Important notice concerning the display
Please take note that during the ti e synchronisation, the display will auto-
atically switch itself off and re ain switched off for the duration of the
procedure. When carrying out a restart following a battery change, the indica-
tor for the trans itter currently being searched for will flash and the signal
controlled second indicator will be displayed. Precise infor ation can be found
in chapters 3, 7, and 11.

1. Radio technology
Cutting edge chronography.
5,000 years have now passed since the advent of chronography. Start ing
with sundials and water clocks, advancing to echanical clocks in the 13th
century and then followed by quartz watches, chronography has now cul i-
nated in the radio-controlled watches by Junghans.
Radio-controlled watches by Junghans are always accurate and never require
adjust ent if reception conditions are adequate. Junghans radio-controlled
watches are perfectly accurate because they are linked to the ost accurate
clocks in the world by radio signals.
In Europe, this is the caesiu clock of the Ger an National Metrology
Institute (Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt, PTB) in Braunschweig.
In North A erica, this is the caesiu clock of the U.S. Depart ent of
Co erce, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in
Boulder, Colorado.
In Japan this is the caesiu clock of the National Institute for Infor ation
and Co unication Technology, an association of the govern ent office.
Your Junghans Mega 1000 radio-controlled watch is able to auto atically
receive the radio signals of the following ti e signal trans itter stations:
– DCF77 in Mainflingen (24k south-east of Frankfurt a Main) for Europe,
– WWVB in Fort Collins, Colorado (USA) for North America
– JJY40 on Mount Ohtakadoya (near Tokyo in north-east Japan) for Japan
– JJY60 on Mount Hagane (in south-west Japan) for Japan,
the East coast of China (Shanghai),
for South Korea and parts of Taiwan.

This eans that within range of one of these 4 trans itter stations your
Junghans Mega 1000 will display the exact ti e when reception conditions
are adequate.
Junghans radio-controlled wristwatches auto atically synchronise the sel-
ves every day with the DCF77, WWVB, JJY40 and JJY60 ti e signal trans itters.
If your Junghans Mega 1000 radio- controlled watch is unable to receive a sig-
nal due to interference (e.g. thunder stor s, electronic devices, lighting di -
er switches) it will auto atically atte pt to receive a signal the following
day at the sa e ti e.
The ti e can also be synchronised anually by calling a trans itter e.g. fro
a place with better reception.
The ost recent ti e infor ation received is stored in an internal ti e e o-
ry. This ti e is then kept by a high-precision 32 kHz quartz oscillator until the
next ti e your watch is synchronised.
The radio-controlled ti e synchronisation function of your Junghans Mega
1000 radio-controlled watch not only ensures total ti e accuracy, but also
auto atically switches (at night) fro winter ti e to daylight saving ti e
(Europe and North A erica) and vice-versa when reception is available.
The Junghans Mega 1000 ti e zone adjust ent function enables you to set
your watch to the relevant local ti e when travelling in countries in other ti e
zones.
2. Operational requirements
Make sure that the battery has enough power to ensure the continuous
operation of your watch.
The watch regularly checks whether sufficient battery power is available. If the
battery is low on power (e pty battery or low a bient te perature affecting
battery perfor ance) then a battery indicator appears in the LCD display. If the
battery does not recover (e.g. due to higher a bient te perature) you should
bring the watch to your specialist retailer or send it to the Junghans Service
Center within a few weeks to have the battery replaced.
Battery type: CR 1620 – average service life: approx. 2 years
Please ensure that the battery is disposed of appropriately and in accordance
with the legal regulations.

