FCC Notice
This controller generates radio frequency energy and may cause interference to radio
and television reception. It has been type tested and found to comply with the limits
for a Class B computing device in accordance with the specifications in Subpart J of
Part 15 of FCC Rules, which are designed to provide reasonable protection against

Introduction......................................................
Thank you for purchasing Hunter Industries Incorporated PSC-Z
Controller. To help you become accustomed to the PSC-Z's
operation, we have divided this manual into five easy to
understand sections:
Section One lists the key OPERATING FEATURES of the PSC-Z.
See page 4.
Section Two describes the PSC-Z DISPLAY and gives you a quick
definition of each button's operation. See page 5.
Section Three is the QUICK START section, outlining the four
basic steps in programming your PSC-Z. Use this section to
initially set up your PSC-Z for automatic watering. See page 6.
Section Four gives detailed definitions of each button, and
describes details of PROGRAMMING your PSC-Z controller.
See page 8.
Section Five is a guide to TROUBLESHOOTING the PSC-Z
controller. See page 13.

Operating Features ...........................................
✔Independently assign each station’s cycle lengths, number of
cycles per day, and days between watering.
✔Cycle each station to water up to 28 times per day (14 times per
program).
✔No fuse needed: electronic short circuit detection warns of a
short, then continues to next station.
✔No battery needed: programs stored for up to 10 continuous
hours. With optional battery, programs saved for up to 7 months.
✔Adjust delay time between watering cycles, from 30 min. to
12 hrs., in one-hour steps.
✔With one touch, pause automatic watering, then restart.
✔Press the Rain button to stop automatic watering indefinitely.
✔Set days on which no watering will occur.
✔Manually run an entire program or a single station at any time.
✔At the touch of a button, make seasonal adjustments for wet or
dry spells.
✔Set up two completely different programs, A and B, to meet
diverse watering needs (drip and spray, for example). It's like
having two controllers.
✔Lock cover to resist tampering.

•The PSC-Z waits at least 30 min. between cycles to allow water to soak
into the soil. To change the automatic cycle delay time for either program,
hold down START TIMES for 4 secs.
•Set all cycle times to zero on unused stations.
•You can enter new station settings at any time, even while water is running.
•The PSC-Z has a supplied schedule that it will run if you do not set one
up, or if power is lost, there is no battery, and the internal power storage
capacity is exhausted (after 10 hours without power or backup battery).

The Start Time is the time the
entire watering cycle begins.
The PSC-Z calculates the start
time for each cycle in the
program based on the start time you enter.
•The controller is initially set for a cycle delay time of at least 30
minutes between each cycle.
•You can increase the cycle
delay time for either program
in 1-hour steps, up to 12
hours, by holding down
START TIMES for 4 seconds, then entering a new time.
•Programs A and B have different start times.
•Programs A and B can have different cycle delay times.
•Setting the start time to 0:FF disables an entire program.

•Any irrigation in progress will complete, even if it overlaps into a

will be postponed until the next available day. (It will not be lost).
EXAMPLE: Water rationing in your area dictates that you can
water Monday, Wednesday and Friday only. Set Days Apart to 1;
make Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday No Water Days.
