Preparation
Avoid placing the unit in areas that
are subject to excessive humidity or
heat.
Avoid exposing to excessive dust or
moisture.
Do not place any heavy objects on the
unit and to suffer from strong physical
shock.
Never use chemicals such as benzine
or thinner to clean the unit .
Take Care of Your Unit
Power Supply
Using Batteries
6 pieces of C size (SUM-2 or R-14) or
equivalent alkaline batteries must first be
installed into the battery compartment.
Caution:
Do not mix old and new batteries.
Always use same types of batteries.
Always remove the batteries from the
unit when it is not being used for an
extended period of time.
Using Power Adapter
An AC adaptor is required when using
household current. The adaptor shall be
9V DC output, center positive type.
Be sure to turn off the unit before conn-
ecting the adaptor into AC outlet and the
cord into the unit.

You can power the unit either by batte-
ries or by power adaptor (both are not

Open the battery compartment cover
located on the bottom cabinet of the
unit.
Insert the batteries, carefully follow
the polarity markings on the cabinet.
Replace the compartment cover,
making sure that it locks firmly in place.

indicating any problem.

A pair of headphone can be plugged into
the HEADPHONE jack located on the
rear of the unit.
The internal speaker will automatically
shut off when headphone is plugged into
the jack.

Playing the Keyboard
1. To turn on the keyboard, set [power]
to ON. The display lights.
Note:
For reminding you in power saving, the
keyboard automatically sounds a voice
"Ding Dong" about every 2 minutes to
alert you to switch off the unit when
not in use.
Adjust the volume to your desired
level. Repeatedly press [master
volume] up or [master volume]
down to increase or decrease the
volume. The keyboard's volume
ranges from 0 (no sound) to 9
(Maximum) and the current volume
level appears on the display.

You can listen to any of the 100 songs
listed at the right panel. Each song plays
the preset tone of the melody.

Press [song]. The display indicates
"SONG" and the code of the current
song.
Choose a song from the SONGS list
and enter its two-digit number on the
keypad.
You can press [-] or [+] to move up or
down to the next song.

To change the tempo, repeatedly press
TEMPO UP or TEMPO D OWN u ntil the
desired tempo appears.
To select a different song, repeat step
2. To stop, press [start/stop].
Three Modes of SONG LESSON
Your keyboard's learning function
allows beginners to learn and play one
of the pre-recorded songs easily.
A "keyboard" shows you the fingering
of the notes of the song which is
playing.
The black dots besides the song
code will count the beats in the
measure.
Press [song], then repeatedly press
[lesson] until the arrow points to
lesson 1 , lesson 2 or lesson 3
on the left of the display.
Select a song from the SONGS list
and enter its two-digit number on the
keypad. You can also press [+] or [-]
to move up or down to the next
song.
If you want to play the song with acc-
ompaniment in the learning mode,
repeatedly press [lesson] until the
arrow appears next to lesson 3 .

You can change the song by repeating
step 2 even while a song is playing; the
new song immediately begins to play.
The song you have chosen will play con-
tinuously until you stop it. As a song
plays, the display indicates:

Lesson 3 (melody off)：
In this mode, follow the current note
and tempo to play with the demo
song. The keyboard performs
accompaniment and displays the
staff and notes of the melody for you
to follow. The accompaniment keeps
on playing. If you catch both the
right note and the right tempo, the
entire score will be added; otherwise,
the score will be deducted.
Grade：
lesson 2 lesson 3 have the
grading function. There are four
levels. After the lesson, the program
will tell you the level you get.

After grading, the song will be
playing again, retaining the Lesson.

Playing the DEMO

Lesson 1 (one key)：
Press [start/stop]. The first note of
the song you selected will appear on
the display.
Press any key on the keyboard at
the correct time for learning the
tempo of the selected song. You will
see the next note displays for you to
learn and press; otherwise it will
proceed to a waiting status.
To stop learning, press [start/stop]
again. If you press [lesson], the flag
will appear next to LESSON 2 and a
note will appear.
Lesson 2 (waiting)：
In this mode, you can learn the tones
of a demo song. The song continues
to play only if you have pressed the
correct keys according to the
keyboard displays. Waiting status
happens if a wrong key is pressed.
You can listen to any of the 100 demos.
Each song plays the preset tone of the
melody.

The display indicates "de" and the
code of the current demo.
Choose a song from the DEMOS list
and enter its two-digit number on the
keypad.
You can press [-] or [+] to move up or
down to the next demo.
Press [start/stop] or [demo] to stop
playing the song.

