Statement 1:
DANGER
Electrical current from power, telephone, and communication cables is
hazardous.
To avoid ashock hazard:
vDo not connect or disconnect any cables or perform installation,
maintenance, or reconfiguration of this product during an electrical
storm.
vConnect all power cords to aproperly wired and grounded electrical
outlet.
vConnect to properly wired outlets any equipment that will be attached
to this product.
vWhen possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal
cables.
vNever turn on any equipment when there is evidence of fire, water, or
structural damage.
vDisconnect the attached power cords, telecommunications systems,
networks, and modems before you open the device covers, unless
instructed otherwise in the installation and configuration procedures.
vConnect and disconnect cables as described in the following table
when installing, moving, or opening covers on this product or attached
devices.

2. First, attach all cables to devices.
3. Attach signal cables to connectors.
4. Attach power cords to outlet.

CAUTION:
When laser products (such as CD-ROMs, DVD drives, fiber optic devices, or
transmitters) are installed, note the following:
vDo not remove the covers. Removing the covers of the laser product could
result in exposure to hazardous laser radiation. There are no serviceable
parts inside the device.
vUse of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than
those specified herein might result in hazardous radiation exposure.
DANGER
Some laser products contain an embedded Class 3A or Class 3B laser
diode. Note the following.
Laser radiation when open. Do not stare into the beam, do not view
directly with optical instruments, and avoid direct exposure to the beam.

vConfiguring the switch module through the Telnet interface
vConfiguring the switch module through the Advanced Web Tools interface

Notes:
1. The Brocade 20-port 4Gb SAN Switch Module for IBM Eserver
BladeCenter and the Brocade 10-port 4Gb SAN Switch Module for IBM
Eserver BladeCenter are referred to throughout this document as the
Brocade switch module or the switch module.
2. All IBM Eserver BladeCenter units are referred to throughout this
document as the BladeCenter unit.
3. The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your hardware.
4. The sample screens that appear in this document might differ slightly from
the screens that are displayed by your system. Screen content varies
according to the type of BladeCenter unit that you are using and the
firmware versions and options that are installed.
5. When you are using the Brocade switch module with aBladeCenter Tunit,
the internal ports operate at 2Gb, and the external ports operate at up to 4
Gb.
The switch module is aFibre Channel component that consists of 20 ports:
v14 internal ports to connect to the BladeCenter unit blade server bays
v6external Fibre Channel user ports to connect to external Fibre Channel
devices
You can manage and configure the switch module through multiple interfaces.
vATelnet connection to the embedded command-line interface (CLI)
For more information, see Chapter 4, “Configuring the switch module
through the Telnet interface,” on page 25.
vAWeb browser (Advanced Web Tools) interface
For more information, see Chapter 5, “Configuring the switch module

The Brocade 20-port switch module enables use of all 14 internal and six
external ports. The Brocade 10-port switch module enables use of seven
internal and three external ports. You can upgrade the Brocade 10-port switch
module by purchasing an optional license key that provides 20-port capability.
Record information about the switch module in the following table. You will
need this information when you register the switch module with IBM.

vCommon Language Equipment Identification (CLEI) label, which is on the
left side of the switch module
vMedia access control/worldwide name (MAC address/WWN) label, which
is on the left side of the switch module
vMedia access control address (MAC address) label, which is on the bottom
of the information panel

This section provides asummary of the features and specifications of the
switch module.
The switch module has the following features:
vOne PPC405GP processor that operates at 200 MHz
vOne 256 Kb serial electrically erasable programmable read-only memory
(SEEPROM)
vOne real-time clock with a10-year battery
vTwo temperature sensors
vSix external autosensing Fibre Channel ports that operate at amaximum of 4
Gbps (gigabits per second)
v14 internal fixed-speed Fibre Channel ports that operate at amaximum of 4
Gbps
vTwo internal full-duplex 100 Mbps Ethernet interfaces, terminated at asingle
MAC
vPower-on diagnostics and status reporting
vStandard Ethernet and Fibre Channel management information base (MIB)
support
vExternal ports that can be configured as F_ports (fabric ports), FL_ports
(fabric loop ports), or E_ports (expansion ports)
vInternal ports that are configured as F_ports at 2Gbps or 4Gbps
vFrame-filtering technology that enables advanced zoning and monitoring

See the troubleshooting information in your system documentation for
instructions for using the diagnostic programs. The troubleshooting
information or the diagnostic programs might tell you that you need additional
or updated device drivers or other software. IBM maintains pages on the

download device drivers and updates. To access these pages, go to
http://www.ibm.com/support/ and follow the instructions. Also, some
