ISTRUZIONI PER LA SICUREZZA
ISTRUZIONI RIGUARDANTI IL RISCHIO DI INCENDIO, SCOSSE ELETTRICHE O DANNO ALLE PERSONE.
Avvertenza: per ridurre il rischio di incendio o scosse elettriche, non esporre lo strumento
alla pioggia o umidità.
- Istruzioni per la messa a terra -
Il prodotto deve essere collegato ad una presa di terra. In caso di guasti la messa a terra
riduce il rischio di scosse elettriche. Lo strumento è dotato di un cavo di alimentazione con
una spina predisposta alla messa a terra che deve essere collegata ad una presa ugualmente
predisposta.
PERICOLO - Collegamenti errati della messa a terra possono provocare scosse elettriche. Nel
dubbio fate verificare il Vostro impianto elettrico da un elettricista qualificato. Non modificate
il cavo di alimentazione in dotazione.
ISTRUZIONI IMPORTANTI PER LA SICUREZZA E L’INSTALLAZIONE
AVVERTENZA - Usando prodotti elettrici, dovete seguire alcune precauzioni di base tra cui le seguenti:
• Prima di usare lo strumento leggete attentamente il manuale.
•Quando lo strumento viene usato da bambini è necessaria la presenza di un
adulto.
•Non usate lo strumento in ambienti dove può essere soggetto a stillicidio o spruzzi d’acqua, come
per esempio accanto ad un lavandino, una piscina, su una superficie bagnata etc., e non appoggiate
sopra lo strumento recipienti contenenti liquidi che potrebbero penetrare al suo interno.
•Lo strumento deve essere usato solo su un supporto raccomandato dal costruttore.
•Non operate per lunghi periodi ad alto volume: il rumore eccessivo è dannoso per la salute.
•Lo strumento deve essere dislocato in modo da consentirne una adeguata ventilazione.
•Lo strumento deve essere dislocato lontano da sorgenti di calore come termosifoni, stufe etc.
•Lo strumento deve essere collegato alla rete elettrica solo usando il cavo in dotazione. I dati di
identificazione e di alimentazione sono dietro lo strumento.
•Quando lo strumento non viene usato per lunghi periodi il cavo di alimentazione deve essere
disconnesso.
•In caso di necessità, per disconnettere lo strumento dell’alimentazione azionate l’interruttore che si
trova nella parte posteriore. Lo strumento deve essere posizionato in maniera tale che l’interruttore
sia facilmente accessibile.
•Lo strumento deve essere portato presso un centro assistenza se:
a. Il cavo di alimentazione o la presa sono danneggiati.
b. All’interno sono caduti degli oggetti o del liquido.
c. è stato esposto alla pioggia.
d. Non sembra funzionare normalmente o dimostra un evidente calo di prestazioni.
e. è caduto o lo chassis è danneggiato.
•Non tentate di riparare da soli lo strumento; qualsiasi operazione deve essere eseguita da
personale specializzato.

COME OVVIARE L’INTERFERENZA ALLA RADIO/TV
Questostrumentofunzionanella bandadelle radio frequenzee se non si installacorrettamente
ed in stretta osservanza delle istruzioni può causare interferenza alla ricezione di apparecchi
radiotelevisivi. Sebbene la progettazione sia stata effettuata secondo le norme vigenti ed
abbia previsto ragionevoli protezioni contro tali inconvenienti, non vi sono garanzie un simile
evento non può verificarsi. Per verificare che l’interferenza viene generata proprio dallo
strumento, provate a spegnerlo e controllate se l’interferenza scompare. Poi riaccendetelo
e verificate se l’interferenza si ripresenta. Una volta verificato che lo strumento è la causa
dell’interferenza, adottate una delle seguenti misure:
•Orientate l’antenna del ricevitore radio o TV.
•Dislocate diversamente lo strumento rispetto al ricevitore radio o TV.
•Allontanate lo strumento dal ricevitore.
•Collegate la spina dello strumento ad un’altra presa in modo che strumento e ricevitore
siano collegati a due circuiti diversi.
•Se necessario, consultate personale specializzato.
ALIMENTAZIONE
•Quando si collega lo strumento ad altre apparecchiature (amplificatore, mixer, altri
strumenti MIDI, ecc.), assicurateVi che tutte le unità siano spente.
•Leggete i consigli riguardanti l’interferenza alle Radio e TV.
CURA DELLO STRUMENTO
•Le superficie esterne dello strumento debbono essere pulite soltanto con un panno
morbido ed asciutto. Non usate mai, benzina diluenti o solventi in genere.
ALTRE PRECAUZIONI
Sevoleteusarelostrumentoinun paeseestero,edavetedei dubbiriguardantel’alimentazione,
consultate precedentemente un tecnico qualificato.
Lo strumento non deve essere mai soggetto a forti scosse.
ADATTATORI DI CORRENTE AC
Per collegare questi strumenti alla presa della rete elettrica, usare esclusivamente l’adattatore di
corrente alternata KETRON fornito con lo strumento stesso. L’uso di altri adattatori per corrente
alternata potrebbe comportare danni nei circuiti di alimentazione dello strumento. È pertanto di
primaria importanza usare gli adattatori originali e chiedere del tipo giusto se doveste riordinarlo.
INFORMAZIONE AGLI UTENTI
“Attuazione delle Direttive 2002/95/CE, 2002/96/CE e 2003/108/CE, relative alla riduzione dell’uso di
sostanze pericolose nelle apparecchiature elettriche ed elettroniche, nonchè allo smaltimento dei rifiuti”
Il simbolo del cassonetto barrato riportato sull’apparecchiatura indica che il prodotto alla
fine della propria vita utile deve essere raccolto separatamente dagli altri rifiuti. L’utente
dovrà pertanto, conferire l’apparecchiatura giunta a fine vita agli idonei centri di raccolta
differenziata dei rifiuti elettronici ed elettrotecnici, oppure riconsegnarla al rivenditore al
momento dell’acquisto di una nuova apparecchiatura di tipo ecquivalente,
in ragione di uno a uno. L’adeguata raccolta differenziata per l’avvio
successivo dell’apparecchiatura dismessa al riciclaggio, al trattamento e allo
smaltimento ambientale compatibile contribuisce ad evitare possibili effetti
negativi sull’ambiente e sulla salute e favorisce il riciclo dei materiali di cui
è composta l’apparecchiatura. Lo smaltimento abusivo del prodotto da parte
dell’utente comporta l’applicazione delle sanzioni amministrative previste.

