MTF указывается для расстояний до снимаемого объекта (до бесконечности) при
полном открытии диафрагмы и при отверстии 5,6/8. Контрастность представлена
в процентах для 5, 10, 20, 40 Ip/мм выше уровня малоформатной фотопленки для
тангенциальных (пунктирная линия) и сагиттальных составляющих (непрерывная
линия) при белом свете. 5 и 10 Ip/мм дают представление о характере контрастности
для крупных деталей объекта, 20 и 40 Ip/мм отображают разрешающую способность
мелких и наимельчайших деталей объекта.

Besondere Eigenschaften
Das LEICA SUMMARIT-S 1:2.5/35mm ASPH. ist ein Objektiv für das Leica S-Spiegelreexsy-
stem. Durch die Sensorgröße der Leica S-Kameras von 30x45mm entspricht es in der Bild-
wirkung einem 28mm-Objektiv in Kleinbild-Systemen.
Das LEICA SUMMARIT-S 1:2.5/35mm ASPH. zeichnet sich bereits bei oener Blende und
von Unendlich bis in den Nahbereich aus durch maximale Kontrastwiedergabe und höchste
Auösung. Der bei oener Blende etwas niedrigere Kontrast in den äußersten Bildecken kann
schon durch leichtes Abblenden behoben werden, gleiches gilt für die Verbesserung der
Wiedergabe feinster Details bei kürzester Einstellentfernung. Darüber hinaus ist das Objektiv
nahezu bildfehlerfrei - monochromatische Abbildungsfehler (Bildfeldwölbung, Astigmatismus,
Koma) sind praktisch nicht vorhanden. Der Anteil der Farbfehler ist minimal, und auch das
sekundäre Spektrum ist hervorragend korrigiert.
Die jedem optischen System eigene Vignettierung beträgt bei voller Önung in der Unendlich-
Einstellung maximal 1.4 Blendenstufen. Abblenden auf 5.6 verringert sie bis auf die natürliche
Vignettierung. Die Verzeichnung ist mit maximal 1.2 % in der Unendlich-Einstellung sehr ge-
ring und im Bild praktisch nur bei diesbezüglich kritischen Motiven wahrnehmbar. Selbst bei
kürzester Entfernungseinstellung bleibt die Verzeichnung mit 1,7 % so gering, dass negative
Auswirkungen auf die Aufnahmen nicht befürchtet werden müssen.
Insgesamt 11 Linsen werden zur Erzielung dieser Leistung eingesetzt. Darunter sind fünf
Linsen aus Gläsern mit anomaler Teildispersion - drei davon wiederum sind Fluoridlinsen mit
besonders geringer Dispersion zur Korrektion der Farbfehler. Zur Minimierung der monochro-
matischen Bildfehler kommen zwei Asphären zum Einsatz, wobei die im Vorderglied zusätzlich
für die exzellente Korrektion der Verzeichnung sorgt.

Zur Fokussierung wird ausschließlich die aus 6 Linsen bestehende hintere Baugruppe ver-
schoben, so dass sich die Baulänge des Objektivs nicht verändert.
Fazit: Das LEICA SUMMARIT-S 1:2.5/35mm ASPH. bietet eine außerordentlich hohe Abbil-
dungsleistung, von der Unendlicheinstellung bis in den Nahbereich, bei Oenblende ebenso
wie im abgeblendeten Zustand. Die herausragende Abbildungsleistung bis in den maximalen
Nahbereich erönet dem Fotografen einzigartige bildgestalterische Möglichkeiten, ohne des-
halb Kompromisse bei der Bildqualität eingehen zu müssen.
Aufbau der Leica S-Objektive
Alle Leica S-Objektive weisen im Prinzip den gleichen äußeren Aufbau auf: es gibt an der vor-
deren Fassung ein Außenbajonett (2b) für die Gegenlichtblende (1) und ein Innengewinde (2a)
für Filter, einen Einstellring für die Entfernung (3), ein Fenster (4) zum Ablesen der darunter
liegenden Entfernungsskala (4b) und einen feststehenden Ring (5) mit einem roten Index-
knopf für den Objektivwechsel (5a).
Im Bajonettansch bendet sich eine Kontaktleiste (6), über die der gesamte Datenaustausch
zwischen Kamera und Objektiv stattndet, einschließlich der Steuerbefehle für den Autofo-
kus, die Blende und ggf. den Zentralverschluss.

