Congratulations on your purchase of the Lionel Aluminum Passenger Cars! Each car features a highly detailed, lighted interior with passenger figures.
Lionel Aluminum Passenger Cars require a minimum curve diameter of 31”. Do not
attempt to operate these cars through O-27 switches or curves.

Coach, Full Vista Dome, and Observation cars
As illustrated in Figure 2, the light switch is located inside the vestibule. On the coach and
observation cars, the switch is located directly above the door. On the full vista dome car, the
switch is to the side of the door.

Switch locations
Switching the interior lights on and off
Each Passenger Car is equipped with a switch that turns the lights on and off. The location of the switch is different depending on the type of car.
Baggage and Combination cars
The light switch is located inside one of the sliding baggage doors, mounted to the circuit
board on the ceiling. Refer to Figure 1 for the location and position of the switch.

1. Loosen the two front vestibule screws from the
bottom of the frame, then pull the end cap off the
car body. Refer to Figure 6 on page 5 for the
locations of the screws and the vestibule.
2. Reach into the car and unplug the wire connector.
As illustrated in Figure 3, be sure to pull on the
white connector housing, not the wires.
3. Carefully slide the light panel out of the car enough
to expose the expired lamp.
4. Gently pull the expired lamp straight out of the
socket, then replace it with Lionel part
no. 630-9134-300. Make sure that the replacement
lamp is positioned flat against the light panel. Refer
to Figure 4.
5. Reassemble the car by following these steps in
reverse order.
On the baggage and combination cars, be
sure that the brass eyelets beneath the screw
heads are in place below the metal frame as
illustrated in Figure 5.
Replacing the lamps
During the course of normal operation, it may become necessary to replace the lamps that illuminate the interiors of your passenger cars. Follow these steps to gain access to the
light panels.
You may wish to seek non-warranty service at an authorized Lionel Service Center if
you are not comfortable with disassembling the car.

Coach cars
1. Loosen the two front vestibule screws from the bottom of the frame, then pull the end cap
and bulkhead off the car body. Refer to Figure 7 on page 7 for the locations of the screws,
vestibule and bulkhead.
2. Reach into the car and unplug the wire connector. As illustrated in Figure 3 on page 4, be
sure to pull on the white connector housing, not the wires.
3. Carefully slide the light panel out of the car enough to expose the expired lamp.
4. Gently pull the expired lamp straight out of the socket, then replace it with Lionel part
no. 630-9134-300. Make sure that the replacement lamp is positioned flat against the light
panel. Refer to Figure 4 on page 4.
5. Reassemble the car by following these steps in reverse order.

Observation car
1. Loosen the two front vestibule screws from the bottom of the frame, then pull the end cap
and bulkhead off the car body. Refer to Figure 8 on page 9 for the locations of the screws
and the vestibule and bulkhead.
2. Unplug the wire connector mounted to the light panel. Be sure to pull on the white
connector housing, not the wires.
3. Slide the light panel out of the car to expose the expired lamp. Refer to Figure 8 on
page 9.
4. Gently pull the expired lamp straight out of the socket, then replace it with Lionel part no.
630-9134-300. Make sure that the replacement lamp is positioned flat against the light
panel. Refer to Figure 4 on page 4.
5. Reassemble the car by following these steps in reverse order.
Observation car drumhead
The drumhead at the rear of the Observation Car is illuminated by one lamp, Lionel part no. 630-9140-300. As illustrated in Figure 8 on page 9, remove the nut from the bottom of
the rounded car end and pull away the rear door. Use a pair of tweezers or a small pair of
pliers to pull the lamp straight up and out of the socket. If you need more room, remove the
three floor screws from the bottom of the car and lift away the truck and metal frame. Replace
the lamp, then reassemble the car.

Full Vista Dome car
There is no illumination on the top floor.
1. Loosen the four vestibule screws and pull the vestibules and bulkhead away from the car
body. Refer to Figure 9 on page 11 for the locations of these parts.
2. Remove the four floor screws that run along the center of the frame near each truck. These
screws are also illustrated in Figure 9 on page 11.
3. Lift the trucks and metal frame from the body. Take care not to pull on the wires that are
attached to the frame.
4. Pull the wire connector away from the opening under the stairs (between the metal frame
and plastic floor), then unplug the connector. As illustrated in Figure 3 on page 4, be sure
to pull on the white connector housing, not the wires.
5. Slide the lower floor out of the car to expose the light panel.
6. Gently pull the expired lamp straight out of the socket, then replace it with Lionel part
no. 630-9134-300. Make sure that the replacement lamp is positioned flat against the light
panel. Refer to Figure 4 on page 4.
7. Reassemble the car by following these steps in reverse order.
When you slide the lower interior back into the car, be sure that the seats face in the
same direction as before.
