vehicle. Your Owner's Manual can assist
you in many ways.
We strongly recommend that you read
the entire manual. In order to minimise
the chance of death or injury, you must
read the WARNING and CAUTION sec

tions in the manual.
Illustrations complement the words in
this manual to best explain how to enjoy
your vehicle. By reading your manual,
you learn about features, important
safety information, and driving tips
under various road conditions.

Unleaded
For Europe
For the optimal vehicle performance, we
recommend you to use unleaded petrol
with an octane rating of RON (Research
Octane Number) 95 / AKI (Anti Knock
Index) 91 or higher.
You may use unleaded petrol with an
octane rating of RON 91~94 / AKI 87~90
but it may result in slight performance
reduction of the vehicle. (Do not use
methanol blended fuels.)
Except Europe
Your new Kia vehicle is designed to use
only unleaded fuel having an Octane
Rating of RON (Research Octane Num -
ber) 91 / AKI (Anti- Knock Index) 87 or
higher. (Do not use methanol blended
fuels.)
Your new vehicle is designed to obtain
maximum performance with UNLEADED
FUEL, as well as minimise exhaust emis
-
sions and spark plug fouling.
CAUTION
NEVER USE LEADED FUEL. The use of
leaded fuel is detrimental to the catalytic
converter and will damage the engine
control system's oxygen sensor and
affect emission control.
Never add any fuel system cleaning
agents to the fuel tank other than what
has been specified. (Kia recommends to
consult an authorised Kia dealer/service
partner for details.)
WARNING
僅 Do not "top off" after the nozzle auto -
matically shuts off when refuelling.
僅Always check that the fuel cap is
installed securely to prevent fuel spill
-
age in the event of an accident.
Leaded (if equipped)
For some countries, your vehicle is
designed to use leaded petrol. When you
are going to use leaded petrol, Kia rec
-
ommends to visit an authorised Kia
dealer/service partner and ask whether
leaded petrol in your vehicle is available
or not. Octane Rating of leaded petrol is
same with unleaded one.
Petrol containing alcohol and
methanol
Gasohol, a mixture of petrol and ethanol
(also known as grain alcohol), and petrol
or gasohol containing methanol (also
known as wood alcohol) are being mar
-
keted along with or instead of leaded or
unleaded petrol.
Do not use gasohol containing more
than 10% ethanol, and do not use petrol
or gasohol containing any methanol.
Either of these fuels may cause drivabil
-
ity problems and damage to the fuel
system, engine control system and emis -
sion control system.
Discontinue using gasohol of any kind if
driveability problems occur.
Vehicle damage or driveability prob
-
lems may not be covered by the manu -
facturer's warranty if they result from
the use of:
1. Gasohol containing more than 10%
ethanol.

2. Petrol or gasohol containing metha -
nol.
3. Leaded fuel or leaded gasohol.
CAUTION
Never use gasohol which contains meth -
anol. Discontinue use of any gasohol
product which impairs drivability.
Other fuels
Using fuels such as
僅 Silicone (Si) contained fuel,
僅 MMT (Methylcyclopentadienyl Man
-
ganese Tricarbonyl), Manganese (Mn)
contained fuel,
僅 Ferrocene (Fe) contained fuel, and
僅 Other metallic additives contained
fuels,
may cause vehicle and engine damage
or cause plugging, misfiring, poor accel
-
eration, engine stalling, catalyst melting,
abnormal corrosion, life cycle reduction,
etc.
Also, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp
(MIL) may appear.
NOTICE
Damage to the fuel system or perfor -
mance problem caused by the use of
these fuels may not be covered by your
New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Use of MTBE
Kia recommends avoiding fuels contain -
ing MTBE (Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether)
over 15.0% vol. (Oxygen Content 2.7%
weight) in your vehicle.
Fuel containing MTBE over 15.0% vol.
(Oxygen Content 2.7% weight) may
reduce vehicle performance and pro
-
duce vapour lock or hard starting.
CAUTION
Your New Vehicle Limited Warranty may
not cover damage to the fuel system
and any performance problems that are
caused by the use of fuels containing
methanol or fuels containing MTBE
(Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether) over 15.0%
vol. (Oxygen Content 2.7% weight.)
Do not use methanol
Fuels containing methanol (wood alco -
hol) should not be used in your vehicle.
This type of fuel can reduce vehicle per
-
formance and damage components of
the fuel system, engine control system
and emission control system.
Fuel additives
Kia recommends that you use unleaded
petrol which has an octane rating of
RON (Research Octane Number) 95 /
AKI (Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher (for
Europe) or Octane Rating of RON
(Research Octane Number) 91 / AKI
(Anti-Knock Index) 87 or higher (except
Europe).
For customers who do not use good
quality petrols including fuel additives
regularly, and have problems starting or
the engine does not run smoothly, one
bottle of additives should be added to
the fuel tank at every 15,000 km (For
Europe) / 10,000 km (Except Europe).
Additives are available from a profes
-
sional workshop along with information
on how to use them. Kia recommends to
visit an authorised Kia dealer/service
partner.

