Operating manual
1. Intended use
The High Tempe atu e Ci culato s HT60-M2 and HT60-M3 a e to be employed especially fo closed tempe ing
ci cuits in the labo ato y, the technical institution o the p oduction, like e.g. fo distillation plants, eaction vessels,
autoclaves, injection moulding tools.
JULABO ci culato s a e not suitable fo di ect tempe atu e cont ol of foods, semi-luxu y foods
and tobacco, o pha maceutical and medical p oducts. Di ect tempe atu e cont ol means
unp otected contact of the object with the bath medium (bath fluid).
1.1. Description
The st uctu e of the High Temperature Circulator HT60 is sub-divided in th ee zones:
 The cold zone (on top) with the elect onics fo cont olling and monito ing, the tempe atu e cont ol and the
pump moto .
 The cooling zone with the cooling coil, the float fo the level indication, a tempe atu e senso fo monito ing
the tempe atu e, the connection fo ine t-gas, the connection fo the expansion vessel as well as an ove flow
nozzle. At this place the tempe atu e monito ing is independant f om the othe safety devices.
 The heating zone (down) with the heating element, the pump, the tempe atu e senso s and the flow nozzle
The C.U.-cooling unit can be installed fi mly and fulfills two tasks.
 The tempe atu e of the tempe ing liquid in the cooling zone is supe vised. If it is necessa y the cooling wate
is led th ough the integ ated cooling coil in o de to educe the tempe atu e (without C.U.-cooling unit the
cooling coil can be connected di ectly to the cooling wate ).
 With a sepa ate cooling ci cuit th ough the C.U.-cooling unit a apid cooling of the tempe ing liquid becomes
possible.
The M2 or M control electronics is connected to the HT60-ci culato via a cont ol cable.
 The local ope ation of the cont ol elect onics M2 / M3 is effected via a splash-wate p otected keypad. The
Mic op ocesso technology allows to set th ee diffe ent tempe atu e values, to sto e and to indicate them via
the digital display LCD – the wo king tempe atu e and the values fo the excess and lowe tempe atu e
wa ning functions.
 With the integ ated p og amme the inst uctions fo setpoint and time fo six diffe ent tempe atu e p ofiles
can be sto ed and called in.
 Via an analog inte face REG+E-PROG an analog p og amme can be connected fo the setpoint.
 At the same time this inte face is p ovided with th ee analog outputs fo the eco de . Fo the best esolution
the output settings can be adjusted via the menu delete su face - should just be Menu.
The emote cont ol via the digital RS232/RS485 inte face acco ding to NAMUR allows the most mode n
p ocess technology without additional inte face.
 The excess tempe atu e p otection is a safety equipment which does not depend on the cont ol ci cle. Its
safety value is shown and can be adjusted by the MULTI-DISPLAY (LED).
 The level of liquid is acqui ed in the cooling zone, indicated to the cont ol elect onics via the cont ol cable.
The e they a e made visible by an 8-g ade level indication.

2. Operator responsibility – Safety instructions
The products of JULABO ensure safe operation when installed, operated, and maintained accordin to common
safety re ulations. This section explains the potential dan ers that may arise when operatin the circulator and
also specifies the most important safety precautions to preclude these dan ers as far as possible.
The operator is responsible for the qualification of the personnel operatin the units.
 The personnel operatin the units should be re ularly instructed about the dan ers involved with their job
activities as well as measures to avert these dan ers.
 Make sure all persons tasked with operatin , installin , and maintainin the unit have read and understand
the safety information and operatin instructions.
 When usin hazardous materials or materials that could become hazardous, the circulator may be operated
only by persons who are absolutely familiar with these materials and the circulator. These persons must be
fully aware of possible risks.

Safe ty in str u ctions f or t he op er ato r:
 Avoid strikes to the housin , vibrations, dama e to the operatin -element panel (keypad, display), and
contamination.
 Make sure the product is checked for proper condition re ularly (dependin on the conditions of use).
Re ularly check (at least every 2 years) the proper condition of the mandatory, warnin , prohibition and
safety labels.
 Make sure that the mains power supply has low impedance to avoid any ne ative effects on the instruments
bein operated on the same mains.
 This unit is desi ned for operation in a controlled electroma netic environment. This means that transmittin
devices (e. ., cellular phones) should not be used in the immediate vicinity.
 Ma netic radiation may affect other devices with components sensitive to ma netic fields (e. ., monitors).
We recommend maintainin a minimum distance of 1 m.
 Permissible ambient temperature: max. 40 °C, min. 5 °C.
 Permissible relative humidity: 50% (40 °C).
 Do not store the unit in an a ressive atmosphere. Protect the unit from contamination.
 Do not expose the unit to sunli ht.
Appr opr i ate op erat ion
Only qualified personnel is authorized to confi ure, install, maintain, or repair the circulator.
Persons who operate the circulator must be trained in the particular tasks by qualified personnel. The
summarized user uidance (short manual) and the specification table with information on individual parameters
are sufficient for this.
Use
The bath can be filled with flammable materials. Fire hazard!

