Fire Alarm & Emergency Communication System Limitations
While a life safety system may lower insurance rates, it is not a substitute for life and property insurance!
An automatic fire alarm system—typically made up of smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, audible warning devices, and a fire alarm control panel
(FACP) with remote notification capability—can provide early warning of a developing fire. Such a system, however, does not assure protection against property damage
or loss of life resulting from a fire.
An emergency communication system—typically made up of an automatic fire alarm system (as described above) and a life safety communication system that may
include an autonomous control unit (ACU), local operating console (LOC), voice communication, and other various interoperable communication methods—can
broadcast a mass notification message. Such a system, however, does not assure protection against property damage or loss of life resulting from a fire or life safety event.
The Manufacturer recommends that smoke and/or heat detectors be located throughout a protected premises following the recommendations of the current edition
of the Fire Protection Association Australia recommendations, State and local codes, and the recommendations contained in the Guide for Proper Use of System
Smoke Detectors, which is made available at no charge to all installing dealers. This document can be found at http:// www.systemsensor.com/appguides/. While fire
alarm systems are designed to provide early warning against fire, they do not guarantee warning or protection against fire. A fire alarm system may not provide timely
or adequate warning, or simply may not function, for a variety of reasons:
Smoke detectors may not sense fire where smoke cannot reach the detectors such as in chimneys, in or behind walls, on roofs, or on the other side of closed doors.
Smoke detectors also may not sense a fire on another level or floor of a building. A second-floor detector, for example, may not sense a first-floor or basement fire.
Particles of combustion or “smoke” from a developing fire may not reach the sensing chambers of smoke detectors because:
•Barriers such as closed or partially closed doors, walls, chimneys, even wet or humid areas may inhibit particle or smoke flow.
•Smoke particles may become “cold,” stratify, and not reach the ceiling or upper walls where detectors are located.
•Smoke particles may be blown away from detectors by air outlets, such as air conditioning vents.
•Smoke particles may be drawn into air returns before reaching the detector.
The amount of “smoke” present may be insufficient to alarm smoke detectors. Smoke detectors are designed to alarm at various levels of smoke density. If such density
levels are not created by a developing fire at the location of detectors, the detectors will not go into alarm.
Smoke detectors, even when working properly, have sensing limitations. Detectors that have photoelectronic sensing chambers tend to detect smoldering fires better
than flaming fires, which have little visible smoke. Detectors that have ionizing-type sensing chambers tend to detect fast-flaming fires better than smoldering fires.
Because fires develop in different ways and are often unpredictable in their growth, neither type of detector is necessarily best and a given type of detector may not
pro- vide adequate warning of a fire.
Smoke detectors cannot be expected to provide adequate warning of fires caused by arson, children playing with matches (especially in bedrooms), smoking in bed,
and violent explosions (caused by escaping gas, improper storage of flammable materials, etc.).

Heat detectors do not sense particles of combustion and alarm only when heat on their sensors increases at a predetermined rate or reaches a predetermined level.
Rate-of-rise heat detectors may be subject to reduced sensitivity over time. For this reason, the rate-of-rise feature of each detector should be tested at least once per
year by a qualified fire protection specialist. Heat detectors are designed to protect property, not life.
Smoke detectors must be installed in the same room as the control panel and in rooms used by the system for the connection of alarm transmiss
ion wiring,
communications, signaling, and/or power. If detectors are not so located, a developing fire may damage the alarm system, compromising its ability to report a fire.
Audible warning devices such as bells, horns, strobes, speakers and displays may not alert people if these devices are located on the other side of closed or partly
open doors or are located on another floor of a building. Any warning device may fail to alert people with a disability or those who have recently consumed drugs,
alcohol, or medication. Please note that:
•An emergency communication system may take priority over a fire alarm system in the event of a life safety emergency.
•Voice messaging systems must be designed to meet intelligibility requirements as defined by local codes, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
•Language and instructional requirements must be clearly disseminated on any local displays.
•Strobes can, under certain circumstances, cause seizures in people with conditions such as epilepsy.
•Studies have shown that certain people, even when they hear a fire alarm signal, do not respond to or comprehend the meaning of the signal. Audible devices, such
as horns and bells, can have different tonal patterns and frequencies. It is the property owner's responsibility to conduct fire drills and other training exercises to
make people aware of fire alarm signals and instruct them on the proper reaction to alarm signals.
•In rare instances, the sounding of a warning device can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss.
A life safety system will not operate without any electrical power. If AC power fails, the system will operate from standby batteries only for a specified time and only if
the batteries have been properly maintained and replaced regularly.
Equipment used in the system may not be technically compatible with the control panel. It is essential to use only equipment listed for service with your control panel.
Telephone lines needed to transmit alarm signals from a premise to a central monitoring station may be out of service or temporarily disabled. For added protection
against telephone line failure, backup radio transmission systems are recommended.
The most common cause of life safety system malfunction is inadequate maintenance. To keep the entire life safety system in excellent working order, ongoing
maintenance is required per the manufacturer's recommendations, and standards. At a minimum, the requirements of Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) shall be
followed. Environments with large amounts of dust, dirt, or high air velocity require more frequent maintenance. A maintenance agreement should be arranged through
the local manufacturer's representative. Maintenance should be scheduled as required by National and/or local fire codes and should be performed by authorized
professional life safety system installers only. Adequate written records of all inspections should be kept.

