This manual provides information on the Enhanced
Eclipse®Model 70 transmitter with FOUNDATION field-
bus™ Output and should be used in conjunction with
Eclipse I&O manual 7-600. It is important that all
instructions are read and followed carefully.
Safety Messages
The E lipse system is designed for use in Category II,
Pollution Degree 2 installations. Follow all standard
industry pro edures for servi ing ele tri al and omputer
equipment when working with or around high voltage.
Always shut off the power supply before tou hing any
omponents. Although high voltage is not present in this
system, it may be present in other systems.
Ele tri al omponents are sensitive to ele trostati dis-
harge. To prevent equipment damage, observe safety
pro edures when working with ele trostati sensitive
omponents.

1.0 FOUNDATION fieldbus™Overview
1.1 Description
FOUNDATION fieldbus™is a digital ommuni ations system
that serially inter onne ts devi es in the field. A Fieldbus
system is similar to a Distributed Control System (DCS)
with two ex eptions:
• Although a FOUNDATION fieldbus™system an use the same
physi al wiring as an existing 4–20 mA devi e, Fieldbus
devi es are not onne ted point to point, but rather are
multidropped and wired in parallel on a single pair of wires
(referred to as a segment).
•F
OUNDATION fieldbus™is a system that allows the user to
distribute ontrol a ross a network. Fieldbus devi es are
smart and a tually maintain ontrol over the system.
Unlike 4–20 mA analog installations in whi h the two wires
arry a single variable (the varying 4–20 mA urrent), a digi-
tal ommuni ations s heme su h as FOUNDATION fieldbus™
onsiders the two wires as a network. The network an arry
many pro ess variables as well as other information. The
Enhan ed E lipse Model 705FF transmitter is a
FOUNDATION fieldbus™registered devi e that ommuni ates
with the H1 FOUNDATION fieldbus™proto ol operating at
31.25 kbits/se . The H1 physi al layer is an approved
IEC 61158 standard.
An IEC61158 shielded twisted pair wire segment an be as
long as 6234 feet (1900 meters) without a repeater. Up to
4 repeaters per segment an be used to extend the distan e.
The maximum number of devi es allowed on a Fieldbus
segment is 32 although this depends on the urrent draw
of the devi es on any given segment.

1.2 Benefits
The benefits of FOUNDATION fieldbus™an be found
throughout all phases of an installation:
1. Design/Installation: Conne ting multiple devi es to a single
pair of wires means less wire and fewer I/O equipment.
Initial Engineering osts are also redu ed be ause the
Fieldbus Foundation requires interoperability, defined as
“the ability to operate multiple devi es in the same system,
regardless of manufa turer, without a loss of fun tionality.”
All FOUNDATION fieldbus™devi es must be tested for
interoperability by the Fieldbus Foundation. MAG-
NETROL Enhan ed Model 705 3X FF devi e registration
information an be found at www.fieldbus.org.
2. Operation: With ontrol now taking pla e within the
devi es in the field, better loop performan e and ontrol are
the result. A FOUNDATION fieldbus™system allows for mul-
tiple variables to be brought ba k from ea h devi e to the
ontrol room for additional trending and reporting.
3. Maintenance: The self-diagnosti s residing in the smart
field devi es minimizes the need to send maintenan e
personnel to the field.
1.3 Device Configuration
The fun tion of a FOUNDATION fieldbus™devi e is deter-
mined by the arrangement of a system of blo ks defined by
the Fieldbus Foundation. The types of blo ks used in a typi-
al User Appli ation are des ribed as follows:
Resource Block des ribes the hara teristi s of the
FOUNDATION fieldbus™devi e su h as the devi e name,
manufa turer, and serial number.
Function Blocks are built into the FOUNDATION fieldbus™
devi es as needed to provide the desired ontrol system
behavior. The input and output parameters of fun tion
blo ks an be linked over the Fieldbus. There an be
numerous fun tion blo ks in a single User Appli ation.
Transducer Blocks ontain information su h as alibration
parameters and sensor type. They are used to onne t the
sensor to the input fun tion blo ks.

