Equipmentresponsibility
Uponreceiptoftheequipmentthesystemownerorinstallationshipyardautomatically
becomesfullyresponsiblefortheequipment,unlessotherwisestatedinthecontract.
Thisresponsibilitycoversthestorageperiodbeforeinstallation,theactualinstallation,
commissioning,andtheperiodbetweenthecompletionofthecommissioningandthe
acceptanceoftheequipmentbytheenduser(normallytheownerofthevesselor
platformintowhichtheequipmentistobeinstalled).

Projectmanagement
Projectmanager
KongsbergMaritimeASwillnormallyappointadedicatedprojectmanagerforthe
deliveryproject.Theprojectmanagerwillfollowuptheinstallationanddelivery,and
willbetheinstallationshipyard’sandenduser’spointofcontact.
InstallationperformedbyKongsbergMaritime
KongsbergMaritimeASwillassistduringtheinstallationifspeciedinthecontract
orrequestedbytheinstallationshipyardorcustomer.Beforeanyinstallationwork
byKongsbergMaritimeAScanbegin,allcables(atleastthosewhichareinanyway
connectedwiththesystem)mustberunandconnectedtotheirrespectiveterminations.
Thesecablestogetherwiththetransducerinstallationwillthenbecheckedbythe
KongsbergMaritimeASengineersbeforetheyareused.
Dependingupontheavailabilityofelectricalpowereitherfromthegeneratorsonboard
orfromashore,theequipmentrelatedtothesystemandthevariouspartsofthesystem
willbetestedduringtheSettingtoWork(STW)period.Thisrequiresthatinterfacesto
equipmentdeliveredbyothersubcontractorsarereadyforintegrationtesting.
Delaysmayoccurifanyoftheequipmentrelatedtothesystemisnotavailablefor
KongsbergMaritimeASfortesting.Duringseatrials,thevesselmustbeatKongsberg
Maritime’sdisposalwhenrequired,eventhoughwecannotbeheldresponsiblefor
expensesrelatingtotherunningcostsofthevessel.

Aftercompletionofthecommissioning,theequipmentshouldbeofciallyhandedover
totheenduserandtheappropriatedocumentssignedinaccordancewiththecontract.
Alldefectsordeviationsfromthecontractmustbespeciedindetailinthesedocuments.
Itshouldbenotedthatifsuchdefectsordeviationsarenotspecied,theycannotbeused
byanyofthepartiesconcernedasvalidreasonfornotsigningthedocuments.
Installation,supervisionandcommissioning
Electricalandmechanicalinstallation
Unlessotherwisestated,theinstallationshipyardisresponsiblefortheinstallationofthe
entiresystem.Inaddition,theshipyardisresponsibleforprovidingandconnectingall
cablesotherthanspecialcablessuppliedwiththeequipment.Theactualinstallationand
cablelayingmustcomplywiththevessel’sclassicationrulesandtherecommendations
giveninthismanual.
Duringtheinstallationperiod,theequipmentmustbecoveredinsuchawaythatitis
protectedfromdust,paintspray/splashesandwelding/cuttingsparks.Precautionsmust
betakentoensurethatnopartoftheequipmentisusedasaworkplatform,orforany
otherpurposeforwhichitwasnotdesigned.
Note
Anydamageincurredduringtheinstallationperiod,evenwithaKongsbergMaritimeAS
representativepresent,istheinstallationshipyard’ sresponsibilityunlessitcanbeproven
thatthedamagewasduetoproductionormaterialdefectsintheequipmentdeliveredby
KongsbergMaritimeAS,orirresponsibilitybyKongsbergMaritimeASpersonnel.
Pre-commissioningandacceptancetests
Pre-commissioningandacceptancetestsmaybeconductedbyKongsbergMaritimeAS
personnelifthisisspeciedinthecontract.Thepersonnelmusthaveavailablestandard
equipmentandtools,andnecessarypowersuppliesfortheentireperiodofinstallation,
commissioningandtesting.
Installationtests
TheKongsbergMaritimeinstallationperiod(aftershipyardinstallation)isnormally
dividedintothreeconsecutivephases:
1Theinitialstart-upanddock-sidetestingperiod.Thisperiodisnormallyknownas
Setting-to-Work(STW).
2Dock-sidecommissioningunderoperationalconditions.Thiscommissioningperiod
isnormallyendedwithaHarbourAcceptanceTest(HA T).
3SeaAcceptanceTest(SA T)withnalcommissioningunderoperationalconditions
atsea.
Theextentofthetestsisnormallydenedinthecontract.

