Introduction to HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage
HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage systems are network-attached storage (NAS) appliances and are purpose-built for storing
file and application data. Tailored for small to midsize organizations, branch oices, and work group environments, HPE
StoreEasy 1000 Storage delivers rich file data services and simplified management through a foundation of Microsoft
Windows Storage Server and Hewlett Packard Enterprise technologies. To help organizations significantly reduce the time
and the complexity of installation, each HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage is shipped with preintegrated hardware and
preloaded software.

Setup and install
1. Unpack HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage
Before you begin, ensure that you have the following items in the shipping box:
•Hardware Components
◦HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage
◦Power cords
◦Rail kit for installing the system in a rack
◦Any other hardware options purchased
•Documentation and Media
◦HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage Read This First document
◦HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage Quick Start Guide
◦Windows Storage Server 2016 (WSS2016) Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label (aixed to the product)
◦An envelope containing HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Advanced Security Edition license key and document
◦HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage Recovery DVD (if purchased)

IMPORTANT: For support purposes, you must know how to locate or have a copy of the HPE StoreEasy 1000
Storage serial number, the Product ID key from WSS2016 COA, and the iLO Advanced Security license key.
To verify the HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage model and warranty information, HPE personnel uses the serial number of the
system located in the following places:

The Windows Storage Server COA label Product ID key is required when:
• You have replaced the motherboard of HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage product.
• You have upgraded the original version of the Windows Storage Server operating system to a "new" release, and the
new COA product ID key is required to activate the operating system.
• The system fails to activate properly due to a corruption in the key.
The iLO Advanced Security license key is required when:
• The motherboard of HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage product is replaced.
• The iLO license key must be reinstalled.

Procedure
1. Installing the rail kits and mounting the system in a rack for HPE StoreEasy 1460 Storage, HPE StoreEasy 1660
Storage, HPE StoreEasy 1660 Expanded Storage, and HPE StoreEasy 1860 Storage
2. Installing the rail kits and mounting the system in a rack for HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage
Installing the rail kits and mounting the system in a rack for HPE StoreEasy 1460
Storage, HPE StoreEasy 1660 Storage, HPE StoreEasy 1660 Expanded Storage, and HPE
StoreEasy 1860 Storage
You can install the rail kit and mount the following systems:
• HPE StoreEasy 1460 Storage
• HPE StoreEasy 1660 Storage
• HPE StoreEasy 1660 Expanded Storage
• HPE StoreEasy 1860 Storage
Prerequisites
CAUTION: Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) can damage the electronic components. Ensure that you are properly
grounded (earthed) before beginning any installation procedure.
This installation must be performed by qualified individuals having knowledge of the procedures, precautions, and
equipment hazards that contains hazardous electrical circuits.
WARNING:
• The rail kits, when installed, form only a shelf for the HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage to rest on. The HPE
StoreEasy 1000 Storage is not attached to the rail by any other means. Use extreme caution when pulling the
HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage out from the rack. The storage system can slip and fall, which may cause injury to
the operator or damage to HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage. HPE is not responsible for any damage or injury
caused by mishandling of HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage.
• Ensure that the rack is leveled and stable before working on the rack. The leveling jacks (feet) must extend to
the floor and the full weight of the rack must rest firmly on the floor.
• Ensure that the rack has anti-tip measures such as, floor-bolting, anti-tip feet, ballast, or a combination of the
measures, as specified by the rack manufacturer and applicable codes in place.
• Ensure that suicient personnel are available to support one or more products during the installation process.
HPE recommends you to use an appropriate lifting device as an installation aid.
• Ensure that the rack is loaded from bottom to top, with the heaviest appliances at the bottom to make the rack
steady.
• Avoid overloading the branch circuit that provides power to the rack. The total rack load must not exceed 80
percent of the branch circuit rating.

Procedure
1. Install the rail kits.
For detailed instructions on installing the HPE rack rails into square and round hole racks for HPE 2U Storage system,
see the documentation shipped with the rail kit, for example HPE Rack Rail Kit installation instructions.
2. Slide the HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage into the position on the rails.

3. To secure the HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage to the rails, the Configure-to-Order (CTO) bracket at the rear ends of the
rails must overlap the chassis tab.