Device Descriptions
An important requirement of Fieldbus devi es is the inter-
operability on ept mentioned earlier. Devi e Des ription
(DD) te hnology is used to a hieve this interoperability.
The DD provides extended des riptions for ea h obje t and
provides pertinent information needed by the host system.
DDs are similar to the drivers that your personal omputer
(PC) uses to operate peripheral devi es onne ted to it. Any
Fieldbus host system an operate with a devi e if it has the
proper DD and Common File Format (CFF) for that devi e.
The most re ent DD and CFF files an be found on the
FOUNDATION fieldbus™web site at www.fieldbus.org.
NOT : Please consult your host system vendor for any host-specific
files that may be needed.

1.4 Intrinsic Safety
The H1 physi al layer supports Intrinsi Safety (IS) appli a-
tions with bus-powered devi es. To a omplish this, an IS
barrier or galvani isolator is pla ed between the power
supply in the safe area and the devi e in the hazardous area.
H1 also supports the Fieldbus Intrinsi ally Safe Con ept
(FISCO) model whi h allows more field devi es in a
network. The FISCO model onsiders the apa itan e and
indu tan e of the wiring to be distributed along its entire
length. Therefore, the stored energy during a fault will be
less and more devi es are permitted on a pair of wires.
Instead of the onservative entity model, whi h only allows
about 90 mA of urrent, the FISCO model allows a maxi-
mum of 110 mA for Class II C installations and 240 mA
for Class II B installations.
FISCO ertifying agen ies have limited the maximum
segment length to 1000 meters be ause the FISCO model
does not rely on standardized ignition urves.
The Enhan ed E lipse Model 705 is available with entity IS,
FISCO IS, FNICO non-in endive, or explosion proof approvals.

1.5 Link Active Scheduler (LAS)
The default operating lass of the Enhan ed E lipse Model 705
with FOUNDATION fieldbus™is a basi devi e. However, it is
apable of being a Link A tive S heduler (LAS). The LAS
ontrols all ommuni ation on a FOUNDATION fieldbus™
segment. It maintains the “Live List” of all devi es on a
segment, oordinates both the y li and a y li timing and,
at any given time, ontrols whi h devi e publishes data via
Compel data (CD) and Pass Token (PT).
The primary LAS is usually maintained in the host system,
but in the event of a failure, all asso iated ontrol an be
transferred to a ba kup LAS in a field devi e su h as the
Enhan ed E lipse Model 705. The operating lass an be
hanged from basi to LAS using a FOUNDATION fieldbus™
onfiguration tool.
NOT : The nhanced clipse Model 705 is shipped from the factory
with Device Class set to Basic.
2.0 QuickStart Installation
The Qui kStart Installation pro edures provide the key
steps for mounting, wiring, and onfiguring the E lipse
level transmitter. These pro edures are intended for experi-
en ed installers of ele troni level measurement instruments.
See Complete Installation, Se tion 3.0, for detailed installa-
tion instru tions.
WARNING: The Model 7xD, 7xR or 7xT overfill probes should be
used for Safety Shutdown/Overfill appli ations. All
other Guided Wave Radar probes should be installed
so the maximum overfill level is a minimum of
6" (150 mm) below the pro ess onne tion. This may
in lude utilizing a nozzle or spool pie e to raise the
probe. Consult fa tory to ensure proper installation.
2.1 Getting Started
Before beginning the Qui kStart Installation pro edures,
have the proper equipment, tools, and information available.
 
• Open-end wren hes or adjustable wren h to fit the pro ess
onne tion size and type. Coaxial probe 11⁄2"
(38 mm), twin rod probe 17⁄8" (47 mm), transmitter
11⁄2" (38 mm). A torque wren h is highly desirable.
• Flat-blade s rewdriver
• Cable utter and 3⁄32" (2.5 mm) hex wren h
(Flexible probes only)
• Fieldbus ompatible power supply with proper termination

2.2 QuickStart Mounting
NOT : Confirm the configuration style and process connection
size/type of the clipse transmitter. nsure it matches the
requirements of the installation before continuing with the
QuickStart installation.
①Confirm the model and serial numbers on the nameplates
of the E lipse probe and transmitter are identi al.



