Introduction
This document defines the supported HP NetServer LH3 configurations with HP Rack Storage/12s and /8s
and Microsoft Cluster Server. These configurations minimize single points of failure (SPOF), provide
maximum availability, and have been certified by Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft. This guide is
prescriptive; it describes the configurations supported by HP. Any deviance to these configurations can
result in an inoperative cluster or an operating cluster with degraded performance, hidden SPOFs, etc., and
therefore will not be supported by HP.

Cluster
Type of SPUs HP NetServer LH 3
Each node must be the same model SPU, but may have different size main
memory, cache, and CPU clock speeds.
Installation Pedestal or racked

Shared Storage HP Rack Storage/12 or Rack Storage/8 with HP NetRAID-3Si controller and
HP disks. See Shared Storage below.
LANs:
Client LAN Any NIC that is HP and Microsoft approved. See Client LAN below.

Power source Direct from power mains, power conditioner or uninterruptible power supply

Cabinet
RAID arrays A RAID array (logical disk) must be composed of all the same disk model
(i.e., part number and suffix). Different size or speed disks are not
allowed in the same RAID array. Any combination of disk models is
allowed on a SCSI channel and in a cluster.

LANs
Intra-cluster (Heartbeat) LAN Client LAN

Shared Storage Cabling
This part of the guide defines the allowable cabling configurations for clusters using the HP NetServer
LH 3 and HP Rack Storage/12s and /8s. Only these cabling configurations and cables are supported.

Version History
29 March 2000 Added support for NetRAID-1Si as a local storage controller.
18 January 2000 Added 500, 550, and 600 MHz SPUs for use with Rack Storage/12 D5989B
(80 MB/Sec SCSI bus).
9 September 1999 Added 36.4 GB drive for shared storage and for added RS/12 D5989B and
1 D6025B (80 MB/Sec SCSI bus) for 400-450 MHz.
26 July 1999 Corrected inconsistency in document. Under Shared Storage changed "P3"
to "P7-P8" for the SPU I/O slot.
14 July 1999 Revised the No. of Power Supplies specification from "2 - 3" to "2 required,
3 for redundancy." Revised the ac power cabling diagram to depict
applying HP NetServer power from separate power circuits.
25 May 1999 Added two 18.2 GB disk drives for use with the Rack Storage/12. These
are the D7031A HH 10K rpm disk drive and the D7174A low profile 7200
rpm drive.
