1) GENERAL VISION
The earth meter MTR-1522 is a macromachined device
with high precision and reliability. Able to measure the earth
resistence of eletric cables, eletric instalations and lightning
rod equipaments. Beyond that, is able to measure the earth
voltage.
Obs: this device should not be use in outdoor environment
that possess risks, like rain, lightning incidences, etc.

not operate correctly.

B. Probes Conection
Make sure that all the probes are tightly conected to the
device input terminals. A loose conection can result incorrect
measurements.

8
8) OPERATION
Warning
When the device is developing ground resistance tests,
the highest voltage between E and C must be 50V AC.
Do not touch the external part of the probes or the au-
xiliary stakes, to avoid eletric shock danger.
A. Precision Measure
Place both stakes in the ground. The smallest distance
between the electrode (E), the catheter (P) and the auxiliar
stake(C)mustbebetween5~10meters,likegure2.

B. Earth Voltage Measure
WARNING
The earth voltage test only works in V and E. The C and P
cables must be separated, otherwise, the device is in risk
of being damaged and the user suffer injuries.
SelectthefunctionEARTHVOLTAGEforvoltageexhibition
on the display. Conect tghe probes in V and E then conect
to the test point. The earth voltage value will be exhibited on
the display. In this case of measure, the button TEST do not
need to be pressed.
If the measure value is bigger than 10V, turn off all the volt-
age related equipaments then wait until the display reads
zero, otherwise, the residual voltage will affect the earth
resistance precision.

10
C.Earth Resistance Measure
SelectthefunctionEARTHRESISTANCE4000Ω(maximum
range), press the button TEST then the display will show the
earth resistance value. If the value of the resistence is lower
than400Ω,selectthefunction400Ωthenthedisplaywillshow
the earth resistance value. If the value of the resistence is
lowerthan40Ω,selectthefunction40Ωthenthedisplaywill
show the earth resistance value. Summarizing: select your
measurement closest range to obtain the best precision.
Press the button TEST and the button will light up, it means
that the device is performing the measure.

D. Simple Measure
Danger
To avoy eletrical shock risks, be careful when using a
grounding point of commercial electric power systems
as a point of reference test.
This method can be used when there is not possible to use
the auxiliary stakes. The two wire test method (using the
terminals E and P/C) can be applied in grounding of build-
ings, grounding wire, showers, etc., using the grounding of
the object to be measured, as Figure 3:
Figura 3
When using this method, P and C must be conected at the
same time.

E. Special Functions
●Auto Shutdown
The device will turns on when the buton is pressed and some
function is selected. The auto shutdown happens after 10
minutes to save battery (except when the device is realizing
ground resistance tests).
●Backlight
When performing the tests in poorly lit areas, you can use
the backlight of the display.
Pressingthebutton“LIGHT/LOAD”,thedisplaybacklightwill
light up and the corresponding icon will appear.
Press“LIGHT/LOAD”againtoturnoffthebacklight.
●Hold

10) MAINTENANCE
A. Battery Replacement
When the low battery indication appear on the display, per-
form the replacement immediately as described bellow:
1. Turn Off the device and remove the probes.
