INTRODUCTION
The temporary edge fall arrest system XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro is exclusively designed to
allow safe work along the rocky walls during excavation or rock blasting work. The XTIRPA
Buddy Roc Pro System is designed to act as the support or anchoring structure for these
uses. The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro System is one of the most ergonomic and light to use
systems in its category in the market. The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system was tested
pursuant to the applicable requirements and uses a horizontal safety line respecting the
standard CSA Z259.13.
Always ensure that the Instruction and Safety Manual is available to all the workers who have
to use the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system.
Before each use, the user must read, understand and follow the instructions of the
Manufacturer’s Instruction and Safety Manual.
Preserve the instruction and safety labels affixed on the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system
and on its specific components and parts in a clean and readable state at all times Clean or
replace if necessary. New labels can be obtained on demand.
Draw up a regular training program on the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system for new or
experienced users, as recommended below in this Instruction and Safety Manual. Draw up a
detailed inspection program, for the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system and document the
results, as recommended below in this Instruction and Safety Manual. Always inspect the
XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system before each use and at least once a year.
The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system , its components and parts bear labels indicating the
maximum capacity of each one. Exceeding the said maximum capacity may not only cause
damage to the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system or its components or parts, but also cause
serious injuries or death, in which case the Manufacturer will decline all guarantee or liability
whatsoever. The user, owner and the buyer of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system will
waive all claims, rights and recourses against the Manufacturer resulting from it.

CAUTION
The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system is part of an individual protection equipment
system, system for protection against falling off the edges, system for positioning of
work and safety for working at height.
The user must read, understand and follow the manufacturer's instructions for each
component and parts of the complete XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system. These
instructions must be sent to the user of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro System. The
manufacturer’s instructions must be followed to ensure appropriate use and maintenance of
this product. Any alteration or incorrect use of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system or of
one of its components or parts or failure to respect the instructions of the manual may lead
to serious injuries or death, and for which the Manufacturer will decline all guarantee or
liability whatsoever. The user, owner and the buyer of the XTIRPA Roc Pro system
waives all claims, rights and recourse against the Manufacturer as a result of this.
IMPORTANT : The buyer must imperatively complete and return the limited warranty
record sheet.

APPLICATION
The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system, and its several components and parts (including
harness, auto-retractable safety line, horizontal safety line, detachable mast, detachable base),
were designed to be used as part of an edge fall arrest system, work positioning, staff
handling, handling of equipment and safety for working at heights. The XTIRPA Buddy
Roc Pro System was designed to act as the support or anchoring structure for these uses.

RESTRICTIONS
a) CAPACITY: According to CSA Z259.13
b) The manufacturer certifies that the anchoring devices were subjected to tests according to
the requirements of the horizontal safety line fulfilling the standard CSA Z259.13 and
that, unless otherwise stated, they can be used by a maximum of 2 persons with an auto-
retractable safety line for protection for working at heights (class SRL-LE), pursuant to
the standard CSA Z259.2.2, per user.
c) PRECAUTIONS: Take the required precautions to limit injuries to the user and risk of
damage to the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system.
d) Use of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system at locations having hazardous environment
may require taking additional precautions to limit the option of injuries to the user or
damage to the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system. Hazards may include but are not
limited to: high temperatures, fire, flames, fumes, caustic chemical products, corrosive
environments, high voltage electrical cables, sudden pressure changes, gas or toxic or
explosive substances, water or risks of flooding, risk of wall, ceiling or floor collapsing,
mobile machinery and sharp-edged items.
e) Install and secure all signals and other precautionary and safety measures, including but
not limited to warning the users, passersby and vehicle operators driving close to the
XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system of the presence of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro
system and of workers, before starting work.
f) Wear any appropriate, certified and recommended safety equipment, including, without
limitation, safety helmet, protective glasses, leather gloves, protective clothing, safety
boots, harness compliant with CSA Z259.10, flashlight and respiratory system if
necessary.
g) Always work in teams of at least two (2) or three (3) persons: 1 officer and 1 or 2 workers
at height. Persons attached to an auto-retractable safety line (class SRL-LE) must be
qualified and trained on the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system and must have read and
understood this Instructions and Safety Manual before using the XTIRPA Buddy Roc
Pro system. The officer maintains contact with the person(s) working at a height and
remains available in case of emergency. At all times, the officer ensures that the users
who attach their auto-retractable safety lines (class SRL-LE) to their harnesses, in
accordance with the standard CSA Z259.10, are in the correct position. The Officer also
ensures that the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system is well in place and that no load
imbalance is possible.
CAUTION : The equipment must only be used by trained and competent people for this
product to be used safely.
CAUTION : The equipment must not be used beyond its limits or for purposes other than
those for which it was originally intended.