Ifrequiredduringacontractualtestperiod,theshipyardmustprovideassistance
necessaryfortherapidandefcientcompletionoftheworkevenwhentheworkistobe
performedoutsidenormalworkinghours.Thisrequirementincludesassistancefrom
subcontractorswhenapplicable.Excessivewaitingtimeresultingfromdelayscausedby
theshipyardwillbechargedtotheshipyard.

TheinstallationoftheSBP29isademandingtask.Itisveryimportantthatthepersonnel

TheSBP29unitsmustbeinstalledinadryanddust-freeenvironment.Theunitsarenot
fullyprotectedagainsthumidity,dustorwater.
Itisimportantthatthesonarroomiskeptdry.TheSBP29unitsmustnotbeexposed
toexcessivetemperatures,dust,moistureorhumidity.Suchconditionscancause
corrosiveattacksandsubsequentfailurestotheelectroniccircuitry.Visitthesonarroom
atregularintervalstochecktemperatureandhumidity,andtakethenecessaryactions
iftheenvironmentalconditionsarepoor.
Avoidrunninglargepowercablestroughthesonarroom.
ObservetheenvironmentalspecicationsrelatedtotheSBP29units.
Sizeandaccessrequirements
Awelldesignedsonarroomwithawellttedsizeandeasyaccessreducestheriskof
corrosion,andsimpliesmaintenance.Thisincreasessystemreliability.
Thesonarroommustbelargeenoughtohouseallthesystemunits.Theroommust
provideenoughspacetoallowefcientmaintenance.Youmustbeabletokeepallthe
cabinetdoorsfullyopenwithoutunduerestrictiontoyourmovements.
1Theroommustnotbeusedforanyotherheavymachinery.
2Theroommustnotbeunnecessarilyobstructedbygirders,pipesetc,whichmay
causeinstallationproblemsorimpedemaintenance.
3Thesonarroommustbeaccessibleunderallconditionsatseaorataberth.
4Alldoorsorhatchesmustbedesignedsothatthetoolsandequipmentcanbe
removedwithoutbeingdisassembled.

Requirementsforinsulation,heatingandventilation
Thebulkheadsinthesonarroomshouldbeinsulatedandprovidedwithaninteriorwall
tothedeck.Theroomshouldbeequippedwithheaterandconnectedtothevessel's
ventilationsystem.
Heatingrequirements
Heatingisaneffectivemethodforreducinghumidity.Theheaterinthesonarroommust
bedimensionedtomaintaintheequipmentwithinitsenvironmentaltolerances.
ObservetheenvironmentalspecicationsrelatedtotheSBP29units.
Ventilationrequirements
Thesonarroomshouldbeconnectedtothevessel'sventilationsystemtoensureasupply
ofcoolingair.Ifaventilationsystemisnotavailable,installtwo3”pipesfromthesonar
roomtoasuitablefreshairlocationondeck.
Thefreshairshouldentertheroomasclosetotheooraspossible,andshouldbe
extractedfromashighaspossible.Afunnelshapeddrip-collectormustbemounted
belowtheventpipestodivertmoisturetothebilge.Onthemaindeck,thebest
ventilationisprovidedwhentheoutletpipeisatleastfourmetershigherthantheinlet
pipe.Tokeepoutseawater,rainandspray,theventilationpipesmustbettedwith
goosenecksoranequivalentdesign.
Note
Ifthevesselislikelytooperateintropicalconditions,asuitableairconditioningsystem
mustbeinstalled.Theairconditioningsystemmustbeabletoprovideanambient

Thesonarroommustbeequippedwithsuitablelightingtosimplifytheinstallation
andtoaidfuturemaintenance.
Communicationrequirements
Thesonarroomshouldbeequippedwithatelephone,anintercomsystem,oranyother
meansoforalcommunicationbetweenthesonarroomandthebridgeand/orcontrol
room(s).

Powerrequirements
Eachunitinthesonarroomshouldbeprovidedwithaseparatecircuitbreakeronthe
mainssupply.
Propervesselgroundmustbeprovided.
Aminimumnumberofadditionalelectricaloutletsmustbeprovidedforotherequipment.
Cablingrequirements
ThesonarroomunitsareconnectedtootherSBP29unitslocatedindifferent
compartmentsonthevessel.Theunitsmayalsobeconnectedtoperipheraldevices.If
thesecablespassthroughhatchesorareaswheretheymaybedamaged,theymustbe
runinconduits.Minimum2”conduitisrecommended.
Makesurethatallsystemcablesareproperlyconnectedandsecured,andinstalled
withsomeslack.Theslackisessentialtowithstandvibrations,andtofacilitatefuture
maintenanceandreplacements.
