Key Digital®Champion Series™KD-HD16x16ProK Matrix Switcher is a 16 Inputs to 16
Outputs HDBaseT/HDMI via CAT5e/6 Matrix Switcher, supports Ultra HD/4K, and includes
16 Receiver (RX) Extenders KD-X16x16RX.

Quick Setup Guide
1. Begin with the KD-HD16x16ProK and all input/output devices turned off with power
cables removed.
2. Connect HDMI sources to the appropriate input ports on the KD-HD16x16ProK
3. Connect display devices via the RJ45 outputs and included KD-X16x16RX extenders.
4. Connect power to the KD-HD16x16ProK as well as to all other input and output devices
and turn them on.
5. Operate the KD-HD16X16ProK switcher via front panel buttons, IR Remote, Serial IR,
RS-232 or TCP/IP control.
Application Example
Operation:
After performing the setup above, the unit is ready for operation. There are several options for
controlling the unit. Commands can be issued via IR remote control, RS-232, TCP/IP or by using
the front panel buttons.
Note: Advanced commands are available only via the RS-232 and TCP/IP protocols.
Mounting:
Rack mount: Secure the rack ears to each side of the KD-HD16x16ProK with the supplied
hardware then fasten the unit to the rack rails with the included machine screws.

Connections, Buttons and LEDs
Rear Panel Connections:
All connections to the KD-HD16x16ProK are found on the rear panel of the unit. Refer to the
illustrations below for port assignments while making connections:

›To switch inputs: press the output button of the output you wish to switch ➔ press the desired
input button
›You can switch all outputs to a desired input by pressing “All Out” ➔ then pressing the desired
input button
Memory and Recall Functions
The KD-HD16x16ProK allows you to store up to 8 input/output configuration presets.
›Save:
»When you have your desired output-to-input relationships made, press “ Memory Store ” ➔
then press an input select number (1-8) to save this configuration.
›Recall:
»To recall a configuration, press “ Memory Recall ” ➔ then press the desired preset number
you wish to recall

EDID Control
The KD-HD16x16ProK has a built-in library of 15 EDID settings and the ability to copy EDID data
from the display connected to output 1.
›To copy EDID from output 1, press “ EDID ” ➔ Output 1 button
›To select a default EDID, press “ EDID ” ➔ input button (1-15) that corresponds to the default
EDID you want to set. See the chart below for a list of EDID library settings.
›Note: The default EDID is No. 4: 1080p, 2ch. Audio

Output Disable/Enable
The “ Output Disable ” button serves two purposes: disabling unused output(s) and shutting the
LCD screen.
›To toggle the LCD on/off, press the “Output Disable” button
›To disable an output, press the desired output button ➔ press “Output Disable”
»A disabled output is indicated by “00” on the LCD screen
›To disable all outputs, press “All Out” ➔ ”Output Disable”
›To enable an output, simply send it a switching command
IR Remote Operation
The IR remote control mimics the functions of the front panel buttons.
To use the IR remote control, follow the chart below for button
functions and execute functions the same way you would via
the front panel buttons.

Serial IR Operation
The unit may also be controlled via the Serial IR
interface. You must use the supplied Serial IR
cable (pictured to the right). This cable connects
to the “Serial IR” input port on the back of the unit.
The other end of the cable contains an IR receiver,
to which you can send IR control signals.
8 Pin Dip Switch
There is an 8 pin dipswitch on the back right of the unit.
Flipping a pin down is “ON” and up is “OFF”.
›Pins 1-5: Configure the Device ID
»Single Unit: 00000 ( = Default ) (ON=0, Off=1)
»All other configurations are used for multi-unit control/configuration
›Pin 6: RS-485 Master/Slave Configuration
»Off: RS-485 master; RS-232 and TCP/IP disabled
»On: RS-485 slave; RS-232 and TCP/IP enabled ( =Default)
›Pin 7: RS-232 or TCP/IP port control selection
»Off: TCP/IP enabled; RS-232 disabled
»On: RS-232 enabled; TCP/IP disabled ( =Default)
›Pin 8: TCP/IP Reset
»Off: TCP/IP normal ( =Default)

