This manual
T is manual contains t e basic instructions for repairs and general maintenance of t e Ibis manually operated
w eelc air.
Mec anics w o do repairs on t is w eelc air must be well trained and familiar wit t e repair met ods and t e
maintenance of t e Ibis w eelc air.
Always make sure t at t e work is carried out safely, particularly wit respect to procedures requiring t e
w eelc air to be lifted up.
We advise t at you contact our service department before doing repair work on a w eelc air t at as been
involved in an accident.

Warranty stipulations concerning the wheelchair
In t e following warranty and liability stipulations t e terms and definitions as summed up ereafter must be
explained as follows:
• Product: T e manually operated or electric w eelc air or electric scooter manufactured and delivered
by Handicare.
• Customer: T e person w o directly obtains a Product from Handicare or an aut orised representative.
• Dealer: T e person w o delivers a Product obtained from Handicare to customers or t ird parties.
• User: T e person w o uses a Product manufactured by Handicare.
Irrespective of w at is determined concerning warranty conditions applicable to t e Product, in any case t e
following applies wit regard to t e warranty:
1. Except insofar as described ot erwise Handicare guarantees t e Product for its suitability for t e purpose for
w ic t e Product is intended - all of t ese points as described in t is manual - and for t e quality of t e
material of w ic t e Product is made and t e manner in w ic t e Product is manufactured.
2. Repairs or replacement of parts of t e Product t at may be necessary as a result of faults t at are based on
qualitatively faulty material or manufacturing errors will be executed free of c arge, as long as suc faults
occurred wit in one (1) year after t e date of delivery of t e Product to t e Customer. T e parts to be replaced
must be s ipped postage-paid to Handicare. Installation or removal of t ese parts is for t e Customer’s
account. T erefore, t e following cases are not eligible for free repair or replacement as meant above:
- T e repair or replacement t at is necessary in connection wit faults t at arise after one (1) year after t e
date of delivery of t e Product to t e Customer;
- T e repair or replacement t at is required in connection wit faults due to improper or careless use of t e
Product or t at are based on t e Product being used for anot er purpose t an t e one for w ic it is
intended, in w ic regard it applies t at if t e Customer is a Dealer, t is Dealer will indemnify Handicare
against possible claims from Users or ot er t ird parties for faults based on an incorrect or careless use
of t e Product;
- Parts t at are subject to wear and t e need for repair or replacement of t e parts are t e actual
consequence of normal wear. T ese can include, but are not limited to, tyres, s rouds, arm-pads, seating
etc.
3. Irrespective of t at stipulated under 2, it applies as far as an electric Product is concerned t at wit regard to
t e battery t at forms part of t e Product warranty is only given in case of faults or non-functioning of t e
battery t at are demonstrably t e direct consequence of material or manufacturing errors. A fault or non-
functioning of t e battery as a result of normal wear is not covered by t e warranty as meant in t ese warranty
stipulations. Similarly not covered by t e warranty are faults or non-functioning t at are t e consequence of
improper or unprofessional use of t e Product or t e battery t at is part of t e Product, including t e incorrect
c arging of t e battery and t e failure to carry out timely and good maintenance, in w ic context it also
applies t at if t e Customer is a Dealer, t is Dealer will indemnify Handicare against possible claims from
Users or ot er t ird parties t at are based on t e above mentioned improper or unprofessional use of t e
Product or t e battery t at is part of t e Product. Handicare does not guarantee batteries provided by dealers
or purc ased by t e customer.
4. T e warranty conditions as mentioned in above stipulations in any case become null and void if:
- T e guidelines of Handicare for t e maintenance of t e Product are not, or insufficiently, followed;
- A necessary repair or replacement of parts is based on neglect, damage or abuse of t e Product or a use
of t e Product for anot er purpose t an t e one for w ic it was intended;
- Parts of t e Product are replaced by parts of anot er origin t an t ose used by Handicare and/or parts of
t e Product are replaced wit out t e permission of Handicare.
5. T e warranties as mentioned in stipulations 1 t roug 3 also become null and void if w at is involved is re-
used by a new user wit in t e warranty period and t at suc re-use necessitates adaptations to t e w eelc air
and t ose adaptations are carried out wit out t e instructions and/or at t e order of Handicare.
6. To retain rig ts under t e warranties delineated above, t e Customer must, in case of damage or ot er
calamities, as rapidly as possible contact Handicare and inform t em as fully as possible. T e possibility of
taking recourse to t e above-mentioned warranty conditions becomes null and void for t e Customer in any
case after 20 workdays after t e claim situation or t e calamity arises t at was t e reason for t e recourse to
t e warranty.
7. T e replacement of a part or t e repair or t e reconditioning of t e Product wit in a current warranty period
does not extend t e warranty period.
8. Handicare gives no warranty on repair to or reconditioning of t e Product carried out ot er t an under order of
and/or at t e instructions of Handicare. If repairs and/or reconditioning are executed by or on be alf of a
Customer, t e Customer indemnifies Handicare wit respect to t e claims of t ird parties t at result, in t e
broadest sense of t e word, from suc repairs or reconditioning.