2.5 The Main PCB Layout
The fire alarm control panel has a printed circuit board (PCB), which includes a central processing unit (CPU), ports, LEDs, and other electronic components.
The following figure illustrates the panel’s interfaces, which connect with loops, relays, control points, and so on.

2.5.1 Power Ratings
When mains is disconnected, the maximum current drawn by the panel from the batteries is 0.7 A in the quiescent condition and 6.97 A in the alarm condition.
The current value may vary as per the load conditions.
FOR PRIMARY POWER CABLE CONNECTIONS, THE USE OF RIGID CONDUIT IS REQUIRED.
3Installation
3.1 Installation Procedure
Perform the following steps to install the fire alarm control panel:
1. Unboxing the panel
•Remove the panel from the package and check the product completely before you discard the packaging box.
•Check the product to see if any damage has occurred during the transit.
•If there is no damage, then proceed with the installation .
•If the product is damaged, return to supplier, re-using the same package wherever possible. Include written details of the damage.

2. Panel mounting
Perform the following steps to mount the panel on the wall as per the surface mounting method:
•Hold the panel on to the wall at the position you want
to install it. Verify the space available for opening the
door of the panel and if the panel is accessible.
•Unlock the panel door using the door key.
•Mark the position of top center hole on the wall for
drilling.
•Drill the hole and install the screws with
recommended size: M6 x 40 mm.
•Mount the panel on top of the screws.
•Use the spirit level indicator to adjust the panel to the
horizontal plane.
•Mark the bottom two holes position on the wall for
drilling.
•Drill the hole and install the screws with
recommended size: M6 x 40 mm.
•Remove the required number of cable-entry
knockouts (refer to Fig. 5) from the panel.
•Mount the panel with the 4 screws.

Remove the panel after marking and before drilling the hole to avoid any damage to the panel.





The hub shall be connected to the conduit before the hub is connected to the enclosure.

3. Install two 26 Ah batteries inside the panel. Recommended battery : AUSCELL 26 Ah.
The standby batteries should be in the enclosure as shown in Fig. 6. Allow a
sufficient air gap between them (10 mm recommended) to allow for heat
dissipation.

Wiring the batteries
•Connect the batteries using the wire (with P18 connector) provided in the panel installation kit.
•The battery wiring should be done using the screws for 26 Ah batteries.
•It is recommended to connect the DC input first and then connect the main PCBA to the batteries using the cable
harness.
-Label the batteries with the date of installation.
-Labels should be clearly visible without the need to move or disturb the batteries or the battery wiring.
•Using the cable harness provided with the panel, install the thermistor. Ensure the thermistor is affixed to the
sidewall of one of the batteries, using a suitable silicon sealant.
•Cables and Wiring
-The wiring installation should conform to the national, regional, or local standards applicable for the specific
installation.
-Except for AC Mains, TCP/IP and USB Inputs, all field-wiring connections are connected using two-part
screw-terminal plug and socket connectors located on the PCB.
-Cable and wiring conductors must have a circular cross section. The connectors can accept cross-sectional
areas of between 1.0 mm
2
and 2.5 mm

A BATTERY CHARGER FAILURE fault indication is given if the thermistor lead is disconnected.
The thermistor is calibrated for use only with the panel Base PCB with which it is supplied.
DO NOT use the thermistor with any other panel as this may reduce the capacity / life of the batteries!

•External Power Connection
-Receives power from an internal power supply unit.
For the internal power supply details, refer to Chapter 2.5.1.
-The external mains supply cable must be terminated at the Mains Termination Block (MTB) located on the
bracket.
-The incoming power cable Ground or Earth (green/yellow) wire must be connected to the MTB earth connection
(middle terminal).
-Connect the Neutral (blue) wire to the Left terminal (marked as Neutral in the figure) and connect the Phase or
Live (brown) wire to the right terminal (marked as Line in the figure). The MTB has an integral fuse.