Zentralverschluss
Das LEICA SUMMARIT-S 1:2.5/35mm ASPH. ist in zwei Varianten erhältlich: mit oder ohne
eingebauten Zentralverschluss. Mit dem Hauptschalter der Kamera können Sie festlegen,
ob Sie den Kamera-internen Schlitzverschluss, oder den Zentralverschluss entsprechender
Objektive einsetzen. Mit Zentralverschluss stehen besonders kurze Blitz-Synchronzeiten zur
Verfügung (weitere Einzelheiten entnehmen Sie bitte den entsprechenden Abschnitten in der
Kamera-Anl.).
Scharfeinstellung
Das Einstellen der Schärfe erfolgt bei Autofokus-Betrieb automatisch durch die Kamera, bei
Manuell-Betrieb durch drehen des Entfernungs-Einstellrings (3; weitere Einzelheiten entneh-
men Sie bitte den entsprechenden Abschnitten in der Kamera-Anl.).
Schärfentiefe
Da Leica S-Objektive keinen Blendenring besitzen, ist auch keine Schärfentiefe-Skala vorhan-
den. Entnehmen Sie bitte die entsprechenden Werte der Tabelle auf S. 74–75.

Gegenlichtblende
Das LEICA SUMMARIT-S 1:2.5/35mm ASPH. wird mit einer optimal auf die Strahlengänge
abgestimmten, blütenförmig ausgeschnittenen Gegenlichtblende (1) geliefert. Sie lässt sich
dank ihres symmetrischen Bajonetts schnell und einfach-, und zur platzsparenden Aufbewah-
rung auch umgekehrt aufsetzen. In beiden Fällen wird sie, bei abgenommenem Objektivde-
ckel, zunächst so angesetzt, dass sich einer der Indexpunkte auf der Gegenlichtblende (2c)
genau dem Indexpunkt an der Frontfassung des Objektivs (1a) gegenüber steht. Anschließend
wird die Gegenlichtblende ca. 30° im Uhrzeigersinn gedreht bis sie deutlich hör- und spürbar
einrastet.
Solange die Kamera fotograerbereit getragen und benutzt wird, sollte die Gegenlichtblende
immer aufgesetzt bleiben. Sie schützt wirksam gegen Kontrast minderndes Nebenlicht, aber
auch gegen Beschädigungen und Verschmutzungen der Frontlinse, wie z. B. durch versehent-
liche Fingerabdrücke.

Am LEICA SUMMARIT-S 1:2.5/35mm ASPH. können E82-Schraublter verwendet werden.

Tipps zur Pege Ihres Objektivs
Staub auf den Außenlinsen wird mit einem weichen Haarpinsel oder vorsichtig mit einem
sauberen, trockenen, weichen Tuch entfernt. Besonders geeignet sind Mikrofasertücher
(erhältlich im Fachhandel), die bis 40°C waschbar sind. Zur Beseitigung von Flecken und Fin-
gerabdrücken wird mit diesem Tuch die Linse von der Mitte aus in kreisförmigen Bewegungen
zum Rand hin gereinigt. Brillen-Spezialreinigungstücher sollten nicht verwendet werden, da
sie mit chemischen Stoen imprägniert sind, die für die verwendeten Glassorten und Vergü-
tungen schädlich sein können. Üben Sie auch beim Abwischen stark verschmutzter Linseno-
berächen keinen großen Druck aus. Die Vergütung ist zwar hoch abriebfest, durch Sand
oder Salzkristalle kann sie dennoch beschädigt werden. Azeton darf keinesfalls zur Reinigung
verwendet werden.
Für einen leichten, sanft gleitenden Objektivwechsel ist das Bajonett werksseitig mit einem
hauchdünnen Fettlm belegt. Bei normalem Gebrauch bleibt dieser Zustand über Jahre erhal-
ten, auch wenn das Bajonett von Zeit zu Zeit mit einem sauberen Tuch abgewischt wird. Falls
zum Reinigen ein Fett lösendes Mittel benutzt wird, muss anschließend der Fettlm wieder
ersetzt werden.
Dazu wird ganz wenig Vaseline mit dem Finger über das Bajonett gestrichen und mit einem
sauberen Tuch verrieben.
Jedes Objektiv trägt außer der Typbezeichnung seine „persönliche“ Fabrikationsnummer. No-
tieren Sie sich diese Nummer zur Sicherheit in Ihren Unterlagen.
Staub- und Spritzwasser-Schutz
Leica S-Objektive sind durch eine Reihe konstruktiver Maßnahmen in gewissem Umfang
gegen Feuchtigkeit und Staub geschützt. Sie dürfen jedoch nicht dauerhaft Regen ausgesetzt
werden. Stellen Sie sicher, dass weder Wasser, noch Sand oder Staub eindringen können z. B.
bei Schnee, Regen, oder am Strand.