INTRODUZIONE
Grazie per aver scelto il nuovo KETRON SD 2 Orchestral Wizard.
L’ SD 2 rappresenta un’interessante integrazione nel settore dei moduli sonori in termini di
compattezza e di prestazionali musicali. Infatti, oltre a disporre di tutte le sonorità timbriche
necessarie per un’ottima riproduzione dei files musicali in formato General Midi standard
e Kar, l’SD2 possiede anche ulteriori Banchi suono aggiuntivi con una incredibile varietà
di Voci orchestrali: Grand Piano Stereo su 88 note, Chitarre acustiche ed elettriche, Brass
e Sassofoni di qualità unica, Organi campionati e sezione Digital Drawbars, Fisarmoniche,
Bassi, Strings, Drum Sets acustici ed elettronici etc.. Inoltre l’SD2 è provvisto di una notevole
quantità di Loops audio di Batteria e Percussioni suddivisi nei più diversi generi musicali, i
quali certamente differenziano l’SD2 da tutti gli altri moduli similari del mercato. L’SD 2 trova
il top delle sue applicazioni in abbinamento ad un player MIDI (come ad es. KETRON MIDJAY)
o a sequencers su computer (Logic® , Cubase® , Cakewalk® e altri), ma può essere collegato
anche a Master keyboards o Tastiere multi-purpose (Arranger , Synth , Digital pianos etc.).
Prima di utilizzare il Vs SD 2, leggete accuratamente tutte le istruzioni per ottenere il meglio
delle prestazioni e per una lunga durata dello strumento.
Conservate questo manuale in luogo sicuro per ulteriori future consultazioni.
CONTENUTO DEL PACKAGE
Il package originale del Vs. SD 2 contiene il seguente materiale :
a) SD 2
b) Manuale d’utilizzo
c) Alimentatore DC 12 Volts
Optional : Cavo Midi to USB. Sarà indispensabile per l’utilizzo di SD 2 con un Laptop per il fatto
che appunto i computer portatili non dispongono di propria interfaccia Midi ( se non nel caso
di schede aggiunte quali Firewire , USB etc) .
Questo cavo permetterà attraverso la connessione USB la comunicazione dei dati midi dal
vostro computer portatile al midi In del SD 2 .
ACCENSIONE
Per accendere SD 2 basta collegare alla rete l’alimentatore in dotazione. Il led sul pannello
frontale visualizza l’immediata operatività dello strumento.
1 On / Off: Interruttore generale dell’SD 2.
Il led acceso indica che lo strumento è in
funzione. In caso di attività Midi in ingresso il
led lampeggerà.
2 Volume: Controllo a slider per il volume
generale dell’SD 2 . Questo volume agisce anche
sull’uscita Headphone.
3 Headphone: Connessione per cuffia stereo a
bassa impedenza .

CONNESSIONI
4 Midi In / Thru: Connessione Midi In e Thru di SD2. Collegare il Midi In di SD2 al Midi out
del computer, del Midi player o della Master keyboard. La connessione Thru va usata per
rilanciare la copia del Midi In ad altro dispositivo (ad es. Expander).
5 Out L / R: Uscite audio Left e Right da collegare al mixer o amplificatore audio.
6 Power Dc In: Connessione per l’alimentatore DC 12 V di SD 2.
CONSIGLI SULL’UTILIZZAZIONE
In questo paragrafo vogliamo suggerirVi come pensiamo vada utilizzato l’SD2 per offrirVi il
meglio delle sue possibilità nelle applicazioni musicali.
HOME STUDIO (con computer , sequencer o players esterni)
In questo contesto l’SD2 può esprimere davvero il massimo delle sue potenzialità.
Può essere collegato al vostro computer ( Pc o Mac ) tramite il cavo Midi ( se disponete già di
una scheda con interfaccia Midi ) oppure tramite il cavo Midi to Usb fornito come accessorio
opzionale da KETRON. Utilizzando programmi di sequencer musicale come Cubase®, Logic®,
Cakewalk® o simili) sarete in grado di inserire con successo l’SD2 nelle Vs. elaborazioni
musicali (Midi files, Jingles, Mix Audio etc.) sfruttando la meglio la sua grande versatilità
sonora.
Nel Vs. SD2, oltre ai timbri che ormai fanno parte
dei riferimenti Standard (GM) troverete altri
Sound Banks con molte sonorità caratteristiche
nelle famiglie tradizionali (Pianoforti , Strings,
Sax,Brass etc).Ma sicuramente la caratteristica
checontraddistinguel’SD2daaltrimodulisonori
è data dalla presenza degli innumerevoli Loops
audio (Drum Loops scaricabili gratuitamente
dal sito www.ketron.it).
Immaginate di inserire questi Loops nulle Vs
creazioni musicali…essi possono arricchire,
se non addirittura sostituire, la ritmica dei Vs.
brani e potrebbero fare la differenza con tutto
quello che avete elaborato finora nell’ambito
dei Midi files !
Solo un piccolo esempio. Immaginate un Midi file di musica caraibica, dove spesso siamo
abituati ad ascoltare parti di percussioni latine poco convincenti. Applichiamo alcuni dei
Pattern disponibili nel data base dei Loops in aggiunta (o meglio in sostituzione) della traccia