3. Automatic time synchronisation
The fully auto atic ti e synchronisation takes place daily using the DCF77
(Europe) trans itter with CET (Central European Ti e) at both 2:00 und 3:00
hours, as well as CEST (Central European Su er Ti e) at 3:00 und 4:00
hours depending on the current local ti e. With the trans itter WWVB
(North A erica) and JJY40 respectively JJY60 (Japan) at 2:00 and at 3:00 hours
depending on the current local ti e.
The display switches itself off auto atically when the auto atic synchronisa-
tion co ences. The display will re ain switched off for the whole of the syn-
chronisation period ( axi u 9 inutes) or until the procedure is anually
discontinued. The auto atic ti e synchronisation procedure can be disconti-
nued with the use of the T1 button. With the use of one of the buttons ranging
fro T2 to T5, it is possible to display the current ti e during the synchroni-
sing procedure by keeping the button depressed or, by pressing the T5 lighting
button which will display the ti e for the duration of the illu ination. Hereby,
the current hour, inutes and seconds as well as weekday, day, onth and
year will be displayed.
The date is also auto atically adjusted by the ti e signal, and this function
also takes 29 February into consideration during leap years.
If, within a 24-hour period, all atte pts to receive a signal fail to correctly syn-
chronise the watch, the reception indicator increases by 1 point (see chapter 6,
”Description of the reception indicator ode”). The indicator increases by 1
point for every further day that a signal is not successfully received. On days
when the watch has not been synchronised ti e is kept with the accuracy of
a quartz watch using the internal ti e e ory. The watch will be synchroni-
sed as soon as a signal is successfully received.
Recommendation: The best conditions for reception of the ti e signal at night
exist when the watch is not being worn and is not placed near to electronic
devices, obile telephones or cordless telephones.
4. Functions
The Junghans Mega 1000 has a variety of functions that are shown in the
display. The watch is operated using the five buttons above and below the
display as well as on the side of the watch (the button desig nations are shown
in the overview located in the foldout front cover).
4.1 Time display modes
The following five ti e display odes are available.
In these odes the watch cannot be adjusted using the T1 or T2 buttons. Only
T3 (to switch between Ti e, Stopwatch, Countdown Ti er and Alar odes)
and T4 (to select ti e display ode) are active so that the watch settings can-
not be accidentally changed.

For the USA’s WWVB time signal transmitter the following specific feature
applies:
After a successful trans itter call or restart, your Junghans Mega 1000
always reads in Pacific Standard Ti e. Due to the non-unifor changeover
fro su er to winter ti e and the differing ti e zones in the individual
US states, you are given the opportunity to adjust winter ti e, su er ti e
and ti e zone settings (see 8.1) anually. If, due to where you are, the ti e
zone or su er / winter ti e that you have set differs fro PST, it is never-
theless retained during any subsequent trans itter call or auto atic syn-
chronisation.

4.2 Additional functions
The following functions can be selected one after the other using the T3
button.
– Stopwatch with split function and split-ti e e ory (chrono)
– Countdown ti er
– Alar

The na e of the ode that is currently in use is highlighted on the display
with a border. The ode display bar at the botto of the LCD changes when
the ode is changed. The upper area of the LCD shows the function
corresponding to the ode that is selected.
The display languages available include Ger an, English and French. Setting
the language is described in chapter 9.1
The selected ti e display ode does not change until another ode is
selected by pressing the T3 button.

When the stopwatch is running, pressing T2 shows
the split ti e. These are shown in the upper part of
the display. Pressing T2 again shows additional split
ti es. The last ten split ti es are always saved. The
stopwatch continues to run when split ti es are
being shown.
After pressing T4 to stop the stopwatch, the split
ti es that were saved can be shown by pressing T2.
5. Description of the functions and their operation
5.1 Stopwatch with split function (chrono)
Press T3 until CHRONO ode is selected. The display
shows hours, inutes, seconds, tenths of a second
and hundredths of a second.
T4 is used to start and to stop the stopwatch. When
the stopwatch is running the tag ”ON” appears
above the CHRONO enu ite .
Pressing T1 resets the counter to 00:00:00.00 and
erases any split ti es that have been saved. The
stopwatch can only be reset if it is not running.

5.2 Countdown timer
Press T3 until TIMER ode is selected.
The ti er is set using T1 (set+) and T2 (set–). Press
the button briefly to adjust the ti e by the second. If
you hold the button down the ti e changes quickly.
The countdown ti er is started/stopped with the T4
button. When the countdown ti er is running the
tag ”ON” appears above the TIMER enu ite in the
display.
When the countdown ti er reaches 00:00:00 an
acoustic signal sounds.

