Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Product Overview
OP-13Tx series is a direct modulated 1310nm transmitter, adopts high linearity DFB
laser, and builds-in perfect pre-distortion.
Adjustment circuit and laser APC, ATC closed loop control circuit.
All the operating parameters of OP-13Tx direct modulated 1310nm transmitter are
controlled by microprocessor, and the LCD screen on the front panel.
Can display relative operating status and the fault information.
OP-13Tx series is designed and produced by absorbing the advantages of all
kinds of 1310nm transmitters from both home and abroad.
Featured of 1310nm transmitter with high index, multi-function and high reliability,
it is suitable for high-end subscribers application.

1.2 Key features
•Dual Module RF driver, high efficiency laser pre-distortion adjustment.
•Full-automatic OMI control, AGC & MGC
•Under AGC status, input level is between 78~88dBuV, and system index is optimum.
•Under MGC status, input range can be adjusted between 75~90dBuV by the ATT on
front panel.
•Under AGC status, within RF range, OMI is always at NOM status.
•Under MGC status, OMI can be at NOM status by adjusting ATT.
•Built-in dual backup power supplies; Switch full-automatically.
•One is working, with the other as cool backup (suggested).
•Both are working at the same time, with one as hot backup. If one is damaged, it will
switch to the other full-automatically. Switch time ≤10us.
•Case temperature auto-control, ensure the long life of the laser.
•Case temperature is monitored and controlled by microprocessor. The display screen
shows the actual operation temperature in time.
•When casing temperature≥45ºC, two fans at the back panel will open automatically to
make compulsive cooling.
•When casing temperature≤35ºC, the fans will stop automatically to ensure its life-
span.
•Applicable receivers OP-1Rx & FRD-400

Chapter 2 Installation Guide
This section explains precautions required when installing device
2.1 General Precautions
✓Must be operated and maintained free of dust or dirt.
✓Do not remove cover as this will void warranty.
✓Check device is not damaged due to transport, prior to installation.
✓Advise supplier of any damage
✓Save the shipping boxes and their inserts for any future reshipment for upgrade or repair.
2.2 Power precautions
✓Only Australian standard power cable should be used.
✓Avoid operating in a wet or moist environment.
✓Make sure the power switch is off, before you start to install the device
✓NOTE: In the event of a reshipment back to the manufacturer, any additional damages caused by
not using the original boxes will be considered responsibility of the customer.

2.4 Transmitter Mounting and Power Connection
1. Place the unit into a 19-inch wide rack or cabinet. Make sure to leave a ~ 4.5cm space above
and below the unit.
2. Check power is off while installing. Switch on rear panel.
3. Equipment powered by AC power supply 94-245VAC, 50-60Hz.
4. Power Consumption ~ 50W.
2.5 RF & Optical connection
RF Connection
Connect the RF cable to the F Type connector on Tx rear panel.
RF input level 75 ~ 85 dBuV
Optic connection
1. All optical connections have protective cover for transportation for protection & safety
2. In order to ensure the insertion loss & return loss, the end-face of fibre optic connector is
angled polished.
3. Be careful not to touch fibre connector surface, to avoid the polluting the connector.
4. Even very micro dust will also affect the transmission quality.
5. When unplugged the fibre optic connector, should have protection cover replaced.
6. Clean all fibre patch cords before connecting to the transmitter.
Cleaning Guidelines:
Fibre Patch cord connectors
- Remove the fibre connectors dust cap and wipe the fibre connector tip with a dry lint-
free cloth (such as Kim wipes). Inspect for scratches or debris on connector surface by
using a microscopes (ie.100x or 200x).
- If no scratches or debris are found the connector is now clean and ready for connection.
If debris or scratches are found then repeat the fibre patch cord connector cleaning guidelines.
Fibre Bulkhead connectors
- Compressed air may be used to clean fibre bulkhead connectors. Use compressed air
with at least the following specifications:
- Non-residue, inert gas for precision dust removal
- Ultra-filtered to < 0.2 microns
- Recommended for optical systems

Clean each fibre connector according to section above of the fibre cleaning guidelines.
1. Make sure the laser switch on the front panel of the transmitter is in the OFF position.
2. Connect a fibre patch cord from the output of the transmitter to an optical power meter.
3. Turn the transmitter laser switch to the ON position.
4. Using the optical power meter verify the transmitter optical power is within specification.
5. Turn the transmitter laser switch to the OFF position.
Where necessary use an in line attenuator to reduce optical power to a suitable level for optical
receiver reception.
3.0 Transmitter Controls, Indicators, and Alarms
This section of the manual will give an overview of the available menus in the OP-131Tx. All instructions in
Section 3.0 refer to the representation of the front panel shown in the diagram below. The user scrolls
through the Tx menus using the push buttons found on the front panel of the Tx.
CAUTION: Use caution when handling fibres.
Do not exceed fibre manufacturers pulling tension or bend radius specifications when
removing fibre bulkhead connector plate.
