Hardware installation
Overview of the SBM
The HP MSR Survivable Branch Communication Module (SBM) powered
by Microsoft Lync™ is a branch office survivable voice server for the
Microsoft Lync solution.
The HP MSR SBM is an HP MSR application running on a HP MSR Open
Architecture Platform (OAP) Module. The module is installed in an HP
MSR 30 Series or MSR 50 Series Router at the branch office.
The HP MSR SBM includes a Windows Server 2008 R2 that runs as the
base OS. Running on this server, is a Microsoft Lync Server 2013
Survivable Branch Appliance that integrates with the main office
Standard or Enterprise Lync Server Pool and handles services for the
branch office.
The HP MSR SBM provides survivability; if the WAN connection to the
main office data center fails, the HP MSR SBM routes all calls over its
public switched telephone network (PSTN) connection.
The HP MSR SBM is managed through an easy to use Web browser
interface. The Windows Server 2008 R2 OS running on the module can
also be accessed with Remote Desktop.
Updating router software
Before installing the OAP module, you must verify that the router is
running MSR software version R2209P15 or later and update the
software, if necessary. You must install the correct software version for the
router to recognize the module.
a. Visit the HP web portal at www.hp.com/networking/support to
check the version number of the latest module-compatible software.
b. Check the version number of the software installed on the router.
Connect to the router CLI and use the following command:

Installing the HP MSR SBM
Installation precautions
Static electricity can severely damage the electronic components on the
module. When handling and installing the module, follow these
procedures to avoid damage from static electricity:
{Handle the module by its bulkhead or edges and avoid touching the
components and the circuitry on the board.
{When installing the module, equalize any static charge difference
between your body and the router by wearing a grounding wrist
strap and attaching it to the router’s metal body, or by frequently
touching the router’s metal body.
•The module has "low-force, high-performance" connectors. High
insertion forces are not necessary to install the module, and should not be
used.
•Make sure the module is fully inserted. Press the module into the slot until
the bulkhead on the module contacts or is very close to contacting the
front face of the router chassis.
•Once the module is fully inserted, screw in the two retaining screws to
secure the module in place.
•For safe operation, proper router cooling, and reduction of
electromagnetic emissions, make sure a slot cover is installed on any
unused module slot. For safety, no more than one slot should be
uncovered at a time, even temporarily, when the router is powered on.
Check the temperature specifications for the module; different modules
have different temperature requirements.

•HP OAP modules fall into three categories: FIC-OAP modules (for HP
MSR50 routers), MIM-OAP modules (for HP MSR30 routers), and
MIM-OAPS modules (also for HP MSR30 routers). FIC-OAP modules are
hot-swappable. You can install or remove a FIC-OAP module while the
HP MSR50 router is on. The MIM-OAP module and MIM-OAPS module
are not hot-swappable. You must turn off the HP MSR30 router before
installing or removing the MIM-OAP or MIM-OAPS module.
CAUTION:
•To avoid Lync SBM host exception, shut down the Lync SBM host before
you unplug the FIC-OAP module when the HP MSR50 router is powered
on.
•To avoid Lync SBM host exceptions, shut down the Lync SBM host and
turn off the HP MSR30 router before you remove the MIM-OAP or
MIM-OAPS module.
Installing the module
1. If you install the module in an unused slot, use a Torx T-10 or flat-bladed
screwdriver to unscrew the screws in the cover plates over the slot where
you will install the module. Store the cover plates for possible future use.
2. Hold the module by its bulkhead, taking care not to touch the metal
connectors or components on the boards.
3. Open the extractor handles.
4. Insert the module, aligning with the guides in the slots, and slide it into
the slot until it is fully inserted.
5. Once the module is fully inserted, use the extractor handles to set it
completely.
6. Tighten the screws.

Verifying the installation
If you have installed the module in a powered off HP MSR router, power
up the router. After the router powers up, the module will begin to power
up. If you have installed the module in a powered on HP MSR50 router,
the module begins to power up immediately.

CAUTION:
Do not remove the module or interrupt the power up process in any way.
The boot process may take several minutes to complete.
You can determine when this process is complete by viewing the SYS
status LED, which slowly flashes in green color when the module is ready.

The value 0 in Table 2 indicates that the router does not support the
module.

