Einleitung
Das Sulfat Minikit dient zur Bestimmug von Sulfat im Bereich von 20 - 200 mg/l Na2SO4
und basiert auf dem Tablettenzählverfahren.

A: Bestimmung der Wasserhärte
1. Man füllt den Probenbehälter bis zur 50 ml Marke mit der Wasserprobe.
2. Man gibt eine Sulphate No.2 Tablette hinzu und schüttelt, bis sich die Tablette aufgelöst
hat. Danach gibt man in gleicher Weise nacheinander weitere Sulphate No.2 Tabletten
zu, bis die Färbung der Wasserprobe von VIOLETT nach GRÜN umschlägt. Man
notiert die Anzahl der verbrauchten Tabletten bis zum Eintritt des Farbumschlages.
3. Multipliziert man diese Zahl mit 14, erhält man die Gesamthärte des Wassers, berechnet
als CaCO3. Liegt die Wasserhöhe über 70 mg/l CaCO3(d.h. Verbrauch von mehr als
5 Tabletten) ist das vorliegende Bestimmungsverfahren nicht mehr empfohlen.

B: Bestimmung des Sulfatgehaltes
1. Man füllt den gereinigten Probenbehälter erneut bis zur 50 ml Marke mit der
Wasserprobe.
2. Man gibt eine Sulphate No.1 Tablette hinzu und schüttelt, bis sich die Tablette
vollständig aufgelöst hat.
3. Den Behälter 15 Minuten stehen lassen.
4. Anschließend gibt man die gleiche Anzahl Sulphate No.2 Tabletten zu, die man
bei der Bestimmung der Härtekompensation ermittelt hat und schüttelt, bis sich
die Tabletten aufgelöst haben.
5. Danach gibt man eine weitere Sulphate No.2 Tablette hinzu und schüttelt.
Diese wird als Erste gezählt.
6. Nun gibt man in gleicher Weise nacheinander weitere Sulphate No.2 Tabletten
zu, bis die Färbung der Wasserprobe von VIOLETT nach GRÜN umschlägt.
Man notiert die Anzahl (N) der Sulphate No.2 Tabletten, die bis zum
Farbumschlag verbraucht wurden.
7. Der Sulfatgehalt wird wie folgt berechnet:
Sulfat (als mg/l Na2SO4) = (14 - N) x 20

Reinigung
Nach jeder Bestimmung sind die Probenbehälter gründlich zu reinigen.
Beispiel
Verbrauchte Tabletten bei der Härtekompensation = 3
3 x 14 = 42 mg/l CaCO3
Insgesamt verbrauchte Tabletten No. 2 bei der Sulfatgehaltbestimmung,
abzüglich der drei
Tabletten (s.o.): 7 - 3 = 4
Sulfat (als mg/l Na2SO4) = (14 - 4) x 20 = 200
Sulfat (mg/l SO4) = 0,67 x 200 = 134
Anmerkung
Nach jeder Bestimmung ist der Probenbehälter gründlich zu reinigen.
Umrechnung
Sulfat (mg/l SO4) = Faktor 0,67 x Sulfat (als mg/l Na2SO4)

Introduction
This Sulphate Low Range Minikit uses a modied form of the tablet count method.
The test range is 20 - 200 mg/l as Na2SO4.

Range 20 - 200 mg/l Na2SO4 Sample Size 50 ml
A: Determining of the hardness of the water
1. Take a sample of water in the sample container, lling to the 50 ml mark.
2. Add one Sulphate No.2 tablet and shake the container until the tablet
disintegrates. Continue adding Sulphate No.2 tablets in this manner one at a time until the
colour changes from PLUM RED to GREEN. Count the number of tablets required.
3. Multiply this gure by 14 to nd out the hardness of the water (as mg/l CaCO3). This
test method is not suitable for waters of hardness greater than 70 mg/l (i.e. if more
than 5 tablets are required).

B: Determining the Sulphate Content
1. Rinse the sample container and rell to the 50 ml mark.
2. Add one Sulphate No. 1 tablet. Shake the container to disintegrate the tablet
completely.
3. Leave it for 15 minutes.
4. Next add the same number of Sulphate No.2 tablets as were required in the above
hardness test and shake the container until the tablets are completely disintegrated.
5. Then add a further Sulphate No.2 tablet, shake as before and at this stage start
counting, calling this tablet the rst.
6. Continue adding Sulphate No.2 tablets in this manner one at time until the colour
changes from PLUM RED to GREEN. Note this number of Sulphate No.2 tablets
required from the start of counting. Call this N.
7. Calculation:
Sulphate (as mg/l Na2SO4) = (14 - N) x 20

Cleaning
Thoroughly rinse out the sample container after each use.
Example
Number of tablets required in the Hardness test = 3
3 x 14 = 42 mg/l CaCO3
Number of tablets required from the start of counting = 4
Sulphate (as mg/l Na2SO4) = (14 - 4) x 20 = 200
Sulphate (mg/l SO4) = 0,67 x 200 = 134
Important
Thoroughly rinse out the sample container after each use.
