as owner of a product manufactured by us, we have produced this manual, comprising
the most important instructions for its operation and maintenance.
It is intended to help you become acquainted with the proper/designated use of the
product and use it properly. You should keep it in the vicinity of the product so it is
always at your fingertips.
Sometimes the information contained in this documentation cannot always keep up
with changes made to the product as we attach considerable importance to keeping
our products cutting-edge. Consequently, there might be deviations in technical details,
illustrations and dimensions.
In these cases we go to every effort to keep your documentation current by sending
you updates.
But we need your help. Please make sure that you incorporate the updates in your

1 General Safety Precautions
These operating instructions contain the key instructions for properly and safely operating the
MRF.
1.1 Obligations and Liability
• The basic prerequisite for the safe and proper handling and operation of the MRF is
knowledge of the safety instructions and warnings.
• These operating instructions in general, and the safety precautions in particular, are
to be adhered by all those who work with the product.
• Adherence is to be maintained to pertinent accident prevention regulations applicable
at the site where the OLF is used.
• The safety precautions listed herein are limited solely to using the MRF.
The MRF has been designed and constructed in accordance with the current state of the art
and recognized safety regulations. Nevertheless, hazards may be posed to the life and limb
of the individual using the unit or to third parties. Risk of damage may be posed to the unit or
other equipment and property. The MRF is to be used as follows:
• solely for its designated use
• only when in a safe, perfect condition
• Any faults or malfunctions which might impair safety are to be properly repaired or
remedied immediately.
Our General Terms and Conditions apply. They are made available to the owner upon
concluding purchase of the unit at the latest. Any and all warranty and liability claims for
personal injuries and damage to property shall be excluded in the event they are attributable
to one or more of the following causes:
• improper use of the MRF or use deviating from its designated use
• improper assembly, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the
MRF
• operating the MRF when the system equipment or systems are defective
• modifications to the product made by the user or purchaser
• improper monitoring of product components subject to wear and tear
• improperly performed repair work
1.2 Abbreviations and Basic Symbols
The following designations and symbols for dangers are used in this manual:

1.3 Basic Symbols
This symbol denotes safety precautions, the non-observance of which can
endanger persons and the environment.
This symbol designates safety instructions whose non-observance may
result in the injury of individuals by electric shock.
This symbol marks an important note for the proper use of the MRF.
Non-adherence to these instructions may result in damage to the MRF or in
damage to its immediate surroundings.
This symbol is followed by user tips and particularly useful information.
This information helps you to optimally utilize all the features offered by
your MRF.
1.4 Proper/Designated Use
The MultiRheo Filter MRF is a stationary filter unit used for full flow and bypass flow filtering
from low viscosity fluid.
Any use deviating from what is specified herein shall constitute improper use.
The manufacturer will assume no liability for any loss or damage as the result thereof.
Proper or designated use of the OLF extends to the following:
• Maintaining adherence to all the instructions contained herein.
• Performing requisite inspection and maintenance work.
1.5 Improper Use
Any use deviating from the proper/designated use described above is prohibited.
Improper use may result in hazard to life and limb.
1.6 Safety Devices
Prior to starting up the filter unit each time, make sure that all the protective safety devices
are properly installed and are in proper working order.
1.7 Informal Safety Precautions
Make sure to always keep the operating instructions in the vicinity of the unit.
Apart from the operating instructions, any and all general and local regulations pertaining to
accident prevention and environmental protection are to be made available and observance
to be maintained to them.
Make sure to keep the safety and hazard symbols and warnings on the unit in a legible
condition.

The hoses and connection fittings are to be checked daily for leakage (visual check). Any
loose connections or damaged cables are to be replaced immediately.
1.8 Training and Instruction of Personnel
The MRF may only be operated by properly trained and instructed personnel.
The areas of responsibility of your staff must be established in a clear-cut manner.
Staff undergoing training may not use the MRF unless supervised by an experienced staff
member.

1.9 Safety Measures to Be Followed in Normal Operation
The unit is to be checked once a day for external damage and the proper functioning of the
safety devices.
1.10 Hazards Posed by Stored Residual Energy
Note that the unit may pose a hazard as the result of residual stored mechanical and
electrical energy. Take the proper precautions when instructing personnel on the use of the
unit. Detailed information is provided in the respective sections of this manual.

1.11 Modifications to the MRF
Do not make any modifications (design modifications, extensions) to the MRF without the
prior consent of the manufacturer.
Immediately replace any machine components which are not in perfect condition.
Only use original (OEM) spare parts and consumables. When using non-OEM components it
cannot be ensured that they have been designed and manufactured so as to comply with
loading and safety requirements.

