1. Safety Information
Kindly follow all the guidelines as suggested in this document. Maintain the standard safety
practices of electric installation under consideration along with the safety directives of this
document.
Strictly comply with all the safety instructions provided in this document before performing
any operations with the equipment. For an individual’s own safety and for operational
reliability, comply with all warnings, guidelines and instructions. The provided protection can
be impaired if the unit is not used in accordance with the operating instructions.
1.1. Safety Label Definitions
The E-Mon meter may contain one or more of the following labels. Operator(s) should
familiarize themselves with the meaning of each label to minimize risk.
DANGER: The presence of this label is a cautionary indicator identifying a
danger risk. The manual should be consulted prior to proceeding.
Electric Shock Hazard: The presence of this label indicates an electrical
shock hazard exists in the location or area where the label is placed. Prior
to proceeding, the MAINS power must be disconnected, and the manual
consulted for safety information.

1.2. Precautionary and Safety Symbols
CAUTION: Internal circuit card components are susceptible to
electrostatic discharge and humans can easily experience shock. Be
careful to not touch the internal circuit unless you are completely
discharged. To discharge yourself, touch a ground metal object, or an
earth grounded metal.
WARNING: High Voltage in the main PCB terminals. Risk of serious injury
and/or electric shock. Immediate hazards which must be addressed,
failing to comply may result in severe personal injury.
WARNING: Never open the panel or work on the meters when unit is
connected to the main power supply. Failure to comply may lead to serious
injuries and/or electrical shock.
WARNING: Hazards or unsafe practices which may result in minor
personal injury, product or property damage. Installation or repairs made
by unqualified persons could result in equipment malfunction, property
damage, or personal injury.

1.3. General Safety Instructions
The following instructions are important for a safe and secure operation and commissioning
of the E-Mon® energy meters. Since the meter operation involves high voltage, utmost
precautions must be taken during all stages of interacting with the meter. With most of the
readings available on the mobile application or monitoring screen, it is advised to avoid
touching the meter body except front panel.
•Use the unit only when it is in a technically tested and functional condition. Use for
intended applications only. Ensure functionality of safety components before
installation.
•Please be aware of safety and risk measures, read the relevant documents before
commissioning & Installation.
•Disconnect and/or replace all the worn-out/damaged units before installation for
electrical Safety Reasons.
•Contact the manufacturer in case of malfunction, kindly avoid handling the device in
absence of trained personnel.
•Connect the unit only to permissible electric power supply lines. Kindly refer
Installation Guide for more details.
•The safety of the system into which the unit will be integrated is the responsibility of
the trained personnel.
•External current sensors (CS’s) are not included in the evaluation. The CS shall be UL
Listed or XOBA, and UL Listed PICQ CT’s if installed in the same enclosure as the
meter.
•These meters have been tested for use with external connecting copper conductors
only.
•Only trained personnel are permitted to perform installation and service work.
•Please note that this description is general and cannot delve into the specific
functions of each unit. For the characteristics of your unit, please refer to the technical
information and catalog.
•Make provisions for disconnecting the meter from other network components prior to
installation.
•Install the isolating mechanism at an easily reachable spot marked as disconnecting
measure for the device.
•The accuracy of the measurement function is investigated under ANSI C12.20
standards.

1.4. Installation Safety Instructions
The installation involves high voltage as well as various equipment/elements/connection
points/exposed zones capable of delivering powerful electrical shocks. Users are advised to
follow caution while handling the equipment setup.
•Before any installation or maintenance work, disconnect the unit from all voltage
sources and make sure that there are no exposed dangerous wires.
•AC supply units must be disconnected from the adjacent low-voltage networks and
marked with a separator using switch or circuit breaker.
•The device shall be available in disconnected condition in the final product.
•Only trained personnel shall perform installation and configuration and must be
carried out in accordance with the national and international standards.
•The installer shall use conduit fittings that maintains the environmental rating of type
4 when installing the CS and meter in polymeric enclosure type 4.
•Ensure all low voltage inputs are protected from hazardous live wires by double or
reinforced insulation.
•During installation, make sure that the powersupply and wiring of the output contacts
are supplied by the same mains phase so that max permissible voltage shall not
exceed.
•Insulation to surrounding components should be evaluated after installation in the
end-product.
•To reduce risk of electric shock, always open/disconnect the monitored circuit from
power-distribution system before installing current-sensors.
•The terminals shall be closed using appropriate POZIDRIV no. 1 with approximately
0.8 Nm torque.
•Unused terminals must be sealed with maximum torque to avoid loosening and
exposure. Please refer to the technical data sheet.
•Use only shielded cable for signal and control lines. Apply cable shielding on both
sides. Flying leads minimum cross-section 0.14 mm2.

