3 Overview
The Kramer TP-551HDCP and TP-552HDCP constitute a high quality DVI
line transmitter / receiver system using two STP cables.
This transmitter / receiver pair features:
•System Range1
•Cables – For optimum range and performance, use Kramer's
BC-DGKat524, BC-DGKat623 and BC-DGKat7a23
- Up to 60m (197ft) at XGA, or up to 30m (98ft) at
WUXGA on shielded BC-DGKat524 cable; 60m (197ft) at SXGA on
shielded BC-DGKat623 cable; 60m (197ft) at SXGA on shielded
BC-DGKat7a23 cable
•Support for up to 1.65Gbps bandwidth
•The passing of the EDID and HPD2
•Support for the DDWG DVI 1.0 standard
signals from the source to the display
device using the cables
Note that only the digital signal (DVI-D) is available on the DVI connector.
The TP-551HDCP DVI Line Transmitter features:
•A DVI input and a pair of RJ-45 CAT 5 output connectors
•Three status LEDs (INPUT, OUTPUT and POWER)
The TP-552HDCP DVI Line Receiver features:
•A DVI output and a pair of RJ-45 CAT 5 input connectors
•Three status LEDs (INPUT, OUTPUT and POWER)
•EQ. adjustment to enhance performance
3.1 Recommendations for Achieving the Best Performance
To achieve the best performance:
•Connect only good quality connection STP CAT 5e 24AWG or STP
CAT 6 cables, thus avoiding interference, deterioration in signal quality
due to poor matching, and elevated noise-levels (often associated with low
quality cables)
•Avoid interference from neighboring electrical appliances and position your
TP-551HDCP/TP-552HDCP away from moisture, excessive sunlight and
dust
1 Note that the transmission range depends on the signal resolution, graphics card and display used. The distance using non-
Kramer CAT 5, CAT 6 and CAT 7a cables may not reach these ranges

5 Connecting the TP-551HDCP and TP-552HDCP
You can use the TP-551HDCP DVI Line Transmitter with the TP-552HDCP
DVI Line Receiver to configure a DVI transmitter/receiver system.
To connect the TP-551HDCP to the TP-552HDCP, as illustrated in the
example in Figure 3, do the following:
1. Connect the CAT 5 OUT A and B RJ-45 connectors on the TP-551HDCP to
the CAT 5 IN A and B RJ-45 connectors on the TP-552HDCP, respectively,
via two STP CAT 5e 24AWG cables (see section 5.2).
2. On the TP-552HDCP, connect the DVI OUT connector to an acceptor (for
example, a display).
3. Connect the 5V DC power adapter to the power socket and connect the
adapter to the mains electricity on both1
Figure 3the TP-551HDCP and the
TP-552HDCP (not shown in ).
4. On the TP-551HDCP, connect the source (for example, a computer graphics
source) to the DVI IN connector.
5. On the TP-552HDCP, adjust the equalization level (see section 5.1).
5.1 Adjusting the EQ. Level via the EQ. Setup DIP-switches
To adjust the EQ. level, set the DIP-switches according to the cable length2

3 The optimum DIP-switch settings are dependent on the cable type and length, as well as the video resolution and
environment. The table shows the settings for typical installations using Kramer cabling at 1080p. Experimentation may be
necessary in a specific application, and any of 16 possible switch combinations may be applied
