Thermocouple
APPLICATION
The Q340A Thermocouple is a single-junction
thermocouple lead which provides a 30 mV electrical
signal when the pilot is operating. Loss of the pilot
removes the electrical current and shuts off the gas
supply to the burner.
SPECIFICATIONS
Temperature Ratings:
Hot Junction area: 1400°F (760°C).
Cold Junction Area: 780°F (416°C).
Lead Lengths:
18 in. (0.5 m) to 48 in. (1.2 m) are available.
INSTALLATION
When Installing This Product…
1. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow
them could damage the product or cause a
hazardous condition.
2. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on
the product to make sure the product is suitable for
your application.
3. Installer must be a trained, experienced technician.
4. After installation is complete, check out product
operation as provided in these instructions.
WARNING
Fire or Explosion Hazard.
Can cause property damage, serious
injury or death.
Make sure the gas supply to the burner is turned
off before removing or installing the
thermocouple.
Replacement Installation
1. Disconnect and remove the old thermocouple.
2. Determine the type of thermocouple mount:
a. Screw-in type.
b. Clamp type.
c. Push-in type.
3. Follow the applicable installation instructions in
Fig. 1.

Completing the Connection
1. Connect the other end of the thermocouple to the
safety control. Do not use thread compound; the
connection must be clean and dry.
CAUTION
Equipment Damage Hazard.
Too much torque will damage the connection.
Tighten connector only 1/4 in. turn beyond
finger-tight for good electrical continuity. Further
tightening can result in damage.
2. Make sure to tighten all connection screws
securely.
3. Connect the limit control wires to the thermocouple
junction block terminals. If no limit control is used,
jumper the terminals on the junction block with
heavy gauge wire.
4. Turn on the gas supply and light the pilot light.
5. Wait one minute and turn on the main burner.