Getting started
Before installing and using the HP MSR SBM, make sure the network to
which it will access is available, and the domain manager, DNS server,
and Lync server are successfully installed.
Obtaining connectivity to the HP MSR SBM
The HP MSR SBM products have no default management IP addresses
when they are shipped. Therefore, after installing the OAP module,
obtain connectivity to the HP MSR SBM's management interface, and
then you can access the HP MSR SBM and install the system by using the
Setup Wizard.
You have two choices for reaching the HP MSR SBM: on its domain name
or IP address.
Accessing the HP MSR SBM on its domain name
If the DHCP and DNS servers are successfully installed, HP recommends
that you contact the HP MSR SBM at an FQDN in your domain. The serial
number of the HP MSR Survivable Branch Communication Module (SBM)
powered by Microsoft Lync™ is the initial domain name that you can use
to access the HP MSR SBM. The serial number is posted on the front
panel of the card, as shown in the following figure. The serial number is
a string containing ten characters, which may include letters and
numbers, as shown in the figure below:

Obtaining the initial management IP address
The HP MSR SBM products have no default management IP addresses
when they are shipped. You have three ways to obtain the initial IP
address:
•From the DHCP server, view the initial management IP address assigned
by the DHCP server.
•From the HP MSR SBM CLI, view the initial management IP address
assigned by the DHCP server.
•From the HP MSR SBM CLI, set the management IP address.
Viewing the initial management IP address from the DHCP server
The serial number of the HP MSR SBM is the default host name of the HP
MSR SBM. You can query the assigned IP address by viewing the host
name displayed on the DHCP server. For more information, see DHCP
server-related documentation.
For the DHCP servers do not support IP address query by using host
names, you can use the following two methods to obtain the
management IP address.
Viewing the initial management IP address from the HP MSR SBM CLI
NOTE:
You can log in to the MSR through the console port or Telnet. For more
information, see the MSR installation guide. This section takes Telnet lo

as an example.
As shown in the figure below, log in to the management port of the HP
MSR, and then access the SBM through the serial port on the MSR's
backplane. Follow these steps:
1. Telnet the IP address of the management port of the MSR
(152.67.110.1, for example).
2. Enter the user name and password of the MSR as prompted.
You can log in to the management port of the HP MSR shown in the
figure below:

3. Enter the oap connect command in system view of the MSR.
You are redirected to the SBM. The system prompts "Connected to
OAP!" appears.
4. Enter iafter the prompts SAC>.
You can view the initial management IP address, mask, and gateway
assigned by the DHCP server.
If the HP MSR SBM has received a self-assigned IP address beginning
with 169.254, check the network configuration to make the DHCP
server assigns a valid IP address.
Setting the initial management IP address from the HP MSR SBM CLI
To set the initial management IP address:
1. Enter the command i 13 152.67.95.26 255.255.0.0 152.67.0.254 as
shown in the figure below.

2. Enter i.
The new settings are displayed: the IP address is 152.67.95.26, the
subnet is 255.255.0.0, and the gateway is 152.67.0.254.
Configuring the HP MSR SBM
CAUTION:
Before installing the HP MSR SBM,
•Verify that the domain controller, DNS server, and Lync server are
successfully installed in the headquarters' data center network. During
the installation of the HP MSR SBM, these servers cooperate with the HP
MSR SBM to complete the configuration interaction, such as adding the
HP MSR SBM to the domain and deliverin

to the branches, making the installation of the HP MSR SBM successful.
•Contact the data center domain administrator to get the domain accoun

and password of the RTCUniversalSBATechnicians group member.
After obtaining the initial domain name or valid management IP address
of the HP MSR SBM, you can complete the initial configurations of the HP
MSR SBM system using the Setup Wizard.

NOTE:
•Follow the exact sequence of the procedures in the Setup Wizard. Once
you complete a step, you cannot return to that step.The process is a
forward-only process.
•During the configuration, if you need to reboot the HP MSR SBM system,
continue your last configuration after re-login.
Initial access to the HP MSR SBM
1. Launch the Web browser Windows IE 8.0, IE 9.0, or Mozilla Firefox.
The following uses an IE browser as an example.
2. For the URL, enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or IP
address of the HP MSR SBM.
A warning is displayed that there is a problem with the site's certificate.
3. Originally, the HP MSR SBM uses a self-signed certificate, so your
browser does not trust it. Click Continue to this website (not
recommended).
4. You may be prompted to enter a username and password, as shown
in Figure 7.

For now, you must log in to the HP MSR SBM as a local administrator.
The initial user name and password is SBMAdmin and P@ssw0rd
respectively.
Resetting the local administrator's password
After logging in to the HP MSR SBM for the first time, you need to reset the
local administrator's password, as shown in Figure 8.
To reset the password:
1. Enter user name, old password, new password, and confirm password.
The new password is a string containing up to 63 characters and must
match standard Windows password complexity requirements, which
are that the password includes at least three of the following:
{A lowercase letter
{An uppercase letter
{A number
{A special character
2. Click Apply.
If the operation fails, the system prompts you for the failure and you need
to reset the password.

If you do not want to reset the password, leave the fields blank and click
Skip.

Displaying the welcome page
After resetting the password, you access the installation process page,
which introduces the whole installation process in general, as shown
in Figure 9.
Click Next to access the next page.

Configuring IP settings
To make the HP MSR SBM to successfully contact the data center to which
the Lync server belongs, you need to configure IP settings shown in Figure
10.
This page presents the current system configuration.
•If you do not have to modify the current system configuration, click Next.