Liability stipulations concerning the Product
Irrespective of w at is determined regarding liability in t e general conditions applicable to t e Product, wit regard
to liability in any case t e following applies:
1. Taking into consideration t e following stipulations, Handicare only accepts liability for loss due to deat or
p ysical injury t at is t e result of a defect in t e Product for w ic Handicare is responsible and for damage
to anot er object t at is t e private property of t e user of t e Product, as long as said loss is t e direct result
of a fault in t e Product.
2. Handicare accepts no ot er or furt er liability t an delineated under 1. In particular Handicare accepts no
liability for consequential damage, in any form w atsoever.
Wheelchairs and the environment
If the wheelchair needs to be replaced, it can usually be taken back by your dealer. If this is not
possible, please contact your local authorities for the possibilities of recycling or an environmentally
friendly way of disposing of the used materials.
For the production of the wheelchair various plastics and metals have been used.
Depending on the version, the wheelchair can contain electronic components that belong to
electronic waste, while the batteries belong to chemical waste.

1.1 Maintenance table

It is recommended to ave your w eelc air serviced by your dealer at least once a year, or, in case of intensive
use, once every six mont s.
1.2 Battery
For maintenance see t e following documentation:
• Regulations concerning t e batteries.
• User manual of t e battery c arger.
T e w eelc air as 'dry' gel batteries. T ese dry batteries (dry-fit) are entirely sealed and maintenance free. T e
connection diagram for t e batteries is provided on a sticker inside t e battery tray.
• Make sure that the batteries are always well charged.
• Do not use the wheelchair if the batteries are almost flat. This may damage the batteries and you
run the risk to come to an unintended standstill.
• The use of 'wet' batteries is not permitted. If the batteries need to be replaced, use dry batteries
only.
1.3 Replacement and repair activities for the Ibis XA
1.3.1 Rear wheels
To ensure proper operation of t e w eelc air, it is very important t at t e tyres are kept at t e correct pressure.
Soft tyres yield less t an optimal driving for t e w eelc air. It also costs more energy to move t e w eelc air
forward. Moreover, tyre wear w en driving on soft tyres is unnecessarily great.
For t e rig t tyre tension, see ‘Product specifications'.
ote when filling the tyres that the pressure never exceeds the maximum specified value provided
in the table 'product specification', or as indicated on the side of the tyre. When in doubt, contact
your dealer / supplier.
For t e inspection of t e tyres, see t e 'maintenance table'.

