Before you start using the phone, please read this!
Pleasechecktoseewhetheranyproblemsyouencounteredwithyour
phonearedescribedinthissectionbeforetakingthephoneinforserviceor
callingaservicerepresentative.
1. Phone memory
Whenthereislessthan10%ofspaceavailableinyourphonememory,
yourphonecannotreceivenewmessages.Youneedtocheckyourphone
memoryanddeletesomedata,suchasapplicationsormessages,tomake
morememoryavailable.
To uninstall applications:
1.OntheHomescreen,touch >Appstab>Settings >Apps
(DEVICEcategory).
2.Onceallapplicationsappear,scrolltoandselecttheapplicationyouwant
touninstall.
3.TouchUninstall>OKtoconrm.
2. Optimizing battery life
Extendyourbattery'slifebetweenchargesbyturningofffeaturesthatyou
don'tneedtohavingrunningconstantlyinthebackground.Youcanmonitor
howapplicationsandsystemresourcesconsumebatterypower.
Extending your phone's battery life:
• Turnoffradiocommunicationsyouarenotusing.IfyouarenotusingWi-
Fi,BluetoothorGPS,turnthemoff.
• Reducescreenbrightnessandsetashorterscreentimeout.
• TurnoffautomaticsyncingforGmail™,Calendar,Contactsandother
applications.
• Someapplicationsyouhavedownloadedmayreducebatterypower.

To check the battery power level:
• OntheHomescreen,touch >Appstab>Settings > About
phone(SYSTEMcategory)>Battery.
Thebatterystatus(chargingornotcharging)andlevel(percentagecharged)
isdisplayedatthetopofthescreen.
To monitor and control how battery power is being used:
• OntheHomescreen,touch >Appstab >Settings > Power
saver(DEVICEcategory)>Battery use(BATTERYINFORMATION
category).
Batteryusagetimeisdisplayedatthetopofthescreen.Ittellsyouhow
longithasbeensinceyoulastconnectedyourphonetoapowersource
or,ifcurrentlyconnected,howlongthephonewaslastrunningonbattery
power.Thescreenshowstheapplicationsorservicesusingbatterypower,
listedinorderfromthegreatesttosmallestamountused.
3. Using folders
You cancombineseveralappiconsinafolder.Droponeappiconover
anotheronaHomescreenpanelortheApplicationsscreenandthetwo
iconswillbecombined.
NOTE You cancustomizecontentsandpropertiesofeachfolder.Tochangethefoldername
andcolor,touchthefolder,thentouch.Toaddmoreappstothefolder,simplydrag
anddroptheiconsintothedesiredfolder.
4. Before installing an open source application and operating
system (OS)
Installinganopensourceoperatingsystemonyourphoneandnotusing
theoperatingsystemprovidedbythemanufacturercancauseyourphone
tomalfunction.
WARNING
•Ifyouinstallanduseanoperatingsystemotherthantheoneprovidedbythemanufacturer,
yourphoneisnolongercoveredbythewarranty.
•Toprotectyourphoneandpersonaldata,downloadapplicationsonlyfromtrustedsources,

suchasPlayStore.Ifsomeapplicationsarenotproperlyinstalledonyourphone,your
phonemaynotworkproperly-orseriouserrorsmayoccur.Yo u willneedtouninstallthose
applicationsandallofitsdataandsettingsfromthephone.
5. Using the hard reset (Factory reset)
Ifyourphoneneedstoberestoredtoitsoriginalcondition,performahard
resettorebootyourphone.
1.Turnthepoweroff
2.AtthesametimepressandholdVolume Down Key + Power/
Lock Key .
3.ReleasethekeyswhentheFACTORYHARDRESETscreenappears.
4.ReadthewarningandpressthePower/ Lock Keytoconrm.
Pressanyotherkeytocancel.
5.PressthePower/Lock Keytoconrmoncemoreorpressany
otherkeytocancel.
6.Yourdevicewillperformahardreset.
7.Leaveyourphoneforatleastaminutewhilethehardresetis
carriedout.Yourphonewillrebootautomatically.
CAUTION
Ifyouperformahardreset,alluserapplicationsanduserdatawillbedeleted.This
cannotbereversed.Remembertobackupanyimportantdatabeforeperforminga
hardreset.
6. Opening and switching applications
MultitaskingiseasywithAndroidbecauseyoucankeepmorethanone
applicationrunningatthesametime.There'snoneedtoquitanapplication
beforeopeninganother.Useandswitchbetweenseveralopenapplications.
Androidmanageseachapplication,stoppingandstartingthemasneeded
toensurethatidleapplicationsdon'tconsumeresourcesunnecessarily.
To view a list of recently used applications:
SimplytouchandholdtheHome Key .

