Corrective measures for
the inability of
disappearing the display
of “The waste toner box
is not properly installed.”
Data writing to the EEPROM might be shut off at power off (including
transition to the sleep mode) and might not be complete correctly to
cause not disappearing the display of “The waste toner box is not properly
installed.”
[Change]
1) It is so changed that the power is shut off when confirming the data
writing is complete at power off (including transition to the sleep mode).
2) Process to return the initial value (recovery operation) is added if
upgrading to the new firmware or if data read from the EEPROM is
abnormal.
[Note]
The new firmware recovers the data, however, note if the phenomenon
has occurred, it is in the state below.
A) In case “Toner Low”is displayed after upgrading to the new
firmware, the light image might be printed. ⇒Resolved by replacing
to the new toner container
Reason) In case the status data of detecting “Toner Low”or “Toner
Empty”is abnormal, “Toner Low” or “Toner Empty” status is cleared and
the page count and print coverage printable until “Toner Empty”is
cleared.
･･･If data is recovered with the new firmware, “Toner Low” or “Toner
Empty” is detected again but the page count and print coverage printable
until “Toner Empty”is not recovered. If continuing use, page count until
“Toner Empty”comes to longer and the light image might be printed.
B) In case the toner installation setting is abnormal, the drive time come
to long for more several minutes ⇒No other failure and corrective
measures

Even if upgrading the firmware for the main unit where there is the failure
of not disappearing the display of “The waste toner box is not properly
installed.”, it might not be resolved.

When upgrading firmware or replacing PWB, etc., please upgrade each firmware (MAIN, ENGINE, MMI, etc.) to the latest
version at the same time. *1: Pre-installed for KDE/TA/OLIVETTI
Field Measure: Use 002.006 version ENGINE firmware at setup, etc. In case “Toner Low”is displayed after
upgrading the firmware of the field machine to the new version, replace with the new toner
container. (Refer to above A) for details)

Firmware upgrade procedure
In case of setup, next user visit or occurring this phenomenon, upgrade the firmware according to either of the
procedures 1-3 below
1. New machine (Main unit where no power is turned on yet)
(1) Unpack and install it before turning the power switch on. (Refer to the service manual [1-2-2 Unpacking
and installation])
*Howeber, do not attach the waste toner box and do not connect the power cord to the outlet.
(2) Insert a USB drive with the new firmware into the USB host interface slot while the power cord is
disconnected. Connect the power cord to the outlet.
(3) Turn the power on without the waste toner box ⇒Firmware update is executed for about 1 minute.
(4) After confirming the display [FW-Update Completed] (after firmware update is completed), confirm
ENGINEfirmware version is new and [2T6_1000.002.006].
(5) Turn the power switch off, disconnect the power cord and remove the USB drive.
(6) Connect the power cord to the outlet and turn the power switch on.
(7) Confirm [The waste toner box is not properly installed.] or [Select Language] display appears on the
message disply (LCD).
(8) If necessary, repack the main unit. (Reverse procedure of the service manual [1-2-2 Unpacking and
installation) Or attach the waste toner box, connect the power cord to the outlet to continue the installation
(aftr turning the power switch on).
2. Field machine 1 (Main unit operating normally)
(1) Insert a USB drive with the new firmware into the USB host interface slot while the power cord is
disconnected. Connect the power cord to the outlet.
(2) Turn the power on without the waste toner box ⇒Firmware update is executed for about 1 minute.

(3) After confirming the display [FW-Update Completed] (after firmware update is completed), confirm
ENGINEfirmware version is new and [2T6_1000.002.006].
(4) Turn the power switch off, disconnect the power cord and remove the USB drive.
(5) Turn the power on and confrim the main unit drives for about 30 seconds and stops to start up normally.
3. Field machine 2 (Main unit where the phenomenon of “The waste toner box is not properly installed.” display
not disappearing)
(1) Insert a USB drive with the new firmware into the USB host interface slot while the power cord is
disconnected. Connect the power cord to the outlet.
(2) Turn the power on ⇒ Firmware update is executed for about 1 minute.
(3) After confirming the display [FW-Update Completed] (after firmware update is completed), confirm
ENGINEfirmware version is new and [2T6_1000.002.006].
(4) Turn the power switch off, disconnect the power cord and remove the USB drive.
(5) Turn the power switch on .⇒ The main unit is only driven with the display of [Please wait, installing
toner] for about 4 minutes.

*This toner filling operation can be cancelled by pressing [OK] at [Menu] ⇒09 Adjustment/maintenance ⇒
03 Service Settings ⇒06 Toner Install.
(6) Turn the power off when drive stops.
(7) Turn the power on and confrim the main unit drives for about 30 seconds and stops to start up normally.