 
②Carefully pla e the probe into the vessel. Align the probe
pro ess onne tion with the threaded or flanged mounting
on the vessel.
 
③Tighten the hex nut of the probe pro ess onne tion or
flange bolts.
NOT : Leave the plastic protective cap in place until ready to
install the transmitter. Do not use sealing compound or TF
tape on probe connection to transmitter as this connection is
sealed by a Viton®O-ring.
④Remove the prote tive plasti ap from the top of the probe
and store for future use. Make sure the top probe onne tor
(female so ket) is lean and dry. Clean with isopropyl
al ohol and otton swabs if ne essary.
⑤Pla e the transmitter on the probe. Align the universal
onne tion at the base of the transmitter housing with the
top of the probe. Hand tighten the onne tion.
⑥Rotate the transmitter so that it is in the most onvenient
position for wiring, onfiguring, and viewing.
⑦Using a 11⁄2" (38 mm) wren h, tighten the universal
onne tion on the transmitter 1⁄4to 1⁄2turn beyond hand
tight. A torque wren h is highly re ommended to obtain
15 ft-lbs. This is a riti al onne tion. DO NOT LEAVE
HAND TIGHT.

2.3 QuickStart Wiring
WARNING! xplosion hazard. Do not connect or disconnect equip-
ment unless power has been switched off or the area is
known to be non-hazardous.
NOT : nsure that the electrical wiring to the clipse transmitter is
complete and in compliance with all regulations and codes.
1. Remove the over of the upper wiring ompartment of the
transmitter.
2. Atta h a onduit fitting and mount the onduit plug in the
spare opening. Pull the power supply wire through the on-
duit fitting.
3. Conne t shield to an earth ground at power supply.
4. Conne t the positive supply wire to the (+) terminal and the
negative supply wire to the (-) terminal. For Explosion
Proof Installations, see Wiring, Se tion 2.5.3 of I/O manual
57-600.
5. Repla e the over and tighten.

2.4 QuickStart Configuration
The E lipse transmitter omes partially onfigured from
the fa tory but an be re onfigured in the shop (disregard
fault message due to unatta hed probe). The minimum
onfiguration instru tions required in the field follow.
1. Power up the transmitter.
The display hanges every 5 se onds alternating between
showing the Status, Level and Analog Input Blo k values.
2. Remove the over of the lower ele troni ompartment.
3. Use the Up or Down Arrow ( ) keys to move from one
step of the onfiguration program to the next step.
4. Press the Enter Arrow ( ) key. The last
hara ter in the first line of the display
hanges to an ex lamation point (!).
5. Use the Up or Down Arrow ( ) keys to in rease or
de rease the value in the display or to s roll through the
hoi es.
6. Press the Enter Arrow ( ) key to a ept a value and move
to the next step of the onfiguration program (the default
password is 1).
7. After entering the last value, allow 10 se onds before
removing power from the transmitter.
The following onfiguration entries are the minimum required for
onfiguration (the default password is 1 from the LCD/keypad).

3.0 Complete Installation
This se tion provides detailed pro edures for properly
installing and onfiguring the E lipse Guided Wave Radar
Level Transmitter.
3.1 Unpacking
Unpa k the instrument arefully. Make sure all omponents
have been removed from the pa king material. Che k all the
ontents against the pa king slip and report any dis repan-
ies to the fa tory.
Before pro eeding with the installation, do the following:
• Inspe t all omponents for damage. Report any damage to
the arrier within 24 hours.
• Make sure the nameplate model number on the probe and
transmitter agree with the pa king slip and pur hase order.
• Re ord the model and serial numbers for future referen e
when ordering parts.

3.2 Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
Handling Procedure
MAGNETROL ele troni instruments are manufa tured to
the highest quality standards. These instruments use ele -
troni omponents that may be damaged by stati ele tri ity
present in most work environments.
The following steps are re ommended to redu e the risk of
omponent failure due to ele trostati dis harge.
• Ship and store ir uit boards in anti-stati bags. If an anti-
stati bag is not available, wrap the board in aluminum foil.
Do not pla e boards on foam pa king materials.
• Use a grounding wrist strap when installing and removing
ir uit boards. A grounded workstation is re ommended.
• Handle ir uit boards only by the edges. Do not tou h
omponents or onne tor pins.
• Make sure that all ele tri al onne tions are ompletely
made and none are partial or floating. Ground all equip-
ment to a good, earth ground.

