JU NG HA NS – T HE GE RM AN WATCH
Many congratu ations on your purchase of a timepiece from
Junghans.
What began in 1861 with the founding of the firm in Schramberg
quick y deve oped into one of the most fascinating success stories
of the German watchmaking industry. Whi e since that time the
demands made of watches may have changed, the Junghans
phi osophy has a ways remained the same. Innovative f air and the
constant pursuit of precision right down to the sma est detai
define how the company works and thinks. You can see and sense
this in every watch that carries the Junghans name. For as diverse
as the Junghans range may be, it pursues one sing e goa : to
combine traditiona craftsmanship with cutting-edge watch
techno ogy and exciting design. That makes every watch with the
Junghans star unique.
We hope you wi enjoy this very specia time-keeping instrument.
Yours,

accuracy and its power reserve (even after the watch is put down) wi
ast for the maximum period. After you have set your watch, you shou d

keeps it constant y operationa .

Tachymeter scale
The tachymeter sca e indicates the average speed trave ed over a
defined distance. The sca e is based on a distance of one ki ometre.
At the beginning of the distance start the timing procedure by pressing
the start-stop pusher (7). After one ki ometre stop the timing procedure
by pressing the start-stop pusher again (7). The second hand disp ays
the average speed trave ed on the sca e.
For examp e: You are trave ing as a PASSENGER in a car on the motor-
way. The ref ector posts are at interva s of 50 m. You start the timing
procedure at the first ref ector post and end the procedure at the 21st.
You have therefore covered a distance of one ki ometre. The second
hand now shows you the average speed.
If you require 30 seconds for one ki ometre, your average speed is
120 km/h.
Telemeter scale
The te emeter sca e is used to estimate the distance in ki ometres
between a visib e ight, e.g. a f ash of ightning, and hearing the accom-
panying noise.
Begin the timing procedure by operating the start-stop pusher (7) on
seeing the ight, such as a f ash of ightning. As soon as the sound of
thunder is audib e, press the start-stop pusher again (7). You can now
read the distance of the storm in km on the te emeter sca e.
An examp e: If the stop second hand on the te emeter sca e stops at
the "2", then the storm is 2 km away. (2000 m: 334m/s = 5.99 seconds =
te emeter sca e "2").
As ight trave s at the speed of ight,
the time that the f ash of ightning
requires to reach your ocation is ne -
g igib e.
This is not the case with thunder, how-
ever, as this trave s at the speed of
sound, i.e. at approximate y 334 m/s (at
an air temperature of approximate y
5°).