h) Use only a full body harness compliant with the standard CSA Z259.10 and certified auto
-retractable safety lines, for any user of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system, having
appropriate specifications and designed and recommended for use under special work
conditions such as those for which the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system was designed,
as indicated in this Instruction and safety Manual.
i) Plan your work before starting the works. Having the required equipment, procedures
and workers available to complete the work. These workers must be qualified and trained
on the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system and must have read and understood this
Instruction and Safety Manual before using the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system.
j) Preserve the instruction and safety labels affixed on the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro
system and its components and parts, clean and readable at all times. Clean or replace if
necessary. New labels can be obtained on demand.
k) The minimum weight of a user cannot be less than 100 lb (45 kg) or according to the
specifications of the connecting element.
l) Don’t exceed 310 lb (141 kg), i.e. The maximum work load (CMT) of the system.
m) Follow all the laws, regulations and standards that govern the entrance and exit to works
at height.
n) Any person who has not read this Instruction and Safety Manual, who has not been
trained to use the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system and who does not understand all the
instructions concerning the operation, safety, maintenance, repair and storage contained
in this Instruction and Safety Manual, and in any other recommendation provided by the
Manufacturer or its qualified trainers, is not qualified to operate the XTIRPA Buddy Roc
Pro System and does so at its own risk, and, this done, waives all claims, rights and
recourse against the Manufacturer resulting from it.
o) Make sure to respect the requirements related to the anchoring device or to the structure
chosen to serve as an anchoring point, and in particular, the minimum required resistance,
adequacy and position.
p) The maximum force applied by the system on the structure is, a force of 5000 lbf (22 kN)
in the direction of the horizontal safety line and 3600 lbf (16 kN) vertically.
q) A safety plan must be established in order to face any emergency that could arise during
work.
CAUTION : Il It is agreed and accepted that the use of the equipment (system) is limited
to a maximum of two people.
CAUTION : Any alteration or addition to the equipment cannot be performed without the
manufacturer’s prior written consent and any repair must be performed in accordance with
the manufacturer’s method of operation.
IMPORTANT : If the instruction and safety labels on the anchoring device are not
accessible after installation, additional stickers must be pasted close to the anchoring device.
IMPORTANT: During the system installation, it is important to ensure its stability.
IMPORTANT : When used as a PPE, the system must be equipped with an equipment
limiting the dynamic forces that were exerted on the user to a maximum of 6 kN (1320 LbF).
CAUTION : Anchoring devices must only be installed by competent people or organization.

r) Maximum free fall distance: Maximum free fall distance allowed for this system is
4 feet (1.2 m).
CAUTION : The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system must be placed on a hard and leveled
surface. Don’t use the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system on soft surface, such as, but without
being limited to it, sand and lawn. If you have any questions relating to the appropriate
usage, maintenance or nature of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system for your application,
please contact the manufacturer, PSP INNOVA INC.
CAUTION : Installation must be checked appropriately, for example, through calculations
or tests.
CAUTION : The fitness for use of the base materials, structural anchor or fastening
component, if any, must be considered by taking into account the loads registered on the
anchoring device during the dynamic resistance and integrity tests.
CAUTION : To ensure security during the use of the fall arrest system, it is essential to
make sure that there is enough clearance below the user, so as to avoid any injury. If any fall
were to occur, there should be enough clearance to avoid collision between the ground and
any other obstacle. See the diagram of the air draft calculation in section 8.

s) Minimum clearance: According to the number of user and length of the auto-retractable
safety line (class SRL-LE), there must be sufficient clearance under the user to ensure, at
the time of falling, that there is no obstacle in the way of the fall trajectory.
t) This anchoring point must only be used as personal protection against falls and not as a
wash equipment.