To stop applications:
1.OntheHomescreen,touch >Appstab>Settings >Apps
(DEVICEcategory)>Runningtab.
2.ScrollandtouchthedesiredapplicationandtouchStoptostopit.
7. Hold your phone upright
Holdyourmobilephonevertically,asyouwouldaregularphone.TheLG
US780hasaninternalantenna.Becarefulnottoscratchordamagethe
backofthephone,asthismayaffectperformance.
Whilemaking/receivingcallsorsending/receivingdata,avoidholdingthe
lowerpartofthephonewheretheantennaislocated.Doingsomayaffect
callquality.
8. When the screen freezes
If the screen freezes or the phone does not respond when you try to
operate it:
Removethebattery,reinsertit,thenturnthephoneon.
OR
PressandholdthePower/LockKeyfor10secondstoturnitoff.
Ifitstilldoesnotwork,pleasecontacttheservicecenter.

NOTE Proximity sensor
Whenreceivingandmakingcalls,theproximitysensorautomaticallyturnsthebacklight
offandlocksthetouchscreenbysensingwhenthephoneisnearyourear.Thisextends
batterylifeandpreventsyoufromunintentionallyactivatingthetouchscreenduringcalls.
WARNING
PlacingaheavyobjectonthephoneorsittingonitcandamagetheLCDandtouch
screenfunctions.DonotcovertheLCDproximitysensorwithprotectivelm.Thiscould
causethesensortomalfunction.

Installing the SIM card and battery
Beforeyoucanstartexploringyournewphone,you'llneedtosetitup.To
inserttheSIMcardandbattery:
1.Toremovethebackcover,holdthephonermlyinonehand.Withyour
otherhand,liftoffthebackcoverwithyourthumbnailasshowningure
onthenextpage.
NOTE PutyourthumbnailintotheCharger/USBPortholeandliftoffthebackcover.
2.SlidetheSIMcardintotheSIMcardslot.Makesurethegoldcontact
areaonthecardisfacingdownwards.
NOTE PleaseinsertthenotchedsideoftheSIMcardrst.Refertotheimageinscribedabove
theSIMcardslot.

3.Insertthebatteryintoplacebyaligningthegoldcontactsonthebattery
andthephoneandpressingitdownuntilitclicksintoplace .
4.Alignthebackcoveroverthebatterycompartmentandpressitdown
untilitclicksintoplace.

TheCharger/USBPortisatthebottomofthephone.Insertthechargerand
plugitintoanelectricaloutlet.
NOTE Thebatterymustbefullychargedinitiallytoimprovebatterylifetime.
NOTE Donotopenthebackcoverduringthechargingyourphone.

Using the memory card
To insert a memory card:
Insertthememorycardintotheslot.Makesurethegoldcontactareais
facingdownwards.
NOTE TheLGUS780supportsmemorycardsuptoSDHC32GB.
WARNING
Donotinsertorremovethememorycardwhenthephoneison.Doingsomaydamage
thememorycardaswellasyourphone,andthedatastoredonthememorycardmay
getcorrupted.
To remove the memory card safely:
OntheHomescreen,touch >Appstab >Settings >Storage
(DEVICEcategory)>Unmount SD card>OK.
To format the memory card:
Yourmemorycardmayalreadybeformatted.Ifitisn't,youmustformatit
beforeyoucanuseit.
NOTE Alllesonyourmemorycardaredeletedwhenitisformatted.