Observe all warnin s for the used materials (bath fluids) and the respective instructions (safety data sheets).

Insufficient ventilation may result in the formation of explosive mixtures. nly use the unit in well ventilated
areas.

When using hazardous materials or materials that could become hazardous, the operator must affix the
enclosed safety labels to the front of the unit so they are highly visible:
If this unit is intended for use within the United States of America, all 3 warning labels must be affixed to the
housing of the unit prior to use. Directions for the positioning of the individual warning labels are enclosed with
the warning labels included in the delivery. Warning labels must be easily visible to users.

2.1. Disposal
The product may be used with oil as bath fluid. These oils fully or partially consist of mineral oil or synthetic oil.

Notice:
Danger of corrosion of heat exchanger due to unsuitable quality of cooling water.
 Due to its high content of li e, hard water is not suitable for cooling and causes scale in
the heat exchanger.

4.1. Explanation of safety notes
In addition to the safety warnings listed above, warnings are osted throughout the manual.
These warnings are designated by an exclamation mark inside an equilateral triangle.

4. . Safety instructions
Follow the safety recommendations to revent damage to ersons or ro erty. Further, the
valid safety instructions for working laces must be followed.
 Only connect the unit to a ower socket with earthing contact (PE – rotective earth)!
 The ower su ly lug serves as safe disconnecting device from the line and must be
always freely accessible.
 Place the instrument on an even surface on a ad made of non-flammable material.
 Do not stay in the area below the unit.
 Make sure you read and understand all instructions and safety recautions listed in this
manual before installing or o erating your unit.
 Set the safety tem erature.
 Never o erate the unit without bath fluid in the bath.
 Pay attention to the thermal ex ansion of bath oil during heating to avoid overflowing of
the fluid.
 Prevent water from enetrating into the hot bath oil.
 Do not drain the bath fluid while it is hot!
Check the tem erature of the bath fluid rior to draining (by switching the unit on for a
short moment for exam le).

Safety notes for the user

 Employ suitable connecting tubing.
 Avoid sharp bends in the tubing, and maintain a sufficient distance from surrounding walls.
 Make sure that the tubing is securely attached.
 egularly check the tubing for material defects (e.g. for cracks).
 Never operate damaged or leaking equipment.
 Always turn off the unit and disconnect the mains cable from the power source before
performing any service or maintenance procedures, or before moving the unit.

 Sudden jolts or drops may cause damages in the interior of the unit.

Some parts of the bath cover and the pump connections may become extremely warm during
continuous operation. Therefore, exercise particular caution when touching these parts.

The temperature controlling i.e. of fluids in a reactor constitutes normal temperature system

We do not know which substances are contained within these vessels.

The user alone is responsible for the handling of these substances!
The following questions shall help to recognize possible dangers and to reduce the risks to a
minimum.
 Are all tubes and electrical cables connected and installed?

Before starting to work, obtain information concerning the substance and determine the

Notice:
When you have finished the application, it is recommended to keep on circulating the liquid in
the bath or the external system for some time. Simultaneously set the working temperature to
+20 °C to allow the temperature in the system to decrease slowly.
Thus fractional over-heating of the bath liquid is prevented.

Check the safety installations at least twice a year!

With a screw driver turn back the adjustable excess temperature protection until the shut-
down point (actual temperature).
 Low level protection
To check the function of the float of this unit it cannot be operated manually.
The 5-graded level display should therefore be observed whenver refilling.
If the bath liquid thickens or cracks, the instrument should be cleaned and checked by
qualified personnel.
Caution: Escape of vapors / gas
The necessity of degassing requires that a closed system is not entirely sealed. Especially at
increased working temperatures vapor / gas may escape.
Ensure sufficient ventilation at the place of installation!

5.1. Setup
High temperature circulator HT60 as well as

 Place the circulator on an even surface on a pad
made of non-flamma le material.
as a stand-mounted unit
 Place the unit in an vertical position.
 A wall distance of at least 15 cm must be
maintained for ventilation, allowing internal heat to
be conducted away from the unit.

 The unit should be set up at a dry location.
 Place the unit in an upright position and do not