5.3 Alarm
Press T3 until ALARM ode is selected.
The alar ti e is set using T1 (set+) and T2 (set–).
When the buttons are pressed briefly the ti e chan-
ges by the inute, but if the button is held down the
ti e changes quickly.
When the alar ti e is adjusted the alar is auto-
atically activated. The tag ”ON” appears in the
display.
The alar is activated or deactivated using the T4
button. When the alar is active the tag ”ON” appe-
ars above the ALARM enu ite in the display.
When the ti e that the alar is set to is reached an
acoustic signal sounds.

Your Mega 1000 provides you with the option of setting the alar as a daily
repeating alar (24h alar ) or as a single alar .
Proceed as follows to set the type of alar :
Make sure that your Mega 1000 is in ALARM ode. If
this is shown in the display, press button T1 (set+)
and T2 (set-) at the sa e ti e to start adjusting the
alar ode. Now press the T1 (set+) or T2 (set-) but-
ton, to select the desired alar ode. The selected
alar ode is displayed in the upper section of the
display, SET AL 24 for the daily repeating alar and
SET AL – for the one-off single alar .
After you have selected the desired alar ode, press the T4 button to return
to setting the alar ti e.
The alar can be switched off by pressing any button.
Preferably the T5 button should be used for this in order to avoid accidentally
altering the settings.
After the alar has sounded it is no longer active and the ”ON” tag disappears.
If you want the alar to sound again, set the desired ti e as described above
and reactivate the alar .

6. Reception indicator
The reception indicator shows whether the watch has been synchronised with
the signals fro the trans itter stations.
Make sure that one of the five ti e display odes is shown in the display and
if this is not the case, press T3 until one of the ti e display odes is shown.
Press T4 until the reception indicator is shown (ti e display ode 5: ti e,
trans itter indicator and reception indicator).
If the reception indicator reads 0 then the watch was properly synchronised
during the previous night. The nu bers 1-9 show the nu ber of days in which
watch has not been auto atically synchronised due to poor reception. The
indicator returns to 0 the next ti e the signal is successfully received.
7. Manual Synchronisation (Calling the transmitter)
In the various ti e display odes, it is possible to
carry out a anual synchronisation or so called
trans itter call.
For this purpose press the T1 button for a period lon-
ger than 3 seconds. The display switches itself off
auto atically when the synchronisation co en-
ces. The display will re ain switched off for the
whole of the synchronisation period ( axi u
14 inutes) or until the procedure is anually
discontinued.

The anual ti e synchronisation procedure can be discontinued with the
use of the T1 button. With the use of one of the buttons ranging fro T2 to T5,
it is possible to display the current ti e during the synchronising procedure
by keeping the button depressed or, by pressing the T5 lighting button which
will display the ti e for the duration of the illu ination. Hereby, the current
hour, inutes and seconds as well as weekday, day, onth and year will be
displayed. Please ake sure that during reception the watch is held steady or
put aside.
When the watch has received the ti e signal (after approxi ately 3 – 14
inutes), the display will auto atically show the ti e received fro the
trans itter in the previous ode.
Your Junghans Mega 1000 first atte pts to receive a signal fro the trans-
itter station it last used to carry out a synchronisation. If the watch cannot
receive a signal fro this trans itter station then it atte pts to receive a sig-
nal fro the other trans itter stations. The trans itter station that the
watch is currently trying to reach is shown in the display. If a anual syn-
chronisation is carried out successfully, the reception indicator resets itself to
0. However, if the trans ission call is unsuccessful the reception indicator
does not change and the display returns to the ti e and ode that were acti-
ve before the trans ission call was carried out.
If you have selected a different ti e zone to the one received fro the trans-
itter station then the anually selected ti e is verified. In this case only
inutes and seconds are synchronised.
If a signal is received fro a different trans itter station to the one last used
for synchronisation then the ti e zone that is currently selected is retained
and the inutes and seconds are synchronised.
The current local ti e is set using the ti e zone adjust ent function (see
chapter 8.1 – ”ti e zone adjust ent”).
The following ti e zones are received fro the trans itter stations:

8. Time zone adjustment/ 12-24 hour display / home time
8.1 Time zone adjustment
The Junghans Mega 1000 can receive ti e signals fro the DCF77, WWVB,
JJY40 and JJY60 trans itter stations. This eans that the watch will reliably
show daylight saving or winter ti e (except WWVB – see section 3) within the
trans ission zones. If you are travelling to a country in a different ti e zone,
you can either set the watch to display the local ti e of that country as the 2nd
ti e in the upper part of the display (see chapter 10 – ”2nd ti e”) and/or set
the ain ti e display to show the local ti e.