Fuel requirements
Operation in foreign countries
If you are going to drive your vehicle in
another country, be sure to:
僅 Observe all regulations regarding reg
-
istration and insurance.
僅 Determine that acceptable fuel is
available.
Diesel engine
Diesel fuel
Diesel engines must be operated only on
commercially available diesel fuel that
complies with EN 590 or comparable
standard. (EN stands for "European
Norm"). Do not use marine diesel fuel,
heating oils, or non-approved fuel addi
-
tives, as this will increase wear and
cause damage to the engine and fuel
system. The use of non-approved fuels
and / or fuel additives will result in a lim
-
itation of your warranty rights.
Diesel fuel of above cetane 51 is used in
your vehicle. If two types of diesel fuels
are available, use summer or winter fuel
properly according to the following tem
-
perature conditions.
僅 Above -5°C (23°F) ... Summer type die -
sel fuel.
僅 Below -5°C (23°F) ... Winter type diesel
fuel.
Watch the fuel level in the tank very
carefully : If the engine stops through
fuel failure, the circuits must be com
-
pletely purged to restart.
CAUTION
Do not let any petrol or water enter the
tank. This would make it necessary to
drain it out and to bleed the lines to
avoid jamming the injection pump and
damaging the engine.
CAUTION
Diesel Fuel (if equipped with DPF)
It is recommended to use the regulated
automotive diesel fuel for diesel vehicle
equipped with the DPF system. (if
equipped)
If you use diesel fuel including high sul
-
fur (more than 50 ppm sulfur) and
unspecified additives, it can cause the
DPF system to be damaged and white
smoke can be emitted. (if equipped)
Biodiesel (Except New Zealand/
Thailand/Indonesia/Malaysia)
Commercially supplied diesel blends of
no more than 7% biodiesel, commonly
known as "B7 diesel" may be used in
your vehicle if biodiesel meets EN 14214
or equivalent specifications. (EN stands
for "European Norm"). The use of biofu
-
els exceeding 7% made from rapeseed
methyl ester (RME), fatty acid methyl
ester (FAME), vegetable oil methyl ester
(VME) etc. or mixing diesel exceeding 7%
with biodiesel will cause increased wear
or damage to the engine and fuel sys
-
tem. Repairs or replacement of worn or
damaged components due to the use of
fuels not in our recommendations will
not be covered by your vehicle warranty.
CAUTION
僅 Never use any fuel, whether diesel or
B7 biodiesel or otherwise, that fails to
meet the latest petroleum industry
specification. (if equipped)
僅 Never use any fuel additives or treat
-
ments that are not recommended or
approved by the vehicle manufac -
turer. (if equipped)

Biodiesel (for New Zealand)
Commercially supplied diesel blends of
no more than 7% biodiesel, commonly
known as "B7 diesel" may be used in
your vehicle if biodiesel meets EN 14214
or equivalent specifications. (EN stands
for "European Norm"). The use of biofu
-
els exceeding 7% made from rapeseed
methyl ester (RME), vegetable oil methyl
ester (VME) etc. or mixing diesel exceed
-
ing 7% with biodiesel will cause
increased wear or damage to the engine
and fuel system. Repairs or replacement
of worn or damaged components due to
the use of fuels not in our recommenda
-
tions will not be covered by your vehicle
warranty.

