1. Introduction
ID TECH's VP6300 is a compact 3-in-1creditcardreaderdesignedtosupportMagstripe (MSR),
contact EMV,and contactless card reading using NFCand RFID.
The VP6300 hasa high-contrastLCD displaydesigned to deliver MSR, EMV, and contactless payment
suchas parking, ticketing,and paymentkiosks.This device supportsMasterCardPayPass,Visa VCPS,
AmericanExpress ExpressPay,andDiscover DPAS.The VP6300also supports popular digital wallet
technologies,including Apple Pay (and Apple VAS), Google Pay (including Google PaySmartTap),and
Samsung Pay.
The VP6300 is certifiedin the latestpaymentstandardsof EMV (including ContactlessLevel1
support, multiple card brand support, and full Level 1 and Level2 supportfor contact EMV),with PCI
(5.x) compliance.The unitalso offers a SRED upgrade forextra assistance withtamperresistance
measures.
The VP6300 supportsUSBand Serial(RS-232) host communicationsusingthe commandprotocol

5.3. Installing the Reader
The installation stepsbelow use the cables listedin Section5.2: Hardware and Cables. Product
installers using custom cables will have slightly differentsteps to follow.
Note: Verifythat power cords canphysicallyreachthe unit.
Refer to the VP6300 drawing shown above. Proceedto:
1. Use a #12 drill to locate,mark,and drill 0.20-inch holesfor the unit’s main mounting points.
a. Space holes 67mm apartlengthwise (oncenter)and 55mm apart(on center)along
the shorter axis.
2. Secure the unit to the enclosure with compatible boltsor screws.
3. Make sure to compress the gaskettoprotectagainstunnecessarymoisture ingress.
5.4. Connecting the Reader
The VP6300 connectstopowerandthe host device throughthe Eval cable.
1. Connectthe +7.5 to 45VDC power supply to the power inputreceptacleontheEval cable.
2. Slide the powersupply barrelinto the receivingrecess.
3. Plug the unit in to anAC outlet and verifythat the VP6300 lights up.
Note: The VP6300 requires a power supplywhether connected byRS-232or USB.

5.5. Installation Guidelines
TheVP6300 is designedtobemountedona metalsurfaceclose toanyinternalmotorsandelectrical
devicesthatmaybeoperatinginsidethe host machine.However,theunit maybesusceptible to
Radio Frequency(RF)andelectromagnetic interference.
Note:
It is importantthatthe unit not be mounted near (within 3 or 4 feet) large electric motors,
computerUPSsystems,microwave transmitters,anti-theftdevices,radio transmitters,routers.
•Thepresenceoflargemetalobjectscanreduce devicesensitivity.
•Labelthe cableendsasHost, ViVOpay,and Powerto simplify connection testing or
componentreplacement.
•Tie and route all cables neatly with nylon cable-tiesso theyare inaccessible tocustomers.
•A responsible partyshould testeach VP6300 on aregularbasis (eitheratthe start of each
dayor at least once perweek)by performinga declinedend-to-endtransaction.The front
bezel's lights should illuminate.
•Rebootthe unit on a regularbasisto ensure functionalityand continuedcommunication.

6. Using the VP6300 to Make a Purchase
Use trial transactionsto confirm the unit's ability to read Contactless test cards.
1. Connectthe VP6300 to a tablet or laptop.
2. Run the UniversalSDKDemo application (available ontheKnowledgeBase).
3. Issue a CTLS (contactless) Start Transaction command.
4. Results display in the log pane of the demoUI.
The reader will not produce any results for unsuccessfultransactions.
6.1. Presenting Cards or NFC Phones
The VP6300 allows for credit anddebit card purchases using Contactlesstechnology.
1. Presentthecardor phoneparallelto the module.The unit will beepandall four greenLEDs
should illuminate briefly to indicate a successfultest.
2. Trial transactions should confirm the unit's ability to read the Contactless test card
interactions.
3. Connect the VP6300 to a tablet or laptopandrun the UniversalSDKDemoapplication
(available onthe KnowledgeBase).
4. Issue a CTLS (contactless) Start Transaction command.
5. Results display in the log pane of the demo UI.
The readerwill not produce anyresults for unsuccessfultransactions.
7. 24-Hour Device Reboot
PerPCI Requirements,thisdevice rebootsevery24 hours. Pleasecontactyourdevice integratorif
you need to checkthe reboottime for your unit.

