Cable the array.
Important!
For failover to operate correctly, the host must have connectivity to each controller.
• For iSCSI, cable the same port on each controller into the SAME network switch and subnet.
iSCSI initiators have a network path to both controllers. Connect one member of each interface pair to the same switch. If your
switches have multiple subnets congured, make sure that each interface pair is connected to switch ports on the same subnet.
• For FC, cable both controllers to Fibre Channel switches.
See the “Install the Nimble Array” chapter in the Nimble Storage Installation Guide.
Note:
If Ethernet ports are combined
with Fibre Channel ports, the
port naming (eth or fc) changes
depending on their location.
https://infosight.nimblestorage.com
Separate the inner rails from the rail assemblies.
a. Press the catch at the front end of the middle rail.
b. Slide the inner rail out of the rail assembly.
c. Repeat steps a and b on the other side.
Install the inner rails onto the array.
a. Align the holes in the inner rails with the hooks on the sides of
the chassis.
b. Slide the rails toward the front of the chassis to seat the hooks.
c. Install the set screws to secure the inner rails in position.
d. Repeat steps a, b and c on the other side.
Install the rail assemblies into the rack.
Important!
If the rack has round holes, install the provided square-hole adapter
as shown at right.
.
Note that cabinet rack holes are not evenly spaced. To ensure that
the thumbscrews align correctly, align the rack at the border of a unit.
The middle rails attach to the front posts. The outer rails attach to the
back posts.
a. Align the upper hook of the rail at the position you want.
b. Press the rail into the post and slide it down to lock it in position.
c. Repeat steps a and b on the other side. (See diagram 4c.)

a. Insert the chassis into the rack, back side rst.
b. Gently slide the chassis into position.
When you hear a click, the inner rails have locked into the rail
assembly.
8
Important!
If you plan to add any Nimble ES1-Series expansion shelves, fully congure the array before you connect any shelves to it.
(Rail assemblies correctly installed in a rack.)

Secure the chassis to the rack.
The chassis has two handles. Each handle has a screw that secures
the chassis so it does not slide out of the rack.
Tighten the screw in each handle.

Type the Network Addresses settings and click Next.
For Management and Discovery (Management only for Fibre Channel):
• Management IP address and subnet mask
• For iSCSI: Discovery IP address and subnet mask
•For FC: Data IP address and subnet mask (for group and replication trafc)
• Default gateway IP address
Note: If you chose two dedicated networks as your network topology, the GUI
requires you to specify different subnets for management and data.
For Data:
•Port type – Not congured, Data only, or Management + Data
• Data IP address and subnet mask
• Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) – Standard, Jumbo, or Other
•Frame size in bytes – User specied value
Ensure that your network switches support the selected MTU or frame size. The
data port IP addresses are assigned to interface pairs, such as eth5 on controller
A and eth5 on controller B. If one controller fails, the corresponding port on the
remaining controller still has data access. At least one interface pair must be
congured.
However, a minimum of two is recommended.
Congure the array with the GUI.
See the Nimble Storage Administration Guide.

Type the support information and click Finish.
•From Address ‒ Identies the array as the sender of email notication messages.
•To Address ‒ Recipients of the email notication messages.
•SMTP Server ‒ Hostname of the SMTP (mail) server.
•Send AutoSupport data ‒ The array automatically periodically sends a health and
performance report to Nimble Storage Support. Strongly recommended.
•HTTP Proxy Server ‒ If the network uses an HTTP proxy server for secure Internet
connections, type the appropriate information.
Where to go next:
See the Nimble Storage Administration Guide or the online help to learn more about
managing the array.
For the latest release notes, go to HPE Nimble InfoSight: https://infosight.hpe.com/.
6
Specify the time zone, type the NTP (time) server details, and click
Next.
• Select the time zone from the drop-down menu.
• Type the hostname or IP address of the NTP server.
Type the domain and DNS information and click Next.
•Domain name ‒ Enables the network to resolve IP addresses.
•DNS servers ‒ One per line, up to ve.

5
Set up the array.
a. In the Windows Start menu, click Nimble Storage > Nimble Setup Manager.
b. Open the browser and select the array from the Nimble Setup Manager list.
Note: If the array is not visible in Nimble Setup Manager, verify that the array is on
the same subnet as the Windows host.
c. In the Information dialog box, click OK.
Note: Clicking OK closes the Nimble Setup Manager, and continues the setup on
the array through your web browser.
d. You may see a warning similar to “There is a problem with this website’s security
certicate.” It is safe to ignore this warning and click Continue.

If you chose to join an existing group, your browser automatically redirects to the
login screen of the group leader array.
g. Provide or change initial management settings and click Finish. (Optional. Type
the Group password and click Log In. The Add Array to Group dialog box opens.)
h. In the Successfully Initialized dialog box, click Continue. Your browser
automatically redirects to the Management IP address of the array.
Note: If the array does not initialize, check the cabling to the network switch and
