Usethisinformationtohelyouidentifyotentialunsafeconditionsinadevicethatyouareworkingon.
Eachdevice,asitwasdesignedandmanufactured,hasrequiredsafetyitemstorotectusersandservice
techniciansfrominjury.Theinformationinthissectionaddressesonlythoseitems.Usegoodjudgment
toidentifyotentialunsafeconditionsthatmightbecausedbyunsuortedalterationsorattachmentof
unsuortedfeaturesorotionaldevicesthatarenotaddressedinthissection.Ifyouidentifyanunsafe
condition,youmustdeterminehowseriousthehazardisandwhetheryoumustcorrecttheroblembefore
youworkontheroduct.
Considerthefollowingconditionsandthesafetyhazardsthattheyresent:
•Electricalhazards,eseciallyrimaryower.Primaryvoltageontheframecancauseseriousorfatal
electricalshock.
•Exlosivehazards,suchasadamagedCRTfaceorabulgingcaacitor.
•Mechanicalhazards,suchaslooseormissinghardware.
Toinsecttheroductforotentialunsafeconditions,comletethefollowingstes:
1.Makesurethattheowerisoffandtheowercordsaredisconnected.
2.Makesurethattheexteriorcoverisnotdamaged,loose,orbroken,andobserveanysharedges.
3.Checktheowercords:
•Makesurethatthethird-wiregroundconnectorisingoodcondition.Useametertomeasure
third-wiregroundcontinuityfor0.1ohmorlessbetweentheexternalgroundinandtheframeground.
•Makesurethattheowercordsarethecorrecttye.
•Makesurethattheinsulationisnotfrayedorworn.

5.Checkforanyobviousunsuortedalterations.Usegoodjudgmentastothesafetyofanyunsuorted
alterations.
6.Checkinsidethesystemforanyobviousunsafeconditions,suchasmetalfilings,contamination,water

7.Checkforworn,frayed,orinchedcables.
8.Makesurethattheower-sulycoverfasteners(screwsorrivets)havenotbeenremovedortamered
with.
Guidelinesforservicingelectricalequipment
Observetheseguidelineswhenyouserviceelectricalequiment.
•Checktheareaforelectricalhazardssuchasmoistfloors,nongroundedowerextensioncords,and
missingsafetygrounds.
•Useonlyarovedtoolsandtestequiment.Somehandtoolshavehandlesthatarecoveredwithasoft
materialthatdoesnotrovideinsulationfromliveelectricalcurrent.
•Regularlyinsectandmaintainyourelectricalhandtoolsforsafeoerationalcondition.Donotuse
wornorbrokentoolsortesters.
•Donottouchthereflectivesurfaceofadentalmirrortoaliveelectricalcircuit.Thesurfaceisconductive
andcancauseersonalinjuryorequimentdamageifittouchesaliveelectricalcircuit.
•Somerubberfloormatscontainsmallconductivefiberstodecreaseelectrostaticdischarge.Donotuse
thistyeofmattorotectyourselffromelectricalshock.
•Donotworkaloneunderhazardousconditionsornearequimentthathashazardousvoltages.
•Locatetheemergencyower-off(EPO)switch,disconnectingswitch,orelectricaloutletsothatyoucan
turnofftheowerquicklyintheeventofanelectricalaccident.
•Disconnectallowerbeforeyouerformamechanicalinsection,worknearowersulies,orremove
orinstallmainunits.
•Beforeyouworkontheequiment,disconnecttheowercord.Ifyoucannotdisconnecttheower
cord,havethecustomerower-offthewallboxthatsuliesowertotheequimentandlockthe
wallboxintheoffosition.
•Neverassumethatowerhasbeendisconnectedfromacircuit.Checkittomakesurethatithasbeen
disconnected.
•Ifyouhavetoworkonequimentthathasexosedelectricalcircuits,observethefollowingrecautions:
–Makesurethatanotherersonwhoisfamiliarwiththeower-offcontrolsisnearyouandisavailableto
turnofftheowerifnecessary.
–Whenyouworkwithowered-onelectricalequiment,useonlyonehand.Keetheotherhandinyour
ocketorbehindyourbacktoavoidcreatingacomletecircuitthatcouldcauseanelectricalshock.
–Whenyouuseatester,setthecontrolscorrectlyandusethearovedrobeleadsandaccessories

–Standonasuitablerubbermattoinsulateyoufromgroundssuchasmetalfloorstrisandequiment

•Useextremecarewhenyoumeasurehighvoltages.