4. Secure the HPE StoreEasy 1000 Storage to the rack rails using thumbscrews on the front bezel.

5. Using the holes provided in the rear rack rails, install the tie wraps and route external cables as required

6. Connect all power cords to the facility power source.
Installing the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage
Procedure
1. Select the system orientation:

•Tower orientation
•Rack orientation
Setting up the system in tower mode
Procedure
1. Turn the system to the upright position.
2. Place the system on a flat stable surface.
3. Connect peripheral devices to the system.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to the equipment:
• Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The grounding plug is an important safety feature.
• Plug the power cord into a grounded (earthed) electrical outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
• Unplug the power cord from the power supply to disconnect power to the equipment.
• Do not route the power cord where it can be walked on or pinched by items placed against it. Pay particular
attention to the plug, electrical outlet, and the point where the cord extends from the system.
4. Connect the power cord to the rear of the system.
5. Connect the power cord to the AC power source.
Installing the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage in rack mode
Use the tower-to-rack conversion kit to switch the tower HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage to rack mode operation. After the
kit is installed, complete in-rack serviceability for all HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage components that are supported.
Kit contents
• Left and right rack rail assemblies
• Tray
Procedure
1. Prepare the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage for rack installation
2. Install the rack rails and tray
3. Install the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage into the rack
Prepare the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage for rack installation
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have a T-15 Torx screwdriver available.

Procedure
1. Power down the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage.
2. Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage.
3. Disconnect all peripheral cables from the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage.
4. Place the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage on the side with the access panel facing up.
Install the rack rails and tray
These rack rails can be installed in both round- or square-hole racks.
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have the following items available:
• Tray
• T-15 Torx screwdriver
Procedure
1. Follow the steps to disassemble the rail assemblies:
a. Pull out the inner rail until it is fully extended .
b. Slide and hold the white release tab in the direction shown, and then remove the inner sliding rail from the outer
mounting rail.

c. Repeat steps a–b on the other rail assembly.
2. Install the sliding rails on the tray:
a. Align the notches on the rail with the pins on the side.
b. Slide the rail towards the rear of the tray to lock it into place.

c. Repeat steps a–b on the other inner rail.
3. Locate the orientation markers on the mounting rails:
• The front end of the rails is marked FRONT.
• The rear end of the rails is marked with Lfor left and R for right.

4. Fasten the mounting rails to the rack columns:
a. Retract and hold the rear retention bracket.
b. Insert the pegs on the mounting flange into the rack holes.
c. Release the rear retention bracket.

d. Retract and hold the front retention bracket.
e. Insert the pegs on the mounting flange into the rack holes.
f. Release the front retention bracket.

g. Repeat steps a-f to fasten the other mounting rail.
h. Make sure that both rails are mounted at the same vertical position on both sides of the rack.
5. Slide the tray into the rack.
The rails will click and lock into place when the tray is properly engaged.
Install the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage into the rack
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have a T-15 Torx screwdriver available.
Procedure
1. Grasp the tray notch and extend the tray out of the rack.

2. Place the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage at the center of the server tray.
Align the front panel of the HPE StoreEasy 1560 Storage with the edge of the tray.
3. Press and hold the blue rail-release tabs, and then slide the tray back into the rack.

4. Tighten the tray thumbscrews.
5. Connect all peripheral cables and power cords to the rear panel.
6. Secure the power cord with the strain relief strap. Roll the extra length of the strap around the power input module
handle.

7. Connect each power cord to the power source.
The installation is complete.
Setting up the system in rack mode
Procedure
1. Install the system into the rack.
For more information, see the installation instructions that ship with the Tower to Rack Conversion Kit.
2. Connect peripheral devices to the system.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to the equipment:
• Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The grounding plug is an important safety feature.
• Plug the power cord into a grounded (earthed) electrical outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
• Unplug the power cord from the power supply to disconnect power to the equipment.
• Do not route the power cord where it can be walked on or pinched by items placed against it. Pay particular
attention to the plug, electrical outlet, and the point where the cord extends from the system.
3. Connect the power cord to the rear of the system.
4. Connect the power cord to the AC power source.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or damage to the equipment, do not plug telephone or
telecommunications connectors into RJ-45 connectors.