3.3 Before You Begin
 
Ea h E lipse transmitter is built to mat h the spe ifi physi-
al spe ifi ations of the required installation. Make sure the
probe onne tion is orre t for the threaded or flanged
mounting on the vessel or tank where the transmitter will
be pla ed. See Mounting, Se tion 3.4.
Make sure that the wiring between the power supply and
E lipse transmitter are omplete and orre t for the type of
installation.
When installing the E lipse transmitter in a general purpose
or hazardous area, all lo al, state, and federal regulations and
guidelines must be observed. See E lipse Installation &
Operating Manual 57-600, Wiring, Se tion 2.5.
 
No spe ial equipment or tools are required to install the
E lipse transmitter. The following items are re ommended:
• Open-end wren hes or adjustable wren h to fit the pro ess
onne tion size and type. Coaxial probe 11⁄2" (38 mm), twin
rod probe 17⁄8" (47 mm), transmitter 11⁄2" (38 mm). A torque
wren h is highly desirable.
• Flat-blade s rewdriver
• Fieldbus ompatible power supply with proper termination
 
Operating spe ifi ations vary based on Probe model
number.
3.4 Mounting
The E lipse transmitter an be mounted to a tank using a
variety of pro ess onne tions. Generally, either a threaded
or flanged onne tion is used. For information about the
sizes and types of onne tions available, see Probe Model
Numbers, Se tion 7.5.2.
NOT : Do not place insulating material around any part of the clipse
transmitter including the probe flange as this may cause exces-
sive heat buildup.
Make sure all mounting onne tions are properly in pla e
on the tank before installing the probe. Compare the name-
plate on the probe and transmitter with the produ t infor-
mation; make sure the E lipse probe is orre t for the
intended installation.

WARNING! The Model 7xD, 7xR or 7xT overfill probes should be

WARNING! 

Before installing, make sure the:
• Model and serial numbers on the nameplates of the E lipse
probe and transmitter are identi al.
• Probe has adequate room for installation and has unob-
stru ted entry to the bottom of the vessel. The Model 7xD
(High Temp./High Pressure) probe, Model 7xP (High
Pressure) probe, Model 7xR (Overfill) probe, Model 7xS
(Steam) probe and Model 7xT (Interfa e) probe require
added learan e.
• Pro ess temperature, pressure, diele tri , and vis osity are
within the probe spe ifi ations for the installation.
• Model 7xD (High Temp./High Pressure) probes should be
handled with extra are due to the erami spa ers used
throughout their length.
3.4.1.1 To install a coaxial probe:
①Make sure the pro ess onne tion is at least 3⁄4" NPT or a
flanged mounting.
②Carefully pla e the probe into the vessel. Align the gasket
on flanged installations.
③Align the probe pro ess onne tion with the threaded or
flanged mounting on the vessel.
④For threaded onne tions, tighten the hex nut of the probe
pro ess onne tion. For flanged onne tions, tighten flange
bolts.
NOT : If the transmitter is to be installed at a later time, do not remove
the protective cap from the probe. Do not use sealing com-
pound or TF tape on probe connection to transmitter as this
connection is sealed by a Viton®O-ring.

