Product Safety Information
Intended Use:
The ST400 Series air starters are intended for use in starting reciprocating internal combustion
engines. These starters are designed to be operated from a remote location after proper
installation on the engine requiring starting.
For additional information, refer to Product Safety Information Manual 45558624.

Read all manuals supplied with the starter before installing, operating,
or servicing.

Turn o air supply before installing or servicing the starter.
Operating Guidelines WARNING
• Never exceed the nameplate maximum operating pressure rating.
• Always release the start button immediately after the engine starts.
• Liberally grease the teeth on the pinion and ring gear with a quality heavy duty open gear
lubricant. This will help promote the life of the ring gear and the drive pinion.
• Operate ST400 starters on compressed air only. They are not designed or sealed for operation
on natural gas.
General Information
• The eciency of an air starter can be greatly impaired by an improper hook-up. Hoses smaller
than those recommended will reduce the volume of air to the motor. The number of tees and
elbows, and the length of the supply line should be kept to a minimum.
• On all vehicular installations and on stationary engines subject to vibration, use exible
hoses instead of rigid pipe connections. Vehicle and engine vibration will loosen rigid pipe
connections whereas hoses will absorb the vibration and connections will remain tight.
• Supply lines must be free of contaminants. New piping must be free of scale and welding slag.
• All connections must be air tight. Use Ingersoll Rand SMB-441 Sealant on all NPT connections
throughout the system.
• Always run the air supply line from the side or top of the receiver and never at or near the
bottom.
• Installation of a“glad hand” is recommended for emergency re-pressurizing of the system. To
keep the“glad hand” clean and free of dirt, and to protect it from distortion, a second“glad
hand”closed by a pipe plug can be mated to it, or a glad hand protector bracket can be used.

adjustable, housing is marked every 30 degrees. If orientation angle is not specied you will
receive -000 like shown. The inlet and exhaust is none adjustable.

Orientation of the Starter
If the factory orientation will not t your engine, the ange may be adjusted by following these
three steps.
- Loosen the six ange screws
- Rotate ange to desired location
- Apply tread locker to threads and torque screws to torque to 14 lb-ft (19 Nm)

ADVERTENCIA

• Haga funcionar los motores de arranque ST400 solamente con aire comprimido. No están
diseñados ni sellados para funcionar con gas natural.
Información General
• La eciencia de un motor de arranque neumático puede ser afectada en gran medida por una
conexión no apropiada. Las mangueras de menor tamaño que las recomendadas reducirán
el volumen de aire que llega al motor. La cantidad de uniones en T y codos y el largo de la
tubería de suministro deberán ser mantenidos en un mínimo.
• En todas las instalaciones vehiculares y en los motores estacionarios sujetos a vibración, use
mangueras exibles en lugar de conexiones de tuberías rígidas. La vibración del vehiculo y el
motor aojará las conexiones de tubería rígidas, mientras que las mangueras absorberán la
vibración y las conexiones permanecerán ajustadas.
• Las tuberías de suministro deben estar libres de contaminantes. Las tuberías nuevas deben
estar libres de incrustaciones y escoria de soldadura.
• Todas la conexiones deben ser estancas al aire. Use sellador Ingersoll Rand SMB-441 en todas
las conexiones NPT de todo el sistema.

Orientación del arrancador

-Aoje los seis tornillos de la brida

Instructions de fonctionnement
AVERTISSEMENT
• Ne jamais dépasser la pression nominale de fonctionnement maximale indiquée sur la plaque
signalétique.
• Relâchez toujours le bouton de démarrage après que le moteur a démarré.
• Graisser généreusement les dents du pignon et de la couronne avec un lubriant renforcé
et de qualité pour engrenage découvert. Cela contribuera à allonger la durée de vie de la
couronne et du pignon d’entraînement.
• Actionnez les démarreurs ST400 uniquement à l’air comprimé. Ils ne sont pas conçus ni scellés
pour un fonctionnement au gaz naturel.
Informations générales
• L’ecacité d’un démarreur pneumatique peut être réduite de manière importante suite à
un branchement défectueux. Les tuyaux plus petits que ceux recommandés entraînent une
réduction du volume d’air circulant vers le moteur. Le nombre de raccords en T et de coudes,
ainsi que la longueur de la conduite d’alimentation devront être réduits au minimum.
• Sur toutes les installations pour véhicules et sur les moteurs xes exposés aux vibrations,
utiliser des connexions de tuyaux exibles et non des connexions rigides. La vibration du
véhicule et du moteur desserra les connexions de tuyaux rigides tandis que les connexions
exibles absorberont la vibration et les connexions resteront serrées.
• Les conduites d’alimentation ne doivent pas contenir d’agents polluants. La nouvelle
tuyauterie doit être dépourvue de dépôts et de laitier de soudage.
• Toutes les connexions doivent être étanches à l’air. Utiliser l’enduit d’étanchéité
Ingersoll Rand SMB-441 sur toutes les connexions NPT du système.
• Utiliser toujours la conduite d’alimentation en air depuis la partie latérale ou supérieure du
récepteur et jamais depuis la partie inférieure ou à proximité de celle-ci.

• L’installation d’une “tête d’accouplement” est recommandée pour une remise sous pression
d’urgence du système. Pour conserver la“tête d’accouplement” propre et sans impuretés,
et pour la protéger contre la déformation, une deuxième“tête d’accouplement”, fermée par
un bouchon de tuyau, peut être accouplée à celle-ci, ou un support de protection de la tête
d’accouplement peut être utilisé.