Press T4 until ti e display is selected (ti e display
ode 1). The display shows the ti e. T4 is used to
adjust the ti e zone. When the ti e zone is adju-
sted the ain ti e display changes to show the ti e
in this ti e zone. Press T4 for ore than 3 seconds.
The upper part of the display shows ”1. TIME”, the
hour figure flashes and can be adjusted by the hour
using T1 (set+) and T2 (set–). Where necessary the
date is auto atically adjusted at the sa e ti e.
To reset the ain ti e to your ho e ti e (see chapter 8.3 ”ho e ti e”), press
T2 for ore than 3 seconds when in one of the 5 ti e display odes. The ain
ti e display then shows the selected ho e ti e again. If the ho e ti e has
not been set anually then the ti e zone of the trans ission station that was
last used for synchronisation is shown.
8.2 12-24 hour display
Press T4 once the desired ti e zone has been set.
You can now choose between the 12-hour ti e
display (a /p ) and the 24-hour ti e display.
The upper part of the display shows the display
ode that is currently selected and this can be
changed using T1 (set+) and T2 (set–).

8.3 Home time
Once the desired 12-24 hour ti e display ode has
been set, press T4 to adjust the ho e ti e setting.
This setting enables you to set the ho e ti e. This
should correspond to the ti e zone where you
spend ost of your ti e and can be adjusted using
T1 (set+) and T2 (set–).
Press T4 to return to the nor al ti e display ode.
9. Language selection (weekday indicator and date display)
The language of the weekday indicator of your Junghans Mega 1000 has been
set to Ger an at the factory. The language can be set to English or French in
the ti e/date display odes (ti e display ode 2 or 3).
9.1 Language selection
To change the weekday indicator to another langua-
ge press T4 until the ti e/date ode is selected
(ti e display ode 2 or 3). The display shows the
ti e and date. Press T4
for longer than 3 seconds to change the language.
The letter in the upper part of the display flashes
and shows the selected language (D for Ger an, F
for French, E for English). This can be changed using
T1 (set+) or T2 (set–).

9.2 Date display
The date can be displayed either in day- onth for-
at or in onth-day for at. Press T4 to set the date
for at.
The date for at flashes in the upper part of the
display (TA.MO. or MO.TA – Ger an, DA.MO or
MO.DA. – English and JO.MO or MO.JO – French)
This can be changed using T1 (set+) or T2 (set–).
Press T4 to return to the nor al display ode.

10. 2nd Time
The 2nd ti e function enables you to show an additional ti e in the display
that is independent of the ain ti e (e.g. when you want to see your ho e
ti e whilst holidaying in another ti e zone).
Make sure that one of the five ti e display odes is shown in the display and
if this is not the case, press T3 until one of the ti e display odes is shown.
Press T4 until the ti e display ode ”2nd TIME” is
selected.
Then press T4 for ore than 3 seconds.
The 2nd ti e display flashes and can be adjusted in
15- inute steps using T1 (set+) and T2 (set–).
Afterwards, press the T4 button to return to the nor-
al display.