Drum esistente (Copy & Paste). Con pochissime operazioni saremo in grado di sostituire la
struttura ritmica Midi con Loops audio e il risultato sarà sorprendente .
Naturalmente una volta che il Vs file musicale sarà completato, salvandolo nel formato a voi
più congeniale, avrete la possibilità di riprodurlo con qualsiasi sequencer o Midi player (ad es.
MIDJAY o simile) collegandolo al Vs. SD2.
L’utilizzo del laptop si fa sempre più presente nel mondo dell’entertainment musicale per la
riproduzione dei Midi files. Ma spesso il vantaggio di avere una scheda musicale integrata nel
computer viene penalizzato dal fatto che tali schede dispongono di pochi suoni e di modesta
qualità. Anche in questo caso pensiamo che l’utilizzo dell’SD2, in sostituzione delle schede
interne, possa costituire una notevole opportunità.
TASTIERA MIDI (Master keyboard , Arranger , Fisarmonica etc.)
L’SD 2 può essere utilizzato come modulo supplementare per arricchire la tavolozza timbrica
della Vs. tastiera.
Altrettanto indicata è l’accoppiata di SD 2 con Master keyboards non provviste di suoni o con
le attuali mini remote keyboards ( tastiere multimediali ) sempre più spesso utilizzate nel
live set. Pensiamo che un modulo sonoro cosi’ potente e di dimensioni così contenute possa
sicuramente entrare a far parte del Vs set up musicale.
NOTE SUL FUNZIONAMENTO / TEMPLATES
Come avrete già notato l’SD 2 si presenta con le connessioni esterne (descritte in precedenza),
e con un unico controllo di Volume generale per le Uscite posteriori e per la Cuffia.
Ovviamente tutti gli altri interventi che possono determinare una modifica del Timbro, del
Volume, del Riverbero, degli Effetti etc. devono avvenire tramite messaggi MIDI.
Per coloro che sono già a conoscenza di questo tipo di Editing sarà sufficiente osservare la
tabella delle IMPLEMENTAZIONI MIDI dell’SD2 per poter gestire i Suoni dello strumento in
tutte le sue potenzialità.
Per quelli un po’ meno esperti abbiamo messo a disposizione nel sito www.ketron.it ( scaricabili
gratuitamente ) una serie di files ( TEMPLATES ) con la configurazione della Mappa dei suoni
che si possono utilizzare lavorando con i più conosciuti programmi di sequencer e notazione
musicale : Logic® , Cubase® , Cakewalk® .
COME UTILIZZARE I DRUM LOOPS
La Libreria necessaria per poter gestire tutti i Loops ritmici Audio di cui è dotato l’SD2 può
essere scaricata liberamente dal sito www.ketron.it .
I files si presentano con una serie di Folders (cartelle) catalogati per tipologia musicale (Salsa,
Cha , Merengue , Jazz etc.).
Si tratta in definitiva di Midi files contenenti le informazioni per eseguire i Pattern ritmici dei
vari Loops contenuti nella generazione sonora dell’SD2.
Per avere un idea più chiara delle possibilità sonore che questi Loops offrono vi suggeriamo di
ascoltare i Demo .mid contenuti nelle cartelle di riferimento delle diverse Cadenze musicali.
Vi ricordiamo che questi pattern hanno all’interno tutte le informazioni necessarie (Program
Change, Volume etc.) per essere eseguiti immediatamente senza ulteriori impostazioni .

SEZIONE DRAWBARS
La generazione suono dell’SD 2 dispone anche di una sezione di Drawbars digitali, ispirati alle
sonorità degli organi elettromagnetici : 16’, 8’, 5’1/3, 4’, 2’2/3, 2’, 1’3/5,1’. Percussion 4’ e 2’2/3.
I Drawbars possono suonare su qualsiasi canale midi (e anche su più canali midi
contemporaneamente). Utilizzando l’ambiente creato appositamente per Logic ® (caricabile
gratuitamente dal sito www.ketron.it ) è possibile suonare tutti i Drawbars digitali grazie agli
sliders virtuali riprodotti su questo ambiente.
Ecco come si presenta l’editor creato su Logic®
Diversamente, se non utilizzerete questo
ambiente, potrete richiamare i vari Drawbars
inviando all’ SD 2 i relativi controllers descritti
nel paragrafo Midi Implementation.
Ad esempio:
Il Drawbars 16’ si ottiene inviando all’SD 2 la
seguente stringa di controller:
Bank 67, Program Change 0, Controller 20 (con
valore 0/127 relativo al volume del drawbar stesso) .
Nella sezione MIDI IMPLEMENTATION troverete pure tutte le informazioni necessarie per
poter modificare i Drawbars e i loro relativi effetti applicabili (Rotary, Chorus, Reverb etc).
STEREO GRAND PIANO
L’ SD 2 dispone di un suono professionale di Grand Piano Stereo su 88 note (predisposto come
suono di default all’accensione dello strumento - Progr. Change 01).
La disponibilità di un suono Grand Piano di questa qualità può risultare estremamente utile
nel caso di collegamento con Master Keyboard.
ALTRE CARATTERISTICHE
Per chi ha già avuto modo di lavorare con moduli suono multi timbrici sarà familiare sapere
che la dotazione dei DSP (effetti e post trattamento sonoro) è parte integrante di questi
sistemi che vanno utilizzati attraverso i vari controllers e / o Sys Exclusive.
Tuttavia riteniamo interessante aggiungere che oltre alle tipiche sezioni di Reverb, Chorus e
Delay troverete altri effetti DSP quali :
Rotor (per i Drawbars digitali, con controlli di Rate, Acceleration, Depth e Type )
Wha Wha (Amount . Controlla l’intensita’ dell’effetto Wha sulla traccia)
Bass Bost (Gain, Frequency . Dispositivo di potenziamento dei Bassi)
Distortion (Type , Resonance, Tone)
Nella Sezione Master Control sono inoltre previsti anche i seguenti controlli :
Tune: Controllo di accordatura generale del modulo (Data Value)
Arabic Scale: Controllo degli intervalli per la scala araba (Data Value)
Global Transposer: Trasposizione globale dello strumento (Data Value)

