As with any instrument, this product will function properly only when installed, used and checked as
prescribed by the manufacturer.
FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN FAILURE TO OPERATE AS INTENDED, AND PERSONS
RELYING ON THIS PRODUCT FOR THEIR SAFETY MAY SUFFER PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
LIMITATIONS OF DETECTION SYSTEMS
An alarm detection system can be very useful in the timely warning of any dangerous event, in some
cases it can automatically provide for the management of events (broadcasting of messages for local
evacuation, automatic extinguishing of fires, blocking of doors or access routes, automatic warning to the
authorities, etc.), but in any case, it does not ensure protection against damage to property.
In addition, any system may not function properly if it is not installed and maintained in accordance with
the manufacturer's instructions.
• These instructions contain procedures to be followed to avoid damage to the devices. It is
assumed that the user of this manual has undergone training and is aware of applicable
regulations.
• The system and all its components must be installed in an environment with the following
characteristics:
• Temperature: 0 °C ¸ + 50 °C.
• Humidity: 10 % - 85 % (non-condensing).
• Peripheral devices (sensors, etc.) which are not perfectly compatible with the control unit can cause
both damage to the control unit itself and a malfunction of the system at the worst possible moment.
It is therefore essential to use only material guaranteed by NOTIFIER as compatible with its control
units. Please consult NOTIFIER Technical Service in case of doubt.
• This system, like all solid state components, can be damaged by induced electrostatic
voltages: handle the boards by the edges and avoid touching the electronic components.
• A good earth connection ensures a reduction in susceptibility to interference in any case.
• Please consult NOTIFIER Technical Service if you are unable to solve installation problems.
• Any electronic system will not function if it is not properly powered. In the event of a mains power
failure, the system ensures its operation by operating from the battery, but only for a limited period of
time. When designing the system, take into account the autonomy required to correctly size the
power supply and the batteries.
• Have the status of the batteries checked periodically by qualified personnel. Disconnect the
NETWORK and batteries BEFORE removing or inserting any cards.
• Disconnect ALL power sources from the control unit, BEFORE performing any
service operations.
• The control unit and the connected devices (sensors, modules, annunciators,
etc.) can be damaged if a card is inserted or removed, or if you connect the
live wires.
• The most common cause of malfunctions is inadequate maintenance.
• Pay particular attention to these aspects right from the design phase of the system, in order to
facilitate and therefore reduce the future costs of interventions.
• This control unit is CE marked to certify compliance with the requirements of the European
Community Directives

1) INTRODUCTION
The extremely innovative and versatile NFG-8 gas detection control unit is the ideal solution for
small systems with up to 16 gas detectors.
The system provides for the connection of 8 detectors with 4-20mA output directly to the control
unit. Each input can be configured for different types of gas: toxic, refrigerant, flammable and for
oxygen, both for deficiency and enrichment.
The backlit display provides an accurate indication of gas concentration and allows the display
of set alarm levels.
The control unit manages up to 22 relay outputs, 6 of which are on board the control unit and the
other 16 through the card.
NFG-16REL
The control unit is supplied in an ABS case and can contain 2 batteries of 12Vdc, 7Ah to ensure
the operation of the system even in case of power failure.
NFG-8 is, at the date of issue of this manual, under SIL1 and ATEX certification according to EN
60079-29-1.
Other features of the NFG-8 control unit, are:
•Event memory can be consulted from display or downloaded to PC from 1,000 events.
•USB and RS232 serial ports for connection to PC for programming and management using
PK-NFG-8 software.

This equipment must be installed and operated in accordance with these instructions and the
regulations in force at the place of installation.
2) INSTALLATION
2.1) Assembly and connections
Remove the 4 screws located at the 4 corners of the box and remove the front of the control unit
box. Now it is possible to choose where to insert the cables. We recommend that you insert the
cables using a suitable cable press.
Fix the rear part of the control unit to the wall using the holes provided.

Connect the three-pole mains cable (minimum 1.5mm2 for each pole) to the power
supply terminal block and tighten it with the cable clamp.
Power up the control unit and then connect the two 12 V 7 Ah lead buffer batteries in
series to the red and black faston cables of the power supply unit.

In addition, if you want to monitor the battery connection, you can connect two more
faston jumpers as shown in Figure 2.1 b).

2.2) Detector connection
The detectors with 4-20 mA analog output are connected to the control unit, directly on the main
board. For connection, the detector with 4-20 mA analog output requires a 3-conductor cable; 2
conductors for the power supply and one conductor for the 4-20 mA signal. The typical cable
suggested is a 3 x 0.75 shielded cable that allows to reach a distance up to 100 mt between the
gas detector and the control unit.
