Important RF Notice
This device was tested for compliance with the applicable FCC and Industry Canada
specific absorption rate (SAR) limits for radio frequency (RF) exposure during typical
body-worn operations. To ensure that RF exposure levels remain at or below the tested
levels, use a belt-clip, holster, or similar accessory that maintains a minimum separation
distance of 1.0 cm between your body and the device, with either the front or back of the
device facing towards your body. Such accessories should not contain any metallic
components. Body-worn accessories that do not meet these specifications may not ensure
compliance with applicable SAR limits and their use should be avoided.

Files and other data that have been deleted, cleared, removed, or erased from your device
may still be recoverable by third-party data recovery software. Even a factory reset may not

Now on Tap
Now on Tap intuitively searches and delivers related information right in the app. This means that
you'll never have to leave the conversation or the website you're browsing to search for information.
Just press and hold and Now on Tap displays related information, apps, and actions. See Now on
Tap on page 137.
Android Pay
Conveniently use HTC One A9 to pay for goods and services at thousands of establishments that
support Android Pay™. Just add your payment cards to the Android Pay app and start paying using
your phone. See Android Pay on page 140.
Manage phone memory
Use Memory in Settings to monitor the average memory use and performance of HTC One A9. You
can also use this setting to check which apps use the most memory.
Major change to how you use storage cards
If you have an existing storage card with media and other files, use it as removable storage so you
can insert the card and access your files on any Android phone.
If you have a brand new storage card, you can use the card to expand the internal storage. See
Should I use the storage card as removable or internal storage? on page 105 and Setting up your
storage card as internal storage on page 105.
Network settings reset
Quickly reset all network settings when HTC One A9 has a hard time connecting to the mobile data
or Wi-Fi®network or Bluetooth®device. See Resetting network settings on page 116.
Google settings
Easily manage settings for Google®apps and features on HTC One A9. Tap Google in Settings and
change your preferences.

Smarter app linking
Android 6.0 Marshmallow automatically opens the correct app for links that you tap in a text or
email message or website. With smarter app linking, there's no more guessing which app can handle
the links you tap.
Imaging
Made to help you capture your memories to share with family and friends.
RAW enhancement
With RAW image enhancement, you can take your photos to a whole new level. After snapping a
shot in Pro mode, the camera saves a RAW file in DNG format. The RAW file provides more image
information for post processing in Photo Editor or a graphics program on your computer. See
Taking a RAW photo on page 76.
Hyperlapse
Compress a long video into a smooth, entertaining video. Hyperlapse lets you speed up the action up
to 12 times, and select sections of the video to change its speed. See Recording a Hyperlapse video on
page 75.
Anti-shake lens
Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) reduces blur from hand movements while you shoot. You'll get
sharper, brighter photos with more clarity, even in low light.
Front camera features
Enjoy selfie-friendly features in the Camera app.

You need a 4G/LTE™plan to use your operator's 4G/LTE network for voice calls and data
services. Check with your operator for details.
§If you want to use a case or screen protector, don’t cover and block the proximity sensor.
Purchase a case or screen protector designed for HTC One A9.
§Avoid connecting third-party headsets or accessories with metallic charms that dangle near the
headset jack. Using these may affect signal reception.

HTC One A9 can use NFC to only make secure payments at contactless payment terminals.
To turn NFC on and off:
1. Go to Settings, and then under Wireless & networks, tap More.
2. Tap the NFC On/Off switch to turn it on and off.
Slots with card trays
There are trays inside the nano SIM and microSD slots that are used for inserting your cards.
When inserting the eject tool into the tray eject holes to remove the card trays, make sure not to
press on the trays to avoid damaging the eject mechanism inside the slots.
Also, if you want to use a protective case, make sure to buy a case that's designed for HTC One A9
and that doesn't block the trays.

nano SIM card
HTC One A9 uses a nano SIM card.
Use a standard nano SIM card only. Inserting a modified card that is thicker than the standard
nano SIM card may cause the card to not fit properly or damage the card slot.
Inserting a nano SIM card
1. Hold the phone face up.
2. Insert the tip of the tray eject tool that came with your phone—or a small bent paperclip—
into the nano SIM tray eject hole.
3. Push the tip all the way into the hole until the tray ejects, and then pull the tray out.
4. Place the nano SIM card into the tray, with the gold contacts facing up and cut-off corner
facing out.
5. Insert the card tray back into the slot.

Removing a nano SIM card
Make sure to switch off HTC One A9 before removing the card.
1. Hold the phone face up.
2. Insert the tip of the tray eject tool that came with your phone—or a small bent paperclip—
into the nano SIM tray eject hole.
3. Push the tip all the way into the hole until the card tray ejects.
4. Pull the card tray out, and remove the nano SIM card.
5. Make sure that you insert the empty card tray back into the slot.
Storage card
Use a storage card to store your photos, videos, and music. When you need to free up phone storage
space, you can also move certain apps to the storage card, if the apps support this feature.
The storage card is optional and sold separately.
Inserting the microSD card
1. Hold the phone face up.
2. Insert the tip of the tray eject tool that came with your phone—or a small bent paperclip—
into the microSD tray eject hole.
3. Push the tip all the way into the hole until the microSD card tray ejects.

4. Pull the microSD card tray out, and place the microSD card—contacts facing up—into the
tray.
5. Insert the microSD card tray back into the slot.
If it's the first time you insert a microSD card, you'll be prompted to set it up.
Removing the microSD card
Make sure to unmount your microSD card before removing it. See Unmounting the storage card
on page 108.
1. Hold the phone face up.
2. Insert the tip of the tray eject tool that came with your phone—or a small bent paperclip—
into the microSD tray eject hole.
3. Push the tip all the way into the hole until the microSD card tray ejects.
4. Pull the microSD card tray out, and remove the microSD card.
After removing the microSD card, make sure that you insert the empty microSD card tray back into
the slot.

Charging the battery
Before you turn on and start using HTC One A9, it is recommended that you charge the battery.
§If the battery has been discharged for several days, you may need to charge HTC One A9 for
several minutes before powering it on.
§Use only the adapter and the USB cable that came with HTC One A9 to charge the battery. When
the battery power is too low, make sure to use the power adapter to charge, not the USB cable
connection with your computer.
1. Insert the small end of the USB cable into the USB connector.
2. Insert the other end of the USB cable into the power adapter.
3. Plug in the power adapter to an electrical outlet to start charging the battery.
§As a safety precaution, the battery may stop charging to avoid overheating.
§Avoid charging the battery in hot environments.
§When you're using the web browser and charging the battery, HTC One A9 may become
warmer. This is normal.
§To conserve energy, unplug the power adapter from the electrical outlet after you finish
charging.

Press the POWER button until HTC One A9 vibrates.
When you turn on HTC One A9 for the first time, you’ll need to set it up.

1. If the display is off, press the POWER button to turn it back on.
2. Press and hold the POWER button for a few seconds.
3. Tap Power off on the options menu.