SICHERHEITSHINWEISE
HINWEISE AUF BRANDGEFAHR, STROMSCHLAGRISIKO UND VERLETZUNGSGEFAHR.
Achtung: um das Brand- und Stromschlagrisiko zu minimieren, ist das Instrument weder Regen noch
Feuchtigkeit auszusetzen.
- Anweisungen zur Erdung -
Das Produkt muß an eine Erdleitung angeschlossen werden. Im Falle von Defekten wird dadurch das
Stromschlagrisiko gemindert. Das Instrument wird mit einem Netzkabel geliefert, das über einen
geerdeten Stecker zum Anschluß an eine entsprechend geerdete Steckdose verfügt.
GEFAHR - Falsche Erdungsanschlüsse können Stromschläge verursachen. Im Zweifelsfall lassen Sie Ihre
elektrischen Leitungen von einem qualifizierten Fachmann überprüfen. Nehmen Sie keine Änderungen
am mitgelieferten Netzkabel vor.
WICHTIGE HINWEISE ZUR SICHERHEIT UND ZUR INSTALLATION
ACHTUNG - Beim Einsatz elektrischer Geräte sind einige grundlegenden Vorsichtsmaßnahmen
zu beachten, wie zum Beispiel:
• Bevor das Instrument verwendet wird, bitte die Bedienungsanleitung aufmerksam lesen.
•Wenn das Instrument von Kindern benutzt wird, ist die Anwesenheit eines
Erwachsenen unerläßlich.
•Das Instrument ist nicht in der Nähe von Wasser zu verwenden, wie zum Beispiel in der Nähe eines
Waschbeckens, eines Swimmingpools oder einer nassen Oberfläche.
•Das Instrument darf nur auf einem Ständer verwendet werden, der vom Hersteller empfohlen wird.
•Höhere Lautstärken sind auf Dauer zu vermeiden: ein zu hoher Schalldruckpegel wirkt
gesundheitsschädlich.
•Das Instrument muß so aufgestellt werden, daß eine ausreichende Lüftung gewährleistet ist.
• Das Instrument darf nicht in der Nähe von Wärmequellen wie Heizkörpern, Öfen etc. au gestellt werden.
•Das Instrument darf nur mit dem mitgelieferten Netzkabel an die Stromversorgung angeschlossen
werden. Die Kenn- und Versorgungsdaten befinden sich auf der unteren Seite des Instruments.
•Wenn das Instrument längere Zeit nicht verwendet wird, ist das Netzkabel herauszuziehen.
•Achten Sie darauf, daß keine Gegenstände oder Flüssigkeit ins Chassis fallen bzw. eindringen.
•Das Instrument muß zur nächsten Kundendienststelle gebracht werden, wenn:
a. das Netzkabel oder die Buchse beschädigt sind;
b. feste Gegenstände oder Flüssigkeiten ins Innere des Instruments gefallen bzw. eingedrungen sind;
c. es im Regen stand;
d. es nicht ordnungsgemäß funktioniert oder Leistungsabfälle aufweist;
e. es fallen gelassen wurde oder das Chassis beschädigt ist.
•Versuchen Sie nicht, das Instrument selbst zu reparieren; dies hat nur durch Fachpersonal zu
geschehen.
DIESE SICHERHEITSHINWEISE SIND AUFZUBEWAHREN
VORGEHENSWEISE BEI RADIO/TV – STÖRUNGEN
Dieses Instrument arbeitet innerhalb des Radiofrequenzbereichs und kann, wenn es nicht korrekt
und unter genauer Einhaltung der Anleitungen installiert wird, zu Empfangsstörungen bei Radio- und

Fernsehgeräten führen. Obwohl das Instrument den gültigen Richtlinien entsprechend geplant und
obwohl Schutzvorrichtungen vorhanden sind, besteht dennoch keine Garantie dafür, daß es zu keinen
Empfangsstörungen kommt. Um zu überprüfen, ob diese wirklich von Ihrem Instrument hervorgerufen
werden, schalten Sie es bitte ab und checken, ob die Störungen dadurch behoben werden. Dann schalten
Sie das Instrument wieder ein und prüfen, ob die Störung wieder auftritt. Nachdem festgestellt wurde,
daß die Empfangsstörungen tatsächlich von Ihrem Instrument verursacht werden, kann eine der
folgenden Maßnahmen ergriffen werden:
•Richten Sie die Empfangsantenne des Radios oder Fernsehers anders aus.
•Stellen Sie das Instrument in einer anderen Stellung gegenüber dem Radio- oder Fernsehgerät auf.
•Entfernen Sie das Instrument vom Empfänger.
•Schließen Sie das Instrument an eine andere Steckdose an, damit das Instrument und der Empfänger
an zwei verschiedenen Stromkreisen angeschlossen sind.
•Wenn notwendig, wenden Sie sich an einen Fachmann.
ANSCHLÜSSE
•SolldasInstrumentanandereGeräte(Verstärker,Mixer,andereMidi-Instrumenteetc.)angeschlossen
werden, überzeugen Sie sich davon, daß alle Geräte ausgeschaltet sind.
•Lesen Sie die Hinweise zu den Radio- und TV-Störungen.
PFLEGE DES INSTRUMENTS
•DieOberflächen des Instrumentssind nur miteinem trockenen, weichenTuch zureinigen.Verwenden
Sie niemals Benzin, Verdünner oder sonstige Lösungsmittel.
WEITERE VORSICHTSMAßNAHMEN
Wenn Sie das Instrument im Ausland verwenden wollen und Zweifel bezüglich der Netzversorgung
bestehen, wenden Sie sich bitte an einen Fachmann.
Das Instrument darf keinen Stößen ausgesetzt werden.
AC - NETZGERÄTE
Bitte verwenden Sie ausschließlich die mit den Instrumenten mit gelieferten KETRON Netzgeräte, um sie
an das Stromnetz anzuschließen. Werden andere Wechselstromnetzgeräte verwendet, so riskieren Sie
dabei, die Leistungskreise Ihres Instruments zu beschädigen. Es ist von besonderer Wichtigkeit, dass
ausschließlich Originalnetzgeräte verwendet werden und beim eventuellen Nachbestellen das richtige
Modell angegeben wird.
BENUTZERINFORMATION

