Processor
I n t el Desk t op Boar d D2550DC2 includes a passively-cooled, dual-core I nt el At om
processor wit h int egrat ed graphics and m em ory cont roller. The pr ocessor is solder ed
to t he Desktop Board and is not custom er upgradeable.
NOTE
The board is designed t o be passively cooled in a properly ventilat ed chassis. Chassis
vent ing locat ions ar e r ecom m en ded abov e t he pr ocessor h eat sin k ar ea for m axim u m
heat dissipation effect iveness.
System Memory
NOTE
To be fully com pliant wit h all applicable I ntel®SDRAM m em ory sp ecificat ions, t he
board should be populat ed w it h DI MMs t hat support the Serial Presence Detect ( SPD)
dat a structure. I f your m em ory m odules do not support SPD, you will see a
not ificat ion t o t his effect on the screen at power up. Th e BI OS will at tem pt to
con figu re t h e m em or y cont roller for n orm al op erat ion .

is com pliant with t he HDMI 1.3 specification.
Digital Visual Interface
The Desk t op Board supports Digit al Visual I nt erface ( DVI ) displays with a DVI -D back
panel port.
The DVI -D port suppor t s only digital DVI displays. The m axim um support ed resolution
is 1920 x 1200 at a 60 Hz refresh rat e. The DVI -D port is com pliant wit h the DVI 1.0
specificat ion.

Onboard Audio Subsystem

USB 2.0 Support
The Desktop Board supports up t o seven USB 2.0 ports ( four ports rout ed t o t he back
panel and t hree ports rout ed t o t wo front panel USB 2.0 headers) . One of t he front
panel USB headers supports an I ntel Z-U130 USB Solid-St at e Driv e or com pat ible
device.The USB 2.0 ports are com pat ible wit h USB 1.1 devices. USB 1.1 devices will
function norm ally at USB 1.1 speeds.
USB 2.0 support requires bot h an operat ing syst em and drivers t hat fully support
USB 2.0 t ran sf er r at es. Disablin g High-Speed USB in the BI OS reverts all USB 2.0
port s t o USB 1.1 operat ion. This m ay be r equired t o accom m odat e operat ing syst em s
that do not support USB 2.0.
NOTE
Com puter syst em s t hat have an unshielded cable at t ached t o a USB port m ight not
m eet FCC Class B requirem ents, even if no device or a low -speed USB device is
at tached to the cable. Use a shielded cable t hat m eet s the requirem en t s f or a
full-speed USB device.
SATA Interface
The Deskt op Board supports t wo SATA channels ( 3.0 Gb/ s) t hat support one device
per channel. The SATA cont roller supports I DE and ACHI configurat ion and can
operat e in bot h legacy and native m odes.
Expandability
The Desktop Board provides t he following expansion capabilit y:
•One PCI bus connect or. The con nect or can suppor t eit h er a single PCI add -in card
or a single- or dual-slot PCI riser card.
•One PCI Express Full-Mini Card slot ( com pat ible w it h Full- and Half-Mini cards) .
BIOS
The BI OS p rov ides t he Pow er -On Self-Test ( POST) , t he BI OS Set up pr ogr am , t he PCI
and SATA aut o-configurat ion utilit ies, and t he v ideo BI OS.
PCI/PCI Express Auto Configuration
I f y ou inst all a PCI / PCI Express add-in card in your com puter, t he PCI / PCI Express
auto-configurat ion utilit y in t he BI OS autom at ically det ect s and configures t he
resources ( I RQs, DMA channels, and I / O space) for t hat add-in card. You do not need
t o r un t he BI OS Set up program aft er y ou inst all a PCI / PCI Expr ess add-in card.

The BI OS includes secur it y feat u res t hat r est rict w het h er t he BI OS Set u p program can
be accessed and who can boot t he com put er. A supervisor password and a user
password can be set for the BI OS Setup and for boot ing the com puter, wit h the
following rest rictions:
•The supervisor password gives unrest rict ed access t o view and change all Set up
opt ions. I f only t he super visor passw ord is set , pressing < Ent er > at t he passw ord
prom pt of Setup gives t he user rest rict ed access t o Set up.
•I f bot h t h e su per visor and u ser passw or ds ar e set , y ou m ust ent er eit her t he
supervisor passw ord or t he user passw ord t o access Set up. Setup opt ions are then
available for viewing and changing depending on whet her t he supervisor or user
passw or d w as ent er ed.
•Set t ing a user passw or d r est rict s w ho can boot t he com puter. The password
prom pt is displayed before t he com put er is boot ed. I f only t he supervisor
password is set , t he com puter boot s wit hout asking for a password. I f bot h
passwords are set , y ou can ent er eit her password t o boot t he com put er.

Hardware Management Features

ACPI
ACPI gives t he operat ing syst em direct control ov er t he power m anagem ent and Plug
and Play funct ions of a com put er. The use of ACPI w it h t h e Desk t op Boar d r equ ires an
operat ing system t hat provides full ACPI support .

The Deskt op Board has a 3-pin sy st em fan h eader. See Figure 12 on page 37 for t he
locat ion of t h e sy st em fan header.
+5 V Standby Power Indicator
CAUTION
I f t he AC power has been swit ched off and t he st andby power indicat or is st ill lit,
disconnect the power cord before inst alling or rem oving any devices connect ed t o the
board. Failure t o do so could dam age t he board and any at tached devices.
The Desktop Board’s st andby pow er indicat or, shown in Figure 4, is lit w hen t her e is
st andby pow er to t he syst em . This includes t he SO-DI MM socket s and t he PCI bus
connector, even though t he com puter appears to be off.