1.5. Operational Safety Instructions
The application area of this unit is in industrial, commercial processes and controls of
manufacturing lines such as metal, wood, plastic, paper, glass, and textile industries, among
others.
•Voltage surges on the screw terminals of the unit must be limited to the value of Surge
category II.
•The device shall be operated only in the properly installed and tested condition.
•The E-Mon meters are tested for use at -13 to 158ºF (-25 to 70°C) ambient temperature
range. Additional testing is required if used beyond mentioned temperature range.
•These meters have been evaluated for use in Overvoltage Category III and intended for
installation on the load side with suitable branch circuit protection.
•Meter is tested with CS using branch circuit protection rated 15A.
•Compliance to safety instructions is mandatory.
•The unit is not suitable for explosion-proof areas and the areas of use excluded in
IEC/EN 61010 Part 1.
•Additional safety precautions must be taken for monitoring machinery or
manufacturing process.
•The unit is designed for both indoor and outdoor.
•The E-Meter comes with a metallic enclosure. Check Description in section 3.2.3. If
installed otherwise, the installed enclosure shall provide a Pollution Degree 2 or better
environment for this equipment, when doing so please ensure UV protection.
1.6. Maintenance Safety Instructions
•Clean the display and front body of the meter with a soft lint free cloth. Cleaning of the
installed meter is restricted as it shall only be done by trained personnel.
•To reduce risk of electric shock, always open or disconnect the monitored circuit from
power-distribution system (or service) of building before servicing current-sensors.
•This unit is maintenance-free during normal operation. In case the unit does not
function as intended, it must be returned to the factory for repair.
•Unauthorized opening and repair are prohibited as it can impair the original protection
of the unit.

Mon® Class 6000 energy meter with smart monitoring.
This manual offers information on features and functions available in E-Mon® energy meters.

3. Overview
The E-Mon® meter is poly phase energy meter which offers smart energy metering solution.
The device is capable of monitoring electric energy usage of individual loads through the
utility meter and storing kW and kVAR data for automatic meter reading. The E-Mon® energy
meter measures and records both the import and export energy values.
The E-Mon® energy meter allows users to monitor electrical behavior including power quality
via an E-Mon® Energy mobile application. The meter has measurement capabilities for
electrical values such as current, voltage, and frequency that are required to monitor per-
phase electrical load setup. The E-Mon® energy meter offers energy reading, demand as well
as billing and load profiles.

Configuration can be done via the smartphone Application using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
interface. Check Table 1 or more information. It allows the users to get a comprehensive power
monitoring through connected devices. E-Mon® energy meter is secure against cyber-
attacks and hacking. Data security is ensured in the meter with crypto chip.

The meter has a range of measurement capabilities which can be used along with the E-Mon®
energy meter application. Refer to the table below for description of the E-Mon® energy meter
models.
The meters come in several variants for operation as per the application and mounting
necessities. The E-Mon® Class 6000 meter shall be used with a calibrated CS, details on CS is

3.2. Features
The E-Mon® energy meter enables users to manage energy cost in an easier way with
optimized user experience.
Advanced analysis feature of the meter provides high end operational reliability. The
Bluetooth application readout function enables users to check electrical values with secure
and encrypted data transmission. Key features of the energy meter are mentioned in the
subsequent sections.

The E-Mon® Class 6000 meters are easily configurable and manageable through the E-Mon
energy meter mobile phone application. You can download and install the app from the app
store for android phones. The meters are supported by mobile App for commissioning,
installation and troubleshooting.