Das Symbol der durchgestrichenen Mülltonne auf dem Gerät weist darauf hin, dass das Produkt am

Vielen Dank für die Wahl eines KETRON SD 2 Orchestral Wizard.
Das SD 2 stellt ein interessantes Angebot auf dem Gebiet der Klangmodule in Sachen
Kompaktheit und musikalischer Leistung dar. Neben sämtlichen für eine optimale Wiedergabe
von Musikdateien in General Midi- und Kar-Format notwendigen Sounds verfügt das SD
2 nämlich über weitere Klangbanken mit einer unglaublichen Vielfalt an Orchestersounds:
Grand Piano Stereo über 88 Noten, akustische und elektrische Gitarren, Blasinstrumente
und Saxofone von einzigartiger Qualität, gesampelte Orgeln und Digital Drawbars Section,
Akkordeons, Bässe, Saiteninstrumente, akustische und elektronische Drum Sets usw. Zudem
ist das SD 2 mit einer beachtlichen Zahl von Schlagzeug- und Schlaginstrumenten-Audio-
Loops ausgestattet, und zwar für verschiedenste Musikgenres, die das SD 2 zweifellos von
den anderen marktgängigen Modulen unterscheiden. Das SD 2 findet seine Top-Applikation in
Kombination mit einem MIDI Player (wie z.B. KETRON MIDJAY) oder einem Sequenzerprogramm
(Logic®, Cubase®, Cakewalk® und anderen), kann aber auch an Master Keyboards oder Multi-
Purpose-Klaviaturen (Arranger, Syntheziser, Digital Pianos etc.) angeschlossen werden.
Bevor Sie Ihr SD 2 in Betrieb nehmen, lesen Sie sich die Anleitung genau durch, um das Beste
aus dem Gerät zu holen und eine lange Lebensdauer sicherzustellen.

INHALT DER VERPACKUNG
Die Originalverpackung Ihres SD 2 enthält das folgende Material:
a) 1 Klangmodul SD 2

Optional : Midi-to-USB-Kabel. Dieses wird für den Einsatz des SD 2 mit einem Laptop benötigt,
weil Notebooks über keine eigene Midi-Schnittstelle verfügen (es sei denn, es werden
ZusatzkartenwieFirewire,USBusw.installiert).DiesesKabelgestattetdenMidi-Datenaustausch
zwischen Ihrem Notebook und dem Midi In des SD 2 über den USB-Anschluss.
EINSCHALTEN
Zum Einschalten des SD 2 schließen Sie das mitgelieferte Netzgerät an die Stromversorgung
an. Die LED am Frontpaneel signalisiert Ihnen nun die Betriebsbereitschaft des Geräts.
1 On / Off: Ein-/Aus-Schalter des SD 2. Leuchtet
die LED, so bedeutet dies, dass das Instrument
in Betrieb steht. Werden Midi-Eingangssignale
registriert, blinkt die LED.
2 Volume: Schieberegler zur Einstellung
der allgemeinen Lautstärke des SD 2. Diese
Einstellung greift auch am Headphone-Ausgang.
3 Headphone: Anschluss für Niedrigimpedanz-
Stereo-Kopfhörer.

4 Midi In / Thru: Midi In- und Thru-Anschluss des SD 2. Den Midi In des SD 2 mit dem Midi Out Ihres
Computers, Midi Players oder Master Keyboards verbinden. Der Thru-Anschluss dient zur Übertragung
einer Kopie der Midi In-Signale an ein anderes Gerät (z.B. Expander).
5 Out L / R:
Audio Left- und Right-Ausgänge, die an den Mixer oder Audioverstärker anzuschließen sind.
6 Power Dc In: Anschluss für das 12 V-DC-Netzgerät des SD 2.
RATSCHLÄGE ZUR BENUTZUNG
Wir wollen hier nachstehend einige Empfehlungen zur Benutzung des SD 2 geben, damit Sie seine
musikalischen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten optimal ausschöpfen können.
HOME STUDIO (mit externen Computern, Sequenzern oder Playern)
In diesem Zusammenhang kann in der Tat das Maximum seiner Potentialitäten genutzt werden. Das
SD 2 wird an Ihren Computer (PC oder Mac) mittels Midi-Kabel (sofern Sie bereits eine Karte mit Midi-
Schnittstelle installiert haben) oder Midi-to-USB-Kabel angeschlossen, das von KETRON auf Wunsch als
Zubehör geliefert wird. Unter Verwendung einer musikalischen Sequenzer-Software wie Cubase ®, Logic
®, Cakewalk ® oder ähnlicher werden Sie in der Lage sein, das SD 2 gelungen in ihre Musikausarbeitungen
(Midi-Dateien, Jingles, Mix Audio usw.) einzubinden, wobei Sie sich seine große Klangvielfalt zunutze
machen können.
In Ihrem SD 2 implementiert finden Sie neben den
Sounds, die nunmehr Teil der Standardreferenzen
(GM) sind, weitere Klangbanken mit vielen
Sounds, die charakteristisch für die traditionellen
Instrumentengruppen (Pianos, Strings, Sax,
Brass usw.) sind. Was aber das SD 2 von anderen
Klangmodulen wesentlich unterscheidet, sind die
zahllosen Audio-Loops (Drum Loops, die kostenlos
von unserer Website www.ketron.it herunter zu
laden sind).
Durch Einarbeitung der Loops werden Ihre
Musikkreationen nicht nur bereichert, sondern
die gesamte Rhythmik Ihrer Stücke kann damit
ersetzt werden, was sicher den Unterschied zu dem
ausmacht, was Sie bisher in Midi-Dateiumgebung realisiert haben!
Nur ein kleines Beispiel: Stellen Sie sich eine Midi-Datei mit karaibischer Musik vor, bei der oft
südamerikanische Schlagzeuge zu hören sind, die wenig überzeugend klingen. Durch Anwendung der
Pattern, die in der Loop-Database vorhanden sind, kann die Drum-Spur mit der Funktion Copy & Paste