1.3.2 Replacing rear wheels
T e rear w eels s ould be removed as follows:
• Remove locking nut (A) wit a 17 mm box spanner.
• Remove t e complete rear w eel (B) from axle (C).
• Remove t e tyres, see ‘Repairing t e tyre of t e rear
w eel’ or ‘Replacing t e tyre of t e rear w eel'.
Fit t e new w eel in t e reverse order.
Attention:
The locknut may not be used again – use a
new one when replacing.
Always check the proper locking of the rear
wheels. Try to pull the wheel out of the frame
in axial direction. If the wheel comes out, it is
not properly secured. In that case, you should
repeat the above actions.
1.3.3 Repairing the tyre of the rear wheel
Repair a flat tyre as follows:
• Remove t e rear w eel to be repaired from t e w eelc air. See ’Removing t e rear w eels’.
• Twist off t e valve to let t e air out of t e tyre completely.
• Using tyre levers pull one side of t e tyre across t e edge of t e rim.
• Remove t e inner tube from t e rim.
• Repair t e inner tube or replace it (t is is done in t e same way as a bicycle tyre).
Reassemble t e tyre (wit repaired or new inner tube) as follows:
• Put t e valve t roug t e opening in t e rim.
• Carefully place t e tyre around t e rim.
• Add a little air to t e inner tube in order to position it comfortably around t e rim.
• Pull t e tyre onto t e rim as far as possible.
• Allow all air to escape from t e inner tube.
• Now pull t e tyre completely onto t e centre of t e rim as tig tly as possible.
T e rim as a room into w ic t e tyre must be pulled, in order to create sufficient space to be able to pull t e
complete tyre onto t e rim by and.
• Pull t e tyre completely onto t e rim.
Do not use tyre levers to do this, because the inner tube is easily damaged by these. Moreover, the
tyre is easily assembled without tyre levers.
• Make sure t at t e tyre is properly fitted onto t e rim.
The inner tube may not protrude from under the tyre anywhere!
• Pump up t e tyre.
• Mount t e w eel back onto t e w eelc air. See ’Removing t e rear w eels’.
1.3. Replacing the tyre of the rear wheel
T e tyre s ould be replaced as follows:
• Remove t e rear w eel to be repaired from t e w eelc air. See ’Removing t e rear w eels’.
• Twist off t e valve to let t e air out of t e tyre completely.
• Using tyre levers, pull one side of t e tyre across t e edge of t e rim.
• Remove t e inner tube from t e rim.
• Remove t e ot er part of t e tyre from t e rim.
Now install a new tyre as follows:
• Place one side of t e new tyre across t e rim.

• Carefully place t e tyre around t e rim.

1.3.5 Adjusting the pressure brake
T e w eelc air is fitted wit pressure brakes on t e rear
w eels, w ic t e user can operate by and.
Proper functioning of t e brakes is essential. T at’s w y t e
brakes ave to be:
• properly adjusted
• replaced in time.
Adjust t e brakes as follows:
• Loosen screw (A) one turn using a 5 mm Allen key.
• Slide brake unit (B) along t e tube for t e adjustment.
- away from t e w eel: brake looser.
- towards t e w eel: brake tig ter.
• Tig ten t e screw in t e set position.

1. .2 Replacing the rear wheel of the Ibis XC
W en replacing a rear w eel, t e w eel may not be braked.
Replace t e rear w eel as follows:
• Support t e w eelc air in suc a way t at t e w eel is
elevated.
• Remove locking nut (A) wit a 12 mm box spanner.
• Pull w eel (B) off t e axle (C).
• Remove t e tyres; see ‘Repairing t e tyre of t e drive
w eel’ or ‘Replacing t e tyre of t e drive w eel’.
Fit t e new w eel in t e reverse order.
1. .3 Replacing the rear wheel of Ibis XC 16” (option)
W en replacing a rear w eel, t e w eel may not be braked.
Replace t e rear w eel as follows:
• Support t e w eelc air in suc a way t at t e w eel is
elevated.
• Remove locking nut (A) wit a 17 mm box spanner.
• Pull w eel (B) off t e axle (C).
• Remove t e tyres; see ‘Repairing t e tyre of t e drive
w eel’ or ‘Replacing t e tyre of t e drive w eel’.
Fit t e new w eel in t e reverse order.
1. . Replacing the rear wheel of Ibis XC with
Power Support (option)
W en replacing a rear w eel, t e w eel may not be braked.
Replace t e rear w eel as follows:
• Support t e w eelc air in suc a way t at t e w eel is
elevated.
• Remove nut (A) wit a 19 mm open-ended spanner.
• Remove w eel (B).
• Remove t e tyres; see ‘Repairing t e tyre of t e drive
w eel’ or ‘Replacing t e tyre of t e drive w eel’.
Fit t e new w eel in t e reverse order.