Connections
Please follow the instructions below for the KD-X16x16RX extenders:
›One CAT5e/6 UTP or STP cable needs to be used.
›Use the shortest possible HDMI cable when connecting the Extender to the Display. Key Digital
recommends cables 6 ft. or shorter for optimum performance.
›Ensure the CAT5e/6 cable is run directly from the switcher to the Extender.
›Do not use patch panels, punch downs, keystones, couplers, wall plates, etc..
»Key Digital recommends the use of CAT5e/6 STP cable with shielded RJ45 connectors for
optimum performance and distances from your Extender.
›Provided 12V/1.25A power supply is required for each extender.
Control
›To extend control signals, follow the instructions in the Extending Control Signals section below
›Each extender has an IR sensor to send IR control signals back to the KD-HD16x16ProK
3 Pin Dip Switch
There is a 3 pin dipswitch on the back right of the unit.
Flipping a pin down is “ON” and up is “OFF”.
›Pins 1 and 2 are used when upgrading firmware
» Off/Off: Normal use mode (Default)
» On/Off: Firmware upgrade via external RS-232 connection
» Off/On: Firmware upgrade remotely from the RS-232 port
of the KD-HD16x16ProK
»Note: If switches are left in firmware settings, RS-232 ports are disabled
›Pin 3: Long Range Mode
» Off: Normal mode (Default)
» On: Long Range Mode ON (Note: you must also enable the Long Range Mode switch on
the corresponding output on the back of the KD-HD16x16ProK
Extending Control Signals
›The KD-HD16x16ProK allows you to bi-directionally (from switch-to-zone and/or zone-to-switch)
extend IR and RS-232 control signals.
›The KD-HD16x16ProK can extend incoming IR/RS-232 signals to control any display/output
device or any source/input device via the single CAT5/6 cabling
›Signals extend from point-to-point (Output 1 ➔ Output 1, Output 2 ➔ Output 2…
Output 16 ➔ Output16)
›When connecting an IR Emitter to a device, make sure to find the IR receiver area on the device
Control Extension from External I/O Ports:
›There are 48 total control extension 3.5mm I/O ports (32 IR and 16 RS-232)
»These ports are labeled “IR 1,” “IR 2,”…“IR 16” and “RS-232 1,” RS-232 2,”…“RS-232 16”
›The “IR In” port on the back of the matrix extends signals to the “IR Out” port on the
corresponding extender.
»Example: The “IR In 3” port on the matrix sends control signals to the “IR Out” port on the
extender connected to output 3.
›The “RS-232” port extends signals to the DB9 connector on the corresponding extender
»Example: The “RS-232 4” port sends control signals to the DB9 connector on the extender
connected to output 4.
Extending IR
›Connect the 3.5mm cable from your powered IR connecting block or master controller,
to the “IR In” port.
›Connect your IR emitter to the “IR Out” port of respective Rx extender

3.5mm RS-232 input port on the back of the matrix
›Connect a DB9 cable from the receiver extender to the DB9 port of the device you wish to control

RS-232 and TCP/IP Commands
The KD-HD16x16ProK provides access to all functions when used with an RS-232 control system.
Connection protocol is as follows:
›Baud Rate = 57600 bits per second
›Data Bits = 8
›Stop Bits = 1
›Parity = None
›Flow Control = None
›Carriage Return: Required
›Line Feed: Required
All RS-232 commands commands are case-sensitive. Spaces must be included
where shown. Do not send the (‘) and (‘) characters; they are shown only for clarity.
A carriage return is required at the end of each string.

The KD-HD16x16ProK does not support DHCP. TCP/IP settings can only be changed via IP.
Follow the Network Setup commands above to configure your unit’s network settings.

Firmware Update
Your KD-HD16x16ProK firmware is updated through a Web portal. You may also adjust your
device’s IP settings in this portal.