(Kopieren & Einfügen) ergänzt oder besser gesagt vollständig ersetzt werden. Mit nur wenigen Aktionen
sind Sie in der Lage, die rhythmische Midi-Struktur durch Audio-Loops so zu ändern, dass das Ergebnis
Sie überraschen wird.
Nach Speicherung Ihres fertigen Songs in dem von Ihnen gewünschten Format können Sie ihn mit jedem
Sequenzer oder Midi Player (MIDJAY oder ähnliche) durch Anschluss an Ihr SD 2 wiedergeben.
Laptops finden in der musikalischen Unterhaltungswelt immer stärkeren Einsatz für die Wiedergabe von
Midi-Dateien. Häufig jedoch wird der Vorteil, eine Musikkarte im Computer installiert zu haben, dadurch
gemindert, dass diese Karten über nur wenige Klänge von bescheidener Qualität verfügen.
Auch diesbezüglich bietet die zu internen Karten alternative Benutzung des SD 2 interessante
Möglichkeiten.
MIDI-KLAVIATUR (Master Keyboard, Arranger, Akkordeon usw.)
Das SD 2 kann als Zusatzmodul verwendet werden, um die Klangpalette Ihrer Klaviatur zu erweitern.
Ebenso angezeigt ist der Einsatz des SD 2 zusammen mit Master Keyboards ohne eigene Klangerzeugung
oder mit den aktuellen Mini-Remote-Keyboards (multimediale Klaviaturen), die immer öfter bei Live-Sets
Anwendung finden.
Ein dermaßen leistungsstarkes und zugleich kompaktes Klangmodul kann sicher Teil Ihres Musik-Set-Ups
werden.
HINWEISE ZUM BETRIEB
Wie Sie bereits festgestellt haben werden, verfügt das SD 2 über außen liegende (zuvor beschriebene)
Anschlüsse und nur einen allgemeinen Lautstärkenregler für die rückseitigen Ausgänge und den
Kopfhörer. Alle anderen Steuerungen, die eine Änderung des Sounds, der Lautstärke, des Halls und
anderer Effekte bewirken, müssen offensichtlich über MIDI-Befehle erfolgen. Für diejenigen, die bereits
diese Art der Bearbeitung kennen, wird es ausreichen, die MIDI-Implementationstabelle des SD 2 zu
beachten, um die Klänge des Instruments den Potentialitäten des Geräts entsprechend zu verwalten.
Für die weniger Kundigen haben wir auf unserer Website www.ketron.it eine Reihe von kostenlos herunter
zu ladenden Dateien mit der Konfiguration des Speicherplans der Klänge zur Verfügung gestellt, die mit
den gängigsten Sequenzer- und Notationsprogrammen verwendet werden können, vie Cubase®, Logic®,
Cakewalk®.
VERWENDEN VON DRUM LOOPS
Die Loops für das SD 2 stehen zum Herunterladen auf unserer Website www.ketron.it bereit.
Die Dateien sind in Folders (Ordner) zusammengefasst, die nach Musikstil (Salsa, Cha, Merengue, Jazz
usw.) gegliedert katalogisiert werden.
Es handelt sich dabei um Midi-Dateien, die sämtliche Informationen zur Ausführung der Rhythmus-
Patterns der verschiedenen Loops aus der SD 2-Klangerzeugung enthalten.
Damit Sie sich mehr unter den Klangmöglichkeiten dieser Loops vorstellen können, empfehlen wir Ihnen
die .mid-Demos in den Referenzordnern der verschiedenen Kadenzen anzuhören.
Erinnern Sie sich daran, dass diese Patterns bereits alle notwendigen Informationen enthalten (Program
Change, Lautstärke usw. ), sodass sie sofort ohne weitere Einstellungen ausgeführt werden können.
DRAWBARS SECTION
Die Klangerzeugung des SD 2 verfügt auch über einen Bereich digitaler Drawbars, die an der
Klangcharakteristik elektromagnetischer Orgeln ausgerichtet sind: 16’ ,8’ ,5’1/3, 4’, 2’2/3, 2’, 1’3/5 ,1’.
Percussion 4’ und 2’2/3. Die Drawbars können auf jedem Midi-Kanal (und auch auf mehreren Midi-Kanälen

gleichzeitig) wiedergegeben werden. Unter Nutzung der eigens für Logic ® aufgebauten Umgebung
(kostenlos von unserer Website www.ketron.it herunter zu laden) ist es möglich, sämtliche digitalen
Drawbars dank der virtuellen Schieberegler zu spielen, die in dieser Umgebung reproduziert wurden.