1. .5 Repairing the tyre of the rear wheel
W en repairing t e inner tube of a rear w eel, t e w eel s ould be braked, so t at it does not rotate at t e same
time.
Repair a flat tyre as follows:
• Support t e w eelc air in suc a way t at t e w eel is elevated.
• Pull out t e valve to completely deflate t e tyre.
• Using tyre levers pull t e front of t e tyre across t e edge of t e rim.
• Carefully pull t e inner tube across t e edge of t e rim.
• Pus t e valve from t e opening in t e rim.
• Pull t e inner tube from t e tyre for repair or replacement.
• Repair t e inner tube or replace it.
Now, t e repaired or new inner tube s ould be placed as follows:
• Put t e valve of t e inner tube t roug t e opening in t e rim.
• Press t e inner tube into t e tyre.
• Place t e tyre around t e rim.
• Use tyre levers to place t e tyre around t e rim: be careful not to damage t e inner tube wit t e tyre levers.
The inner tube must not become jammed between the rim and the tyre.
• Pump up t e inner tube, see 'tec nical data'.
• Remove t e support from under t e w eelc air.
T e w eelc air is ready for use.
1. .6 Replacing the tyre of the rear wheel
W en replacing a tyre of a rear w eel, t e w eel s ould be braked, so t at it does not rotate at t e same time.
Replace a tyre as follows:
• Support t e w eelc air in suc a way t at t e w eel is elevated.
• Pull out t e valve to completely deflate t e tyre.
• Using tyre levers pull t e front of t e tyre across t e edge of t e rim.
• Carefully pull t e inner tube across t e edge of t e rim.
• Pus t e valve from t e opening in t e rim.
• Pull t e inner tube from t e tyre.
• T e w ole tyre can now be removed.
Now t e tyres (wit repaired or new inner tube) s ould be assembled as follows:
• Place one side of t e tyre around t e rim.
• Put t e valve of t e inner tube t roug t e opening in t e rim and press t e inner tube into t e tyre.
• Place t e tyre around t e rim.
• Use tyre levers to place t e tyre around t e rim: be careful not to damage t e inner tube wit t e tyre levers.
The inner tube must not become jammed between the rim and the tyre.
• Pump up t e inner tube, see 'tec nical data'.
• Remove t e support from under t e w eelc air.
T e w eelc air is ready for use.

1. .7 Adjusting the brake of an Ibis XC
T e w eelc air is equipped wit drum brakes on t e rear
w eels, w ic can be eit er operated by and by t e user, or
wit t e foot by t e person pus ing t e w eelc air.
Proper functioning of t e brakes is essential. T at’s w y t e
brakes ave to be:
• properly adjusted
• replaced in time.
Adjust t e brakes as follows:
• Loosen nut (A).
• Remove nut (B) wit a 10 mm open-ended spanner.
- Clockwise: brake tig ter.
- Anti-clockwise: brake looser.
1. .8 Adjusting the pressure brake of the Ibis XC 16”
(option)
T e w eelc air is equipped wit drum brakes on t e rear
w eels, w ic can be eit er operated by and by t e user, or
wit t e foot by t e person pus ing t e w eelc air.
Proper functioning of t e brakes is essential. T at’s w y t e
brakes ave to be:
• Properly adjusted
• Replaced in time.
Adjust t e brakes as follows:
• Loosen screw (A) one turn using a 5 mm Allen key.
• Slide brake unit (B) along t e tube for t e adjustment.
- Away from t e w eel: brake looser.
- Towards t e w eel: brake tig ter.
• Tig ten t e screw in t e set position.
1. .9 Replacing the battery pack of the Ibis XC Power
Support (option)
Replace t e battery pack as follows:
• Disconnect cables (A) to t e motor and t e controller.
• Loosen t e four screws (A) using a 4 mm Allen key.
• Remove battery pack (C).
Fit t e battery pack in t e reverse order.