Your keyboard can perform sounds of
100 different musical instruments. The
name and two-digit number for each pre-
set voice is listed on VOICES list on the
keyboard's top panel .
Press [function], and the LCD will
display 'TPS 0'; use [+] or [-] to shift
the pitch in a range of 6 semi-tone .
The keyboard automatically selects
the key of middle C each time you
turn it on. For added flexibility, press
[function] until 'TPS 0' displays. The
number displayed after 'TPS 0' is the
current transpose value. If there is no
symbol on its left, the value is
positive. If there is a '-' on its left, the
value is negative. Press [+]、[-] to
adjust the keyboard holistic pitch
within +6 semi-tones. Press [+] and
[-] at the same time to return the
transpose to 0. The new transpose
value is available imm-ediately after
set up.

Press [voice], VOICE and the current
voice 's code appears.
To change the voice, choose a preset
voice from the VOICES list and enter
its two-digit number on the keypad.
Precede a single-digit number with a
'0 '. For example, to select Clavi (08),
press '0 ' and '8 '. As you press the
keys, the selected digits appear.
You can use [+] or [-] to move up or
down to the next tone.
You may now start playing the key-
board.

Selecting an Auto-Style
To sustain the notes you are playing,
press [sustain]. 'SUSTAIN' appears
and the keyboard sustains the played
notes until you release [sustain].
Press [sustain] again to turn it off .
Press [piano] to enter the piano
mode. PIANO displays.
To exit the piano mode, press
[voice], [song], [style], [demo], any
of the five Memory buttons in
memory status , or [piano] again.

For added flexibility and control when
you make music, you can set the key-
board with a sustaining sound.
The Piano mode plays the piano voice,
and stops any other voices and styles in
the performance mode.
Your keyboard has 100 preset Auto-Sty-
les providing a steady beat for your
music. Each time you turn on the key-
board, it automatically selects the 8
BEAT 1 .

Style
Press [style]. "STYLE" and the curr-
ent style's code appears.
To select a different style, choose an
Auto-Style from the STYLES list and
enter its two-digit number on the key-
pad. For example, press 04 to select
8 Beat 4, press "0" and "4" , the style
"04" appears.
Repeatedly press [+] or [-] to move
up or down to the next style.

Press [start/stop] to start the sele-
cted Auto-Style.
Press [acc.vol] to adjust the accom-
paniment volume to the desired level.
To change the tempo, repeatedly
press [tempo +] or [tempo -]. The
current tempo setting appears.
Play the keyboard along with the
Auto-Style.
To stop the Auto-Style, press [start
/stop] again.

Using SYNC
This feature allows you to synchronize
the introduction of an Auto-Style with the
introduction of your music.
After selecting an Auto-Style, press
[sync/fill]. The black dots below the
tempo and the metronome flash, indicat-
ing the standby mode of the keyboard.
You may start playing the keyboard. The
keyboard automatically begins to play the
style for any key you pressed.
Simply press [sync/fill] while the Auto-
Style is playing. The keyboard inserts a
variation, then the original style automa-
tically resumes at the end of the current
measure.
For inserting a longer variation, hold
down [sync/fill]; the keyboard plays the
variation until you release [sync/fill].

You can adjust the tempo for an
Auto-Style from 40 to 240 beats
per minute.
To reset the tempo to its default
(original) speed, press [tempo +]
and [tempo -] at the same time.

Using the Auto Bass Chord
The 19 keys on the left of the keyboard with note labels above them are called
accompaniment keys.The accompaniment keys you pressed determine the type of
chords that you played. You can set the keyboard to play with or without
accompaniment.

There are 2 ways to detect the chord: Single Finger detect and Standard Fingering
detect. If the chord playing accord with Standard Fingering detect, it is recognized
as the Standard Fingering chord. If not, Single Finger chord will be recognized.
(see the "Appendix 6 Chord Charts")
Chords will also be produced , if just 2 keys are pressed, but the chord dictionary
will not give accurate results.

All keys past the 19 key (F#) are ignored when in Auto Bass Chord mode, so any
three finger chords using these play as two finger.
Note:
Follow these steps to activate A.B.C .
Press [A.B.C.], " A.B.C." appears on
the left side of the display.
Press [style] and enter a two-digit
Auto-Style number.
To start the Auto-Style before the
auto accompaniment, press [start/stop] .
To synchronize the start of the selected
Auto-rhythm with your accompaniment,
press [sync/fill].
To start the accompaniment at the
desired interval, press the desired
accompaniment key(s).
Adjust tempo and accompaniment
volume to the desired level.
To stop auto accompaniment rather
than the Auto-Style, press [A.B.C.]
again until "A.B.C. " disappears on
the display.
To stop auto accompaniment and
the Auto-Style, press [start/stop].