REQUIREMENTS
a) The temporary edge fall arrest system XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro is exclusively
designed to allow safe work along the rocky walls during excavation or rock blasting
work. The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro System was designed to act as the support or
anchoring structure for these uses. The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system must be used
only with adapters, anchors, connector (CSA Z259.12), other components, parts or
sub-systems certified, approved and recommended by the Manufacturer.
b) Substitutions or replacements made with adapters, anchors, connector (CSA Z259.12),
other components, parts or sub-systems may be incompatible, may endanger the safety
and reliability of the entire XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system and may cause serious
injuries or death. Thus the Manufacturer declines any guarantee or liability whatsoever
and the user, owner and buyer of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system waives all
claims, rights and recourse against the Manufacturer resulting thereof.
c) Use only auto-retractable safety line (Class SRL-LE) which is certified and in a
perfectly operational state, having the appropriate specifications, including maximum
lifting capacity, for the projected use of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system.
d) The owners must ensure that before each use, all the users of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc
Pro system have read, understood and will respect the Manufacturer's Instruction and
Safety Manual.
e) Owners must also ensure that all the users were trained to use the XTIRPA Buddy Roc
Pro system, before allowing them to use the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system, and at
least annually subsequently.
f) A person who has not read the Instruction and Safety Manual, was not trained to use the
XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system and who does not understand all the safety and
operation instructions, is not qualified to use the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system. An
untrained user exposes others and himself to serious injuries or death, wherein the
Manufacturer declines all guarantee or liability whatsoever. The user, owner and buyer
of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system waives all claims, rights and recourses against
the Manufacturer resulting thereof.
g) Refer to and follow the CSA standards as well as other local standards and regulations.
Follow all requirements of your local regulations concerning your applications.
h) See the other important operating and safety instructions contained below in this
Instruction and Safety Manual.

nature of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro System for your application, please contact the

maintenance and inspection sheet contained in this Instruction and Safety Manual.

i) Enough information must be given to ensure the compatibility of the equipment’s
various items when they are assembled into a system.
j) The life cycle of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system, and its components, will be
determined following conclusions of periodic and monthly verifications which fix the
maintenance in operation or not of the product until decommissioning of the system.
CAUTION : Any person suffering from medical conditions that may affect the user’s safety
during the normal use of the equipment and in case of emergency must refrain from using
the system.
CAUTION : It is essential for the user’s safety, if the product is resold outside the first
destination country, that the reseller provides the user guide, instructions for maintenance, for
periodic exams, as well as instructions for repairs, in the language of the country where the
product is being used. It is also important to provide any required additional information that
is specific to the equipment.
CAUTION : A danger may occur during the use of several items in which the safety feature
of one of the items is affected by or interferes with the safety feature of another item.
CAUTION : The user’s safety is directly associated with the efficiency of the equipment’s
maintenance and integrity.

MAINTENANCE/REPAIRS/
STORAGE
a) Before each use, the user must read, understand and follow the Manufacturer’s Instruction
and Safety Manual. Ensure that markings are visible at all times.
b) Before each use, carefully inspect the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system as well as all
its components and parts. Any faulty part or component could lead to serious injury
or even death.
c) The CSA standard requires a regular inspection program for any personal protection
equipment (PPE), as well as keeping the documented results of these inspections up to
date. Use the maintenance and inspection sheets included in this Instruction and Safety
Manual to document your results.
d) It is recommended to mark the next or latest inspection date on the anchoring device.
e) Switch off the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system if a problem, an unsafe or defective
condition is discovered during inspection. Return to an authorized service center or to the
manufacturer for repair.
f) The replacement of components and parts, as well as any additional service and repair
must be performed by an authorized service center that was approved by the manufacturer

(someone who is familiar with, was trained and has read and understood this Instruction
and Safety Manual completely) other than the user.
g) Periodically clean the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system with water and soft detergent.

i) Store the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system in a clean and dry place, away from direct
sunlight. Avoid places with fumes, chemical or toxic substances or environments. Do not
immerse or leave in direct contact with water since this could lead to corrosion and rust.
Inspect the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system after an extended storage period and at
least once a month..
j) The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system was designed for more than 10 years of
continuous operation. However, the life cycle of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system,
and its components, will be determined following conclusions of periodic and monthly
verifications which fix the maintenance in operation or not of the product until
decommissioning of the system.
k) Each component of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system must be stored in an individual
bag for easy transportation and handling.
CAUTION : a periodic exam must be performed at least once every twelve months.