8. Updating VP6300 Firmware
The steps below describe the processforupdating VP6300’s firmware (for both its K81 and RT1050
processors)viatheUniversalSDKDemo.
Note:
Beforeyou begin,contactyourID TECH representative toreceivethemostrecentVP6300
firmware. Download the ZIP file and extract it to your computer.
1. Connectthe VP6300 to your PC via USBor serial port.
2. Download and install the latest USDK DemoappfromtheIDTECHKnowledgeBase(ifyou
cannotaccess the link, please contact support)
3. Openthe USDK Demo app from the Windows Start menu.
4. UnderFirmware,selectUpdate Device Firmware,thenclickExecute Command.

5. In the Firmware Type dialog,enter255 for K81 FWand clickOK.
6. In theFile Explorer window, navigateto thedirectorywhere yousavedthe VP6300 firmware
update,openthe FirmwareApp directory,and selectthe FW file thatstarts with VP6300
v1.00... andclick Open.
7. The VP6300 rebootsandentersthe bootloader,at whichpoint the USDK Demoappbegins
updating thedevice’sK81 firmware.
8. When the K81 firmwareupdatecompletes,theVP6300 reboots againand the USDK Demo
appprints Firmware Update Successful inthe Results panel.

9. Troubleshooting
The VP6300 readerisdesignedtobe reliableandeasyto troubleshoot.The componentsthatmay
requiretroubleshootinginclude thepower module (ifapplicable),thereader,andthe serialcable.

•"RESTRICTED" indicates a suspected attack.
•"FW/BL FAILED" indicatesthe binand sign do not match.
•"DEACTIVATED"indicatesno certificate injection.
•"ACTIVATED" indicates certification exists.
•"WHITELIST FAILED" indicates that CL or MSR whitelist verification failed.
•"KEYSFAILED" if no injectionkey happened.

9.2. Radio Frequency
Q. Why do I need to know about RF interference?
A. RF is whencontactlesspaymentusesradiofrequencytechnologytosendcarddata toa terminal
reader.
Q. How can RF interference affect contactless payment?
A. RF Interferencecancausedata errors. If RF Interferenceis present,contactlesspaymentdevices
may operate intermittentlyor inconsistently.
Q. Where doesRF interference come from?
A. Radio FrequencyInterference(RFI) canoriginate from a wide numberof sources atthe point-of-
sale (POS).
Someexamplesofsources ofRFenergyandRF interferenceinclude:
•AM/FM radio and TV transmitters 2-way radios,pagers
•Mobile telephonesPowerlines, transformersMedicalequipmentMicrowaves
•Electromechanicalswitches
Q. What should I do if I suspect RF interference exists in my environment?
A. Beginby inspecting the environmentforpossible sourcesof RF interference.
Q. Do equipment manufacturers test their devices for RF interference?
A. Electronic equipmentis tested for RFI sensitivity by the manufacturers.Thesetestsareperformed
in a controlledlaboratoryenvironmentandwill oftennot replicate thetypes ofdevicesthatwould be
encountered in the point-of-sale (POS)environment.
Q. What RF levels will impact RF operations?
A. Factorsthatcan cause RFinterference varycase-by-case.Therearenosetrules defininga single
RF levelthat will causeRFI.RFIdependsonthe sensitivity of the equipmentunderconsideration,or
how low an interpreting signalcanbe in the presence ofthe equipmentandcause problems.
Equipmentcanbeparticularlysensitive to very low signallevels of one frequencyandyetbequite
immune to high signallevels of another frequency- so frequencyisan importantfactor.Some
electronicsystemcomponentsare internallyshieldedand have a very high immunityto interference;
but generally,mostequipmenthasnotbeenso engineer.
10. Decommissioning SRED Devices
All PCIdevicesrequire the proper decommissioning prior to device disposalin order to ensure the
protectionof allsensitivefinancialcarddata.