Wenn Sie diese Umgebung nicht benutzen, können Sie

Il Drawbars 16’ si ottiene inviando all’SD 2 la seguente

GRAND PIANO STEREO
Das SD 2 verfügt über einen professionellen Grand Piano Stereo-Klang über 88 Noten (dieser Klang wird
bei Einschalten des Geräts automatisch eingestellt – Progr. Change 01). Ein Grand Piano-Klang dieser
Qualität wird beim Anschluss an ein Master Keyboard von großem Vorteil sein.
ANDERE EIGENSCHAFTEN
Wer bereits mit multitimbralen Klangmodulen gearbeitet hat, weiß, dass DSPs (digitale Signalprozessoren
für Effekte und Nachaufbereitung der Klangsignale) Bestandteil dieser Systeme sind und über die
verschiedenen Controller- u./o. Sys Exclusive-Meldungen verwaltet werden.
Neben den klassischen Effekten, die damit erzeugt werden, wie Reverb, Chorus und Delay finden Sie bei
diesem Gerät noch weitere DSP-Fähigkeiten wie:
Rotor (für die digitalen Drawbars mit Regelung von Rate, Acceleration, Depth und Type)
Wha Wha (Amount. Steuert die Wha-Effektstärke auf der jeweiligen Spur.)
Bass Bost (Gain, Frequency. Dient der Verstärkung der Bässe.)
Distortion (Type , Resonance, Tone)
Im Bereich Master Control sind zudem folgende Steuerungen vorgesehen:

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY TO PERSONS
Warning: to reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this instrument to rain or

- Earthing instructions -
This product must be connected to an earthed outlet. In case of malfunctioning, the earthing
will reduce the risk of electric shock. The instrument comes with an earthed power cable and
plug to be used with an earthed outlet.
DANGER - Improper earthing connections may cause electric shocks. In case of doubts, have
your electric installation checked by a qualified electrician. Do not modify the power cable
coming with the instrument.
IMPORTANT SAFETY AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO AVOID RADIO/TV INTERFERENCE
This instrument operates at radio frequencies, and if not correctly installed according to the
instructions supplied, it may cause interference with radio and television reception.
Though this instrument has been designed according to the applicable standards and
notwithstanding the reasonable protections against interference it has been equipped with,
there is no guarantee that such events will not occur. In order to check if the interference is
actually caused by this instrument, switch it off and see if the interference disappears.
Then switch it on again and check if the interference appears again. Once you have made sure
that the interference is originated by this instrument, take one of the following measures:
•Modify the instrument’s position with respect to the receiver.
•Increase the distance between the instrument and the receiver.
•Connect the instrument’s plug to a different outlet to make sure that the instrument and
the receiver are connected to two different circuits.
•If necessary, contact a specialised technician.
POWER SUPPLY
•Before connecting this instrument to any other equipment (amplifier, mixer, other MIDI
instruments, etc.) make sure that all units are switched off.
•Read the instructions about Radio and TV interference.
HOW TO CLEAN THIS INSTRUMENT
•Use only a soft and dry cloth to clean the external surface of your instrument. Never use
petrol, thinners or solvents generally speaking.
OTHER PRECAUTIONS
If you wish to use your instrument abroad and if you have any doubts about the power supply,
contact a qualified engineer previously.
The instrument should never be subject to strong vibrations.
AC POWER ADAPTORS
To connect these instruments to the wall socket you will need the supplied KETRON AC
Power adaptors.
Use of other AC adaptors could result in damage to the instrument’s power circuit. So be
sure to ask for the right kind.
INFORMATION FOR USERS
”Observe European Directives 2002/95, 2002/96 and 2003/108 with regard to the reduced

disposal regulations.”
The symbol with the bin crossed out on the instrument points out that it must be separated
from other waste at the end of its useful life span and not just thrown away in the bin.
The user must therefore hand the instrument over to differentiated waste disposal centres
authorised to process electronic and electro-technical waste at the end of its useful life span,
or give it back to the retailer when purchasing a new similar type of device on a basis of 1-to-1
ratio. The differentiated disposal of the equipment for the possible future recycling of its

Thank you for purchasing the new KETRON SD 2 Orchestral Wizard. The SD
2 instrument represents an interesting integration to the sector of sound
modules in terms of compactness and musical performance.
Not only does it avail of all the sound acoustics necessary for the perfect
reproduction of musical files in General Midi standard and Kar format, but it
also has other additional sound banks with an incredible variety of orchestral
Voices: Grand Piano Stereo over 88 notes, Acoustic and electric guitars, Brass and saxophones of
unique quality, sampled organs and Digital Drawbars section, Accordions, Bass, Strings, acoustic
and electronic Drum Sets and so on. The SD 2 unit is also equipped with a considerable number
of audio Drum and Percussion Loops split-up into a very wide variety of musical styles, which
definitely make SD 2 stand out from all other similar models on the market.
The applications of SD 2 are best exploited in combination with a MIDI player (such as KETRON
MIDJAY for example) or with sequencers on computer ( Logic®, Cubase®, Cakewalk® and others),
but it can also be connected to Master keyboards or multi-purpose keyboards (Arranger, Synth,
Digital pianos etc.).
Before you use your SD 2 instrument, make sure you read all the instructions carefully in
order to fully exploit its potentials and to ensure its long life. Keep this manual in a safe place
for future reference.
CONTENTS OF THE PACKAGE
The original package of your SD 2 instrument includes the following material:
a) SD 2 unit
b) Instruction manual
c) DC Feeder - 12 Volts
Optional accessory: Midi to USB cable. This is required to use SD 2 with a Laptop, due indeed
to the fact that portable computers do not have their own Midi interface (unless they are
equipped with additional boards such as Firewire, USB etc.).
This cable is used for the communication of the midi data from your portable computer with
the Midi In of SD 2 via the USB connection.
TURNING ON
To turn the SD 2 unit on, simply connect the feeder supplied with the instrument to the mains.
The LED on the front panel lights up to point out that the instrument is working.

that the instrument is working. The LED will flash
if there is any Midi In activity.
2 Volume: Slider that controls the general volume
of SD 2. This volume also affects the Headphone
output.

