wood of poor quality, or wood with nails.
3. Do not take too heavy aslice in one pass. Take several thin slices instead.
4. Contain long hair before using the trimmer.
5. Do not wear loose clothing, neckties, or jewelry during operation.
6. Make sure trimmer is secured to benchtop before use.
7. Lock fences and stops in position before use.
8. Keep blades sharp.
9. Use trimmer to cut wood fibers only. Composites, plastics, etc. will damage the knives.
10. Keep trimmer out of the reach of children.
IV. UNPACKING
Your trimmer arrived packaged in astiff cardboard box. If you find damage to the components
after you've signed the delivery receipt and the truck and driver have gone, you will need
to file afreight claim with the carrier. Save the container and all packing material for inspection
by the carrier or their agent. Without the packing material, filing afreight claim could be difficult.
Of course, if you ever need advice in this matter, please call us.
V. INVENTORY
The only loose part in the carton is the cast iron operating lever, which fits in the appropriate
slot on the geared wheel on the back of the trimmer. If anything is missing, call or write
to the appropriate regional service department listed in the Introduction. If anything is damaged,
please follow the procedures described in the "Unpacking" section.
Note: Be extremely careful when unpacking the trimmer. Keep fingers and hands clear of
the blade areas, should the blade slide freely during movement.

VI. CLEANUP
All of the unpainted surfaces of your machine have been treated with athick, brown rust
preventative to protect them from corrosion during shipment. The best way to remove this
substance is with common paint thinner (mineral spirits) and plenty of clean rags. Do not
use gasoline or other petroleum-based solvents because of their extremely low flash points.
Nor should you use chlorine-based solvents—if you happen to splash some onto apainted
surface, you'll ruin the finish. Before cleaning, please acknowledge the following safety rules
when working with solvents:
•Read and follow all directions and warnings on the solvent label.
•Work only in awell ventilated area.
•Do not work near any type of open flame (e.g., pilot lights, kerosene heaters, and
so on).
•DO NOT smoke while working with flammable material.
•Rags from the cleaning process are quite combustible. Dispose of waste towels so
they do not create afire hazard.

VII. OPERATION
If you have not already done so, secure the miter trimmer to atable or bench top. If you
need the trimmer to be portable, mount it to aplywood base, then clamp the base to astable
flat surface before use. If the trimmer is not secured, performace and safety could be
compromised.
The Model G1690 Miter Trimmer has two positive stops—one at 90° and another at 45°.
These stops are preset at the factory and are probably accurate. However, before you trim
an actual workpiece, test the angles on scraps first.
1. Crosscut apiece of scrapwood at 45° on atable saw or bandsaw. Then place the
workpiece in the trimmer and slice off about 1/32wof the end.
2. Using acombination square, measure the accuracy of the angle you have just cut.
In most cases, you shouldn't need to make an adjustment. But in case you do, minute
adjustments can be made by loosening the screw that holds the brass cam in place
on the trimmer's table.
3. Move the fence into the desired position by loosening the wing bolt and sliding the
fence left or right. Next, rotate the cam until it is snug against the fence.
4. Then tighten the cam's screw. Tighten the wing bolt.
5. Similarly, the spring pin at the 45° position can be adjusted to compensate for minor
inaccuracies. Simply rotate the cam to the desired position and tighten the stop in
place. Slide the fence over the pin (you might need to use asmall, flat-tipped
screwdriver to push the pin down while the fence clears it), and the spring will pull
the fence back against the pin to lock it in place at 45°. See Figure 1.
6. To set the fence to angles other than 45° or 90°, use abevel gauge to determine
the desired angle, then lock the fence in place against the bevel gauge.

7. Prepare the workpiece by accurately measuring the desired length needed. Add
approximately 7»" to either end and cut off, using atable saw, band saw, or machine
of your choice. Select the appropriate angle by moving the fence into place and
tightening the wing bolt on the end of the arm. Move the piece ahead so it hangs
over the edge of the bed by approximately Vaa".
8. Now, while keeping pressure on the workpiece simultaneously downward and against
the fence, draw the lever toward the workpiece with an even, steady force. You will
get better results by making several thin slices rather than one thick slice.
9. You can achieve compound miters by placing a45° block against the fence and resting
the workpiece against the block as shown in Figure 2.

X. WARRANTY &RETURNS
Limited Warranty
Grizzly Imports, Inc. (Grizzly) warrants every product it sells for aperiod of 90 days on all
parts and one year on all electric motors to the original purchaser from the date of purchase.
This warranty does not apply to defects due directly or indirectly to misuse, abuse, negligence,
accidents, repairs, alterations or lack of maintenance. This is Grizzly's sole written warranty
and any and all warranties that may be implied by law, including any merchantability or fitness,
for any particular purpose, are hereby limited to the duration of this written warranty. We
do not warrant or represent that the merchandise complies with the provisions of any law
or acts unless the manufacturer so warrants. In no event shall Grizzly's liability under this
warranty exceed the purchase price paid for the product and any legal actions brought against
Grizzly shall be tried in the State of Washington, County of Whatcom.
We shall in no event be liable for death, injuries to persons or property or for incidental,
contingent, special or consequential damages arising from the use of our products.
To take advantage of this warranty, the product or part must be returned to either our
Bellingham or Williamsport warehouse, freight prepaid. Proof of purchase must accompany
the merchandise. The manufacturers reserve the right to change specifications at any time
as they constantly strive for better quality equipment.
