Gigabit Ethernet ExpressCard, Model 524056.
A high-performance PCMCIA-style network adapter that ts in the new
ExpressCard/54 and ExpressCard/34 slots of a computer, this card
supports the Single PCI Express lane (x1) specications, operating at
the baseline 2.5 Gbps data rate and providing faster throughput than the
current 32- and 64-bit PCI bus architectures. There’s no need to switch
to ber optic cable, either: You can run Gigabit speeds over your existing
copper-wire network cable.
And with the easy-to-follow instructions in this manual, you’ll soon be able
to enjoy the benets of these additional features:

System Requirements
Prior to card installation, make sure the following are available:
• Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista
• ExpressCard-enabled system with an available ExpressCard slot
• Cat5/Cat5E/Cat6 UTP/STP cable

Insert the Gigabit Ethernet ExpressCard into the ExpressCard slot of
your system, making sure it’s inserted all the way for a solid connection.

softwarE installation
With the Gigabit Ethernet ExpressCard inserted into the ExpressCard
slot, the computer on and Windows running, the card will be detected by
the system. Simply follow these procedures.
DRIVER INSTALLATION: WINDOWS 2000/XP/SERVER 2003
1. When the Found New Hardware Wizard screen displays, click “Cancel”
to continue the installation.
2. Insert the enclosed driver CD driver in the CD-ROM drive.
3. On the Windows desktop, click “Start,” then “Run.”
4. Enter “D:\ExpressCard\RTL81XXX\setup.exe,” then click “OK.”
NOTE: If needed, change “D:\” to match your CD-ROM drive letter
designation.
5. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions.
6. Restart Windows to complete the installation.
DRIVER INSTALLATION: WINDOWS VISTA
1. Insert the enclosed driver CD driver in the CD-ROM drive.
2. On the Windows desktop, click “Start,” then “Run.”
3. Enter “D:\ExpressCard\RTL81XXX\Vista\setup.exe,” then click “OK.”
NOTE: If needed, change “D:\” to match your CD-ROM drive letter
designation.
4. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions.
5. Restart Windows to complete the installation.
VERIFY DRIVER INSTALLATION
Click on the “Device Manager” tab in System Properties, which you
access from the Windows Control Panel. You should see “Realtek
RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (Windows 2000/XP/
Server2003” or “Realtek RTL8168C/8111C Family PCI-E Gigabit
Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) (Windows Vista)” installed in the “Network
adapters” list.

NETWORK SETTINGS
1. Click “Network Connection” in the Control Panel to set your network
settings.
2. Right-click the Local Area Connection used by the Gigabit Ethernet
ExpressCard, then select “Properties” from the pop-up menu.
3. Double-click “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” to establish your network
settings.
4. Right-click the Local Area Connection used by the Gigabit Ethernet
ExpressCard, then select “Status” from the pop-up menu to conrm
network status.