WARRANTY
The XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system offered by the Manufacturer, PSP INNOVA INC., is
covered against all manufacturing defects due to labor and materials, for a period of two (2)
years from the purchase date. The warranty covers only the original buyer of the XTIRPA
Buddy Roc Pro system. The Manufacturer will promptly repair or replace all the
components or parts that he deemed faulty, the Manufacturer reserves the right to ask for the
allegedly faulty part to be returned to his factory, before performing any repair or
replacement.
Only the components and parts that were deemed faulty by the Manufacturer, at his sole
discretion and following any required inspection performed by the Manufacturer, will either
be repaired or replaced by the Manufacturer, whichever he chooses to perform.
Any claim must be sent in writing to the Manufacturer immediately after the owner
discovered the problem and must be accompanied by a copy of the initial buyer’s proof of
purchase. The Manufacturer will issue a complain number and will provide specific
instructions related to the complains procedures and the return of the faulty part that will have
to be followed, if required by the Manufacturer. The owner will collaborate with the
Manufacturer and his representatives in order to allow for the inspection of every part
allegedly faulty. All the incurred transport costs associated with the return of the faulty
components and parts to the Manufacturer’s factory must be paid by the owner, as the
transport fees for the return of the replacement components and parts will be covered by the
Manufacturer.
This warranty does not cover any damage to the equipment resulting from any cause other
than a defect in manufacturing and labor, including, without limitation, any damage resulting
from any abuse, lack of maintenance, inadequate handling or storage, intentional damage,
vandalism, accidental damage or damage resulting from an impact or collision, damage
during transport, damage caused by fire, by an explosion, by vapors, chemical, toxic or
corrosive substances or environments, water, normal corrosion and rust, storms, hail and any
act of God, war, insurrection, terrorist act or any other damage beyond the reasonable control
of the Manufacturer. This warranty will be applicable only to the original buyer and is the
only one applicable to the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system, in stead and in place of any
other express or implicit warranty. Without limiting the generality of what is stated above,
the Manufacturer will not be responsible for all the costs, damages or claims whatsoever,
including for all special, incident, indirect or additional damages, such as, but not being
limited to it, damage for losses in profit or expected income, interruption of business, bodily
damage, failure to fulfill any obligation including that of good faith or its reasonable care,
negligence, and for any other pecuniary loss or other loss whatsoever, resulting from or being
related in any manner to the use or impossibility of using the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro
system, even in the event of fault, offense (including negligence), strict responsibility, breach
of contract or breach of warranty, and this, even if the Manufacturer was informed of the
possibility of such damages. The Manufacturer declines any other warranty and condition,
either express, implied or statutory, including, but not limited to, any warranty or condition of
merchantability, fitness for particular use or application and for lack of negligence or
professional diligence.
IMPORTANT : The buyer must imperatively complete and return the limited warranty’s
record sheet for each product.

1. INSTALLATION OF XTIRPA BUDDY ROCK PRO XTIRPA
WITH MOVEMENT LIMITATION

1. Insert the base of the poles in the holes
previously drilled for this purpose.
IMPORTANT : Ensure that the location selected for the anchoring poles is composed of
stable rocks. In case of doubt, contact an engineer
IMPORTANT : The drilling holes used to set up the system must be located at a minimum
distance of 12 feet (3.5m) from the edge constituting the risk of falling.

sufficient depth so that the base is totally
inserted in it, up to the base plate.

2. Insert the mast A5032-01 on the base
and insert the pin in the hole provided for
this purpose to secure the mast A5032-01.
3. Fix one end of the horizontal safety
line to a pole and unwind to fix the other end
to the other Pole.
4. Attach your harness, with an auto-
retractable safety cord with protection for
working at heights (class SRL-LE) to the
horizontal safety line.
5. Attach the auto-retractable safety line
with protection for working at heights (class
SRL-LE) (A), at a distance from the edge (B)
which does not allow the user to get close to
the safe distance from the edge as specified in
the table below.

