WARNING: Contamination of drinking water due to improper handling.
● Risk of infectious diseases.
► Have installation, start-up and maintenance carried out by specialist installers
only.
2.1 Safety measures
● Read the instructions carefully before you operate your product.
● Install the product in a frost-free room. Otherwise, the system may suffer
irreparable damage. The consequence can be a water damage.
● Only use genuine spare parts for maintenance or repair. If unsuitable spare parts
are used, the warranty for your product will be void.
● Do not use products which have a damaged power supply cable. This can lead to
injuries due to electric shock. Have damaged power supply cables replaced without
delay.
● Comply with the hygiene instructions in chapter 8. Failure to comply can result in
microbiological contamination of your drinking water installation.
● Only have persons working on your system that have read and understood the
present manual and that are qualified to do such work due to their vocational
training.
● Only operate the product if all components are installed properly.
● Safety equipment must never be removed, bridged or otherwise tampered with.
2.2 Safety information
This manual contains instructions that you must comply with for your personal safety as well
as to avoid damage to property. The instructions are highlighted by a warning triangle and

● Instruct the owner-user in the function and operation of the product.
● Advise the owner/user of the maintenance of the product.
● Instruct the owner-user about possible dangers that can arise during operation of
the product.

2.5 Responsibilities of the owner-user
Comply with the following specifications to ensure correct and safe function of the product:
● Only entrust qualified experts such as specialist installers or specialist companies
with installation, start-up and maintenance.
● Have the product explained to you by the specialist installer.
● Only carry out activities described in this manual.
● Do not carry out any activities that are explicitly indicated for a specialist installer.
● Only use this product in accordance with its designated application.
● Make sure that the required inspection and maintenance work is carried out.
● Keep this manual.
2.6 Safety information for the specific system
WARNING: Risk of contamination of the drinking water in case of incorrect discharge of the
rinsing water.
● Heath risk due to contamination of the drinking water.
► When installing a discharge line for the rinsing water, do not connect any
contraptions directly to the drain outlet of the backwash filter. To install a
discharge line, only use the backwash water connection supplied with the system.
2.7 Packaging, shipping and storage
Only transport and store the product:
● In its genuine packaging
● right side up
Only transport and store the product free from:
● Strong heat
● Frost
● Direct sunlight
● Chemicals, dyes, solvents and their vapours

3 Product description
3.1 Intended use
The GENO-backwash filters MXA are suitable for the following sectors:
● Filtration of drinking water
● Filtration of industrial water
● Overpressure
3.2 Foreseeable misuse
The filters are not suitable for the following sectors:
● Filtration of circulation water treated with chemicals
● Filtration of oils, greases, solvents, soaps and other lubricating media
● Separation of water-soluble substances
● Negative pressure

3.4 Accessories
Safety valve for MXA
● Solenoid valve closed when deenergised
● Controlled by the GENO RS tronic
Pre-assembled on the backwash water outlet, it prevents unacceptable water leaks during
backwash in the event of a power failure.
Please inquire.
3.5 Functional description
3.5.1 Filtration
The unfiltered raw water flows into the filter from the inlet side and then passes through the
filter element to the pure water outlet.
Foreign particles the size of > 50 µm, 100 µm, 200 µm, 500 µm - depending on the filter
element - are thus retained in the filtration process.
Depending on size and weight, the foreign particles either stick to the filter element or fall
straight down where they accumulate at the lowest point of the filter.
3.5.2 Backwash
During the backwash process, pure water is still available.
The pressure of the filtered pure water is used for the backwash process. The backwash
causes several things to happen:
● Brushes on the raw water side remove foreign particles from the filter element.
● A suction nozzle opens the drain outlet at the bottom of the filter towards the
backwash water connection.
● The pressure of the pure water is higher than the atmospheric pressure.
● Due to this differential pressure, a part of the pure water flows through the filter
elements within the area of the hollow brushes into the suction nozzle.
● This part of the pure water is used as rinsing water.
● The rinsing water flushes the dissolved foreign particles through the suction nozzle.
● Via the suction nozzle, the backwash water - together with the foreign particles -
leaves the filter through the drain outlet towards the rinsing water connection.

● At the end of the backwash, the drain outlet will be closed.
● The backwash process is completed.
3.5.3 Triggering the backwash with the control unit GENO-RS-tronic
A backwash with the GENO-RS-tronic can be triggered in four ways:
1. Automatically after a time interval, adjustable
2. Automatically after a differential pressure is reached, can be switched off and on
3. by an external signal at the external input of the control unit
4. Manual triggering on the control unit
1. Automatic triggering by time interval
● The time interval is adjustable from 1 hour - 99 days.
● The time interval is generally active.
● From an interval duration >= 1 day, the start time can also be programmed.
● A shut-off time during which a backwash will not be triggered can be activated.
● Automatic backwash before and after the shut-off time.
2. Automatic triggering after a differential pressure is reached
● The differential pressure sensor detects the differential pressure between the raw
water side and the pure water side.
● The differential pressure sensor triggers a backwash when approximately 0.4 bar
is exceeded. Default setting = 0.4 bar; adjustable from 0.16 – 1.6 bar.
● The differential pressure evaluation can be deactivated.
3. Triggering by external signal
The backwash can be triggered by means of an external voltage-free contact.
If the contact is closed for more than 1 s, a backwash will occur Preconditions for the
triggering by the external contact are as follows:
• No backwash lock is active
• No backwash is active
• No errors Er 3 or Er 5 present
The input cannot be programmed for an external backwash lock.
4. Manual triggering
The backwash can be triggered manually on the control unit with the R button (refer to
chapter 7).

Behaviour of the backwash filter if there is a power failure
Since software-version V3.2, the time is remains for a maximum of 180 min if there is a
power failure. The number of the software version can be retrieved via Code-Level “999”
(refer to chapter 4.5.2)
If a power failure interrupts the backwash for a maximum of°180°min, it will be terminated
correctly afterward.
3.5.4 Backwash with the control unit GENO-RS-tronic
An actuator opens the channel bore. Initially cycled, then with continuous rotation.
The rotation triggers the contact of a microswitch via a cam disk. The microswitch sends
pulses to the controller. After a number of pulses, the controller reverses the direction of
rotation and closes the channel bore.
While the channel bore is closing, pulses are sent again to the controller via the microswitch.
If the rotation is blocked by dirt or wear and tear, the controller will detect it and respond
independently.
If the controller cannot resolve the issue independently, a corresponding error message will
be displayed (refer to chapter 9).
The control unit features a voltage-free fault signal contact and a voltage-free contact for
remote monitoring. A backwash in progress is signalled via the voltage-free contact.
The control unit monitors the number of backwashes. It provides information about the
remaining number of backwashes in the current maintenance interval by case in combination
with a timed maintenance interval via a bar graph on the display.