CONNECTIONS
4 Midi In / Thru: Midi In and Thru connection of SD 2. Connect the Midi In of SD 2 to the Midi
out of the computer, of the Midi player or of the Master keyboard. The Thru connection is used
to send a copy of the Midi In to another device (i.e.:Expander).
5 Out L / R: Left and Right audio outputs to be connected to the mixer or audio amplifier.
6 Power Dc In: Connection for the DC 12 V feeder of SD 2.
ADVICE ON USING THE INSTRUMENT
In this section we show you how we think you should use SD 2 to fully exploit its performance
in musical applications.
HOME STUDIO (with computer, sequencer or external players)
In this context, SD 2 is able to express its performance to the best.
It can be connected to your computer (Pc or Mac) via the Midi cable (if you already have a
board with Midi interface) or via the Midi to Usb cable supplied as an optional accessory by
KETRON. Using musical sequencer programs such as Cubase®, Logic®, Cakewalk® or similar
you will be able to successfully integrate SD 2 in your musical elaborations (Midi files, Jingles,
Audio Mix etc.) exploiting its amazing sound versatility in the best way possible.
Your SD 2 not only offers the sounds that are
by now part of the GM standard references but
you will also find other Sound Banks with many
characteristic sounds in the traditional families
(Piano, Strings, Sax, Brass etc.).
The main feature that definitely distinguishes
SD 2 from other sound modules is the presence
of the numerous audio Loops (Drum Loops
that you can download free of charge from our
Internet site: www.ketron.it. ).
Just imagine if you add these Loops to your
musical creations ...they can enrich, if not
indeed replace, the rhythm of your songs and
they could make the difference with everything
that you have elaborated up to now in the sphere of Midi files! Just a quick example: Think
of a Midi file of Caribbean music, where you often hear not very convincing parts of Latin
percussions.
Apply some of the Patterns available in the data base of the additional Loops (or rather
replacement loops) of the existent Drum track (Copy & Paste). In just a few steps you will be

able to replace the Midi rhythmic structure with audio Loops and the result will be amazing.
Once your musical file is complete and you have saved it in the format that your prefer, you
can naturally play it back with any type of sequencer or Midi player (i.e.: MIDJAY or similar) by
connecting it to your SD 2. The use of laptops has become more and more popular in the world
of musical entertainment to play back Midi files.
The advantage of having a musical board integrated in the computer is however often
penalised by the fact that such boards only avail of a few sounds and of rather modest quality.
In this case again, we think that the use of SD 2 instead of built-in boards offers a considerable
opportunity.
MIDI KEYBOARD (Master keyboard, Arranger, Accordion etc. )
SD 2 can be used as a supplementary module to enrich the sound palette of your keyboard.
Another ideal solution is that of coupling SD 2 with Master keyboards without sounds or with
current mini remote keyboards (multimedia keyboards) that are used increasingly in the live
set-up. We are sure that such a powerful and compact sound module will certainly become
part of your musical set-up.
OPERATING NOTES
As you will have already noticed, the SD 2 unit has external connections (described previously)
and one general volume control for the rear outputs and for the headphones.
Obviously everything else that may modify the Sound, the Volume, the Reverb, the Effects etc.
must be performed via MIDI messages.
For those who are already familiar with this type of Editing procedure, simply observe the
table of MIDI implementations of SD 2 to be able to manage the Sounds of the instrument in
all its potentials.
For those who are still learning, we have prepared a set of files on our Internet site www.
ketron.it (that you can download free of charge) with the configuration of the Map of sounds
that can be used to work with the most commonly used sequencer programs and musical
notes, such as Cubase®, Logic®, Cakewalk®.
HOW TO USE THE DRUM LOOPS
You can download the Drum Loops for SD 2 from our Internet site www.ketron.it .
The files appear with a set of Folders, which are catalogued per type of music (Salsa, Cha,
Merengue, Jazz etc. ).
These are actually Midi files that contain information on how to play the rhythm Patterns of
the various Loops contained in the sound generation of SD 2.
To better understand the sound possibilities that these loops offer, we suggest that you listen
to the Demo.mid files within the reference folders of the various musical rhythms.
We remind you that these patterns contain all the information necessary (program change,
volume etc.) to be played immediately without any other settings.

The sound generation of SD 2 also avails of a section of digital Drawbars, inspired by the

The Drawbars can play on any midi channel (and also on a number of midi channels
simultaneously). Using the environment created especially for the Logic ® (which you can

download free of charge from our Internet site www.ketron.it) you can play all the digital
Drawbars, thanks to the virtual sliders reproduced in this environment.
Here’s how the editor created on Logic® appears:
If, on the other hand, you do not use this
environment, you can pull-up the various
Drawbars by sending the relative controllers to
the SD 2 unit, which are described in the section
entitled Midi Implementation.
Example:
Drawbar 16’ is obtained by sending the following
controller string to the SD 2 unit:
Bank 67, Program Change 0, Controller 20 (with value 0/127 relative to the volume of the actual
drawbar) .
In the section of the Midi Implementation functions, you will also find all the information
necessary to be able to modify the Drawbars and their relative applicable effects (Rotary,
Chorus, Reverb etc.).
STEREO GRAND PIANO
The SD 2 unit has a professional Grand Piano Stereo sound over 88 notes (pre-arranged as the
default sound when you turn the instrument on in Progr. Change 01).
The availability of a Grand Piano sound of such quality proves extremely useful when the
instrument is connected to a Master Keyboard.
OTHER FEATURES
For those of you who have already worked with multi-timbre sound modules, you will already
know that the DSP’s (effects and sound post-treatment) are integral part of these systems,
which are used via the various controllers and/or Sys Exclusive.
However, you will be interested to know that together with the typical sections of Reverb,
Chorus and Delay, you will also find other DSP effects, such as:
Rotor (for digital Drawbars with Rate, Acceleration, Depth and Type controls)
Wha Wha (Amount. This controls the intensity of the Wha effect on the track)
Bass Boost (Gain, Frequency. Bass boosting device)
Distortion (Type, Resonance, Tone )
The Master Control section also envisages the following controls:
Tune: This controls the general tune of the module (Data Value)
Arabic Scale: This controls the intervals for the Arabic scale (Data Value)
Global Transposer: Global transposition of the instrument ( Data Value )
