Version 11.0 New Features
INTER-TEL®AXXESS®MANUAL VERSION 11.0 –May 2008
FEATURES AND ENHANCEMENTS IN V11.0
The following sections summarize new features and enhancements provided with v11.0. For
information on the new features, refer to the pages listed below:
•Call Processing Server on Windows Server 2003 (see below)
•Music-On-Hold for Call-Routing Tables (see below)
•Caller ID Forwarding (see below)
•Caller ID Enhancements (see page vii)
•Phantom Devices Enhancement (see page vii)
CALL PROCESSING SERVER ON WINDOWS SERVER 2003
Windows Server®2003 (Telco version) operating system (OS) with Service Pack 2 (SP2) is
now supported for the Call Processing Server (CPS). Field upgrades must be done by certified
technicians only. See “Call Processing Server on Windows Server 2003” on page C-3 for
details.
MUSIC-ON-HOLD FOR CALL-ROUTING TABLES
Inter-Tel Axxess Call Processing manages the audio connections for incoming Public Switched
Telephone Network (PSTN) calls. Currently, when a device places a call on hold, the trunk set-
tings determine how it provides hold audio for the outside party. This determination is based
on the settings at the Central Office (CO) trunk group to which the trunk resides. The settings
include “Music-On-Hold,” “Audio on Transfer to Ring,” “Audio on Transfer to Hold,” and
“Audio on Hold for Transfer Announcement.” Each of these fields allows for various options,
including Silence, Tick Tone, Ringback, Board, Music-On-Hold, and Use Next Device’s Audio
Source. See page 6-324 for details.
Call Processing (CP) v11.0 modifies this functionality such that CO trunk calls routed through
Call Routing Tables (CRTs) use the matching CRT entry’s “Music-On-Hold Profile” to over-
write the settings at the CO Trunk Group. See “Music-On-Hold for Call-Routing Tables” on
page 5-98 for details.
CALLER ID FORWARDING
Caller ID forwarding allows Call Processing (CP) to send Caller ID information from any
incoming services to the public or private network using Primary Rate Interface (PRI) or Basic
Rate Interface (BRI) Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) circuits. In the European
market Caller ID is known as Calling Line Identification [CLID]. When Caller ID is enabled,
the system includes information that identifies the caller to the public or private network. For
additional information, see the following locations in the manual:
•Feature Descriptions (see page 5-77)
•Troubleshooting (see page 7-36)
OAI Caller ID Control
System OAI Level 2 Toolkit v9.3 has been enhanced to support Caller ID Forwarding by add-
ing the <Caller_ID_Number> and <Caller_ID_Name> fields to the syntax of the command
string. For details, refer to the latest version of the System OAI Toolkit Specifications Manual,
document part no. 835.2615.

Version 11.0 New Features
INTER-TEL®AXXESS®MANUAL VERSION 11.0 –May 2008
CALLER ID ENHANCEMENTS
Because some Central Offices are now requiring that calls have Caller ID set, this release adds
the “Calling Party Number” and “Calling Party Name” fields to the following settings in Data-
base (DB) Programming:
•Voice Mail (see page 6-369)
•Trunk Group (see page 6-207)
This release also adds the following fields:
•Emergency Calling Party Number (see page 6-209)
•Force Trunk Group Calling Party Name and Number (see page 6-241)
For node networking, if the connected nodes are running Axxess system software earlier than
v11.0, the older version nodes ignores all the new fields and function as it does currently.
PHANTOM DEVICES ENHANCEMENT
Phantom device functionality has been enhanced in v11.0. The new phantoms are fully func-
tional virtual devices on the system. For additional information, see the following locations:
•Feature Descriptions (see page 5-120)
•Programming (see page 6-196)
•Troubleshooting (see page 7-50)
ADDITIONAL SYSTEM CHANGES
The following changes are not related to the v11.0 new features and enhancements:
•Windows Vista Support (see below)
•Axxess v9.1 End of Sale (see page vii)
•New Enhanced IP Resource Cards (see page viii)
•Models 8622 and 8662 Multi-Protocol Endpoint PoE Class 2 Support (see page viii)
•New Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) Gateways (see page viii)

Version 11.0 New Features
INTER-TEL®AXXESS®MANUAL VERSION 11.0 –May 2008
NEW ENHANCED IP RESOURCE CARDS
The Inter-Tel Axxess Internet Protocol Resource Card (IPRC) “enhanced” daughter card offers
new technology for echo cancellation on all calls routed through the IPRC, as well as enhanced
diagnostics for troubleshooting echo problems. When the enhanced daughter card is installed
and programmed, the new technology on the daughter card replaces the echo cancellers on the
IPRC, resulting in improved echo cancellation. There are two types of enhanced daughter cards
available:
•IPRC-DE (Daughter Enhanced), part no. 550.2277: Provides new echo cancellation
technology.
•IPRC16-DE, part no. 550.2276: Provides new echo cancellation technology with the
DSP circuitry for up to 16 additional Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) channels.
For more information, refer to the IPRC Enhanced Daughter Card Installation Instructions
(document part no. 835.3195) and the IPC/IPRC and IP Endpoint Firmware Notice (document
part no. 835.2720-9).
MODELS 8622 AND 8662 MULTI-PROTOCOL ENDPOINT POE CLASS 2 SUPPORT
New Models 8622 and 8662 endpoints are now available. They are Class 2 Power over Ether-
net (PoE) devices. The new endpoints replace the existing endpoints. Table 1 shows the exist-
ing and new part numbers.
NEW SESSION INITIATED PROTOCOL (SIP) GATEWAYS
The following new SIP gateways are available through the Inter-Tel®CommSource®division:
•Quintum®AFT 400 gateway
•AudioCodes™MP-114 SIP gateway
These gateways replace the AudioCodes MP-104 SIP Gateway that has gone end-of-life in
October 2006. Both gateways support analog Foreign eXchange Office (FXO) ports. The setup
procedure is different for each device; the MP-114 gateway uses a Web interface called the
AudioCodes Web administrator, while the AFT 400 gateway uses a Configuration Manager
program and a Command Line Interface (CLI). Existing Axxess systems must upgrade to
v10.0 or later to support the gateways. For more information, refer to the Inter-Tel Axxess/5000
Quintum SIP Gateway Installation Manual (document part no. 835.3123) or the Inter-Tel
Axxess/5000 AudioCodes MP-114 SIP Gateway Installation Manual (document part no.
835.3202).