Using One-Touch Setting
Your keyboard's One-Touch Setting fea-
ture allows you to automatically play a
preset voice to match a selected Auto-
Style you have changed.
Follow these steps to activate One-Touch
Setting.
Press [style].

Enter a two-digit Auto-Style number.
Press [O.T.S]., 'O.T.S.' appears.
Press [voice]. The preset voice that
matches the selected Auto-Style
appears.

Using the Metronome
Choose a beat (according to Function) ,
and then press [metro] to play the beat
at the current tempo.
To change the tempo, repeatedly press
[tempo+] or [tempo-] .
Press the [metro] again to close the me-
tronome .
Note：
During recording, you can turn the metr-
onome on but it will not be recorded.

The Standard Fingering method uses
standard formations of three or more
notes; it allows experienced musicians
to play a wider variety of accompani-
ment chords. And follow the same as
step1 to step7 to start standard
fingering auto accompaniment.

Chord Dictionary
Memory/Percussion
Memory
Chord direct is an inner-setup chord pro-
cedure which you can find the chord co-
mposition. This function lets you know
the chord names and to learn the chords
quickly.
In style stop status, press [chord
direct] with C dict and chord
direct on the display to enter the
chord direction mode.
Play the corresponding keys on the
keyboard according to the root note
of a chord, LCD chord area displays
the root note that is pressed, as well
as the chord name and its notes with
melody keyboard and staff indicator.
Play the chords on the keyboard in
auto accompaniment field, according
to the chord direct on the LCD,
applause will appear from the
speaker if the correct notes have
been pressed.

Press to shift the
function. The default value is memory
when power is turned on .
Press and hold down [write] , and press
[M1/pad1] (or [M2/pad2] -- [M5/pad5])
at the same time to store the current
tone, style, tempo, accompaniment
volume, beat value, sustain on/off,
transpose value or midi channel value.
The memory location ([M1/pad1]--
[M5/pad5]) plays the stored mode
during performance.
Memory will be returned to the default
setting after you turned off the power.

Your keyboard's Percussion pads per-
form sounds of bass drum, snare drum,
hi-hat open, high tom-tom, and hi-hat
close.
Simply press [memory/percussion].
"PER" displays. The keyboard plays the
selected percussion sound each time
you press the pad.
You can record any of the available per-
cussion sounds of the Percussion pads.
This lets you quickly select and play a
percussion sound produced by the key-
board.
Note:
The keyboard will clear any assigned
sound each time you turn it off.

Press [voice], then enter "00" on the
keypad.
Select drum sounds by pressing any
of the 49 keys until you hear your
desired sound.
Hold down the Percussion pads you
want to assign the sound for and
press the desired key.

Using MIDI
For two MIDI instruments to be comm-
unicated, they must be connected
with MIDI cables. In a basic example,
the MIDI OUT terminals of this key-
board could be connected to the MIDI
OUT terminals of a sequencer, allow-
ing you to record and play back the
performance data from this keyboard.
The keyboard can send out several
types of MIDI messages (such as：
PROGRAM CHANGE and NOTE).
Please refer to the MIDI I
Chart on page 21.
Press [function] until CH displays.
The last two figures are the current
MIDI CH value. Select the channel for
MIDI transmission by pressing [+] or [-
]. The selection range is 01- 16, and
the default value is 01. Once the
connec-tion is made, the keyboard's
MIDI data will be sent automatically as
you play.

out whenever there is a Transpose,

Your PC should be equipped with a
sound card, a pair of speakers and
the MIDI software must be installed.
No information of Auto-Style, Pre-re-
corded songs, Sustain and Transpose
could be sent as MIDI data.

Your keyboard includes the MIDI fea-
ture. (Musical Instrument Digital Inter-
face) MIDI is the universal standard for
sending and receiving performance
data between electronic musical instru-
ments.
Using MIDI, you can play music on
your keyboard and another instrument
simultaneously while pressing the keys
on only one. Record your music to a
sequencer, acquire a wider selection
of preset tones from a sound module.
Every MIDI equipped instrument has a
MIDI OUT terminal, and some also
have a MIDI IN and a MIDI THRU
terminal. Each of these terminals
serves in different purposes. MIDI
OUT sends MIDI data to ( talks to )
other MIDI instruments.
This keyboard has a MIDI OUT term-
inal. Please refer to the following instr-
uctions.

MIDI adaptor (one end with 5-pin plug
and the other end with 15-pin plug).
Switch on both keyboard and PC
again, make sure the volume is mini-
