Chapter 1. Meet your omputer
Front
1. Air vents Be careful not to block any air vents on the computer. Blocked air vents can cause
overheating.
2. Camera cover slider
Move the slider to cover or uncover the camera lens.
Note: The camera cover helps you better protect your privacy.
3. Camera light If the light is on, the camera is in use.
4. Integrated camera
Take pictures or record videos by clicking Camera from the Start menu.
If you use other apps that support photographing, video chatting, and video
conference, the camera starts automatically when you enable the camera-
required feature from the app.
5. Integrated microphone Capture or record sound and voice.
6. Screen Displays te t, graphics, and videos. Selected models support multi-touch
function. See “Use the multi-touch screen (for selected models)” on page 10.
7. Cable clip* Lock cables of e ternal devices to your computer through a cable clip to keep
your desktop organized.

Rear
1. Power connector Connect the power adapter to your computer for power supply.
2. Ethernet connector Connect to a local area network (LAN). When the indicator is on, the computer is
connected to a LAN. When the indicator blinks, data is being transmitted.
3. HDMI™ 1.4 out connector
Send audio and video signals from the computer to another audio or video device,
such as a high-performance monitor. For more information, see https://
www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/inde .asp .
4. USB 2.0 connectors (2) Connect USB-compatible devices, such as a USB keyboard, USB mouse, USB
storage device, or USB printer.
5. USB 3.1 connector*
Connect USB-compatible devices, such as a USB keyboard, USB mouse, USB
storage device, or USB printer.

Note: This jack does not support standalone e ternal microphones. If you use
headsets, choose one with a single plug.

button* Eject or close the optical drive tray.
2. Optical drive activity indicator* This indicator is on when the optical drive is in use.
3. Optical drive* Read data from or write data to an optical drive.
4. Power button
Press to turn on the computer.
To turn off the computer, open the Start menu, click Power, and then select Shut
down.
The indicator in the power button shows the system status of your computer.
1. On: The computer is on.
2. Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
3. Blinking: The computer is in sleep mode.

Depending on many factors such as the processing capability of the host and peripheral devices, file
attributes, and other factors related to system configuration and operating environments, the actual transfer
rate using the various USB connectors on this device will vary and will be slower than the data rate listed
below for each corresponding device.

Adjust the omputer stand
Note: For information about installing the computer stand, refer to the setup guide that comes with your
computer.
Tilt the screen forward and back.
Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows help information.
Windows a ount
A user account is required to use the Windows operating system. It can either be a Windows user account or
a Microsoft account.
Windows user a ount
When you start Windows for the first time, you are prompted to create a Windows user account. This first
account you created is of the “Administrator” type. With an Administrator account, you can create additional
user accounts or change account types by doing the following:
1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ➙ A ounts ➙ Family & other users.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Mi rosoft a ount
You can also log in to the Windows operating system with a Microsoft account.
To create a Microsoft account, go to the Microsoft sign-up page at https://signup.live.com and follow the on-
screen instructions.
With a Microsoft account, you can:
• Enjoy one-time signing in if you are using other Microsoft services, such as OneDrive, Skype, and Outlook.

Your computer helps you connect to the world through a wired or wireless network.
Conne t to the wired Ethernet
Connect your computer to a local network through the Ethernet connector on your computer with an
Ethernet cable.
Conne t to Wi-Fi networks
1. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area. A list of available wireless networks is displayed.
2. Select a network available for connection. Provide required information, if needed.
Use Lenovo Vantage
The preinstalled Lenovo Vantage is a customized one-stop solution to help you maintain your computer with
automated updates and fi es, configure hardware settings, and get personalized support.

Open the Start menu and click Lenovo Vantage. You also can type Lenovo Vantage in the search bo .
To download the latest version of Lenovo Vantage, go to Microsoft Store and search by the app name.

• Download and install UEFI BIOS, firmware and driver updates to keep your computer up-to-date.

Notes:
• The available features vary depending on the computer model.
• Lenovo Vantage makes periodic updates of the features to keep improving your e perience with your
computer. The description of features might be different from that on your actual user interface.
Use the multi-tou h s reen (for sele ted models)
If your computer display supports the multi-touch function, you can navigate the screen with simple touch
gestures.
Note: Some gestures might not be available depending on the app you use.

• In an open app: Perform an action such as Copy, Save, and
Delete, depending on the app.

Tips
• Turn off the computer before cleaning the multi-touch screen.
• Use a dry, soft, and lint-free cloth or a piece of absorbent cotton to remove fingerprints or dust from the
multi-touch screen. Do not apply solvents to the cloth.
• The multi-touch screen is a glass panel covered with a plastic film. Do not apply pressure or place any
metallic object on the screen, which might damage the touch panel or cause it to malfunction.
• Do not use fingernails, gloved fingers, or inanimate objects for input on the screen.
• Regularly calibrate the accuracy of the finger input to avoid a discrepancy.
Use multimedia
Use your computer for business or entertainment with the devices (such as a camera, a monitor, or
speakers).
Use audio
To enhance the audio e perience, connect speakers, headphones, or a headset to the audio connector.
Adjust the volume
1. Click the volume icon in the Windows notification area on the taskbar.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the volume. Click the speaker icon to mute the audio.
Change the sound settings
1. Go to Control Panel and view by category.
2. Click Hardware and Sound ➙ Sound.
3. Change the settings as you prefer.
Use the amera (for sele ted models)
You can use the camera to take photos or record videos.
To take photos or record a video:
1. Open the Start menu and click Camera. You also can type Camera in the search bo .
2. To take a photo, click the camera icon. If you want to record video, click the video icon to switch to
video mode.
If you use other programs that provide features such as photographing, video capturing, and video
conference, the camera starts automatically when you enable the camera-required feature.
Conne t to an external display
Connect your computer to a projector or a monitor to give presentations or e pand your workspace.
Conne t to a wired display
1. Connect the e ternal display to an appropriate video connector on your computer, such as the VGA-out
connector, DisplayPort-out connector, or HDMI-out connector.
2. Connect the e ternal display to an electrical outlet.
3. Turn on the e ternal display.

If your computer cannot detect the e ternal display, right-click an empty area of the desktop, and then click
Display settings ➙ Dete t.
Conne t to a wireless display
To use a wireless display, ensure that both your computer and the e ternal display support the Miracast®
feature.
• Open the Start menu, and then click Settings ➙ Devi es ➙ Bluetooth & other devi es ➙ Add
Bluetooth or other devi e. In the Add a device window, click Wireless display or do k. Then, follow the
instructions on the screen.
• Click the action center icon in the Windows notification area and click Conne t. Select the wireless
display and follow the on-screen instructions.
Set the display mode
Right-click a blank area on the desktop and select Display settings. Then, select a display mode of your
preference from the Multiple displays menu.
• Dupli ate these displays: Display the same video output on both your computer screen and an e ternal
display.
• Extend these displays: E tend the video output from your computer display to an e ternal display. You
can drag and move items between the two displays.
• Show only on 1: Display the video output only on your computer screen.
• Show only on 2: Display the video output only on an e ternal display.
If you show programs using DirectDraw or Direct3D® in full-screen mode, only the main display shows the
video output.
Change display settings
1. Right-click a blank area on the desktop and select Display settings.
2. Select the display that you want to configure.
3. Change display settings of your preference.
You can change the settings for both the computer display and the e ternal display. For e ample, you can
define which one is the main display and which one is the secondary display. You also can change the
resolution and orientation.
Note: If you set a higher resolution for the computer display than the e ternal display, only part of the screen
can be displayed on the e ternal display.