僅 Never use any fuel, whether diesel or
B7 biodiesel or otherwise, that fails to

Biodiesel (for Thailand/Indone -
sia/Malaysia)
Use commercially supplied diesel blends
containing up to 7% biodiesel and meet -
ing EN14214 or equivalent specifications,
commonly known as “B7 diesel", for your
vehicle. (EN stands for "European Norm")
We highly recommend using B7 diesel.
The diesel engines are compatible with
B30 diesel complying with EN16709 or
ASTM D7467.
Don’t use improper fuels like home
brewed fuel, biodiesel greater than 30%.
If improper fuels are used, the engine
may be damaged.
Since biodiesel fuels degrade more eas
-
ily (faster) than diesel fuels not contain -
ing biodiesel, do not store them in the
fuel tank for more than 1 month.
If you plan to leave your vehicle unused
for more than a month with fuel (from
B7 to B30) filled less than 1/4, fill your
vehicle’s fuel tank with pure petroleum-
based diesel, B7 or lower, before starting
the engine. Then run your vehicle for at
least 30 minutes.
If filled more than 1/4, make sure to
drain the fuel from the fuel tank before
starting the engine. Then fill with a pure
petroleum-based diesel fuel, B7 or lower,
to run your vehicle for at least 30 min
-
utes.
Avoid direct sunlight as much as possi -
ble when leaving the vehicle unattended
for a long time.
Repairs or replacement of worn or dam -
aged components due to the use of fuels
not in our recommendations will not be
covered by your vehicle warranty.
Using Biodiesel may degrade accelera
-
tion performance and fuel economy.

Vehicle modifications
Vehicle modifications
This vehicle should not be modified.
Modification of your vehicle could affect
its performance, safety or durability and
may even violate governmental safety
and emissions regulations.
In addition, damage or performance
problems resulting from any modifica
-
tion may not be covered under warranty.
僅 If you use unauthorised electronic
devices, it may cause the vehicle to
operate abnormally, wire damage,
battery discharge and fire. For your
safety, do not use unauthorised elec
-
tronic devices.
Vehicle break-in process
By following a few simple precautions
for the first 1,000 km (600 miles) you
may increase the performance, econ
-
omy and life of your vehicle.
僅 Do not race the engine.
僅 Whilst driving, keep your engine
speed (rpm, or revolutions per min
-
ute) within 3,000 rpm.
僅 Do not maintain a single speed for
long periods of time, either fast or
slow. Varying engine speed is needed
to properly break-in the engine.
僅 Avoid hard stops, except in emergen
-
cies, to allow the brakes to seat prop -
erly.
僅 Don't tow a trailer during the first
2,000 km (1,200 miles) of operation.
僅 Fuel economy and engine perfor
-
mance may vary depending on vehi -
cle break-in process and be stabilized
after 6,000 km (4,000 miles). New
engines may consume more oil during
the vehicle break-in period.

Risk of burns when parking or
stopping vehicle
僅 Do not park or stop the vehicle near
flammable items such as leaves,
paper, oil, and tyre. Such items placed
near the exhaust system can become
a fire hazard.
僅 When an engine idles at a high speed
with the rear side of the vehicle touch
-
ing the wall, heat of the exhaust gas
can cause discoloration or fire. Keep
enough space between the rear part
of the vehicle and the wall.
僅 Be sure not to touch the exhaust/cata
-
lytic systems whilst engine is running
or right after the engine is turned off.
There is a risk of burns since the sys
-
tems are extremely hot.
Vehicle handling instructions
As with other vehicles of this type, failure
to operate this vehicle correctly may
result in loss of control, an accident or
vehicle rollover.
Specific design characteristics (higher
ground clearance, track, etc.) give this
vehicle a higher centre of gravity than
other types of vehicles. In other words
they are not designed for cornering at
the same speeds as conventional 2-
wheel drive vehicles.
Avoid sharp turns or abrupt manoeu
-
vres. Again, failure to operate this vehi -
cle correctly may result in loss of control,
an accident or vehicle rollover.
Be sure to read the "Reducing the risk
of a rollover" on page 5-81 .
