µPAPisaportableandcompactacousticpositioning
systemfortrackingROVs,towsh,diversorother
subseaobjectsatseveralthousandmetresrange.The
systemishousedinacompacttransducercasing,
makingitwellsuitedforinstallationonboardan
UncrewedSurfaceV ehicle(USV).Itisremotely
operatedfromanexternalcomputeroverEthernet
andtheuserselectsandcontrolsthetranspondersto
beused,orsendsdataforacousticmodemtransferto
amodemonboardasubseavehicle.

µPAP201-Ctransducers
Thetransducer’scasingismadeofstainlesssteelandbronzeinordertoobtainoptimal
anti-corrosionproperties.Thecasingenclosesandprotectstheelectronicsandthe
acoustictransducerelementsneededfortransmittingandreceivingacousticsignals,
aswellastherollandpitchmotionsensorandthepowersupply.Inaddition,the
µPAP201-Ctransducerhasabuilt-inPCrunningWindowsOSwithAPOSsoftware
pre-installed.Aframettedtothecasingprotectsthelowerredpartofthetransducer
anditsunderside,orface,fromaccidentaldamage.Theframealsofunctionsasastand
andsupportsthetransducerwhenitisplacedondeckoronanyotherlevelsurface.The
transducerhasmountingbracketsforeasymountingonapoleandcanbetiltedsideways
ifneededduringoperations.
Thetransducerisdeliveredinasturdytransportcase.
Note
Caremustbetakentoavoidaccidentaldamagetothetransducer’ slowerredpartandits
underside,orface.Thetransducermustnotbeplacedindirectsunlightwhenstored
ondeck.

TheResponderDriverUnitcontrolsanddistributesrespondertriggersignalsto
responders.
TheResponderDriverUnitisastand-aloneunit.The
ResponderDriverUnitisconnectedtothetransducer.APOS
controlsandactivatesthedesignateddrivepriortoreception
ofthesync/timingsignalfromthetransceiver.
Junctionbox(optional)
Thejunctionboxisdesignedforsurfacemounting.Itincludesbuilt-interminalsforthe
joiningofwiresbetweenthetransducerandthecustomer’spowersupply,andbetween
thetransducerandthecustomer’scomputer.
AResponderDriverUnitandanethernetswitchcan
alsobeconnectedtothejunctionbox.

AµPAP201-Ctransducerisoperatedfromanacousticpositioningoperatorstation
(APOS).Theacousticpositioningoperatorstation,orAPOSforshort,isaPCrunning
WindowsOSwithdedicatedacousticpositioningsoftware(APOSsoftware).
TheµPAP201-Ctransducerhasabuilt-inPCrunningWindowsOSwithanAPOS
pre-installed.UsethefollowinglogoncredentialstologontoaµPAP201-C’built-inPC.

Generalsupplyconditions
GeneralsupplyconditionsapplytothisµPAP201-Cdelivery.
Receipt,unpackingandstorage
Uponacceptingshipmentoftheequipment,theshipyardand/orthedealermustensure
thatthedeliveryiscompleteandinspecteachshippingcontainerforevidenceofphysical
damage.
Iftheinspectionrevealsanyindicationofcrushing,dropping,immersioninwateror
anyotherformofdamage,therecipientshouldrequestthatarepresentativefromthe
companyusedtotransporttheequipmentbepresentduringunpacking.
Allequipmentmustbeinspectedforphysicaldamage,i.e.brokencontrolsandindicators,
dents,scratchesetc.duringunpacking.Ifanydamagetotheequipmentisdiscovered,the
recipientmustnotifyboththetransportationcompanyandKongsbergMaritimesothat
KongsbergMaritimecanarrangeforreplacementorrepairofthedamagedequipment.
Onceunpacked,theequipmentmustbestoredinacontrolledenvironmentwithan
atmospherefreeofcorrosiveagents,excessivehumidityortemperatureextremes.
Theequipmentmustbecoveredtoprotectitfromdustandotherformsofcontamination
whenstored.
Equipmentresponsibility
Unlessotherwisestatedinthecontract,theshipyarddoingtheinstallationand/or
equipmentdealerbecomesfullyresponsiblefortheequipmentuponreceipt.
Thedurationofresponsibilitycover:
•Theperiodoftimetheequipmentisstoredlocallybeforeinstallation
•Theentireinstallationprocess
•Commissioning
•Theperiodoftimebetweencommissioningandthenalacceptanceoftheequipment
bytheenduserorowner
Unlessotherarrangementshavebeenmadeinthecontract,theKongsbergµPAP201-C
warrantyperiod(asspeciedinthecontract)beginswhentheacceptancedocuments
havebeensigned.

Thecablingmustbedonebeforeinstallingthetransducer.
Context
Thetransducerismountedontheship’sarrangementforthetransducer.Thismaybeon
apoleloweredthroughamoonpoolorahullunit.
Thelocationofthetransducerarrangementmustbeasfarawayaspossiblefrom
thrusters,aeratedwater,noisesourcesorotherequipmentsensitivetoacousticnoisein
thewater.

3Fastenthestudbolts.
InstallingtheResponderDriverUnit
(optional)
TheResponderDriverUnitisastand-aloneunitandcanbemountedeitherhorizontally
orvertically.
Prerequisites
Theunitshouldbelocatedwhereitismostsuitableforconnectingthecablestothe
responders.ThiscanbeclosetotheRemoteOperatingVehicle(ROV)operationroom.
Theunitmustbeinstalledsoitiseasilyaccessibleforoperatorstochecktheworking
conditionoftherespondertriggerstatusdiodes.
Procedure
1Removethefourscrewssecuringthelid.
2Liftoffthelidandlocatethefourmountingholes,oneineachcorner.
3Mounttheresponderdriverunitwheresuitable.
Mountingscrews,nutsandwashersareincluded.
4Closetheunit.
Note
Keeptheprotectingcapsonthebre-opticconnectorstoavoidaccidentaldamage
andcontaminationwhennotinuse.