Orientation du démarreur
Si l’orientation d’usine ne s’adapte à votre moteur, la bride peut être réglée en suivant les étapes
suivantes.
-Desserrez les six vis de la bride
-Faites pivoter la bride vers l’emplacement désiré
-Appliquez le frein let aux lets et aux vis dynamométriques et serrez les vis au couple
moteur de 14pi./lb (19Nm)

Linee guida di funzionamento
AVVERTIMENTO
• Non superare mai il valore massimo della pressione operativa indicato sulla targhetta.
• Dopo aver avviato il motore, rilasciare immediatamente il pulsante di avvio.
• Ungere abbondantemente i denti sul pignone e la corona dentata con un lubricante per
ingranaggi scoperti per impieghi gravosi. In questo modo è possibile incrementare la durata
utile della corona dentata e del pignone di comando.
• Azionare gli avviatori ST400 solo ad aria compressa. Non sono progettati né sigillati per il
funzionamento a metano.
Informazioni generali
• L’ecienza di uno starter ad aria può essere gravemente compromessa da un collegamento
inadeguato. Tubi essibili più piccoli di quelli consigliati riducono il volume d’aria al motore. Il
numero di raccordi aT e a gomito, nonché la lunghezza della linea di alimentazione, devono
essere ridotti al minimo.
• Su tutte le installazioni veicolari e sui motori stazionari soggetti a vibrazione, utilizzare
collegamenti con essibili anziché con tubi rigidi. Le vibrazioni del veicolo e del motore
allentano i collegamenti con tubi rigidi, mentre i essibili assorbono le vibrazioni,
mantenendo saldi i collegamenti.
• Le linee di alimentazione devono essere prive di contaminanti. Una nuova tubazione deve
essere priva di incrostazioni e scorie di saldature.
• Tutti i collegamenti devono essere ermetici. Utilizzare sigillante Ingersoll Rand SMB-441 su
tutti i collegamenti NPT del sistema.
• Azionare la linea di alimentazione dell’aria sempre dalla parte laterale o superiore del
ricevitore, mai sulla parte inferiore o in prossimità di quest’ultima.

• Si consiglia l’installazione di un“arresto manuale”per le ripressurizzazioni di emergenza del
sistema. Per tenere“l’accoppiatore manuale”pulito e privo di sporcizia e proteggerlo da
distorsioni, è possibile unire allo stesso un secondo“accoppiatore manuale”chiuso da un
tappo per tubi o una staa di protezione per accoppiatori manuali.

Orientamento dello starter
Se l’orientamento di fabbrica non è adatto al motore, la angia può essere regolata nel modo
indicato di seguito.
-Svitare le sei viti della angia
-Ruotare la angia nella posizione desiderata
-Applicare del frenaletti alle lettature e serrare le viti a una coppia di 14 lb-ft (19 Nm)

Vorgesehene Verwendung:
Diese Druckluftanlasser der Serie ST400 sind vorgesehen für den Einsatz beim Start von
Verbrennungsmaschinen mit Kolbenmotoren. Diese Anlasser sind ausgelegt, um nach dem
korrekten Einbau in die Maschine, die gestartet werden muss, von einer ferngesteuerten Lage
aus betrieben zu werden.

Vor Installation, Betrieb und Wartung alle im Lieferumfang des
Anlassers enthaltenen Handbücher lesen.

Vor der Installation oder Wartung des Starters die Luftzufuhr
abschalten.
Bedienungsanleitung WARNUNG
• Niemals den auf dem Typenschild angegebenen maximalen Betriebsdruck überschreiten.
• Starttaste immer sofort nach dem Starten des Motors loslassen.
• Zähne an Ritzel und Ringgetriebe großzügig mit hochwertigem Hochleistungs-Schmiermittel
für oene Getriebe einfetten. Dies trägt zur Verlängerung der Lebensdauer des Ringgetriebes
und des Anlasserritzels bei.
• Die ST400 Starter nur mit Druckluft betreiben. Sie sind nicht konzipiert bzw. entsprechend
versiegelt, um mit Erdgas zu funktionieren.
Allgemeine Informationen
• Die Leistung eines Druckluftanlassers kann durch einen falschen Anschluss schwer
beeinträchtigt werden. Werden Schläuche verwendet, die kleiner sind als die empfohlenen,
wird das Luftvolumen im Motor reduziert. Die Anzahl der T-Stücke und Bögen sowie die
Länge der Versorgungsleitungen sollen auf einem Minimum gehalten werden.
• Bei allen Fahrzeuginstallationen sowie bei stationären Maschinen, die Vibrationen ausgesetzt
sind, sollten anstelle von steifen Rohranschlüssen exible Schläuche verwendet werden.
Fahrzeug- und Maschinenvibrationen lockern die steifen Rohranschlüsse, während Schläuche
die Vibrationen aufnehmen, sodass die Anschlüsse fest bleiben.
• Die Versorgungsleitungen müssen frei von Verunreinigungen sein. Neue Rohre müssen frei
von Ablagerungen und Schweißschlacke sein.
• Alle Verbindungen müssen luftdicht sein. Verwenden Sie für alle NPT-Verbindungen im
gesamten System Ingersoll Rand Dichtungsmittel SMB-441.
• Verlegen Sie immer die Luftleitung auf der Seite oder der Oberseite des Empfängers, niemals
am oder in der Nähe des Bodens.
