to the repair of these PCs. For information on the installation of accessories,

If the user presses the power button on the control panel, HP Off (under
Windows 95) first checks if there are any unsaved files. If there are, it offers
three choices: yes (to saving the unsaved changes, followed by shutdown),
no (to saving the unsaved changes, but shutdown anyway), and cancel (to
return to normal operation).

With memory banks A, B and C filled,
no ISA board fits in the lowermost
slot (unless it is less than 9 cm wide,
3.6 inches).

Key Points • DRAM is shared between Video RAM and System RAM.
• There is no dedicated video RAM on the system board.
• A portion of the main memory is used as frame buffer (video memory). It
is non-trivial to determine exactly into which physical memory chips the
BIOS will place the video memory (that is, where it will be position in the
memory map).
• The size of the video memory is configured by software only. There
is no specific video memory upgrade to add.
• Increasing the amount of video memory causes the amount of main
memory available for system use to be reduced:
• The default setting is for 1 MB video memory. This can be increased to
2MB.
• If an external video board is present, with its own video memory, the full
amount of main memory is allocated for use as system memory.

The HP Vectra VE 5/xxx series 3 PC does not have dedicated video
memory. It has a Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) and uses a Shared
Frame Buffer (SFB). The SiS 6205 video controller uses a reserved portion
of the main memory.