11. Restart / Starting up procedure
After changing the battery, a restart is auto atically
carried out. After the battery has been inserted the
indicator for the trans itter currently being sear-
ched for will flash and the signal controlled second
indicator will be displayed. All other displays will
re ain switched off for the duration of the synchro-
nisation. The watch will start with the reception.
After a few inutes, the watch, after successfully
receiving a signal, will auto atically set itself to the
correct ti e zone of the selected trans itter.
xIf signals fro DCF77 have been successfully received, Ger an local ti e
will be displayed. The trans itter indi cator then shows DCF77, the date will
be shown with the weekday in Ger an in day- onth for at and the ti e
will be displayed in 24-hour for at.
xIf signals fro WWVB have been successfully received, the current Pacific
Ti e will be displayed. The trans itter indicator then shows WWVB, the
date will be shown with the weekday in English in onth-day for at and
the ti e will be displayed in 12-hour for at.
xIf signals fro JJY40 or JJY60 have been successfully re ceived, Japanese
local ti e will be displayed. The trans itter indicator then shows JJY40 or
JJY60, the date will be shown with the weekday in English in day- onth for-
at and the ti e will be displayed in 24-hour for at.

If the watch does not successfully receive a sig-
nal for a long period of ti e then the reception
process is stopped to save battery power. How -
ever, the watch still akes an atte pt to receive
a ti e signal every 6 hours. The trans itter indi-
cator then reads ”---” and the reception indicator
shows ”1”. The watch continues to show the
unsynchronised ti e in the display.
In order to show the correct current ti e until a signal is received, the
watch ust be anually set to the current ti e ( anual start). Your
watch then operates like a nor al quartz watch.
If you switch to set ode (see chapter 12 – ”Manual start”) while auto-
atic signal reception is taking place then the auto atic reception pro-
cess is stopped.
12. Manual start
The watch can be anually started after an
unsuccessful restart. To do this, press the T4
button to cancel the auto atic reception pro-
cess. Then press the T4 button again for ore
than 3 seconds to enter anual start ode.

When the watch is in anual start ode the settings that need to be adju-
sted (hour, inute, second, 12-24 hour display, language, date display ode,
year, onth and day) flash one after the other in the display.
When the hour is flashing it can be set to the correct
value using T1 (set+) and T2 (set–).
After setting the hour press T4 to set the inutes
using T1 (set+) and T2 (set–). Press T4 again to select
the seconds indicator, and then press T1 or T2 to
reset the second counter to zero.
The watch ust be synchronised anually with another ti e source (watch,
clock etc.) Press T4 to ove fro one setting to the next. Proceed to set the
value in the sa e anner as before. Once you have correctly adjusted all set-
tings press T4 to confir and the display will change back to ti e display
ode.

13. Illumination
Your Junghans Mega 1000 is equipped with a display light. Press T5 to activa-
te the light, which stays on for 4 seconds. After 4 seconds the light goes out in
order to save battery power and reduce energy wastage when the light is acti-
vated accidentally.
The light can then be re activated by pressing T5
again.

14. Button lock
To prevent unintentional adjust ent of the display, your Mega 1000 has a
function that allows you to lock the operating buttons. This function is avai-
lable in every ti e display ode (see chapter 4.1).
Proceed as follows to activate or deactivate the button lock:
Press the T5 button for ore than 4 seconds. The
CHRONO, TIMER and ALARM sy bols disappear
fro the display. The button lock is now activa-
ted.
To deactivate, repeat the sa e procedure.
If a button is pressed when the button lock is
active, the sy bol ”Lo” for Lock appears in the
display.
15. Adjusting the contrast of the digital display
To ensure that the digital display is as clear as possible, your Mega 1000 has a
function that allows you to anually change the contrast of the display. If the
contrast needs to be adjusted, proceed as follows: First check whether your
Mega 1000 is in one of the 5 ti e display odes. If this is not the case, press
the T3 button until the current ti e is shown in the display. Now press the T1
and T2 buttons at the sa e ti e for ore than 8 seconds. The tag ”CON 2”
appears in the display. The contrast can now be changed using the T1 (set+)
and T2 (set-) buttons. To set the contrast to the axi u level, press the T1
button until ”CON 15” is displayed. To set the contrast to the ini u level,
press the T2 button until ”CON 0” is displayed. After you have set the desired
contrast level, press the T4 button to return to the nor al display.
Note: The higher the setting, the greater the power consu ption.

17. General information
External influences can affect the watch’s waterproof qualities, which ay

the sa e quality, preferably an original Junghans wrist strap. Watch and wrist
strap can be cleaned with a dry or slightly oistened cloth.