3.2.1. Rotating Terminals
The device is easy to connect using the rotating terminals as per the available mounting (rail
or wall mounting). Kindly refer to the Hardware Installation Guide for details on mounting
instruction.
The rotating terminals are designed with locks to secure vacant/unused ports and meter
connection. The rotating terminals shall be used with care for safety reasons.
•Unscrew the terminals completely at first for using the rotating terminals.
•Gently pull out the grey rotating terminals from top and bottom.
•Rotate the grey rotating terminals as per wiring is required.
•Fix the rotating caps by keeping them parallel to the port and clipping them back at
the top and bottom ends.
•Once the terminals are mounted, the wires can be fixed with screws as mentioned in
safety instructions.
•The connection wires shall be joined via the connector terminals marked as L1, L2, L3
and N. Please pay attention to the current sensor polarity (white = positive =S1) as
mentioned in the instruction sheet.
•Once the terminals are locked in and complete connections are made, users can seal
the terminals using the red slider sealing button available at the top and bottom of the
rotating terminals.

NOTE
•Never open the terminal when the meter is charged.
•The grey rotating terminal blocks must be clipped and fixed to the meter before
wiring.

3.2.2. Setup Sealing Button

The setup sealing button is dedicated switch for locking in the system configuration settings.
The settings are done using the front panel display and navigation buttons and all the system
related setup shall be locked prior to the meter operation.
3.2.3. Protective Enclosures
The E-Mon Class 6000 meter comes with a metallic and plastic enclosure for operational
safety and miscellaneous protection from external influence. The protective enclosure is
designed for durability and robustness and allows the meter to operate outdoors as well as
Indoor. The enclosure protects the meter body and helps in operational continuity in adverse
environmental conditions.
Note
•Practice caution and avoid touching the panel when it is powered on.
•Ensure that the setup is sealed using the red sealable button after performing the
connection and configuration.

The enclosure body comes with a transparent window for ease of reading the meter display
and checking the LED signals. It is designed for viewing the front panel display and protecting
the same from withering or damage. The transparent panel is carefully designed for
toughness and offers a protective cover to the front panel LCD screen.
Post commissioning and starting of the meter, the metallic enclosure shall be locked for
added protection from external interference as well as weather protection. Please refer to the
mounting instruction document Section 11.2.1.

3.2.4. Bluetooth Communication
The E-Mon® energy meter can be paired with android phone for fast and easy commissioning
and meter readouts. The energy meter communicates via Bluetooth connectivity, and users
can monitor it with the help of the E-Mon application.
Download the E-Mon® and pair the device using Bluetooth for meter communication. Please
refer to section 4.4.3 for pairing options. The LED indicator is programmed to display
Bluetooth connectivity status as the device pairs with the E-Mon App.
Use the Bluetooth connectivity of your mobile device for meter commissioning with App. The
communication is encrypted and secure to safeguard sensitivity of shared information. Pair
the mobile device using numeric comparison (Pairing Code) and use the mobile application
for commissioning and setting up the meter parameters.
WARNING!
•Kindly provide a proper ground wiring to the enclosure. Failure to attach the
protective earth ground wire securely to the meter steel enclosure terminal leads to
shock hazard.
•Do not operate the meter without a securely installed protective earth ground
connection.

3.2.5. Central control via application
The E-Mon® application provides a centralized control of energy meter with the help of a smart
phone. Mobile app is available online for download which is simple to install in any smart
phone. Smart device with E-Mon® App can pair with the meter for meter readings and fast
meter commissioning.

Mobile phone application requires Bluetooth communication for interaction with the energy
meter. The pairing is secured with a numeric comparison method that requires verification
from the meter front panel. The meter shows Blue Blinking signal confirming the pairing.
Please refer Table 2. LED behavior for more details on LED.
1. Download and Install the E-Mon® App from App Store.
2. Tap on the icon to launch the App and create a project or select a project from list.
3. Tap on the (+) icon on the bottom right of the screen to search device.
4. Turn on the Bluetooth of device and enable Bluetooth Discovery Mode by pressing Up
button for 3 seconds on meter front panel.
5. Tap on the discovered meter serial number to pair with phone using the numeric
comparison.
6. Confirm the numeric code on meter and phone and tap start commissioning.
Check for the meter pairing using Bluetooth numeric comparison and use the application for
fast meter commissioning. Always keep the Application updated before pairing with the meter
