Overview
The Evans & Sutherland AccelGALAXY is a high-end OpenGL
graphics board for professional users who require workstation-class
performance, with high-end functionality such as overlays and
texture mapping.
The AccelGALAXY graphics subsystem occupies the AGP accessory
slot in your PC Workstation. It brings you:
•Evans & Sutherland REALimage 2100 rendering engine
•15 MB 3DRAM frame and local buffer memory
•Hardware texture accelerator with 16 MB CDRAM of dedicated
texture memory
•Built-in VGA support
•Full OpenGL 1.1 hardware features support.

The AccelGALAXY Driver
A driver for the AccelGALAXY board is preloaded on your PC
Workstation.
HP frequently updates graphics board drivers to incorporate feature
and performance enhancements, or to fix problems found when
running specific applications.
Should you have any problem with your AccelGALAXY board, first
check that you have the latest driver version installed on your PC
Workstation. The latest driver version is provided on HP’s Web site.
For more information refer to the next section, “Updating the
AccelGALAXY Driver”.
To check the driver version currently installed on your PC
Workstation, refer to The AccelPanel - Information Page, on page
13.

Updating the AccelGALAXY Driver
You can download the latest version of the AccelGALAXY driver
from HP’s Web site at:
http://www.hp.com/go/kayaksupport
After accessing the HP Kayak Support Web site, select your HP
Kayak PC Workstation model, and then go to the AccelGALAXY
driver section.
If the list contains a driver for your application, download that
driver. If a driver for your application is not listed, select the
“DEFAULT version”.
NOTE A README file is supplied with each driver. Please read it carefully
as it provides instructions to install the driver. Moreover, the
information contained in the README file supersedes any
information contained in this manual.
To update the driver, follow these instructions.
1Download the driver from HP’s Web site to a temporary folder on
your hard disk. (For example, C:\TEMP\AccelGALAXY\)
2Run the executable file to decompress the contained files. You
can do this by double-clicking the file.
3Follow the instructions provided in the README file that comes
with the driver.

Configuring the AccelGALAXY Driver
You can configure the AccelGALAXY driver using the Display
Properties dialog box.
To display the Display Properties dialog box, click Start, point
to Settings, and then click Control Panel. In Control Panel
double-click Display.
The Settings Panel
Use the Settings panel to change the screen resolution, number of
colors, and refresh rate. Click List All Modes to view all
combinations of colors, desktop area, and refresh frequency
supported by the AccelGALAXY graphics board. If you select a
mode, click Test to see if your choice is compatible with your
monitor.
The AccelGALAXY graphics board supports the following
resolutions and refresh rates:

The AccelPanel
When the AccelGALAXY driver is installed, the Display
Properties dialog box contains the AccelPanel property sheet.
The AccelPanel contains three pages:

This page provides the following system and setup information
about the AccelGALAXY graphics board and the drivers:

Buttons
Factory Settings Resets all the choices in the AccelPanel to the default factory settings.
Configure Opens the AccelPanel configuration pages and displays them on the screen.

The AccelPanel - Applications Page
This page displays the list of software applications for which the
AccelGALAXY has predefined optimized settings.
Select the application you are using to automatically configure the
driver for optimal performance for this application. If your
application is not shown, choose No Application Selected.
NOTE No Application Selected will be automatically selected in the
AccelPanel - Applications page if you make any change in the
AccelPanel - System Settings page.

The AccelPanel - System Settings Page
This page allows you to change certain system settings.
In most cases, you do not need to change any of the options in the
AccelPanel - System Settings page. You just need to select the
application you are using.

NOTE No Application Selected will be automatically selected in the
AccelPanel - Applications page if you make any change in the
AccelPanel - System Settings page.
The default setting in the Frame-to-Frame Image Quality group box
is Lower Frame Rate Performance. This provides optimal visual
comfort. For maximum graphics performance, select the Higher
Frame Rate Performance setting.

Troubleshooting
This section describes how to troubleshoot problems that may arise
with your graphics subsystem. It also provides some tips on how to
improve graphics performance.
Troubleshooting Video Problems
At boot time, the
screen is blank and
there are no error
messages.
Solution Explanation
Check that the computer and monitor are turned
on. (The power light should be illuminated.)
Useful routine checks, especially if you have just
moved the computer or the monitor.
Check the monitor’s contrast and brightness
settings.
Make sure that all cables and power cords are
plugged in.
Make sure the power outlet is working.
If possible, try another monitor and set of cables.
Check the LCD screen of your PC Workstation. If
the LCD screen reports ‘Error - No Video’, check
that the AccelGALAXY board is correctly inserted
into the AGP slot.
If the LCD screen reports any other error
message, refer to the User’s Guide that came
with your PC Workstation.
At boot time, the monitor’s signal is provided by
the built-in VGA subsystem of your
AccelGALAXY. MaxiLife can check if the VGA
subsystem is running properly. If there is a
problem it reports ‘Error - No Video’.

The computer boots

Solution Explanation
Check that your monitor supports the selected
AccelGALAXY resolution and refresh rate. If the monitor
does not support the selected resolution, boot in VGA
and then change your settings.
This problem may occur if you have just
changed your monitor.
The AccelGALAXY driver may be corrupted or not
properly installed. Reboot in VGA mode and reinstall
the driver. You can download the latest driver version
from HP’s Web site:
http://www.hp.com/go/kayaksupport
If the driver files are corrupted, the PC
Workstation may boot in VGA mode but
may be unable to switch to high-resolution
mode.
Remove the AccelGALAXY graphics board, and then re-
insert it. Ensure that the board is properly inserted in
the AGP slot.
The graphics board may not be seated
correctly. This causes the screen to go
blank at this point.
Solution Explanation
The driver may not be optimized for the application
used. Open Display Properties, select AccelPanel, click
the Configure button, click the Applications tab, and
select the appropriate application.
