1 . Smoke alarms must be installed in accordance with local and national regulations.
Please check your state re department requirements prior to installation.
2. As a minimum, smoke alarms should be located between sleeping areas and potential sources
of re such as a kitchen, heater or basement. In single story homes with one sleeping area, an
alarm should be installed in the hallway outside the room. In single story homes with two or more
sleeping areas, a minimum one alarm for each area is required. In multilevel dwellings, an alarm
should be installed outside and inside each sleeping area, in the basement, and on every level of
the home.
3. Smoke alarms are best installed as close to the centre of the ceiling as possible.
As a minimum, the alarms should be located at least 30cm from walls. If wall mounted, it should
be at least 30cm from the ceiling. (Diagram 1.)
4. Larger rooms, in excess of 10m in length, should have multiple alarms installed.
5. For buildings with a peaked, or cathedral type ceiling, the alarm musty be installed at least 50cm
from the apex. (Diagram 2.)
6. Do not mount the alarm on an external wall of a mobile home, as they may be subjected to
excessive heat.
SUGGESTED SMOKE ALARM LOCATIONS

As part of your plan, all family members should know and/or practice:
1. The two quickest ways out of each room
2. How to exit from upstairs, for homes with a second story. A rope or chain may be required.
3. An agreed upon meeting place outside, such as the letterbox
4. The sound of the smoke alarm and practice leaving your home when they hear it.
5. A re drill at least every six months including drills at nights. Practice allows you to test your plan
before an emergency.You may not be able to reach your children.
It is important that they know what to do!
DEVELOP AN ESCAPE PLAN
1. Alert any small children and elderly persons
2. Leave immediately by your plan of escape. Every second counts, so don’t waste time getting
dressed or picking up valuables.
3. In leaving, don’t open any inside door without rst feeling its surface. If hot, or if you see smoke
seeping through cracks, don’t open that door! Instead, use your alternate exit. If inside door is cool,
place your shoulder against it, open it slightly and be ready to slam it shut if heat and
smoke rush in.
4. Stay close to the oor if air is smoky. Breathe shallowly through a wet cloth if possible.
5. Once outside, go to your selected meeting place and make sure everyone is there.
6. Call the Fire Brigade on 000.
7. Don’t return to your home until ofcials say that it is safe to do so. For further information on re
safety contact your local Fire Brigade.
WHAT TO DO IF THE ALARM SOUNDS
1. Refer to the location recommendations listed earlier
2. The unit comes with a drilling template for installation. Use this to mark the installation holes of the
bracket.
3. Drill 5mm holes, and insert the two supplied plastic wall plugs
4. Attach the bracket to the wall plugs, using the supplied screws.
5. Carefully align the alarm with the bracket (see Diagram 3), and turn the alarm body clockwise.
The unit will ‘click’ into the fully closed position.

6. The unit is now fully operational. Press the button for 2 seconds to test.The alarm will sound 3 short
beeps, then a 1.5 second pause, then repeat, until the button is released.
1. Under normal operation, the red LED will ash once every 40 seconds.This is a very faint ash, and
only visible through the vents on the side of the alarm.
2. If low battery, or battery failure has been detected, the alarm will ‘chirp’ once every 40 seconds,
with the red LED also ashing once every 40 seconds.
3. If the unit is running in ‘silence’ mode (see next section,) the red LED will ash once every
8 seconds.
4 . Note: If the unit is chirping once every 40 seconds (low battery,) pressing the test button will pause
the warning tone for 10 hours.The unit will operate normally, and alarm if smoke is detected.
This gives time to source a new alarm, as the battery cannot be replaced.
LED INDICATOR
1. If the alarm sounds, rst ensure there is NO DANGER. Do not assume it is a false alarm.
Carefully check all surrounds for the presence of smoke.
2. Once it has been determined there is no danger, press the button for 2 seconds.The alarm
will enter ‘silence’ mode for approx. 10 minutes.The red LED will ash once every 8 seconds during
this time.
3. After 10 minutes the alarm will resume normal operation. If the source of the nuisance alarm is still
present (eg insects, burnt toast, etc) the alarm will sound again.
4. The ‘silence’ mode feature can be repeated as many times as necessary.
USING THE SILENCE FEATURE

1. Ensure all units are active and operational.To ensure alarm is active, press the button for
2 seconds and ensure the alarm sounds.
2. To activate the wireless interconnect mode, press the button 3 times within 2 seconds.
An internal LED will emit blue light through the casing vents.
3. This Blue light conrms the detector has entered the ‘Send Wireless Code’ mode.This mode will
remain active for 30 seconds.
4. While in this mode, interconnection with a second unit can be set up, by pressing the button on
the second unit 3 times within 2 seconds.A Green LED (again viewable through the casing vents)
on this second unit, will light up for 3 seconds to indicate successful pairing.
5. The ‘Send Wireless Mode’ reactivates for another 30 seconds, and the process can be repeated for
all remaining units to be interconnected.
6. If ‘Send wireless code mode’ has timed out (Blue light is no longer shining), the mode can be
reactivated by going through the set up steps indicated in point 2 above.
ACTIVATING WIRELESS INTERCONNECT
1. Once setup, all units MUST be tested for successful interconnect function to ensure they are
successfully paired. Select any one unit and press the button for 2 seconds.The alarm will sound
on that unit.
2. After a few seconds, all other interconnected alarms will enter the ‘interconnect test’ mode, upon
which the interconnected units will sound for 10 seconds, followed by a ashing RED LED, visible
through the front face of the unit. Flashing frequency will be twice per second, (with audible signal
every second for only 10 seconds.) This will continue for 5 minutes after which all units will resume
normal operation.
3. All alarms should be tested weekly to ensure correct operation.
TESTING WIRELESS INTERCONNECT
1. This needs to be performed for each unit being disconnected from the paired network.
2. Remove the alarm from the bracket by twisting anti-clockwise.
3. Press and HOLD the button without releasing and ……….
4. While pressing the button, reattach the alarm to the bracket. Continue pressing the button until
the RED LED will lights up for 3 seconds and ……..
5. ONLY AFTER the RED LED has turned off, release the button.
6. The RED LED will light up again for 3 seconds. DURING this time press the button once, and the RED
LED will ash a few times, and then turn off.
7. The interconnect code is now cleared.
8. If for any reason the unit does respond as indicated, restart the process from point 1.
CLEARING THE INTERCONNECT CODE
• The FSA-30000 smoke alarm is warranted for a period of 5 years, to be free of defects in materials
or workmanship, under normal use. In the event of a warranty issue, please contact
