customer-congured pulsed-RF systems; the primary dierence b eing the absence of the
system cabinet in some customer-congured systems.
The HP 85108 system, shown in Figure 1-1, is a factory integrated pused-RF system which
includes the following components.
HP 8510C option 008 network analyzer.

ork Analyzer System
System Overview
The pused-RF network analyzer system provides you with the ability to measure and display
the relativemagnitude and phase shift of the component under test as a function of time with
an equivalent bandwidth of 1.5 Mhz. this allows the evaluation of the dynamic pulsed-RF
characteristics for pulse widths down to 1
second.
You can congure a pulsed-RF system using your existing HP 8510 network analyzer system
by adding pulsed-RF capability (option 008) to your network analyzer. Refer to the paragraph
titled Upgrade Paths in this chapter for more information.
System and Documentation Overview 1-3

Systems Covered by This Manual
A serial number label is attached to each HP 85108 system cabinet. This lab el is lo cated on
the front of the cabinet in the lower left corner, and has the serial number of your system
prin
ted on it.
Figure 1-2 shows a typical serial number lab el. Ther serial number has two parts. The rst
four digits followed by a letter comprise the serial numb er prex. The last ve digits form the
sequen
tial sux that is unique to each instrument (or system). The contents of this manual
apply directly to systems having the same serial number prex, or higher, as listed on the
Title Page of this manual under the heading Serial Numbers.

HP 85108 Pulsed-RF System Options
The follo
wing options are available with the HP 85108 system.
Option 001
This test set option add IF switching capability to allow a total of four test sets to be
connected to the HP 8510 at the same time. The test set in use is selectrd from the HP 8510
fron
tpanel. The 20 Mhz IF signal is transmitted from the selected test set through the option
001 test set(s) to the network analyzer. IF switching is p erformed automatically by the option
001 test set(s), without reconnections. For more information refer to Controlling Multiple Test
Sets in the Operation chapter of this manual.
Option 010
This option adds time domain capabilit
y to the HP 8510 net
work analyzer.
1-4 System and Documentation Overview

Warranty
The HP 85108 system carries a one year on-site warranty.
Pulse upgrades (either the HP 85111A or 85111B) include a 90 day on-site warranty from
the date of installation. This warrantycovers the mo died HP 85102 and is valid only if the
upgrad package is installed by an HP Customer Engineer. Installation of the upgrade kits
does not change an existing service contract in anyway.
Upgrade Paths

System Installation
Introduction
This chapter contains the following information.
Site preparation.
System conguration.
System turn on.
The pulsed-RF network analyzer system is rack-mounted, assembled, and has the cabling
attached when it arrives from the factory.
During the installation, the HP customer engineer (CE) will do the following:
Uncrate the system cabinet.
Complete the receiving checklist.
T
urn on the system and v
erify that the HP-IB addresses of each instrument are set prop erly.
Run aperformance v
erication of the system, whic
hincludes ameasurement calibration.
System Arrival
The system will arrive with all rack comp onents and instruments assembled and cabled in the
system cabinet.
Keep the shipping containers in one area to help verify the receipt of all components ordered.
Inspect all shipping containers. Keep the carton and packaging material until the entire
shipment has been veried for completeness, and the system has b een checked mechanically
and electrically. Check all equipment received against the receiving checklist on the following
page.
If the shipmen
t is damaged or incomplete, notify the nearest Hewlett-P
ackard oce. If the
shipping con
tainer is damaged or the packaging material shows signs of stress, notify the
carrier as well as the HP oce. Keep the shipping materials for the carrier's insp ection. The
Hewlett-Packard oce will arrange for repair or replacement of damaged equipment without
waiting for a claim settlement from the carrier.

Receiving Checklist
When the en
tire shipment has arrived, contact the nearest HP oce to arrange for installation
of your system (if installation is available in your area). The HP customer engineer will
perform the installation, beginning with the following receiving checklist.
Refer to your system while you review this checklist.