Before installing, make sure the:
• Model and serial numbers on the nameplates of the E lipse
probe and transmitter are identi al.
• Probe has adequate headroom for installation and has unob-
stru ted entry to the bottom of the vessel.
• Pro ess temperature, pressure, diele tri , vis osity, and
media buildup are within the probe spe ifi ations for the
installation.
Nozzles:
The 7xB/7x5/7x7 Twin Rod probes may be sus eptible to
obje ts that are in lose proximity. The following rules
should be followed for proper appli ation:
1. Nozzles should be 3" (80 mm) diameter or larger.
2. 7xB/7x5/7x7 Twin Rod probes should be installed su h that
the a tive rod is >1" (25 mm) from metalli obje ts su h as
pipes, ladders, et ., (a bare tank wall parallel to the probe is
a eptable).
3.4.2.1 To install a rigid twin rod probe:
①Make sure the pro ess onne tion is at least 2" NPT or a
flanged mounting.
②Make sure that there is at least 1" (25 mm) spa ing between
the a tive probe rod and any part of the tank (walls, stillwell,
pipes, support beams, mixer blades, et .). Minimum still-
well diameter for Twin Rod probe is 3".
③Carefully pla e the probe into the vessel. Align the gasket
on flanged installations.
④Align the probe pro ess onne tion with the threaded or
flanged mounting on the vessel.
⑤For threaded onne tions, tighten the hex nut of the probe
pro ess onne tion. For flanged onne tions, tighten flange
bolts.
⑥Probe an be stabilized by atta hing the ina tive probe rod
to vessel.
NOT : If the transmitter is to be installed at a later time, do not remove
the protective cap from the probe. Do not use sealing com-
pound or TF tape on probe connection to transmitter as this
connection is sealed by a Viton®O-ring.

3.4.2.2 To install a Model 7x7 standard flexible twin rod probe:

b. Loosen the two #10-32 set s rews (3) on both se uring
devi es using a 3⁄32" (2.5 mm) hex wren h and slide the
se uring devi es off of the probe.
. Slide the TFE weight off of the probe.
d. Cut and remove the required able (4) length.
e. Remove 31⁄2" of the rib between the two ables.
f. Strip 5⁄8" (16 mm) of oating from the two ables.
g. Slide the TFE weight ba k on to the probe.
h. Reatta h se uring devi e and tighten s rews.
i. Enter new probe length (in hes or m) in software.
 


ratio <1:1 (e.g., a 2"× 6" nozzle = 1:3) may require a
Blo king Distan e and/or DIELECTRIC adjustment
(see E lipse Installation & Operating Manual 57-600,
Se tion 2.6.5.2, Measurement Type: Level and Volume).
3. No pipe redu ers (restri tions) are used.
• Probe is kept away from ondu tive obje ts to ensure proper
performan e. See Probe Clearan e Table below. A lower gain
(in rease in DIELECTRIC setting) may be ne essary to
ignore ertain obje ts.
3.4.3.1 To install a Model 7xF rigid single rod probe:
①Make sure the pro ess onne tion is at least 2" NPT or a
flanged mounting.
②Carefully pla e the probe into the vessel. Align the gasket
on flanged installations.
③Align the probe pro ess onne tion with the threaded or
flanged mounting on the vessel.
④For threaded onne tions, tighten the hex nut of the probe
pro ess onne tion. For flanged onne tions, tighten flange
bolts.
⑤Probe an be stabilized by pla ing into a non-metalli up
or bra ket at the bottom of the probe. A TFE bottom
spa er (P/N 89-9114-001) is optional for mounting into
a metalli up or bra ket.
NOT : If the transmitter is to be installed at a later time, do not remove
the protective cap from the probe. Do not use sealing com-
pound or TF tape on probe connection to transmitter as this
connection is sealed by a Viton®O-ring.
3.4.3.2 To install a Model 7x1 flexible single rod probe:
①Make sure the pro ess onne tion is at least 2" NPT or a
flanged mounting.
②Carefully pla e the probe into the vessel. Align the gasket
on flanged installations.


The Model 7x2 and 7x5 Bulk Solids probes are designed for
a 3000 lb. (1360 kg) pull-down for e for use in appli ations
su h as sand, plasti pellets and grains. It is offered with a
maximum 75-foot (22 meter) probe length.
Model 7x2 Single Rod — diele tri ≥4
Model 7x5 Twin Rod — diele tri ≥1.9

3.4.4.1 Applications

3.4.4.2 Mounting recommendations
1. Use a weight instead of se uring the probe to the vessel.
2. Mount probe at least 12 in hes from the wall. Ideal
lo ation is 1⁄4to 1⁄6the diameter to average the angle
of repose.
3. A metal flange must be used when mounting on plasti
vessels.
3.4.4.3 To install a Model 7x5 bulk solids flexible twin rod
probe:

probe:

flanged mounting.
②Carefully pla e the probe into the vessel. Align the gasket
on flanged installations.
③Align the probe pro ess onne tion with the threaded or
flanged mounting on the vessel.
④For threaded onne tions, tighten the hex nut of the probe
pro ess onne tion. For flanged onne tions, tighten flange
bolts.
⑤Probe an be shortened in field:
⑥a. Loosen and remove the two able lamps.
b. Slide the weight off of the probe.
. Cut the able to the required length plus 6.38".
d. Slide the weight ba k on to the probe.
e. Reinstall the two able lamps and tighten.
f. Enter the new probe length (in hes or m) in software.

