1Introduction
1.1 About this manual
This manual is valid for VF405 Video Frenzel. These products are manufactured by:

1.2 Intended Use
The VF405 Video Frenzel systems provide information to assist in the evaluation, diagnosis and
documentation of vestibular disorders.
Eye movements are recorded by use of a goggle mounted with infrared video cameras.
The eye images are displayed in real time in large format on a computer monitor.
This information can then be used by a trained medical professional to diagnose vestibular disorders.
1.3 Warnings
Throughout this manual the following meaning of warnings, cautions and notices are used:
1. Equipment not complying with IEC 60601 shall be kept outside patient environment, as defined in
the standard (at least 1.5 m from the patient).
Any person who connects external equipment created a system and is therefore responsible for the
system complying with the requirements of IEC 60601-1-1. If in doubt, contact your service
technician or local representative for help.
2. In order to maintain a high level of safety it is necessary to have the instrument and its power supply
checked according to the medical electrical safety standard IEC 60601-1 on a yearly basis by a
qualified service technician.
1. Use this device only as described in this manual.
2. Use only the disposable Interacoustics Foam Face Cushions designed for use with the goggle.
WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in
death or serious injury.
CAUTION, used with the safety alert symbol, indicates a hazardous situation
which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.
NOTICE is used to address practices not related to personal injury

3. Be sure to use only stimulation movements that are acceptable to the patient.
4. Exchange the disposable goggle foam cushion between patients to avoid cross contamination.
Never attempt to wash the disposable goggle foam cushions
1. Clean the camera lens and the infrared coated mirrors of the goggle regularly to avoid shadows on
the displayed images.
2. Do not drop and avoid other undue impacts to this device. If the instrument is dropped or otherwise
damaged, return it to the manufacturer for repair and/or calibration. Do not use the instrument if any
damage is suspected.
3. Although the instrument fulfils the relevant EMC requirements, precautions should be taken to avoid
unnecessary exposure to electromagnetic fields, e.g. from mobile phones etc. If the device is used
adjacent to other equipment caution must be taken to observe that no mutual disturbance appears.
Within the European Union it is illegal to dispose of electrical and electronic waste as
unsorted municipal waste. Electrical and electronic waste may contain hazardous
substances and therefore has to be collected separately. Such products will be marked with
the crossed-out wheelie bin shown below. User cooperation is important in order to ensure
a high level of reuse and recycling of electrical and electronic waste. Failure to recycle such
waste products in an appropriate way may endanger the environment and consequently the
health of human beings.

2. Unpacking and Installation
Unpacking and Inspection
Check box and contents for damage
When the instrument is received please check the shipping box for rough handling and damage. If the box is
damaged it should be kept until the contents of the shipment have been checked mechanically and
electrically. If the instrument is faulty please contact your local distributor. Keep the shipping material for the
carrier’s inspection and insurance claim.
Keep carton for future shipment
The VF405 comes in its own shipping carton, which is specially designed for the VF405. Please keep this
carton. It will be needed if the instrument has to be returned for service.
If service is required please contact your local distributor.
Reporting Imperfections
Inspect before connection
Prior to connecting the product it should once more be inspected for damage. All of the cabinet and the
accessories should be checked visually for scratches and missing parts.
Report immediately any faults
Any missing part or malfunction should be reported immediately to the supplier of the instrument together
with the invoice, serial number, and a detailed report of the problem. In the back of this manual you will find a
"Return Report" where you can describe the problem.
Please use "Return Report"
Please realise that if the service engineer does not know what problem to look for he may not find it, so using
the Return Report will be of great help to us and is your best guarantee that the correction of the problem will
be to your satisfaction.
2.1 Marking
The following marking can be found on the instrument:

93/42/EEC. TÜV Product Service, Identification No. 0123,

2.2 Safety Regulations
Electrical Safety:
This audiometer is specified to comply with the international standard IEC 60601-1.
This audiometer is guaranteed according to IEC 60601-1 safety against electrical hazard only when the
connected notebook/computer is powered by batteries or the computers power supply complies with IEC
60601-1 safety regulations.
To avoid the risk of electric shock, this equipment must only be connected to supply
mains with protective earth."
This audiometer is not suitable for operation in an oxygen rich environment, in conjunction with flammable
agents or flammable anesthetics.

3 Software Installation
3.1 Video Frenzel
Insert the installation CD and follow the steps below to install the Video Frenzel. If the installation
procedure does not start automatically, click “Start”, then go to “My Computer” and double-click the
DVD/CD-RW drive to view the contents of the installation CD. Double click the “setup.exe” file to initiate
the installation.
Click “Next”.
Click “Next”.

Click “Next” and wait while installing.
Click “Continue Anyway”.
Make sure the firewire card is inserted, otherwise click “Retry” when card is inserted:

You will see this screen while the program is being installed.
Click “Close”. The Video Frenzel is now installed. Now you need to setup OtoAccess™.

1. Start OtoAccess™.
2. Go to File►Setup and select the Instruments tab.
3. Create a new Video Frenzel instrument as shown below.
4. Click Ok.
Double-click Video Frenzel in the instruments list as shown below to start the application.

3.2 External Camera (VF405 Extended only)
You must install the Logitech®QuickCam® software before connecting your camera, or some of the
camera’s features may not function properly. Only connect your camera when prompted to do so during
the software installation process. You can obtain installation instructions and software drivers
www.logitech.com/support
Insert the installation CD and follow the steps below to install the web camera software. If the installation
procedure does not start automatically, click “Start”, then go to “My Computer” and double-click the
DVD/CD-RW drive to view the contents of the installation CD. Double click the “setup.exe” file to initiate
the installation. Proceed by following the steps below.
1. In the dialog shown below, select the preferred language and click Next.
2. When prompted by the dialog shown below, connect the camera.

3. When the camera has been detected, the dialog below is shown.
4. Click Next.

5. In the dialog shown above, select Quick Install and click Next. The installation will begin.
6. As the installation is complete, the following dialog is shown.

7. Click Next.
8. When the dialog shown below appears, the web camera installation is complete.
Once the web camera is installed it can be enabled in Video Frenzel. The video frame rate is restricted to
15 frames per second to support systems with limited resources.

3.3 Foot Pedal (Option only for VF405 Extended)
The foot pedal is pre-programmed with the following functions:
Connect the foot pedal to any available USB port on the computer. There is no need for installation of
drivers or software.
3.4 Using the Software
3.4.1 General Layout
The main window of the Video Frenzel Software is shown below.
The main functions are placed in the top-left corner as detailed below.

3.4.2 License Setup
To enable Eye View mode and video recording the camera licenses must be entered into the system, as
detailed below.
To complete the license setup successfully, the enclosed License Certificate is required.
1. Connect the camera(s) to the computer.
2. Go to Menu►Help►License Setup as shown above.
3. Click License.