2 Transportation & Packing
All MultiRheo Filter MRF are tested at the factory for leaks and proper functioning. They are
then carefully packed for shipment.
The fluid connections are all sealed with plugs to prevent the intrusion of contaminants
during transport. Upon receipt of the unit, check it for any damage during transportation.
The packing/packaging material should be re-used/re-cycled as appropriate for your area.
3 Storage
3.1 Storage conditions
Storage may not be done unless the MRF has been completely drained, cleaned and flushed
and the filter elements have been removed. Check the external corrosion protection (paint
coat) for damage, apply a new coat or touch up the existing one as needed. The cleaned
inside of the housing body has to be protected using a suitable anti-corrosion agent like
ANTICORIT 3 (manufacturer: Fuchs-DEA).
All sealing surfaces, e.g. of the flanges, have to be greased before reassembling the MRF.
Storage temperature: +5°C to +30°C Humidity: up to 50% relative humidity
3.2 Duration of Storage
Storage under suitable conditions may be done for a maximum of 6 months. Generally
speaking, recommissioning during this period is possible. If the MRF is to be put into storage
for a longer period of time, it is to be sealed in a wrapping using a suitable desiccant. Check
the wrapping regularly for damage and, if necessary, replace it. Replace the desiccant in a
timely manner as needed. Before recommissioning the MRF, make sure that there is no
corrosion and replace all seals and gaskets.
3.3 Space Requirements / Safe Load
The MRF should be stored in an upright position. The load-bearing capacity of the floor has
to amount to a minimum of 2000 kg/m². In cases of doubt, check the structural strength of the
foundation. Access has to be enabled from all sides for maintenance work.

the forwarding agent immediately.

15 Technical Specifications
The MultiRheoFilter (MRF) is a stationary filtration unit used for the full-flow and bypass
filtration of low-viscosity fluids for separating out particles from 100 microns to 1 micron
(absolute) in size.
The MultiRheoFilter is a filter series designed for the use of Deka and Mega Reho filter
elements.
1.15.1 Suitable Fluids
The unit many only be used for the following:
• hydraulic fluids, lubricant oils or mineral oil-based raffinates
• coolant lubricants
Please contact us before using other fluids.

6 Installation of the MultiRheoFilter (MRF)
The unit must be mounted level and on a flat surface. Special mounting is required.

Sufficient clearance has to be present at the sides in order to enable the cover to be swiveled
out to the side.

6.3 Dimensions
Make sure that there is sufficient space (min. 1050 mm) above the filter
housing as this is needed for removing the filter elements.
6.4 Hydraulic Connection
Connection to the hydraulic system is to be done using flexible tubing or piping. Make sure
that no vibrations or stress/loading from other machinery and equipment are carried over to
the filter housing. If necessary, use expansion joints.
6.4.1 Notes on Piping / Hosing
In order to keep the pressure differential as low as possible, use as few threaded
connections as possible.
The pressure differential in a hydraulic line is dependent on the following factors:
• flow rate
• kinematic viscosity
• pipe dimensions
• density of fluid
The pressure differential can be estimated for hydraulic oils as follows:

This applies to straight pipe runs and hydraulic oil. Additional threaded connections and pipe
bends increase the pressure differential.
Keep the difference in height between the pump and the oil level in the tank as small as
possible.
Hoses must be suitable for suction pressures of at least -0.5 bar.
Bottlenecks or narrow places in the connecting lines are to be avoided as the flow rate is
reduced and a cavitation hazard is posed.
The nominal width of the connecting line must correspond at minimum to the cross-sections
of the connector threads or the connector flange.
7 Commissioning
The MRF is supplied ex works without any filter elements. Prior to commissioning, the filter
elements have to be inserted in the housing. For more information, see the section on
Changing the Filter Elements.
7.1 Installing / Changing the Filter Elements
When changing the filter elements make sure that the housing has been
depressurized and that the pump is switched off.
When changing the filter element, proceed as follows:
Switch off the pump.
Close off the shut-off valve on the suction and pressure side.
Relieve the pressure of the housing. Carefully open the air-vent
fitting in the cover.

Open the drainage valve (at the side) on the dirt side and capture
any exiting fluid (make sure to adhere to occupational safety and
environmental protection rules and regulations).
Close the drainage valve when fluid ceases to exit.
The entire housing is drained via the drainage valve (at bottom)
on the clean side. Open this valve and capture any exiting fluid
(make sure to adhere to occupational safety and environmental
protection rules and regulations).
Close the drainage valve when fluid ceases to exit.
Undo all the clasp bolts on the cover using an open-jaw wrench
(wrench size: 24 mm).
Disengage all the clasp bolts.
Lift up the cover by turning the handwheel in a clockwise direction
and swivel it to the side.
Remove all the filter elements and dispose of them properly.
Clean the inside of the housing of dirt and other matter.