3.2 Real-time Clock with battery
During a total power loss, a 3 V button cell (CR2025) lithium battery on the CPU provides backup for the CPU’s on-board memory for real-time clock retention.
This battery’s shelf-life is more than 10 years. To replace the lithium battery:
1. Make a full backup of all the system settings to prevent loss of all programming data.
2. Disconnect all the power sources.
3. Remove the battery from under clip (use fingers, because screwdriver could damage the components) and insert new battery.
THE BATTERY USED IN THIS DEVICE MAY PRESENT A RISK OF FIRE OR CHEMICAL BURN IF MISTREATED. DO NOT RECHARGE, DISASSEMBLE, HEAT
ABOVE 60°C, OR INCINERATE. REPLACE THE BATTERY WITH
CR2025 3 V ONLY. USE OF ANOTHER BATTERY MAY PRESENT A RISK OF FIRE OR
EXPLOSION.
4. Dispose of the used battery promptly. Keep away from children. Do not disassemble and do not dispose of in fire.

3.3 Loop Wiring connectors
The SLC (detector) circuits should be installed as loops with or without isolator modules. The wiring details are as described below.

•The detection loop connections are made on terminal blocks at the top of the base card.
•The 1-loop variant has only one connector available – i.e. Loop 1.
The 2-loop variant has four connectors available. In the 2-loop variant only Loops 1
and 2 are used for connection.
To identify the Loop 1 and Loop 2, refer to Fig. 1, “The Main PCB Layout”.
•The loop is formed by taking wires from the positive and negative terminals, at one
side of the connector on the base card.
•It is recommended that short-circuit isolators be installed. Install the isolators at
strategic points in the loop (i.e. zonal boundaries) to prevent an external short circuit
from affecting more than a zone in the system.
•The fire regulations of some regions mandate that all loop devices must be fitted
with isolators, especially when using loop-powered sounders, to ensure that not a
single device is lost because of a loop wiring fault. Many loop devices are now fitted
with internal isolators - check with your supplier for details.
•In the case of individual loop I/O modules installed for use as Fire Fan control
interface (Fan Start Point, Fan Stop Point, Fan Status Point, Fan Fault Point), it is
required that the Start Point module is installed at an address before the Stop Point
mod
ule in the loop, with all the input and output module addresses also set
sequentially.
DO NOT loop the wiring under any terminals. Break the wire run to maintain supervision.
Connect the screen drain wire to the nearest earthing point in the enclosure.

3.4 Notification Appliance Circuits (On-Board NACs)
•Notification circuits are supervised, power limited, Class B wires, which may be connected to energy-limited cable.
•Only the compatible, Notification Appliances that are listed in Device Compatibility Document are recommended.
•Wire Notification Appliances according to the manufacturer's instructions packaged with each device.
•The On-Board NAC1 output current is 500 mA for regulated NACs.
•The On-Board NAC2 is for DA30/60 OWS (CIE + & CIE -)output current is 500 mA for special application NACs.
•Add the resistor (R21-0036-000) 10K EOLR at the end of the device.
To identify the NAC interface, refer to Fig. 1, “The Main PCB Layout”.
THE NAC SHOULD NOT BE CONNECTED TO THE POWER SUPPLY AT ANY TIME. CONNECTING TO A POWER SUPPLY DAMAGES THE COMPONENT.
3.5 Auxiliary Relay Outputs
The Fire Alarm Control Panels have three, unsupervised, relay outputs, with volt-free (dry contact) changeover contacts. These are assigned to Fault, Fire Alarm, and
Programmable conditions, respectively.
Fire, Fault and Programming output are rated at 24 V AC / DC, 1 Amp. This rating is applicable for special applications filtered DC.
Connect the screen drain wire to the nearest earthing point in the enclosure. The panel provides the following set of Auxiliary Relay Outputs:
•Fire relay
•Fault relay is normally held in an energized state. It will de-energize under fault conditions.
•Programmable relay By default it is configured for supervisory state. Programmable relay is configurable between supervisory state or programmable relay (user
programmable conditions.)

NOTE THAT FOR COMPLIANCE, THE INSTALLER MUST ENSURE THAT THE PROGRAMMABLE RELAY IS CONFIGURED AS A COMMON SUPERVISORY
OUTPUT, IF THE FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL IS CONFIGURED TO MONITOR SUPERVISORY CONDITIONS.
The relays are non-power limited and need separate conduit wiring.
3.6 Auxiliary Supply Outputs
The Fire Alarm Control Panels have two power-limited, unsupervised auxiliary output power supplies - AUX1 (500 mA) and AUX3 (3.5 A).
•AUX1 can be used for powering ARE / ASE.
•AUX3 can be used for OWS DA 30 / 60.