EM v1.1
EM v1.1, Service Pack (SP) 2, was released in February 2008. For a list of enhancements, refer
to the Enterprise Messaging Installation and Maintenance Manual Issue 1.1, Revised February
2008 (document part no. 780.8006). This release does not support Unified Messaging Open
Standards Edition (OSE) v2.0 (see below).
EM v1.2
EM v1.2 is scheduled to release in May 2008. This release supports Unified Messaging OSE
v2.0 (see below). For information about EM v1.2, refer to the Addendum to the Issue 1.1 Inter-
Tel Enterprise Messaging Installation and Maintenance Manual For Version 1.2 Software (part
number 780.8007).
EM v2.1
The following new features are to be introduced in EM v2.1. These new features require a
v11.0 or later system:
•Option Swap: 7 and 9 Keys (see page 4-70)
•VPIM Networking (see page 4-71)
UNIFIED MESSAGING OPEN STANDARDS EDITION
Axxess v8.23x or later supports Unified Messaging OSE, a client-free Unified Messaging dis-
tribution for the Inter-Tel Enterprise Messaging voice messaging server. Unlike previous Uni-
fied Messaging products from Inter-Tel, users do not have to install a special Unified
Messaging client application on their desktop computer to view, play, and manage voice mail
messages. With Unified Messaging OSE, the e-mail client can be any Internet Message Access
Protocol (IMAP) v4 compliant client that is configured to connect to the IMAP server located
on Enterprise Messaging. To use the latest version of Unified Messaging OSE, v2.0, existing
Axxess systems must upgrade to v10.2 or later, and to Enterprise Messaging v1.2 or later.
For Unified Messaging OSE v2.0 programming and feature information, refer to the latest ver-
sion of the Unified Messaging Open Standards Edition Administrator’s Guide (document part
no. 835.3162). For end-user information and instructions for using features, refer to the Unified
Messaging Open Standards Edition User Guide (part number 835.3164).
UNIFIED MESSAGING END OF SALE
Unified Messaging versions 2.2 (VPU) and 2.3 (EM) have reached their end of sale and are no
longer supported as of April 30, 2008.
Inter-Tel recommends that current UM v2.2 and v2.3 installations upgrade to UM Open Stan-
dards Edition (OSE). See Unified Messaging Open Standards Edition above for more informa-
tion.

LICENSING
Table 2 lists the licenses required for v11.0.
INSTALLING
Because there is no new hardware for v11.0, there are no new installation instructions in this
release.
UPGRADING
Axxess v11.0 now supports the Call Processing Server on Windows Server 2003. Not all hard-
ware configurations can be upgraded to Windows Server 2003. See Table E-2 on page E-8 for
the CPS upgrade method to Windows Server 2003. Axxess v11.0 continues to support Win-
dows 2000 Professional OS for the CPS.
A software license is required for all upgrades. If you are upgrading from 10.x or earlier, a
v11.0 upgrade license is required. To upgrade an Axxess system v11.0, follow the procedures
outlined in “Appendix E — Upgrading to v11.0” on page E-1.
DB PROGRAMMING CHANGES
This section describes minor changes that are made in v11.0 DB Programming. The changes
are not related to the v11.0 new features and enhancements.
System – Cabinets
When the Loop Start Card/Daughter cards (LSC-Ds) and Singe Line 16 Cards (SLC-16s) are
programmed in DB Programming, and there are LSCs and SLCs installed in the associated
slots and vice versa, the cards are not allowed to come online. They are, instead, logged as
“Ignored” when plugged in. This change prevents a potential one-way audio problem where
the system fails to allocate the necessary voice channels for a hardware board. The problem
only exists for hardware boards that do not match the DB Programming board type.
Voice Processor – Devices – Mailboxes – <node> – <mailbox>
To improve the programming procedures for Unified Messaging, the Fax/E-Mail Forwarding
subfolder has been removed. The fields in this folder are now located in the Unified Messaging
subfolder under Voice Processor/Devices/Mailboxes/<node>/<mailbox>.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The following troubleshooting issues are discussed:
•Caller ID Forwarding Issues (see page 7-36)
•Phantom Device Issues (see page 7-50)
