I.Introduction
Withethernet connectionandfile transferprotocolsupport,digitalmediafiles like MP3ʼs
and MPEGʼs canbedownloadedandstoredontoa compactflash cardfroma host
server.Youcanthensetwhichfiles areplayedviaa textbasedplaylistandset
parameterssuchassequenceandtimeschedule.

1. Playlist
•Theplaylistisa scripttextfile thatincludescommand,timescheduling,
filename downloadsandcontentserverIPaddressesforthesignageplayer
clienttoexecute.PlaylistsarecreatedusingCAT(Client AdministrationTool)
software.
2. BasicOperationwithoutCAT
•Althoughusingtheplaylistcommanderandserver/clientsetuputilitiesinCAT
isrecommended,youcanalsopre-configurethosesettingstohavethe
signageplayerautomateplayback.Networksetupincludesusername,
password, server IP, clientDHCPorstatic IP, andHTTPorFTP serverʼs URL
addresstodownloadplaylist(ex:http://www.example.com/play/playlist.mpl)

awebbrowser.Althoughnotasfeature-richasCAT,iCATwillletyou
schedulea playlistandremoteupdatefiles. Pleaseaskyoursalesassociate
formoreinformationoniCAT.
Language:Selectwhichlanguageisusedforthescrollingticker.
FactoryDefault:Willloadpre-definedvaluesintoSetupsettings.
SaveandReboot:Saveallchangesandrebootplayer.
ReturntoMenu:Returnstomainmenu.
Note: TheseclientsetupvaluescanbemodifiedundertheClientSetupUtilitylocated
inCAT.Thevalueswillbesavedina configurationfile called“autoconfig.mia”.Youcan
savethisfile ontoa CFcardandautoupdatethesignageplayermanuallybyinsertingit
intotheCFslotandswitchingthepowertoon.Ifyousavetheconfigfile as
“autoconfig.mib”,thesignageplayerwilldeleteitafterupdate.

4.TextMessageFormat
Atextfile canbeusedtostoreanytextdataincludingEnglish,ChineseorJapanese.It
willscrollsimilartoa stocktickeruponanypictureorvideoplayback.
Thefirst lineonthetextfile canbeusedtoprogramsettings.

1. CAT.exe
CATisa programthatallowsadministratorstoupdatemediacontentthroughthe
internet.Aslongasthesignageplayerisconnectedtoa networkthathasaccessto
theinternet,CATwillbeabletocontrolandmaintainplaylists,messagefiles and
normaloperationcommandslikepoweringdownorrebooting.CATwillrunoneither
WindowsXPorWindowsVista.

2. AccountSetup
TheAccountcommandisusedtocreateormanageuserorgroupnames.Youcan
createmultiplegroupsandassigndifferentaccountnamestothesegroups.When
anyclientlogsintoCAT,itwillgoinitscorrespondinggroupiftheaccountnames
match. Ifthereisnomatch,thentheclientwillfallunderthedefaultHomegroup.
Autoplayisa newfeatureavailableonCATandfirmware version0225andlater
(firmwareversioncanbeviewedontheupperrightsectionofthemainmenuonthe
signageplayerandtheCATversionontheHelp->Aboutscreen)
WhenthesignageplayerpowersupandlogsintoCAT,theprogramwill
automaticallysenda playlistfile andupdatecontentsasspecifiedontheplaylist.To
enablethismode,makesurethatAutostartisturnedOFFintheplayersetupscreen.

3.ServerUtilitySetup
Underthe Too ls menu,youcanlocatetheServerSetupUtilitywhichisusedbythe
administratortomakechangesontheserver.Serverport5021isthedefaultport
usedbyCATtoaccessthesignageplayer.PASVportisusedwhenyouaccessan
FTPthroughtheplaylistcommander.TheRSStickerfile willonlybeusedwhenyou
arerunningRSSfeedsthroughthesignageplayer.

4.ClientUtilitySetup
UnderthesameTools menu,youcanlocateClientSetupUtilitywhichisusedby
theadministratortomakechangesonthesignageplayer.Theautoconfig.miafile is
usedasanupdatefile andtheinternalEEPROMwillsaveanychangesafterthe
update.
a)IPorHostname:Inputa staticIPforLANserverora hostnameforremote
internetserver.
b)Port:Thedefaultportis 5021. If 5021 isinuseontheserverside,thenyou
canmanuallychangeittoanyopenport.Besuretoinputthesameport
numberinCATunderServerSetupUtilityandforwardthe routerʼs port
settingifneeded.
c)ClientAccountNameandPassword:Typeintheusernameandpassword
forthesignageplayerclient.
d)DHCPorStaticIP:SelecteitherdynamicIPinwhichtherouterwillissuethe
signageplayeranIPorfixed staticIP.
e)TimeZone:Selectyourlocaltimezone.

f)DaylightSaving:Checkthisboxtoaddonehour.
g)RebootTime:Thesignageplayerwillrebootatspecifiedtimeifboxis
checked. Thisoptioncanbeusefulwhenyouneedtoupdatethesignage
playerʼs playlistandmediacontentsbecauseupona reboot,theclientplayer
willautomaticallycheckforlatestplaylistversionifautostartisenabledfor
HTTPURLupdate(explainedbelow).
h)DeviceOn:Thesignageplayerwillturnonvideoatspecifiedtime.
i)DeviceOff:Thesignageplayerwillturnoffvideoatspecifiedtime.
j)Videooutput:OptionsincludeS-Video(composite),andVGA.Withthe
remotecontrol,usetheAnglekeytocyclebetweenmodes.
k)Off/LocalCF/HTTPURL Address: Whenthesignageplayerbootsup
initially,itwillexecuteoneofthreecommandsdependingonthisoption.OFF
willpausethesignageplayertowaitfornextcommand.LocalCFwill
autoplayanymediacontentontheCFcardbasedonlocalplaylist.URL
AddresswillspecifythesignageplayertogotothisURLanddownload/update
playlistandanynewmediacontentsubsequently.
l)UpdateClient:Thisisa remotecommandtoupdatethesignageplayerwith
anewautoconfig.miafile. Itwillsendthisfile tothesignageplayerandthese
newsettingswillbesavedinEEPROM.Itwilltakeapproximately20-30
secondstoreboot.

6.RSSAdvantageSoftware
RSSprovidesyouraudiencewitha up-to-datefeedofinstantnewsandevents
aroundtheworld.Tousethisfeature,youmustinstalltheRSSsoftwareprovidedby
themanufacturerandnotfromtheRSSadvantagewebsite.Thissoftwareprovides
andRSS2.0feedthatallowsadministratorstomanagetheirfavoriteRSSlinks.
NewstickersonthePCserversidewillmemirroredonthesignageplayerdisplayas
longastheRSSbuttonispressed.
Notethatthebundledversioniswithoutsomeusefulfeatures.Ifyoupreferto
unlockyourRSSsoftware,pleaseclick on“Help->About”topurchaseanupgraded
versionfora 10%discount.
