The Rotary Iron
A brief introduction
The Ironing Result
The ironing result depends on temperature, roller speed of the iron as well as dampness of laundry.
Temperature
Heat makes the laundry easier to form. The higher the temperature the more permanent the result of
ironing. The temperature selector is used to set the ironing temperature. The individual temperature range
is distinguished by dot symbols. The pilot lamp goes out when the selected temperature is reached.
Dampness of laundry
When ironing an article with a high degree of dampness, a low speed of the iron is recommended.
The article will be dried slowly when passing through the rotary iron. When ironing an article with a
low degree of dampness, a high speed of the iron is adequate to receive a good result. Dampening an
item with a spray mister will increase your result. If a Miele tumble dryer is being used, select the program
marked “Machine iron”. To minimize preparation time and to redampen, use warm water.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the heating-up time for the iron?
3-4 minutes to pre-heat the iron.
How long does it take to iron a sheet?
2-4 minutes.
How long does it take to iron a shirt?
3-4 minutes.
How many napkins can I iron per hour?
Approximately 100 napkins.
What are the three settings of the foot pedal?
1) pressed down: ironing and roller moves
2) intermediate position (lift your foot slightly): just pressing, roller does not move
3) off
How safe is the use of the iron?
If during the ironing process you lose power, press the black heater plate release button to remove
the item. A special feature of the rotary iron is the finger guard. If your fingers touch the heater plate,
the roller stops rotating and the heater plate lifts off.
Can I replace the ironing cover?
Yes, ironing covers are available from your nearest Miele Dealer or Miele Service Department.
How much space do I need to store the iron?
When folded away the iron requires a minimum of floor space -
2.4 square feet. The four rollers allow the iron to be easily moved.

Roller speed
The roller speed can be adjusted by the roller
speed selector. A lower roller speed makes
it much easier when ironing complicated articles
such as shirts or articles that are to be ironed
folded. Thinner single articles, such as tea
towels can be ironed at a higher roller speed.

Tablecloths
Iron the middle first to avoid creases.
• Lay the tablecloth crossways so that the
ends hang over to the right and left.
• Then fold along the width.
• Iron the un-ironed section on both sides
using the left-hand side of the roller.
• Let the ironed middle section hang over the left
end of the roller so that no crease is produced.
• After folding, iron again if necessary.
Sheets and bedspreads
Sheets may be ironed like tablecloths, or if a
lengthwise fold is acceptable, fold the sheet
together lengthwise and iron it on both sides.
Duvet covers
• Button the duvet cover. Start the first run by
carefully feeding in the closed button strip on
the left side of the roller.
To iron without a fold:
• Iron one side of the duvet cover, flip over, and
iron on the other side.
If folds are acceptable:
• Fold the duvet cover lengthwise and iron from
left and right.
Pillow cases
• First iron the fastened button strip
(as with duvet covers)
• Then iron the whole pillow case on both sides
Trousers
• Crease the trousers and lay on the roller. The
area from the waistband to the crotch
should hang down over the left-hand edge
of the roller.
• Cover the crease with a damp cloth then turn
the roller by hand until the part of the trousers
to be ironed is covered by the heater plate, and iron.
• Iron each crease from both sides in this manner.
Shirts
Remove feed board before ironing shirts!
1. Sleeves and cuffs
• Smooth out the sleeve and lay it on the roller.
Leave the cuff for the moment.
• Iron the arm from the edge of the cuff to
the armhole.
• Iron both sides of the cuffs on the edge of
the roller.
2. Shoulder yoke/back
Shirts with a shoulder yoke:
• Fold the back along the yoke seam.
• Lay the yoke as shown in the illustration,
diagonally on the roller and then iron from
the shoulder to the collar.
• Remove shirt, rearrange and repeat on the
other side.
3. Back
The back is ironed in two movements, from the
middle back to the side seams.
• Pull the shirt right side up on to the roller up
to the yoke seam (or the collar seam where
there is no yoke). Smooth it out. Iron
from the middle of the back to the armhole.
The last bit under the arm is ironed with the
front.
• Iron the other half of the shirt as the first
half but inside out.
4. Front sides
• Lay the front on to the left-hand end of the
roller, iron from the bottom hem up to the
armhole so that the unironed part of the
back can be ironed.
• Start with the left side.
• Now move the shirt out and iron past the
armhole to the collar.
• Iron the right hand side, but inside out.
5. Collar
• The Collar is ironed on both sides using the
left-hand end of the roller. Then turn down
the collar and press lightly, holding taut.