2. INSTALLATION OF XTIRPA BUDDY ROCK PRO XTIRPA
WITH FALL ARREST
1. Insert the base of the poles in the holes
previously drilled for this purpose.
IMPORTANT : These holes must have
sufficient depth so that the base is totally
inserted in it, up to the base plate.
2. Insert the mast A5032-01 on the base
and insert the pin in the hole provided for this
purpose to secure the mast A5032-01.
3. Fix one end of the horizontal safety line
to a pole and unwind to fix the other end to
the other Pole.
IMPORTANT : Ensure that the location selected for the anchoring poles is composed of
stable rocks. In case of doubt, contact an engineer.
IMPORTANT : The drilling holes used to set up the system must be located at a minimum
distance of 12 feet (3.5m) from the edge constituting the risk of falling.

4. Attach your harness, with an auto-

with protection for working at heights (class
SRL-LE) at a 10 feet distance (3 m) from the
edge (A).
3. INSTALLATION OF SEVERAL XTIRPA BUDDY ROCK PRO
IN SERIES
It is possible to longitudinally add several systems in series. The following figure illustrates
a series of XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro systems with three (3) horizontal safety lines. Each
horizontal safety line may simultaneously hold two (2) users.

4. INSTALLATION OF XTIRPA BUDDY ROCK PRO FOR
SAFETY
As it concerns an active system for protection against edge fall arrest, a safety procedure must
be elaborated after consideration of two possible situations:
a) It is the user's responsibility to ensure that a safety procedure has been developed.
b) During the safety procedure, the rescuer himself must be protected from falling
of the edge.
1. Insert the winch support A5032-07
on the mast and insert the pin in the hole
provided for this purpose to secure the
winch support A5032-07.
2. Fix the auto-retractable safety line
(SRL-R) pursuant to the standard CSA
Z259.2.2 or a cable winch, which will be used
for rescue, to the winch support A5032-07
and insert the pin in the hole provided for this
purpose to secure the safety line or the winch.
For the purpose of rescue, the safety device will be included on a ring of the mast.

MISE EN GARDE : It should be noted that only the plates, supports and adapters that were
certified, approved and recommended by the manufacturer can be used.
IMPORTANT : If you have any questions relating to the appropriate usage, maintenance or
nature of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro System for your application, please contact the
Manufacturer PSP INNOVA INC.
CAUTION : In the case of edge fall arrest systems and to ensure safety, the anchoring
device or point must always be placed correctly and the work must be performed in a way
that reduces the risk of falls as well as the height of falls. The anchoring device or point must
imperatively be placed above the user’s position.
CAUTION : With the use of a fall arrest system and to ensure safety, please check the
clearance below the user in the work place before every possible use, so that in case of a fall,
no collision with the ground can occur and no obstacle can be found on the trajectory.
IMPORTANT : The connectors (CSA Z259-12) (hooks, snap hooks, D-rings) must be able
to withstand a 3600 lbf (16 kN).
IMPORTANT : If necessary, use a safety guard to secure the work space to avoid any falls.
CAUTION : Any system must immediately be removed from circulation : if the security is
questioned or if it was used to stop a fall. Do not use the system before a competent person
authorizes in writing the product’s integrity before it can be used again.
IMPORTANT: The harness compliant with the CSA Z259.10 standard on fall arrest must
be fastened to the system’s safety line by the fall arrest suspension point of the harness
compliant with CSA Z259.10.
CAUTION : The instruction and safety manual must be followed to ensure the appropriate
use and maintenance of this product. Any alteration or incorrect use of the XTIRPA Buddy
Roc Pro system or of one of its components or parts due to non-compliance with the
instructions of the manual may lead to serious injuries or death, and for which the
Manufacturer will decline all guarantee or liability whatsoever. The user, owner and the
buyer of the XTIRPA Buddy Roc Pro system waive all claims, rights and recourse against
the Manufacturer as , a result of this.
IMPORTANT: Le harnais conforme à la norme d’antichute CSA Z259.10 doit être relié à la
corde d’assurance du système par le point d’accrochage antichute du harnais conforme
à CSA Z259.10.