2.TouchUnmount SD cardandtouchOKtoconrmit.

everything.
NOTE Ifthereiscontentonyourmemorycard,thefolderstructuremaybedifferentafter
formattingasalltheleswillbedeleted.
Locking and unlocking the screen
Ifyoudonotusethephoneforawhile,thescreenisturnedoffandlocked
automatically.Thishelpstopreventaccidentaltouchesandsavesbattery
power.
WhenyouarenotusingtheLGUS780,pressthePower/Lock Keyto
lockyourphone.
Ifthereareanyprogramsrunningwhenyousetlockscreen,theymaybe
stillrunninginLockmode.Itisrecommendedthatyouexitallprograms
beforeenteringLockmodetoavoidunnecessarycharges(e.g.phonecalls,
webaccessanddatacommunications).
Towakeupyourphone,pressthePower/Lock Key.Thelockscreen
willappear.Touchandslidethelockscreeninanydirectiontounlockyour
Homescreen.Thelastscreenyouviewedwillopen.
Secure your lock screen
You canlockyourscreensothatonlyyoucanunlockittoaccessyour
phone.
To set Swipe, Face Unlock, Pattern, PIN or Password for the first
time:
• OntheHomescreen,touch >Appstab>Settings > Lock screen
>Select screen lock >Swipe, Face Unlock,Pattern,PIN or Password.
NOTE Precautions to take when using pattern lock.
Itisveryimportanttoremembertheunlockpatternyouset.You willnotbeableto
accessyourphoneifyouuseanincorrectpattern5times.Youhave5opportunitiesto
enteryourunlockpattern,PINorpassword.Ifyouhaveusedall5opportunities,youcan
tryagainafter30seconds.
NOTE TheFace UnlockoptionisonlyavailableaftersettingupyourGoogleaccount.

When you cannot recall your unlock pattern:
IfyouloggedintoyourGoogleaccountonthephonebutfailedtoenterthe
correctpattern5times,touchForgot pattern?.You arethenrequiredto
loginwithyourGoogleaccounttounlockyourphoneorenteryourBackup
PIN.
IfyouhavenotcreatedaGoogleaccountonthephoneoryouforgotit,you
havetoperformahardreset.

page12.
To adjust the volume
OntheHomescreen,touchtheMenu Key >System settings >
Sound>Sound profile and Volumes.
You canadjustPhone ringtone,Notification sound,Touch feedback &
system,Music,video,games and other media and Alarmsvolume.
JustscrolleachvolumebuttontotherightorlefttoadjustthentouchOK.

screen.Quickkeysprovideeasy,one-touchaccesstothefunctionsyouuse
themost.
TouchthePhoneicontobringupthetouchscreendialpadtomakea
call.
TouchtheContactsicontoopenyourcontacts.
TouchtheMessagingicontoaccessthemessagingmenu,whereyou
cancreateanewmessage.
TouchtheAppsicontoviewallyourinstalledapplications.Toopenany
application,simplytouchtheiconintheapplicationslist.

To add items on your Home screen:
1.GototheHomescreencanvaswhereyouwanttoaddtheitem.Then
touchandholdtheemptypartoftheHomescreenortouch .
NOTE IfspaceisnotavailableonaparticularHomescreencanvas,youmustdeleteorremove
anitembeforeyoucanaddanotheritem.OrswitchtoanotherHomescreencanvas.
2.Touchthedesiredtabatthebottomofthescreenandselecttheitem
youwanttoadd.YouwillthenseeaddeditemsontheHomescreen.
3.Dragittothelocationyouwantandliftyournger.
Slidethescreenrightorlefttoviewdifferent
screen.
Touchandholdtheiconanddragatthescreen
youwanttoput.
You canaddorremovetheappsandaccessthe
downloads.Youcanalsoaddorremovewidgets
andchangethewallpapers.
To remove an item from the Home screen:
• OntheHomescreen,touchandholdtheiconyouwanttoremove,then
dragitto