1. .10 Replacing the controller of the Ibis XC Power
Support (option)
Replace t e controller as follows:
• Cut t e Ty-Raps t at old t e cable.
• Loosen t ree cross- ead screws (A).
Remove t e controller.
Fit a new controller in t e reverse order.
1.5 Replacement and repair activities for the Ibis XP
1.5.1 Replacing the driven wheel
Replace a driven w eel as follows:
• Support t e w eelc air in suc a way t at t e w eel is
elevated.
• Loosen cross- ead screw (A).
• Remove protective cover (B).
• Loosen exagonal bolt (C) wit a 17 mm box spanner.
• Pull w eel (D) off t e axle (E).
Fit a new w eel in t e reverse order.

1.5. Replacing the motor
Replace t e motor as follows:
Step 1:
• Loosen t e star knobs (A).
• Remove battery cover (B).
• Remove fuses (C).
Step 2:
• Disconnect t e motor cable from power module (D).

Step 3:
• Remove t e w eel; see 'Replacing drive w eel'.
• Loosen t ree Allen bolts (A) and nut (B) wit a 5 mm Allen
key and remove motor (C). Use a 10 mm open-ended
spanner for t e nut.
Fit a new motor in t e reverse order.
1.5.5 Replacing the batteries
Replace t e batteries as follows:
Step 1:
• See 1.5.4 (step 1).
Step 2:
• Release battery strap (A).
• Disconnect t e cables from batteries (B) by unscrewing t e
bolts from t e battery terminals (C) wit a 10 mm open-
ended or ring spanner.
• Remove t e batteries from t e w eelc air.
Fit new batteries in t e reverse order.
1.5.6 Replacing the Power Module
Replace t e Power Module as follows:
Step 1:
• See 1.5.4 (step 1).
Step 2:
• Unscrew bot screws (A) wit a 3 mm Allen key and
remove battery pack (B).
Fit a new Power Module in t e reverse order.

1.5.7 Replacing the Controller
Replace t e controller as follows:
Step 1:
• See 1.5.4 (step 1).
Step 2:
• Cut t e Ty-Raps t at old t e cable to t e frame and to
ot er cabling.
• Loosen t e four screws (A).
• Remove t e controller (B).
Fit a new controller in t e reverse order.
1.6 Replacing the swivel castor
For t e proper functioning of t e w eelc air, it is very
important t at t e w eels are kept in order.
T e following parts can be replaced:
• W eel (A), see 'Replacing a w eel'.
• Fork (B), see 'Replacing a fork'.
1.6.1 Replacing a wheel
Replace a w eel as follows:
• Loosen t e Allen bolt (A) wit an Allen key wit a key widt
of 5 mm.
• Slide w eel (B) out of t e fork (C).
Fit a new w eel in t e reverse order.

1.6.2 Replacing a fork
Replace t e fork as follows:
• Remove t e w eel from t e fork; see 'Replacing a w eel'.
• Remove screw (A) wit a P illips screwdriver.
• Remove cap (B).
• Loosen bolt (C) using a 19 mm box spanner and prevent
nut (D) from moving wit a 19 mm ring spanner.
• Take fork (E) out of t e frame.
Take care not to lose t e was ers (F).
Mount t e fork in t e reverse order.
Attention:
The locknut may not be used again – use a
new one when replacing.
1.7 Cleaning
Removing dry dirt
Up olstery, metal parts and frame parts can usually be cleaned easily wit a dry soft clot .
Removing mud and/or other wet dirt
Parts t at are soiled wit wet dirt can best be cleaned by first wiping t e dirty parts wit a wet sponge and t en
wiping t em dry wit a dry soft clot .

Cleaning wit a damp clot and ouse old soap. After removing t e dirt t e cleaned parts s ould be wiped dry wit
a soft dry clot .
- ever use abrasive or aggressive cleansers. They may damage the wheelchair.
- Also do not use organic solvents such as thinner, dry-cleaning naphtha, or white spirit.
- Upholstery: do not dry clean, iron or spin dry.