Special features
The LEICA SUMMARIT-S 35mm f/2.5 ASPH is a lens designed for the Leica S SLR system.
Due to the 30x45mm sensor size of the Leica S cameras it is comparable to a focal length of
28mm with 35mm format systems.
The LEICA SUMMARIT-S 35mm f/2.5 ASPH delivers maximum contrast and resolution even
with at full stop and from innity to the close-up range. The slightly lower contrast in the ex-
treme corners of the image at full stop can be eliminated by stopping down slightly, and the
reproduction of tiny details at the very shortest range can be improved in the same way. In
addition, the lens is almost free of aberrations and there are practically no monochromatic
aberrations (curvature of eld, astigmatism, coma). The incidence of chromatic aberrations is
minimal and the secondary spectrum is also corrected outstandingly well.
The vignetting, characteristic of any optical system, is a maximum of 1.4 stops at full stop
in the innity setting. Stopping down to 5.6 reduces it to the natural vignetting only. The
maximum distortion is very low at just 1.2 % in the innity setting and in practical terms is
only perceptible in the image with exceptionally critical subjects. Even at the shortest range,
distortion remains low at 1.7 %, so that there is no need to worry about negative eects on
your pictures.
A total of 11 lenses are used to achieve this exceptional performance. They include ve made
of glass types with anomalous partial dispersion - three of these are uoride lenses with ex-
ceptionally low dispersion to correct any chromatic aberrations. Two aspherical lenses are
used to minimize monochromatic aberrations, with the one in the front group also ensuring
the excellent distortion correction.

For focusing, only the rear assembly made up of 6 lenses is moved, which means that the
total length of the lens does not change.
Summary: The LEICA SUMMARIT-S 35mm f/2.5 ASPH provides exceptional imaging
per formance from the innity setting to the close-up range, at full stop and when stopped
down. This outstanding performance right up the maximum close-up range gives the photo-
grapher a unique choice of compositional options without having to accept any compromises
in image quality.
Design of Leica S lenses
In principle, all Leica S lenses have the same design: There is an external bayonet (2b) for the
lens hood (1) and an internal thread (2a) for lters on the front mount, a setting ring for the
distance (3), a window (4) for reading the distance scale (4b) underneath and a xed ring (5)
with a red alignment button for changing lens (5a).
In the bayonet ange there is a contact strip (6), which is used to transfer all data be tween
the camera and the lens, including the control commands for autofocus, the diaphragm and, if
present, the central shutter.

Central shutter
The LEICA SUMMARIT-S 35mm f/2.5 ASPH is available in two versions: with and without
a built-in central, or leaf shutter. You can use the master switch on the camera to specify
whether you want to use the camera‘s internal focal plane shutter or the central shutter on
corresponding lenses. The central shutter provides particularly short ash sync speeds (for
further details, refer to the relevant sections in the camera manual).
Focusing
In autofocus mode, the focus is set automatically by the camera and in manual mode by turn-
ing the distance setting ring (3; for further details, refer to the relevant sections in the camera
manual).
Depth of eld
As Leica S lenses do not have an aperture ring, there is no depth of eld scale. Refer to the
table on p. 74–75 for the corresponding values.

Lens hood
The LEICA SUMMARIT-S 35mm f/2.5 ASPH is supplied with a petal shaped lens hood (1)
optimally adapted for the optical path. Thanks to its symmetrical bayonet, it can be attached
quickly and also in reverse for space-saving storage.
In both cases, when the lens cap is removed it is initially attached by exactly aligning one
of the index points on the lens hood (2c) with the index point on the front mount of the lens
(1a). The lens hood is then turned clockwise by around 30° until you hear and see it click into
place.
When the camera is being carried ready to shoot and during actual use, the lens hood should
always remain attached. It provides eective protection against contrast-reduc ing stray light
and also against damage and soiling of the front lens, e.g. from accidental ngerprints.

Care tips for your lens
Dust on the outer lenses should be removed with a soft hair brush or carefully using a clean,
dry, soft cloth. Micro ber cloths (available from specialist retailers) are ideal and can be
washed at up to 40 °C. To remove marks or ngerprints, wipe the lens with this cloth starting
in the middle and working towards the edge in a circular motion. Special cleaning cloths for
glasses should not be used as they are impregnated with chemicals that can damage the
types of glass and coatings used. Do not exert heavy pressure when wiping highly soiled lens
surfaces. Although the coating is highly abrasion resistant, it can be damaged by sand or salt
crystals. Never use acetone for cleaning.
The bayonet is given an ultra-thin lm of grease in the factory to ensure that the lens can be
changed easily, gently and smoothly. In normal use, this is retained for many years even if the
bayonet is occasionally wiped with a clean cloth. If a substance that dissolves grease is used
for cleaning, the grease lm must subsequently be replaced. To do this, coat the bayonet with
a tiny amount of Vaseline with a nger and spread using a clean cloth.
In addition to the type designation, every lens has its “personal” serial number. Note this
number in your documentation for security.
Dust and splashed water protection
Leica S lenses have a range of design features that provide a certain amount of protection
against moisture and dust. However, they should not be continuously exposed to rain. Ensure
that neither water nor sand and dust can get into the lenses, e. g. when it is snowing or rain-
ing and on the beach.