3.4.5.1 Integral Mount
①Remove the prote tive plasti ap from the top of the
probe. Put the ap in a safe pla e in ase the transmitter has
to be removed later.
②Pla e the transmitter on the probe. Be areful not to bend
or dirty the gold, high frequen y (male) onne tor.
③Align the universal onne tion at the base of the transmitter
housing with the top of the probe. Hand tighten the
onne tion.
④Rotate the transmitter to fa e the most onvenient dire tion
for wiring, onfiguration, and viewing.
⑤When the transmitter is fa ing the desired dire tion, use a
11⁄2" (38 mm) wren h to tighten the universal onne tion on
the transmitter to 15 ft-lbs. A torque wren h is highly re -
ommended. This is a riti al onne tion. DO NOT LEAVE
HAND TIGHT.
3.4.5.2 Remote Mount
①Mount the transmitter/remote bra ket as an assembly
within 33" (84 m) of the probe. DO NOT REMOVE
TRANSMITTER FROM BRACKET.
②Remove the prote tive plasti ap from the top of the probe.
Put the ap in a safe pla e in ase the transmitter has to be
removed later.
③Align the universal onne tion at the end of the remote
assembly with the top of the probe. Using a 11⁄2" (38 mm)
wren h, tighten the universal onne tion on the transmitter
to 15 ft-lbs. A torque wren h is highly re ommended. This is
a riti al onne tion. DO NOT LEAVE HAND TIGHT.

4.0 Function Blocks
4.1 Overview
The Enhan ed E lipse Model 705 Guided Wave Radar
Level Transmitter operates on the prin iple of Time Domain
Refle tometry (TDR). Refer to Bulletins 57-101 and 57-600
for more detailed information on the E lipse produ t family.
The Enhan ed E lipse Model 705FF is a Guided Wave Radar
(GWR) level transmitter with seven FOUNDATION fieldbus™
Fun tion Blo ks (one Resour e Blo k, one Transdu er
Blo k, four Analog Input Blo ks, and one PID Blo k). The
idea of Fun tion Blo ks, whi h a user an ustomize for a
parti ular appli ation, is a key on ept of Fieldbus topology.
Fun tion Blo ks onsist of an algorithm, inputs and out-
puts, and a user-defined name.
The TRANSDUCER blo k output is available to the net-
work through the ANALOG INPUT blo ks.
• The ANALOG INPUT blo ks (AI) take the TRANSDUCER
blo k level or volume values and makes them available as an
analog value to other fun tion blo ks. The AI blo ks have
s aling onversion, filtering, and alarm fun tions.
 
The following are general des riptions of the parameters
ommon to all blo ks. Additional information for a given
parameter is des ribed later in that spe ifi blo k se tion.
ST_REV (static data revision): a read only parameter that
gives the revision level of the stati data asso iated with the
blo k. This parameter will be in remented ea h time a stati
parameter attribute value is written and is a vehi le for
tra king hanges in stati parameter attributes.
TAG_DESC (tag descriptor): a user assigned parameter
that des ribes the intended appli ation of any given blo k.
STRATEGY: a user assigned parameter that identifies
groupings of blo ks asso iated with a given network onne -
tion or ontrol s heme.
ALERT_KEY: a user assigned parameter whi h may be used
in sorting alarms or events generated by a blo k.
MODE_BLK: a stru tured parameter omposed of the
a tual mode, the target mode, the permitted mode(s), and
the normal mode of operation of a blo k.
• The a tual mode is set by the blo k during its exe ution to
refle t the mode used during exe ution.
• The target mode may be set and monitored through the
mode parameter.
